  text:
Abstract
The quartz crystal microbalance with
dissipation monitoring (QCM‐D) is routinely used to investigate structured samples.
Here, a simulation technique is described, that predicts the shifts of frequency
and half bandwidth, Δfn and ΔΓn,
of a quartz resonator operating on different overtone orders, n,
induced by structured samples in contact with the resonator surface in liquid.
The technique, abbreviated as FreqD‐LBM, solves the Stokes equation in the frequency
domain. The solution provides the complex amplitude of the area‐averaged tangential
stress at the resonator surface, from which Δfn
and ΔΓn are derived. Because the
dynamical variables are complex amplitudes, the viscosity can be complex, as well.
The technique naturally covers viscoelasticity. Limitations are linked to the
grid resolution and to problems at large viscosity. Validation steps include viscoelastic
films, rough surfaces, an oscillating cylinder in a viscous medium, and a free‐floating
sphere above the resonator. Application examples are soft adsorbed particles,
stiff adsorbed particles, and a large, immobile spherical cap above the resonator,
which allows to study the high‐frequency properties of the material in the gap.
FreqDLBM runs on an office PC and does not require expert knowledge of numerical
techniques. It is accessible to an experimentalist.

text: raditional assessment formats in university-based EFL teacher education programs
usually focus on cognitive dispositions rather than on the actual performance
of pre-service EFL teachers in everyday teaching situations. This assessment gap
is addressed in this thesis by developing and validating a role-play-based simulation
(RobS) designed for the summative assessment of pre-service EFL teachers' feedback
competence on writing. Drawing on theories from multiple disciplines, such as
higher education, medical education, teacher education, educational psychology,
and EFL-specific didactics, the RobS is developed as a performance-oriented assessment
format. In the RobS, pre-service EFL teachers engage in a feedback conversation
with trained actors who portray a standardized learner. Following an argument-based
approach to validation, the extent to which the RobS can be considered valid is
investigated. Data from multiple studies, focusing on aspects such as authenticity,
fairness, reliability, and external validity, are presented. The discussion in
the validity argument indicates that the RobS can elicit and assess the performative
facet of feedback competence on writing with sufficient confidence. This work
contributes a novel, empirically supported assessment framework to teacher education
research. Moreover, it presents an approach to address the assessment gap, enabling
pre-service EFL teachers to show how they provide feedback, rather than just tell
    their lecturers about it.

bessere elektro- magnetische Eigenschaften bietet. Sie wurde bei einer Synchron-Reluktanzmaschine
(SynRM) getestet.

  text:
Boson sampling is a key candidate for demonstrating quantum advantage
and has already yielded significant advances in quantum simulation, machine learning,
and graph theory. In this work, a unification and extension of distinct forms
of boson sampling is developed. The devised protocol merges discrete-variable
scattershot boson sampling with continuous-variable Gaussian boson sampling. Therefore,
it is rendered possible to harness the complexity of more interesting states,
such as squeezed photons, in advanced sampling protocols. A generating function
formalism is developed for the joint description of multiphoton and multimode
light undergoing Gaussian transformations. The resulting analytical tools enable
one to explore interfaces of different photonic quantum-information-processing
platforms. A numerical simulation of unified sampling is carried out, benchmarking
its performance, complexity, and scalability. Entanglement is characterized to
exemplify the generation of quantum correlations from the nonlinear interactions
    of a unified sampler.

text: 'Technical systems are characterized by increasing interdisciplinarity, complexity
and networking. A product and its corresponding production systems require interdisciplinary
multi-objective optimization. Sustainability and recyclability demands increase
said complexity. The efficiency of previously established engineering methods
is reaching its limits, which can only be overcome by systematic integration of
extreme data. The aim of "hybrid decision support" is as follows: Data science

Fractional dissipation is a powerful tool to study nonlocal physical phenomena such as damping models. The design of geometric, in particular, variational integrators for the numerical simulation of such systems relies on a variational formulation of the model. In Jiménez and Ober-Blöbaum (J Nonlinear Sci 31:46, 2021), a new approach is proposed to deal with dissipative systems including fractionally damped systems in a variational way for both, the continuous and discrete setting. It is based on the doubling of variables and their fractional derivatives. The aim of this work is to derive higher-order fractional variational integrators by means of convolution quadrature (CQ) based on backward difference formulas. We then provide numerical methods that are of order 2 improving a previous result in Jiménez and Ober-Blöbaum (J Nonlinear Sci 31:46, 2021). The convergence properties of the fractional variational integrators and saturation effects due to the approximation of the fractional derivatives by CQ are studied numerically.

text: 'To predict and prevent uneven tire wear in addition to a reduction of overall
tire wear, it is essential to estimate not only the total amount of wear but also
how the wear is distributed across the tire width. This requires knowledge of
the frictional power distribution in the tire contact patch, which is the basis
for calculating tire wear using a wear law. Usually, only 3D structural tire models
can generate such distributed contact results. However, they involve high computational
costs and cannot be used for comprehensive optimization of a vehicle’s suspension
system with respect to tire wear characteristics. Hence, this contribution presents
a methodology on how to accelerate the prediction of the frictional power distribution
using two components: The structural tire model is replaced by an empirical tire
model that on its own is not able to generate distributed contact results. Therefore,
an artificial neural network is trained to predict the desired contact results
from the kinematic quantities calculated by the empirical tire model. In the initial
training phase, both components are fitted to data generated by the original complex
tire model. After training, the empirical tire model can replace the structural
tire model in vehicle simulations, resulting in significantly shorter calculation
times. The simulation results are fed into the artificial neural network, which
predicts the frictional power distributions over the tire width with negligible
additional effort. Overall, the methodology reduces calculation time for the prediction
of tire wear based on virtual test drives to approximately 25% of the time needed
    when using structural tire models.'

(PCM) ausgestatteten, energietechnischen Komponenten anhand zweier Fallstudien.

text: This thesis explores the modeling and optimization of energy system components
incorporating phase change materials (PCM) through two different case studies.
PCM are materials whose phase change characteristics during melting and solidification
are utilized for heating and cooling purposes. The theoretical foundations of
heat transfer problems involving phase change, along with the relevant numerical
solution methods, are discussed. A phase change model is presented, which was
validated against analytical solutions and applied in the case studies. For both
case studies, a review of the state of the art is provided, followed by the formulation
of specific research problems. The first case study investigated PCM-enhanced
photovoltaic modules, while the second focused on packed bed latent heat storages
(PBLHS) utilizing non-spherical PCM capsules. Thermal models were developed for
both systems and validated with good accuracy against experimental data. These
models were employed in parameter studies to identify optimized system configurations.
The presented results demonstrate that a PCM heat sink with sufficient thickness
and thermal conductivity can significantly improve the efficiency and lifespan
of photovoltaic modules. Furthermore, PCM capsules with both high packing density
and surface area increase the volume-specific storage capacity and thermal power
    output of PBLHS.

  text:
Modulation conditioned on measurements on entangled photonic quantum
states is a cornerstone technology of optical quantum information processing.
Performing this task with low latency requires combining single-photon-level detectors
with both electronic logic processing and optical modulation in close proximity.
Here, we demonstrate low-latency feedforward using a quasi-photon-number-resolved
measurement on a quantum light source. Specifically, we use a multipixel superconducting
nanowire single-photon detector, amplifier, logic, and an integrated electro-optic
modulator in situ below 4 K. We modulate
the signal mode of a spontaneous parametric down-conversion source, conditional
on a photon-number measurement of the idler mode, with a total latency of (23±3)ns.
Furthermore, we investigate the resulting change in the photon statistics. This
represents an important benchmark for the fastest quantum photonic feedforward
experiments comprising measurement, amplification, logic, and modulation. This
has direct applications in quantum computing, communication, and simulation protocols.

text: Non-rotationally symmetrical joints can have different properties that can
be controlled by the joint orientation. This hypothesis is tested using a Reuleaux
triangle joint geometry. A tool design is carried out, followed by a numerical
sensitivity analysis of the tool geometry. Initial tools were manufactured for
experimental investigations and then adapted based on the findings of the sensitivity
analysis. The joints are characterized by micrographs, 3D scans, shear tensile
tests, head tensile tests and three-point bending tests and compared with a round
geometry. The analysis confirms the hypothesis. Thus, joints with adaptable properties
can be produced with one tool set.

text: Pillow-plate heat exchangers (PPHEs) represent a viable alternative to conventional
shell-and-tube and plate heat exchangers. The waviness of their channels intensifies
fluid mixing in the boundary layers and facilitates heat transfer. Applying secondary
surface structuring can further enhance the overall thermo-hydraulic performance
of PPHEs, thus increasing their competitiveness against conventional heat exchangers.
In this work, streamlined secondary structures applied on the PPHE surface were
studied numerically to explore their potential in enhancing near-wall fluid mixing.
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of single-phase turbulent flow
in the inner PPHE channel were performed and pressure drop, heat transfer coefficients,
and overall thermo-hydraulic efficiency were determined. The simulation results
clearly demonstrate a favourable influence of secondary structuring on the heat
    transfer performance of PPHEs.
