The\r\ntechnique is applicable to a wide range of scene types, like scenes directly\r\nbased on complex and detailed CAD data consisting of billions of polygons (in\r\ncontrast to scenes handcrafted solely for visualization). This allows to\r\nvisualize such scenes smoothly even in VR on a HMD with good image quality,\r\nwhile maintaining the necessary frame-rates. In contrast to other point based\r\nrendering methods, we place points in an approximated blue noise distribution\r\nonly on visible surfaces and store them in a highly GPU efficient data\r\nstructure, allowing to progressively refine the number of rendered points to\r\nmaximize the image quality for a given target frame rate. Our evaluation shows\r\nthat scenes consisting of a high amount of polygons can be rendered with\r\ninteractive frame rates with good visual quality on standard hardware."}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"16341","user_id":"15415","status":"public","year":"2019","title":"Rendering of Complex Heterogenous Scenes using Progressive Blue Surfels","author":[{"id":"11648","first_name":"Sascha","orcid":"0000-0003-3546-203X","last_name":"Brandt","full_name":"Brandt, Sascha"},{"full_name":"Jähn, Claudius","first_name":"Claudius","last_name":"Jähn"},{"id":"146","full_name":"Fischer, Matthias","first_name":"Matthias","last_name":"Fischer"},{"id":"15523","first_name":"Friedhelm","last_name":"Meyer auf der Heide","full_name":"Meyer auf der Heide, Friedhelm"}],"date_updated":"2022-01-06T06:52:49Z"},{"doi":"10.1016/b978-0-12-818634-3.50138-7","user_id":"29891","_id":"13442","publisher":"29th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2022-01-06T06:51:36Z","publication_status":"published","year":"2019","title":"Numerical Simulation of Forced Convection in a Microchannel with Realistic Roughness of 3D Printed Surface","status":"public","publication_identifier":{"isbn":["9780128186343"],"issn":["1570-7946"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Manavi, Seyed Alborz","first_name":"Seyed Alborz","last_name":"Manavi"},{"last_name":"Kenig","first_name":"Eugeny","full_name":"Kenig, Eugeny","id":"665"}],"type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"145"}],"place":"Eindhoven, Netherlands","date_created":"2019-09-23T07:06:11Z","project":[{"_id":"52","name":"Computing Resources Provided by the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing"}],"publication":"Computer Aided Chemical Engineering","citation":{"ama":"Manavi SA, Kenig E. This process is used to produce customer-specific and complex geometries (prototypes and small series) on organic sheets. A comparable serial process is the injection of a second component onto organic sheets by injection molding. A sufficient bond between the PF structure and the organic sheets is of particular importance for each application. If this is not guaranteed, the composite system cannot withstand the mechanical load and fails. The force exerted on the system can no longer be transmitted between the PF structure and the organic sheet. The organic sheet is made of glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP). The connection between the organic sheet and the PF structure is achieved by welding the molten polymer droplets and the surface of the organic sheet. The PF structures are made of PP to ensure sufficient compatibility with regard to the weldability of the components. The processing of PP in the PF process is a challenge because PP is a semicrystalline material. The shrinkage of semi-crystalline materials is significantly higher compared to amorphous materials. Due to the layered structure of the components, the shrinkage of the individual layers results in undesired warpage. The adhesive strength between the organic sheet and the PF structure is investigated by determining the bending strength in the 3-point bending test. The investigations include an optimization of the process parameters to maximize the adhesive strength. The experimental investigations show that an increase of the nozzle and build chamber temperature leads to a higher adhesive strength. In further investigations, the temperature of the nozzle shows no significant influence on the surface temperature despite the expected heat radiation. The surface temperature is almost only dependent on the temperature of the build chamber."}],"quality_controlled":"1"},{"extern":"1","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"
While observational studies show an association between 25(OH)vitamin D concentrations and depressive symptoms, intervention studies, which examine the preventive effects of vitamin D supplementation on the development of depression, are lacking. To estimate the role of lowered 25(OH)vitamin D concentrations in the etiology of depressive disorders, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study on depression, i.e., “depressive symptoms” (DS, n = 161,460) and “broad depression” (BD, n = 113,769 cases and 208,811 controls). Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which were genome-wide significantly associated with 25(OH)vitamin D concentrations in 79,366 subjects from the SUNLIGHT genome-wide association study (GWAS), were used as an instrumental variable. None of the six SNPs was associated with DS or BD (all p > 0.05). MR analysis revealed no causal effects of 25(OH)vitamin D concentration, either on DS (inverse variance weighted (IVW); b = 0.025, SE = 0.038, p = 0.52) or on BD (IVW; b = 0.020, SE = 0.012, p = 0.10). Sensitivity analyses confirmed that 25(OH)vitamin D concentrations were not significantly associated with DS or BD. The findings from this MR study indicate no causal relationship between vitamin D concentrations and depressive symptoms, or broad depression. Conflicting findings from observational studies might have resulted from residual confounding or reverse causation.
"}],"citation":{"short":"L. Libuda, B.-H. There have been numerous studies highlighting the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) in different educational settings and its impacts on learners in terms of increased motivation, learning, focus, and more. AR applications are suitable for use in formal as well as informal learning environments and educational institutions, starting with art courses in pre-schools or biology, history, chemistry, physics etc. in secondary schools and universities. Despite the increasing number of studies, only a few AR applications are based on a suitable didactic principle. In addition, there is a lack of general studies investigating the learning-promoting characteristics of AR in the field of preparation and conduction of laboratory trainings. Current studies merely extend printed learning content with additional links, videos, or static 3D models or require special prerequisites for using the AR application.\r\nTherefore, this article examines and focuses on a design concept for a mobile-based AR application (App) for acquiring and deepening practical skills in handling laboratory equipment and components. In a previous work, the possibilities and limitations of AR technology in engineering education, with a particular focus on laboratory work, were investigated in order to avoid frequent design mistakes. The didactic concept in this project is based on the constructive alignment according to Biggs with the definition of the three compulsory steps: learning objectives (or intended learning outcome), teaching / learning activities and assessments. The learning objectives were further concretized in the next step, based on the revised Bloom taxonomy according to Anderson and Krathwohl to derive and design possible teaching scenarios in AR.
