text: We present a complete Visible Light Communication (VLC) system for experimental
Vehicular VLC (V-VLC) research activities. Visible light is becoming an important
technology complementing existing Radio Frequency (RF) technologies such as Cellular
V2X (C-V2X) and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). In this scope, first
works helped introducing new simulation models to explore V-VLC capabilities,
technologies, and algorithms. Yet, experimental prototypes are still in an early
phase. We aim bridging this gap with our system, which integrates a custom-made
driver hardware, commercial vehicle light modules, and an Open Source signal processing
implementation in GNU Radio, which explicitly offers rapid prototyping. Our system
supports OFDM with a variety of Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) and is compliant
to IEEE 802.11; this is in line with the upcoming IEEE 802.11 LC standard as well.
In an extensive series of experiments, we assessed the communication performance
by looking at realistic inter vehicle distances. Our results clearly show that
our system supports even higher order MCS with very low error rates over long
    distances.

text: In oil-lubricated worm gears, all moving components cause power losses during
operation. These losses depend, among other things, on the viscosity of the lubricant
used, which in turn is determined by the temperature present in the gearbox. The
dependency between the temperature and the power dissipation is mutual, and they
influence each other. For the analysis of gearboxes under transient conditions,
the relationship among operating conditions, power dissipation, and temperature
must be considered. In this paper, a method for the analysis of these interrelationships
is presented, which is based on the combination of tribological simulation and
thermal networks. With the developed calculation model, the gearbox efficiency
and the temperature over time can be estimated for arbitrary load cases. The calculation
results are compared with measurements on a real gearbox.

  text:
Modern developments in the automotive sector are motivated by the
objective of lowering the emission of pollutants. In contrast, growing demands
for safety and comfort lead to a potential increase of the weight of vehicles.
Thus, the consequent use of lightweight design is indispensable. This includes
the use of different materials for the construction of car bodies. Because of
various material properties, joining of dissimilar materials is challenging and
requires often the application of non-thermic processes like riveting or clinching.
These processes are limited by the mechanical properties of the joining partners.
Especially the increasing use of ultra-high strength alloys, like the hot stamped
steel 22MnB5, makes the development of new joining technologies necessary. One
of these innovative technologies is shear-clinching. By combining shear-cutting
and clinching in one process, this technology produces durable and tight connections
of dissimilar materials with high differences regarding strength and formability.
In contrast to shear-cutting the die-sided material has no contact with the punch.
Since the process of shear-clinching is a combination of cutting and joining using
the same tool, the tool loads differ from common shear-cutting. Especially cutting
hot stamped steels is a challenge due to their high ultimate strength which leads
to high tool loads. Thus, the analysis of the load condition is essential for
the dimensioning of durable and wear resistant tools. Hence, the scope of this
paper is a numerical investigation of the tool loads during the indirect cutting
process and the subsequent step of joining by forming during shear-clinching.
Since an experimental investigation of the occurring tool loads in the closed
process is not practicable, the finite element method has to be used. Therefore,
a damage-based numerical model is set up to enable the coupled simulation of the
combined cutting and joining process and the resulting tool loads. This allows
the analysis of the loads during the whole process, identifying the influences
    of materials and sheet thicknesses.

text: This paper presents an approach for analog fault effect simulation automation
based on random fault selection with a high fault coverage of the circuit under
test by means of fault injection and simulation based on advanced sampling techniques.
The random fault selection utilizes the likelihood of the fault occurrence of
different electrical components in the circuit with a confidence level. Defect
models of different devices are analyzed for the calculation of the fault probability.
A case study with our implemented tool demonstrates that likelihood calculation
and fault simulation provides means for efficient fault effect simulation automation.

text: Pore-scale filtration simulations require high spatio-temporal resolutions
and significant computational effort, hence, keeping the domain size to a minimum
is desirable. Previous studies have considered domains based on Brinkman length,
or are limited by computing power, and little information is available for conditions
involving high fluid saturation – typical of steady state mist filtration. In
this study, simulations are performed to characterize the effect of domain size
on pressure drop, residual saturation, liquid film thickness and interfacial area
concentration, using virtual nonwoven and foam filters with similar micro-structural
properties. Further, experiments using micro-CT are performed to validate the
present computational simulations. It is found that two phase flow through filters
are more sensitive to local geometric variations or mesh resolution in the porous
media than single phase flow. Statistical uncertainties in the steady state quantities
of less than +-10% can be expected to cope with the increase in computing power
required for practical mesh sizes. A computational domain size of about 50–100xd
(where d is the strut or fibre diameter) was found to be required for CFD for
    the operating conditions considered.

  text: "
As a result of the increasing labor force participation of mothers,
this article questions how twoparent households divide the housework activities
of caring, cooking and cleaning. Therefore three types of couples with different
labor force participations were formed: Dual-earner couples, couples with additional
female income and malebreadwinner couples. The time use for the mentioned activities
was examined with a secondary analysis based on the German representative time
use surveys of 2012/2013 and 2001/2002. The analysis showed that fulltime mothers
spent the lowest amount of time for caring, cooking and cleaning. However, unemployed
mothers spent the most time for these activities. Within a decade – from 2001/2002
to 2012/2013 – all mothers have reduced their time spent on household activities.
Meanwhile, all parents in 2012/2013 take noticeably more time for child care.
Regardless of the mother’s labor force participation, mothers still spent more
time for caring, cooking and cleaning, especially on weekdays. Additionally, the
everyday housework is divided by gender. Only on weekends, couples with employed
mothers shared the care-work almost egalitarian.&#x0D;\r\nZusammenfassung&#x0D;\r\nVor
"

text: 'In scientific computing, unstructured meshes are a crucial foundation for
the simulation of real-world physical phenomena. Compared to regular grids, they
allow resembling the computational domain with a much higher accuracy, which in
turn leads to more efficient computations.<br />There exists a wealth of supporting
libraries and frameworks that aid programmers with the implementation of applications
working on such grids, each built on top of existing parallelization technologies.
However, many approaches require the programmer to introduce a different programming
paradigm into their application or provide different variants of the code. SYCL
is a new programming standard providing a remedy to this dilemma by building on
standard C ++17 with its so-called single-source approach: Programmers write standard
C ++ code and expose parallelism using C++17 keywords. The application is<br />then
transformed into a concrete implementation by the SYCL implementation. By encapsulating
the OpenCL ecosystem, different SYCL implementations enable not only the programming
of CPUs but also of heterogeneous platforms such as GPUs or other devices. For
the first time, this paper showcases a SYCL-<br />based solver for the nodal Discontinuous
Galerkin method for Maxwell’s equations on unstructured meshes. We compare our
solution to a previous C-based implementation with respect to programmability
    and performance on heterogeneous platforms.<br'
