text: By distributing the computational load over the nodes of a Wireless Acoustic
Sensor Network (WASN), the real-time capability of the TRINICON (TRIple-N-Independent
component analysis for CONvolutive mixtures) framework for Blind Source Separation
(BSS) can be ensured, even if the individual network nodes are not powerful enough
to run TRINICON in real-time by themselves. To optimally utilize the limited computing
power and data rate in WASNs, the MARVELO (Multicast-Aware Routing for Virtual
network Embedding with Loops in Overlays) framework is expanded for use with TRINICON,
while a feature-based selection scheme is proposed to exploit the most beneficial
parts of the input signal for adapting the demixing system. The simulation results
of realistic scenarios show only a minor degradation of the separation performance
    even in heavily resource-limited situations.

text: "We present a technique for rendering highly complex 3D scenes in real-time
by\r\ngenerating uniformly distributed points on the scene's visible surfaces.
The\r\ntechnique is applicable to a wide range of scene types, like scenes directly\r\nbased
on complex and detailed CAD data consisting of billions of polygons (in\r\ncontrast
to scenes handcrafted solely for visualization). This allows to\r\nvisualize such
scenes smoothly even in VR on a HMD with good image quality,\r\nwhile maintaining
the necessary frame-rates. In contrast to other point based\r\nrendering methods,
we place points in an approximated blue noise distribution\r\nonly on visible
surfaces and store them in a highly GPU efficient data\r\nstructure, allowing
to progressively refine the number of rendered points to\r\nmaximize the image
quality for a given target frame rate. Our evaluation shows\r\nthat scenes consisting
of a high amount of polygons can be rendered with\r\ninteractive frame rates with
good visual quality on standard hardware."

text: Automatic meeting analysis comprises the tasks of speaker counting, speaker
diarization, and the separation of overlapped speech, followed by automatic speech
recognition. This all has to be carried out on arbitrarily long sessions and,
ideally, in an online or block-online manner. While significant progress has been
made on individual tasks, this paper presents for the first time an all-neural
approach to simultaneous speaker counting, diarization and source separation.
The NN-based estimator operates in a block-online fashion and tracks speakers
even if they remain silent for a number of time blocks, thus learning a stable
output order for the separated sources. The neural network is recurrent over time
as well as over the number of sources. The simulation experiments show that state
of the art separation performance is achieved, while at the same time delivering
good diarization and source counting results. It even generalizes well to an unseen
    large number of blocks.

text: Plastic freeforming (PF) is an additive-manufacturing process for producing
three-dimensional plastic parts based on 3D CAD data by applying plastic droplets
in layers. This process is used to produce customer-specific and complex geometries
(prototypes and small series) on organic sheets. A comparable serial process is
the injection of a second component onto organic sheets by injection molding.
A sufficient bond between the PF structure and the organic sheets is of particular
importance for each application. If this is not guaranteed, the composite system
cannot withstand the mechanical load and fails. The force exerted on the system
can no longer be transmitted between the PF structure and the organic sheet. The
organic sheet is made of glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP). The connection
between the organic sheet and the PF structure is achieved by welding the molten
polymer droplets and the surface of the organic sheet. The PF structures are made
of PP to ensure sufficient compatibility with regard to the weldability of the
components. The processing of PP in the PF process is a challenge because PP is
a semicrystalline material. The shrinkage of semi-crystalline materials is significantly
higher compared to amorphous materials. Due to the layered structure of the components,
the shrinkage of the individual layers results in undesired warpage. The adhesive
strength between the organic sheet and the PF structure is investigated by determining
the bending strength in the 3-point bending test. The investigations include an
optimization of the process parameters to maximize the adhesive strength. The
experimental investigations show that an increase of the nozzle and build chamber
temperature leads to a higher adhesive strength. In further investigations, the
temperature of the nozzle shows no significant influence on the surface temperature
despite the expected heat radiation. The surface temperature is almost only dependent
on the temperature of the build chamber.

text: Adaptive kinetic Monte Carlo simulation (aKMC) is employed to study the dynamics
and the diffusion of point defects in the CuInSe2 lattice. The aKMC results show
that lighter alkali atoms can diffuse into the CuInSe2 grains, whereas the diffusion
of heavier alkali atoms is limited to the Cu-poor region of the absorber. The
key difference between the diffusion of lighter and heavier alkali elements is
the energy barrier of the ion exchange between alkali interstitial atoms and Cu.
For lighter alkali atoms like Na, the interstitial diffusion and the ion-exchange
mechanism have comparable energy barriers. Therefore, Na interstitial atoms can
diffuse into the grains and replace Cu atoms in the CuInSe2 lattice. In contrast
to Na, the ion-exchange mechanism occurs spontaneously for heavier alkali atoms
like Rb and the further diffusion of these atoms depends on the availability of
Cu vacancies. The outdiffusion of alkali substitutional atoms from the grains
results in the formation of Cu vacancies which in turn increases the hole concentration
in the absorber. In this respect, Na is more efficient than Rb due to the higher
concentration of Na substitutional defects in the CuInSe2 grains.

text: "Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential for far-reaching – in our
opinion – irreversible changes.\r\nThey range from effects on the individual and
society to new societal and social issues. The question arises\r\nas to how students
can learn the basic functioning of AI systems, what areas of life and society
are affected\r\nby these and – most important – how their own lives are affected
by these changes. Therefore, we are developing and evaluating school materials
for the German ”Science Year AI”. It can be used for students of all\r\nschool
types from the seventh grade upwards and will be distributed to about 2000 schools
in autumn with\r\nthe support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The material deals with the following aspects\r\nof AI: Discussing everyday experiences
with AI, how does machine learning work, historical development\r\nof AI concepts,
difference between man and machine, future distribution of roles between man and
machine,\r\nin which AI world do we want to live and how much AI would we like
to have in our lives. Through an\r\naccompanying evaluation, high quality of the
technical content and didactic preparation is achieved in order\r\nto guarantee
the long-term applicability in the teaching context in the different age groups
and school types.\r\nIn this paper, we describe the current state of the material
development, the challenges arising, and the results\r\nof tests with different
classes to date. We also present first ideas for evaluating the results."

  text:
In the fight against anthropogenic climate change, the benefit of
the integration of fluctuating renewable energies (wind and photovoltaics) into
the electricity grid is a widely proved concept. At the same time, a fluctuating
and decentralised supply of energy, especially at lower voltage levels, leads
to a local discrepancy in the power balance between generation and consumption.
A possible solution in connection with demand side management is the grid-oriented
flexibilisation of energy demand. The present study shows how the use of an innovative
hybrid-redundant high-temperature heat system (combined heat and power (CHP),
power-to-heat system (PtH), gas boiler) can contribute to a flexibilisation of
the electrical energy demand of plastics processing companies. In this context,
the flexibilisation potential of a company is to be understood as the grid-related
change of the energy supply through a change of the energy sources within the
framework of the process heat supply. For this purpose, an omniscient control
algorithm is developed that specifies the schedule of the individual system components.
A sensitivity analysis is used to test the functionality of the control algorithm.
Determination of the electrical flexibilisation potential is carried out via a
comprehensive simulation study using Monte Carlo methods. For this purpose, the
residual load curves of four characteristic distribution grids with a high share
of renewable energies as well as heat load profiles of injection moulding machines
are taken into consideration. A frequency distribution provides information on
the electrical flexibilisation potential to be expected depending on the various
combinations. The evaluation is carried out using a specially introduced logic,
which identifies grid-relevant changes in the company's power consumption as flexibilisation
potential based on a reference load curve. The results show that a reliable energy
supply for production is possible despite flexibilisation. Depending on the grid
under consideration, there are differences in the exploitation of the potential,
which essentially depends on the installed renewable capacity. Depending on the
scenario under consideration, an average of up to 1486 kWhel can be shifted in
a positive direction and 1199 kWhel in a negative direction.
