However, when no gradient information is available, the examination of formal convergence or optimality criteria is often impossible. Thus, sophisticated heuristic online stopping criteria (OSC) have recently become subject of intensive research. In order to establish formal guidelines for a systematic research, we present a taxonomy of OSC in this paper. We integrate the known approaches within the taxonomy and discuss them by extracting their building blocks. The formal structure of the taxonomy is used as a basis for the implementation of a comprehensive MATLAB toolbox. Both contributions, the formal taxonomy and the MATLAB implementation, provide a framework for the analysis and evaluation of existing and new OSC approaches.","lang":"eng"}],"publisher":"Springer Berlin Heidelberg","_id":"46402","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"page":"16–30","editor":[{"full_name":"Takahashi, Ricardo H. However, normally only standard techniques are employed by the engineering experts. Here, it is shown how these standard techniques can be completed and improved with respect to interactivity to other tools, runtime, and parameterization. The coupling with metamodels serves as an example for the interactivity to other tools, while the online convergence detection relates to runtime, i.e. stopping criteria. Finally, sequential parameter optimization improves results focussing on parameter tuning. We show that invoking all these methods on their own already enhances EMOAs for aerodynamic applications. It is concluded with an outlook on how these methods might come together to foster aerospace applications and, at a time, widen the application area to multi-disciplinary optimization tasks. Specifically, the spatial correlation is induced by a colored source over a frequency-flat single-input multiple-output (SIMO) channel distorted by independent and identically distributed noises with temporal correlation. The generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) for this detection problem does not have a closed-form expression and we have to resort to numerical optimization techniques. In particular, we apply the successive convex approximations approach which relies on solving a series of convex problems that approximate the original (non-convex) one. The proposed solution resembles a power method for obtaining the dominant eigenvector of a matrix, which changes over iterations. Finally, the performance of the proposed detector is illustrated by means of computer simulations showing a great improvement over previously proposed detectors that do not fully exploit the temporal structure of the source.","lang":"eng"}],"_id":"40835","user_id":"43497","doi":"10.1109/ICASSP.2011.5947194","author":[{"last_name":"Ramírez","first_name":"D.","full_name":"Ramírez, D."},{"full_name":"Vía, J.","last_name":"Vía","first_name":"J."},{"full_name":"Santamaría, I.","first_name":"I.","last_name":"Santamaría"},{"full_name":"Scharf, L. We express the optimal node beamformers in terms of the relay beamformers, and show that the capacity region can be efficiently characterized using convex optimization techniques. Since some material parameters (mainly \\textgreek{e}S 11, e15and cE 44) do not or only marginally influence the electrical impedance over frequency, it is not sufficient to look only at the electri- cal impedance of discoidal piezoceramics [1]. Moreover, the parameter sensitivities vary with respect to the diameter-thickness ratio of the disc and the design of an ultrasonic transducer's piezoceramic has to match other requirements than those of a good material characterization [2, 3]. That is why it is still desirable to find model based approaches for parameter identification that either keep the technical effort low (e.g., only an impedance measurement) or increase speed of the inversion procedure. In this contribution we answer the question if an additional analytical approximation of cE 44, strictly following the ideas of Theocaris [4], in conjunction with a single measured elec- trical impedance will be sufficient for an accurate simulation of both, electrical impedance and surface normal velocity of a piezoceramic disc. Thereby, the remaining parameters are identified by means of the Inverse Method. Furthermore, we use the parameter ap- proximation as an initial guess and limiting boundary to speed up the inverse algorithm if both, electrical impedance and surface normal velocity are taken into account within the optimization procedure."}],"_id":"14547","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"15911","author":[{"first_name":"Jens","last_name":"Rautenberg","full_name":"Rautenberg, Jens"},{"first_name":"Stefan J.","last_name":"Rupitsch","full_name":"Rupitsch, Stefan J."},{"first_name":"Bernd","last_name":"Henning","full_name":"Henning, Bernd","id":"213"},{"full_name":"Lerch, Reinhard","first_name":"Reinhard","last_name":"Lerch"}],"status":"public","title":"Utilizing an Analytical Approximation for c44E to Enhance the Inverse Method for Material Parameter Identification of Piezoceramics","year":"2011","date_updated":"2026-02-25T14:08:22Z"},{"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"293"},{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"15"},{"_id":"170"},{"_id":"230"}],"date_created":"2023-03-29T21:25:40Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"For numerous applications, the computation and provision of exact derivative information plays an important role for optimizing the considered system. Over the course of puberty, CHO quality changed little: added sugar intake from beverages increased in girls (0·25 (se 0·12) % energy (% E)/year, P = 0·04) and added sugar intake from sweets decreased in both sexes (boys: − 0·22 (se 0·11) % E/year, P = 0·049; girls: − 0·20 (se 0·10) % E/year, P = 0·04). For both sexes, significant upward secular trends were observed for CHO (% E), glycaemic load (g/MJ) and added sugar intakes from sources other than sweets and soft drinks (% E), while absolute fibre intake (g/d) decreased (P ≤ 0·04). Concomitant increases in total added sugar intake (% E) and decreases in fibre and whole-grain densities (g/MJ) (P = 0·001–0·02) were confined to boys only. The quality of dietary CHO consumed by healthy German adolescents shows notable secular declines, but does not change markedly during puberty. Public health initiatives should be tailored to improve the overall quality of CHO nutrition.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"British Journal of Nutrition","citation":{"mla":"Cheng, Guo, et al. “Trends in Dietary Carbohydrate Quality during Puberty from 1988 to 2007: A Cause for Concern?” <i>British Journal of Nutrition</i>, 2010, pp. 1375–83, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1017/s0007114510002278\">10.1017/s0007114510002278</a>.","bibtex":"@article{Cheng_Libuda_Karaolis-Danckert_Alexy_Bolzenius_Remer_Buyken_2010, title={Trends in dietary carbohydrate quality during puberty from 1988 to 2007: a cause for concern?}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1017/s0007114510002278\">10.1017/s0007114510002278</a>}, journal={British Journal of Nutrition}, author={Cheng, Guo and Libuda, Lars and Karaolis-Danckert, Nadina and Alexy, Ute and Bolzenius, Katja and Remer, Thomas and Buyken, Anette}, year={2010}, pages={1375–1383} }","ama":"Cheng G, Libuda L, Karaolis-Danckert N, et al. However, the importance of specific nutrients is controversial. We examined relevant nutrients which are supposed to have an impact on bone parameters and compared their effect sizes with those of two known predictors of bone development: bone-related muscle mass and androgen levels. We analysed nutritional, hormonal and anthropometric data from 107 prepubertal children participating in the Dortmund Nutritional and Anthropometric Longitudinally Designed Study. Diaphyseal bone mineral content (BMC), cortical area (CA), periosteal circumference, strength strain index and muscle area of the non-dominant forearm were measured by peripheral quantitative computed tomography. Data on long-term nutrient intakes (e.g. protein, Ca and vitamin D) were derived from 3 d weighed dietary records. Twenty-four hour urinary excretion rates of androgen metabolites including the sex steroid androstenediol were measured using GC–MS. Of all considered nutrients, only protein showed a trend for an association with BMC (β = +0·11; P = 0·073) and CA (β = +0·11; P = 0·056) in stepwise linear regression models. None of the other considered dietary variables was associated with bone parameters. The size of the bone anabolic effect of protein was partly comparable with that of androstenediol. Even though boys gained more bone mass in comparison with girls, the protein effect did not differ between sexes. Bone-related muscle area and sex steroids have the strongest effects on prepubertal diaphyseal bone. However, dietary protein may have a similar bone anabolic influence compared with androstenediol. In children without explicit nutrient deficits, protein seems to be the most important dietary component for diaphyseal bone status.
"}],"publication":"British Journal of Nutrition","citation":{"chicago":"Libuda, Lars, Stefan A.
