Currently, the installation of blind rivet nuts still requires pre-drilling using chip-forming operations. In Meschut and Meyer (Vorlochfreies Setzen von Funktionselementen mittels Fließformen, Europäische Forschungsgesellschaft für Blechverarbeitung e.V. (EFB), Hannover, 2021), a chipless, two-step method for installing blind rivet nuts was developed, in which flow-drilling is the initial step. To eliminate the pre-drilling operation and optimise the joining process of blind rivet nuts, a pilot-hole-free joining method using a flow-drilling process is being pursued. The use of these blind rivet nuts can significantly simplify the joining process by eliminating chip-forming pre-drilling operations. Additionally, the screw-through capability reduces screw variance in automated fastening, optimising the feeding process by minimising the risk of incorrect screw selection. This work aims to develop a single-step process for the installation of a blind rivet nut. To achieve this, it is necessary to design the geometries of both the blind rivet nut and the flow-drill former, which also serves as the mandrel for the blind rivet nut. In addition to the geometries of the tools and functional elements, the flow-drilling process itself has been developed. Special attention is given to the pull-through and the formation of the closing head. To optimise the closing head formation, an iterative optimization process was used. The quality of the pull-through is improved by varying the tip geometries and adjusting the process parameters during flow-drilling.
","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2026-07-31T07:00:58Z","type":"journal_article","status":"public","publisher":"Springer Science and Business Media LLC","_id":"66622","user_id":"84119","volume":5,"citation":{"short":"Y. A major engineering challenge is the optimization of the fixed‐bed reactor design, specifically the heat dissipation in regions of high reaction heat release. A mitigation concept is the introduction of inert material into the fixed bed, called catalyst dilution. In this study, a 1D continuity model is presented, which aims to predict catalyst superheating. This model is used in an exploratory study to identify system sensitivity and optimization parameters. Subsequently, an optimization framework for improving the reactor design is tested, resulting in a 148‐K reduction in peak catalyst temperature when using a 33.3 vol% catalyst dilution.\r\n
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Chemie Ingenieur Technik"},{"date_updated":"2026-07-01T12:14:04Z","intvolume":" 16525","status":"public","year":"2026","title":"LLM Driven Design of Continuous Optimization Problems with Controllable High-Level Properties","author":[{"id":"103764","full_name":"Skvorc, Urban","first_name":"Urban","last_name":"Skvorc"},{"full_name":"van Stein, Niki","last_name":"van Stein","first_name":"Niki"},{"id":"105520","first_name":"Moritz","last_name":"Seiler","full_name":"Seiler, Moritz"},{"id":"103682","full_name":"Grimme, Britta","last_name":"Grimme","first_name":"Britta"},{"full_name":"Bäck, Thomas","first_name":"Thomas","last_name":"Bäck"},{"full_name":"Trautmann, Heike","last_name":"Trautmann","orcid":"0000-0002-9788-8282","first_name":"Heike","id":"100740"}],"user_id":"15504","doi":"10.1007/978-3-032-23607-4_12","volume":16525,"editor":[{"first_name":"Pablo","last_name":"García-Sánchez","full_name":"García-Sánchez, Pablo"},{"last_name":"lvarez","first_name":"Josefa Díaz","full_name":"lvarez, Josefa Díaz"},{"last_name":"Murphy","first_name":"Aidan","full_name":"Murphy, Aidan"}],"page":"183–199","_id":"66095","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publisher":"Springer","series_title":"Lecture Notes in Computer Science","publication":"Applications of Evolutionary Computation - 29th European Conference, EvoApplications 2026, Held as Part of EvoStar 2026, Toulouse, France, April 8-10, 2026, Proceedings, Part II","citation":{"mla":"Skvorc, Urban, et al. “LLM Driven Design of Continuous Optimization Problems with Controllable High-Level Properties.” <i>Applications of Evolutionary Computation - 29th European Conference, EvoApplications 2026, Held as Part of EvoStar 2026, Toulouse, France, April 8-10, 2026, Proceedings, Part II</i>, edited by Pablo García-Sánchez et al., vol. 16525, Springer, 2026, pp. 183–199, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-032-23607-4_12\">10.1007/978-3-032-23607-4_12</a>.","ama":"Skvorc U, van Stein N, Seiler M, Grimme B, Bäck T, Trautmann H. Spatially‐resolved dark‐field scattering measurements reveal that high‐aspect‐ratio AuNP pillars exhibit uniform scattering spectra along their height and across different pillars, despite variations in geometry and structure. Electromagnetic simulations suggest that this robustness arises from a collective many‐particle plasmonic response that remains optically active despite structural perturbations. The corresponding near‐field and surface‐charge distributions remain spatially distributed under representative structural perturbations, consistent with volumetric averaging across the three‐dimensional assembly. Building on this robust platform, we introduce compositional modulation through a core–satellite architecture by incorporating smaller AuNPs. This yields a composition‐dependent spectral redistribution, including the emergence of an additional long‐wavelength spectral feature in the core–satellite assemblies. Wavelength‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering measurements reveal contrasting responses under 633 and 785 nm excitation, reflecting redistribution of local plasmonic coupling pathways. These results provide process‐enabled guidelines for using meniscus‐guided 3D‐nanoprinting to realize robust nanoparticle assemblies.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2026-08-03T06:43:03Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"15"},{"_id":"230"},{"_id":"289"},{"_id":"623"}],"title":"Spatially Uniform and Defect‐Tolerant Plasmonic Responses in 3D Printed Gold Nanoparticle Assemblies","year":"2026","author":[{"id":"103814","full_name":"Devaraj, Vasanthan","first_name":"Vasanthan","last_name":"Devaraj"},{"full_name":"Kwak, Sunghyun","first_name":"Sunghyun","last_name":"Kwak"},{"full_name":"Kim, Hyeongjip","last_name":"Kim","first_name":"Hyeongjip"},{"full_name":"Sung, Sang‐Keun","first_name":"Sang‐Keun","last_name":"Sung"},{"last_name":"Lee","first_name":"Jong‐Min","full_name":"Lee, Jong‐Min"},{"full_name":"Zentgraf, Thomas","orcid":"0000-0002-8662-1101","first_name":"Thomas","last_name":"Zentgraf","id":"30525"},{"last_name":"Kim","first_name":"Won‐Geun","full_name":"Kim, Won‐Geun"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1863-8880","1863-8899"]},"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-08-03T06:45:01Z","article_type":"original","article_number":"e71686","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/lpor.71686"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1002/lpor.71686"},{"page":"134–142","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"66670","publisher":"ACM","doi":"10.1145/3795095.3805136","user_id":"15504","editor":[{"full_name":"Trujillo, Leonardo","last_name":"Trujillo","first_name":"Leonardo"},{"first_name":"Ting","last_name":"Hu","full_name":"Hu, Ting"}],"status":"public","title":"Digging to the Ground Truth: Solving Multi-objective Gray-Box Optimization Problems through Hyperplane Elimination","year":"2026","author":[{"id":"75006","full_name":"Mensendiek, Carolin","first_name":"Carolin","last_name":"Mensendiek"},{"id":"102978","full_name":"Preuß, Oliver Ludger","last_name":"Preuß","orcid":"0009-0008-9308-2418","first_name":"Oliver Ludger"},{"id":"102977","first_name":"Jeroen","last_name":"Rook","full_name":"Rook, Jeroen"},{"full_name":"Chicano, Francisco","last_name":"Chicano","first_name":"Francisco"},{"first_name":"Darrell","last_name":"Whitley","full_name":"Whitley, Darrell"},{"full_name":"Trautmann, Heike","first_name":"Heike","orcid":"0000-0002-9788-8282","last_name":"Trautmann","id":"100740"}],"date_updated":"2026-08-06T07:00:02Z","date_created":"2026-08-06T06:59:20Z","type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"819"}],"publication":"Proceedings of the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference, GECCO 2026, Centro Internacional de Convenciones CIC-ANDE, San Jose, Costa Rica, July 13-17, 2026","citation":{"ieee":"C. The viscoelastic relaxation of a thermoplastic nut, which is predominantly screwed on a welding stud, is described by a material card using Prony Series. Prony Series are derived from experimental dynamical mechanical analysis with different moisture and fiber contents of the thermoplastic. Since plastic nuts usually do not have preformed threads, the increased temperatures and resulting stresses from the thread-forming process are considered in the simulation. An FE model is created and verified by substrate stress relaxation tests. Experimental clamp load measurements with miniature compression load cells verify the clamp load prediction and show a good agreement. The developed model is used to analyze the clamp load distribution within the threads and reveals an almost even distribution within the threads.","lang":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Wippermann, Jan, and Gerson Meschut. “Numerical Modeling of Clamp Load Relaxation of Plastic Nuts under Varying Moisture and Fiber Contents.” <i>Welding in the World</i>, Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2025, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/s40194-025-01928-4\">10.1007/s40194-025-01928-4</a>.","bibtex":"@article{Wippermann_Meschut_2025, title={Numerical modeling of clamp load relaxation of plastic nuts under varying moisture and fiber contents}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/s40194-025-01928-4\">10.1007/s40194-025-01928-4</a>}, journal={Welding in the World}, publisher={Springer Science and Business Media LLC}, author={Wippermann, Jan and Meschut, Gerson}, year={2025} }","ama":"Wippermann J, Meschut G. Particularly, the joining of structures to be thermally coupled, such as the battery modules and the thermal management system (TMS), poses new challenges in process design. Factors that limit the process include the increased density, viscosity, and abrasiveness of thermal pastes as well as the pressure sensitivity of battery modules. The research presented aims to systematically investigate the influences of joining parameters on flow behavior, the formation of air inclusions, and the occurring joining forces to understand and systematically optimize the joining process. Employing a test setup following the Closing-Hele-Shaw-Cell, the influence of specific process parameters on the joining process such as the joining speed, joining gap, application pattern, and temperature was investigated for a silicone- and a polyurethane-based thermally conductive paste. The results indicate a high dependency of both the ensuing joining forces and the flow behavior on the parameters investigated. These insights imply a potential systematic parameter optimization and the specific adaptation of the joining process to improve flow behavior and reduce compressive stresses. This can ensure lower component deformations and qualify the process for the employment of cell types with a higher power density, a reduced encapsulation, and lower stiffness while at the same time improving production rates.","lang":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","_id":"58454","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publisher":"Springer Science and Business Media LLC","doi":"10.1007/s40194-025-01929-3","user_id":"44391","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0043-2288","1878-6669"]},"author":[{"first_name":"Julian","last_name":"Gilich","full_name":"Gilich, Julian","id":"44391"},{"first_name":"Dominik","last_name":"Teutenberg","full_name":"Teutenberg, Dominik","id":"537"},{"full_name":"Meschut, Gerson","last_name":"Meschut","orcid":"0000-0002-2763-1246","first_name":"Gerson","id":"32056"},{"first_name":"B.","last_name":"Gröger","full_name":"Gröger, B."},{"first_name":"F.","last_name":"Wiebicke","full_name":"Wiebicke, F."},{"full_name":"Koch, I.","last_name":"Koch","first_name":"I."},{"full_name":"Gude, M.","first_name":"M.","last_name":"Gude"}],"year":"2025","status":"public","title":"Effects of various process parameters in the joining process on the squeeze flow of highly viscous thermal interface materials","date_updated":"2025-01-31T12:22:09Z","publication_status":"published"},{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Background: Agility is crucial in game sports, requiring both motor and cognitive skills. Athletes must perceive and process information to adapt movements, yet traditional agility tests often lack cognitive and multidirectional demands. Additionally, modern test systems are mostly stationary. This study evaluated the novel and portable “Functional Agility Square Test” (FAST) for validity, reliability, and usefulness. Methods: To assess discriminant validity, 22 game sports (GS) and 22 non-game sports (NGS) athletes participated in one session. Test–retest reliability was examined with 36 GS athletes (20 female) across three sessions. Participants performed cognitive (FAST_COG), preplanned (FAST_MOT), and randomized (FAST_SAT) reactive change-of-direction tasks, each repeated three times per session. Results: Results showed significantly lower response times (RTs) in GS compared to NGS (p &lt; 0.05). Mean RTs indicated moderate relative reliability (ICC 0.50–0.74), while medians showed moderate to good reliability (ICC 0.59–0.83). Usefulness was evident from the first session (FAST_MOT) or from the third session (FAST_SAT) based on median RTs. Conclusions: Thus, the FAST seems to be valid, reliable, and sensitive for GS-based agility assessment. Its portable setup enables ecologically valid field testing. Future research should further increase task complexity to better simulate game conditions.
"}],"publication":"Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology","issue":"2","type":"journal_article","date_created":"2025-04-16T09:15:59Z","intvolume":" 10","date_updated":"2025-04-16T09:19:31Z","publication_status":"published","author":[{"last_name":"Müller","first_name":"Romina Desiree","full_name":"Müller, Romina Desiree","id":"62569"},{"id":"41088","full_name":"Büchel, Daniel","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Büchel"},{"last_name":"Baumeister","first_name":"Jochen","orcid":"0000-0003-2683-5826","full_name":"Baumeister, Jochen","id":"46"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2411-5142"]},"title":"Validation, Reliability, and Usefulness of the Functional Agility Square Test [FAST]","year":"2025","doi":"10.3390/jfmk10020126","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"126","citation":{"ieee":"R. Conventionally, the input DC-link voltage is controlled to operate the LLC converter at resonance for the given operating point. However, the DC-link capacitor voltage shows a low-frequency voltage ripple (typically the second harmonic of grid frequency) in cascaded converters so that the LLC has to adapt its switching frequency within the grid period. Conventionally, the LLC converter operates 50% of the time above the resonant frequency of 40 kHz and 50% below resonance. Both operating conditions cause additional losses. However, experimental measurements indicate that the below-resonance operation causes significantly higher losses than above-resonance operation due to much higher primary and secondary transformer currents. It is better to increase the DC-link voltage by 30% of the peak-to-peak low-frequency voltage ripple to mostly avoid below-resonance operation (i.e., from 650 V to 680 V in this case). With the proposed control, the LLC converter operates about 75% of time over resonance and only 25% of time below resonance. The overall efficiency increases from 97.66% to 97.7% for the average operating point with an 80% load current. This corresponds to a 2% total loss reduction. Finally, the peak resonance capacitor voltage decreases from 910 V to 790 V (−13%).","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"8","publication":"Electronics","department":[{"_id":"52"}],"keyword":["adaptive DC-link voltage","cascaded H-bridge","resonant operation","Full-Bridge Converter","loss minimization","LLC Resonant Converter","peak capacitor voltage reduction"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2025-05-05T12:27:39Z"},{"user_id":"40387","doi":"10.1007/s35834-024-00468-z","_id":"58531","publisher":"Springer Science and Business Media LLC","language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2025-06-10T09:05:24Z","title":"Basisdimensionen der Unterrichtsqualität im Kontext des Erwerbs digitaler Kompetenzen an resilienten Schulen","status":"public","year":"2025","author":[{"last_name":"Drossel","first_name":"Kerstin","full_name":"Drossel, Kerstin","id":"48921"},{"full_name":"Niemann, Jan","last_name":"Niemann","first_name":"Jan","id":"32467"},{"first_name":"Anna","last_name":"Oldak","full_name":"Oldak, Anna","id":"98273"},{"id":"40387","full_name":"Eickelmann, Birgit","last_name":"Eickelmann","orcid":"0000-0001-6124-746X","first_name":"Birgit"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2190-6890","2190-6904"]},"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"462"}],"date_created":"2025-02-07T06:53:08Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"
Zusammenfassung
\r\n
"}],"publication":"Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung","citation":{"chicago":"Drossel, Kerstin, Jan Niemann, Anna Oldak, and Birgit Eickelmann. “Basisdimensionen der Unterrichtsqualität im Kontext des Erwerbs digitaler Kompetenzen an resilienten Schulen.” <i>Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung</i>, 2025. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/s35834-024-00468-z\">https://doi.org/10.1007/s35834-024-00468-z</a>.","short":"K. However, silicon oxide surfaces come in many different forms and the type and history of the silicon oxide has a large effect on its physicochemical surface properties. Therefore, we here investigate DNA origami lattice formation on differently fabricated SiOx films on silicon wafers after wet-chemical oxidation by RCA1. Despite having similar oxide compositions and hydroxylation states, of all surfaces tested, only thermally grown SiOx performs similarly well as native oxide. For the other SiOx films deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition and magnetron sputtering, DNA origami adsorption is strongly suppressed. This is attributed to an increased surface roughness and a lower oxide density, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the employed SiOx surface may decide over the outcome of an experiment and should be considered as an additional parameter that may require optimization and fine-tuning before high-quality lattices can be assembled. In particular, our observations suggest that efficient DNA origami lattice assembly on SiOx surfaces requires a low surface roughness and a high oxide density.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2025-02-12T14:49:48Z","department":[{"_id":"302"}],"type":"journal_article"},{"external_id":{"pmid":["39915806"]},"date_created":"2025-06-11T08:45:21Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"22"}],"publication":"Cardiovasc Diabetol","issue":"1","citation":{"ieee":"K.
