text: "
Abstract
\r\nBackground Children with migration
background are at particular risk for overweight. We assessed the effects of a
primary school-based initiative targeted at enhancing physical activity and dietary
education among children with a high proportion of migration background.
\r\nMethods
Four 3rd and 4th grade classes (n=70 children, 77% with migration background)
participated in a 10-months intervention comprising 2 additional exercise lessons
weekly and 10 nutrition lessons per school year. 6 school classes (n=125 children,
65% with migration background) served as control. Before and after the intervention,
an assessment of physical fitness and motor skills and questionnaires on dietary
behavior and knowledge were conducted. In a subgroup (n=37), after 6 months of
the intervention, daily physical activity was assessed by accelerometer-based
monitoring. Differences in changes between the groups were assessed using linear
regression analyses.
\r\nResults Changes between the 2 time points
for fitness and motor skill tests (differences in standard deviation scores) were
larger in the intervention than in the control group for the total mean test value
(β=0.38, p<0.001), driven by higher improvements in 5 of the 8 test items,
i.e., obstacle race (speed) (β=0.22, p=0.049), standing long jump (strength) (β=0.35,
p<0.001), sit-ups (strength) (β=0.33, p=0.002), stand and reach (mobility)
(β=0.22, p=0.042), and 6 min run (endurance) (β=0.40, p<0.001), independently
of confounders. Changes in dietary knowledge and consumption frequencies did not
differ between groups.
\r\nConclusions Promoting guided physical
activity in a primary school setting with a high proportion of children with migration
background positively affected parameters of fitness and motor skills.
"

text: In this paper, we present an IoT architecture which handles stream sensor
data of air pollution. Particle pollution is known as a serious threat to human
health. Along with developments in the use of wireless sensors and the IoT, we
propose an architecture that flexibly measures and processes stream data collected
in real-time by movable and low-cost IoT sensors. Thus, it enables a wide-spread
network of wireless sensors that can follow changes in human behavior. Apart from
stating reasons for the need of such a development and its requirements, we provide
a conceptual design as well as a technological design of such an architecture.
The technological design consists of Kaa and Apache Storm which can collect air
pollution information in real-time and solve various problems to process data
such as missing data and synchronization. This enables us to add a simulation
in which we provide issues that might come up when having our architecture in
use. Together with these issues, we state r easons for choosing specific modules
among candidates. Our architecture combines wireless sensors with the Kaa IoT
framework, an Apache Kafka pipeline and an Apache Storm Data Stream Management
System among others. We even provide open-government data sets that are freely
available.

text: 'This study proposes a simple theoretical framework that allows for assessing
financial distress up to five years in advance. We jointly model financial distress
by using two of its key driving factors: declining cash-generating ability and
insufficient liquidity reserves. The model is based on stochastic processes and
incorporates firm-level and industry-sector developments. A large-scale empirical
implementation for US-listed firms over the period of 1980-2010 shows important
improvements in the discriminatory accuracy and demonstrates incremental information
content beyond state-of-the-art accounting and market-based prediction models.
Consequently, this study might provide important ex ante warning signals for investors,
regulators and practitioners.'

text: 'Additive Fertigungsverfahren (engl.: Additive Manufacturing, kurz: AM) ermöglichen

text: During the last years, alternative drive technologies, for example electrically
powered vehicles (EV), have gained more and more attention, mainly caused by an
increasing awareness of the impact of CO2 emissions on climate change and by the
limitation of fossil fuels. However, these technologies currently come with new
challenges due to limited lithium ion battery storage density and high battery
costs which lead to a considerably reduced range in comparison to conventional
internal combustion engine powered vehicles. For this reason, it is desirable
to increase the vehicle range without enlarging the battery. When the route and
the road slope are known in advance, it is possible to vary the vehicles velocity
within certain limits in order to reduce the overall drivetrain energy consumption.
This may either result in an increased range or, alternatively, in larger energy
reserves for comfort functions such as air conditioning. In this presentation,
we formulate the challenge of range extension as a multiobjective optimal control
problem. We then apply different numerical methods to calculate the so-called
Pareto set of optimal compromises for the drivetrain power profile with respect
to the two concurrent objectives battery state of charge and mean velocity. In
order to numerically solve the optimal control problem by means of a direct method,
a time discretization of the drivetrain power profile is necessary. In combination
with a vehicle dynamics simulation model, the optimal control problem is transformed
into a high dimensional nonlinear optimization problem. For the approximation
of the Pareto set, two different optimization algorithms implemented in the software
package GAIO are used. The first one yields a global optimal solution by applying
a set-oriented subdivision technique to parameter space. By construction, this
technique is limited to coarse discretizations of the drivetrain power profile.
In contrast, the second technique, which is based on an image space continuation
method, is more suitable when the number of parameters is large while the number
of objectives is less than five. We compare the solutions of the two algorithms
and study the influence of different discretizations on the quality of the solutions.
A MATLAB/Simulink model is used to describe the dynamics of an EV. It is based
on a drivetrain efficiency map and considers vehicle properties such as rolling
friction and air drag, as well as environmental conditions like slope and ambient
temperature. The vehicle model takes into account the traction battery too, enabling
an exact prediction of the batterys response to power requests of drivetrain and
auxiliary loads, including state of charge.

text: 'In order to improve the credibility of modern simulation tools, uncertainties
of different kinds have to be considered. This work is focused on epistemic uncertainties
in the framework of continuum mechanics, which are taken into account by fuzzy
analysis. The underlying min-max optimization problem of the extension principle
is approximated by α-discretization, resulting in a separation of minimum and
maximum problems. To become more universal, so-called quantities of interest are
employed, which allow a general formulation for the target problem of interest.
In this way, the relation to parameter identification problems based on least-squares
functions is highlighted. The solutions of the related optimization problems with
simple constraints are obtained with a gradient-based scheme, which is derived
from a sensitvity analysis for the target problem by means of a variational formulation.
Two numerical examples for the fuzzy analysis of material parameters are concerned
with a necking problem at large strain elastoplasticity and a perforated strip
at large strain hyperelasticity to demonstrate the versatility of the proposed
variational formulation. '

text: The transportation of dry fine powders is an emerging technologic task, as
in biotechnology, pharmaceu-tical and coatings industry the particle sizes of
processed powders get smaller and smaller. Fine powdersare primarily defined by
the fact that adhesive and cohesive forces outweigh the weight forces, leadingto
mostly unwanted agglomeration (clumping) and adhesion to surfaces. Thereby it
gets more difficult touse conventional conveyor systems (e.g. pneumatic or vibratory
conveyors) for transport. A rather newmethod for transporting these fine powders
is based on ultrasonic vibrations, which are used to reducefriction between powder
and substrate. Within this contribution an experimental set-up consisting of apipe,
a solenoid actuator for axial vibration and an annular piezoelectric actuator
for the high frequencyradial vibration of the pipe is described. Since amplitudes
of the radial pipe vibration should be as large aspossible to get high effects
of friction reduction, the pipe is excited to vibrate in resonance. To determinethe
optimum excitation frequency and actuator position the vibration modes and resonance
frequenciesof the pipe are calculated and measured. Results are in good accordance.

text: Piezoelectric inertia motors also known as stick-slip motors or (smooth) impact
drives use the inertia of a body to drive it in small steps by means of an uninterrupted
friction contact. In addition to the typical advantages of piezoelectric motors,
they are especially suited for miniaturisation due to their simple structure and
inherent fine-positioning capability. Originally developed for positioning in
microscopy in the 1980s, they have nowadays also found application in mass-produced
consumer goods. Recent research results are likely to enable more applications
of piezoelectric inertia motors in the future. This contribution gives a critical
overview of their historical development, functional principles, and related terminology.
The most relevant aspects regarding their design i.e., friction contact, solid
state actuator, and electrical excitation are discussed, including aspects of
control and simulation. The article closes with an outlook on possible future
developments and research perspectives.

text: 'This study proposes a simple theoretical framework that allows for assessing
financial distress up to five years in advance.
Consequently, this study might provide important ex ante warning signals for investors,
regulators and practitioners. '
