These applications require state-of-the-art engineering to reach optimized functionalities such as high directivity and radiation efficiency, low sidelobe levels, broadband and tunable capabilities, and compact design. In this work, we report on the numerical optimization of the directivity of optical traveling wave antennas made from low-loss dielectric materials using full-wave numerical simulations in conjunction with the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The antennas are composed of a reflector and a director deposited on a glass substrate, and an emitter placed in the feed gap between them serves as an internal source of excitation. In particular, we analyze antennas with rectangular- and horn-shaped directors made of either hafnium dioxide or silicon. The optimized antennas produce highly directional emissions due to the presence of two dominant guided TE modes in the director in addition to leaky modes. These guided modes dominate the far-field emission pattern and govern the direction of the main lobe emission, which predominately originates from the end facet of the director. Our work also provides a comprehensive analysis of the modes, radiation patterns, parametric influences, and bandwidths of the antennas, which highlights their robust nature."}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1364/josab.438514","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0740-3224","1520-8540"]},"author":[{"first_name":"Henna","orcid":"0000-0001-7730-3489","last_name":"Farheen","full_name":"Farheen, Henna","id":"53444"},{"last_name":"Leuteritz","first_name":"Till","full_name":"Leuteritz, Till"},{"full_name":"Linden, Stefan","first_name":"Stefan","last_name":"Linden"},{"last_name":"Myroshnychenko","first_name":"Viktor","full_name":"Myroshnychenko, Viktor","id":"46371"},{"id":"158","last_name":"Förstner","first_name":"Jens","orcid":"0000-0001-7059-9862","full_name":"Förstner, Jens"}],"title":"Optimization of optical waveguide antennas for directive emission of light","year":"2022","intvolume":" 39","date_updated":"2024-07-22T07:45:12Z","publication_status":"published","oa":"1","citation":{"ieee":"H. In this paper, we design and optimize three distinct broadband traveling-wave tantalum pentoxide antennas exhibiting highly directional characteristics. Our antennas contain a director and reflector deposited on a glass substrate, which are excited by a dipole emitter placed in the feed gap between the two elements. Full-wave simulations in conjunction with global optimization provide structures with an enhanced linear directivity as high as 119 radiating in the substrate. The high directivity is a result of the interplay between two dominant TE modes and the leaky modes present in the antenna director. Furthermore, these low-loss dielectric antennas exhibit a near-unity radiation efficiency at the operational wavelength of 780 nm and maintain a broad bandwidth. Our numerical results are in good agreement with experimental measurements from the optimized antennas fabricated using a two-step electron-beam lithography, revealing the highly directive nature of our structures. We envision that our antenna designs can be conveniently adapted to other dielectric materials and prove instrumental for inter-chip optical communications and other on-chip applications."}],"date_created":"2022-05-18T16:39:17Z","keyword":["tet_topic_opticalantenna"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"61"},{"_id":"230"},{"_id":"429"}]},{"citation":{"apa":"Butzhammer, L., Müller, A. One way to enable such 3D scan trajectories is to use a 6-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) object manipulator system. In our case, a hexapod is mounted on top of the rotary table of a commercial CT scanner. This allows for adaptive tilting of the measurement object during the scan. For high accuracy, the geometry calibration of such setups is typically done using the x-ray projections of a calibrated multi-sphere object. Contrary to this, here, we demonstrate a procedure that is based on only a single sphere and can therefore experimentally be implemented with low effort. Using the intrinsic geometry parameters of the CT device as prior information, the hexapod coordinate system with respect to the CT machine coordinate system is determined by means of a one-step optimization approach. The resulting parameters are used to calculate projection matrices that enable the volume reconstruction for 3D scan trajectories. The method is validated using simulated x-ray images and experimental investigations including dimensional measurements. For the used setup, geometric measurement results for 3D scan trajectories that are calibrated with the presented method show in sum increased errors compared to the circular scans. A limited pose accuracy of the manipulator system is discussed as a potential cause. The results nevertheless indicate that the presented method is generally feasible for dimensional CT measurements provided that the pose accuracy is sufficient. The calibration procedure can therefore be a low-cost and easier to implement alternative compared to trajectory calibration methods based on multi-sphere objects, but with a tendency towards lower measurement accuracy. The methodology can in principle be transferred to different setups with 6-DOF manipulator systems, e.g. C-arm CT devices with a robot arm."}],"date_created":"2022-12-07T10:46:14Z","department":[{"_id":"630"}],"keyword":["Applied Mathematics","Instrumentation","Engineering (miscellaneous)"],"type":"journal_article","author":[{"last_name":"Butzhammer","first_name":"Lorenz","full_name":"Butzhammer, Lorenz"},{"first_name":"Andreas Michael","last_name":"Müller","full_name":"Müller, Andreas Michael"},{"last_name":"Hausotte","first_name":"Tino","full_name":"Hausotte, Tino"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0957-0233","1361-6501"]},"year":"2022","title":"Calibration of 3D scan trajectories for an industrial computed tomography setup with 6-DOF object manipulator system using a single sphere","intvolume":" 34","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-01-13T14:34:31Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"015403","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1361-6501/ac9856","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"10.1088/1361-6501/ac9856"},{"publisher":"American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)","_id":"35206","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"page":"0-0","volume":"0","user_id":"95394","doi":"10.3934/mcrf.2022052","author":[{"last_name":"Bonnard","first_name":"Bernard","full_name":"Bonnard, Bernard"},{"full_name":"Rouot, Jérémy","last_name":"Rouot","first_name":"Jérémy"},{"id":"95394","last_name":"Wembe Moafo","first_name":"Boris Edgar","full_name":"Wembe Moafo, Boris Edgar"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2156-8472","2156-8499"]},"year":"2022","status":"public","title":"Accessibility properties of abnormal geodesics in optimal control illustrated by two case studies","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-01-16T12:07:51Z","date_created":"2023-01-04T10:26:56Z","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Applied Mathematics","Control and Optimization","General Medicine"],"citation":{"ieee":"B. The quantitative description of the material behavior under dynamic loading is of major importance for the evaluation of crash safety. This is carried out using numerical methods and requires characteristic values for the materials used. For the standardized determination of dynamic characteristic values in sheet metal materials, tensile tests performed according to the guideline from [1]. A particular challenge in dynamic tensile tests is the force measurement during the test. For this purpose, strain gauges are attached on each specimen, wired to the measuring equipment and calibrated. This is a common way to determine a force signal that is as low in vibration and as free of bending moments as possible. The preparation effort for the used strain gauges are enormous. For these reasons, an optical method to determine the force by strain measurement using DIC is presented. The experiments are carried out on a high speed tensile testing system. In combioantion with a 3D DIC high speed system for optical strain measurement. The elastic deformation of the specimen in the dynamometric section is measured using strain gauges and the optical method. The measured signals are then compared to validate the presented method. The investigations are conducted using the dual phase steel material HCT590X and the aluminum material EN AW-6014 T4. Strain rates of up to 240 s-1 are investigated.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Key Engineering Materials","department":[{"_id":"157"},{"_id":"630"}],"keyword":["Mechanical Engineering","Mechanics of Materials","General Materials Science"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2022-08-18T09:33:54Z"},{"_id":"36866","page":"91-106","volume":7,"user_id":"44204","jel":["L74"],"conference":{"name":"7. Often focal points of such digital reengineering initiatives are technical and economic aspects. Yet, as integration of new technologies affects how employee work and interact, there is a need to evaluate human-centered criteria (human-factor evaluation), optimally by involving employees as situational experts. OBJECTIVE: The present study develops an integrative and persona-based evaluation approach of human-centered criteria for application in participative digital (re-)design of work to support the joint optimization of the technical and social system. METHODS: Drawing on methods from usability evaluation, a persona-based approach is developed to facilitate comprehension and application of human-centered evaluation by employees. To that end, human-centered criteria from existing evaluation models are systemized with specific reference to digital transformation of work processes. The developed approach is tested in pilot runs of three German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). RESULTS: The initial overview shows a divergence of specific human-centered criteria at the detailed level. Simultaneously, a high convergence is found for overarching dimensions and categories. The Integrative Socio-Digital Evaluation Model (ISDEM) is developed to balance complexity and abstraction of criteria. The derived persona-based approach (persISDEM) shows a good applicability in the pilot runs. CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides an amendment to existing work design approaches with an emphasis on employee participation, enabling organizations to foster employees’ comprehension and motivation to engage in evaluations of digital (re-)design of work and to create motivating and healthy jobs for successful digital transformation.
"}],"issue":"4","publication":"Work","department":[{"_id":"36"},{"_id":"423"}],"keyword":["Public Health","Environmental and Occupational Health","Rehabilitation"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2023-01-26T10:04:11Z","intvolume":" 72","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-01-26T10:07:39Z","author":[{"full_name":"Schumacher, Jan-Philip","first_name":"Jan-Philip","last_name":"Schumacher"},{"id":"32536","first_name":"Sarah","last_name":"Depenbusch","full_name":"Depenbusch, Sarah"},{"first_name":"Tammo","last_name":"Straatmann","full_name":"Straatmann, Tammo"},{"id":"3211","full_name":"Bender, Elena","first_name":"Elena","last_name":"Bender"},{"full_name":"Schaper, Niclas","last_name":"Schaper","first_name":"Niclas"},{"full_name":"Hamborg, Kai-Christoph","first_name":"Kai-Christoph","last_name":"Hamborg"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1051-9815","1875-9270"]},"title":"Participative human-factor evaluation in the context of digital work (re-)design","year":"2022","doi":"10.3233/wor-211248","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"ieee":"J.-P. Long-term medical studies show that the service life and operational safety of a hip prosthesis by best possible adaptation of the stiffness to that of the bone can be increased. The use of additive manufacturing processes enables to specifically change the stiffness of implant structures.
\r\n
\r\n
Conclusions
\r\n
Reduced implant stiffness leads to an increase in stress in the surrounding bone and thus to a reduction in bone resorption. Numerical methods are used to demonstrate this fact in the hip implant developed. The safety of use is nevertheless ensured by evaluating and taking into account the stresses that occur for critical load cases. These results are a promising basis to enable longer service life of prostheses in the future.
\r\n
","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-02-08T07:33:04Z","keyword":["Radiology","Nuclear Medicine and imaging","Biomedical Engineering","General Medicine","Biomaterials","Radiological and Ultrasound Technology"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"143"}]},{"citation":{"mla":"Tews, Karina, et al. “Methodenentwicklung zur numerischen Lebensdauerprognose von hyperelastischen Klebverbindungen infolge zyklischer Beanspruchung mittels bruchmechanischer Ansätze .” <i>22. Concerning the ongoing pandemic and rising development of solutions across organizations, more and more workshops were conducted online with software support. However, existing software tools insufficiently address the different workshop situations in terms of the process (i.e., fixed tasks to conduct), the place (e.g., static online whiteboards), and people (i.e., synchronous working of all stakeholders).\r\nTherefore, we propose a design science study to develop a situation-specific software support that can be configured with flexible development processes, different places, and task-related people. Based on practical experience in existing research projects, we derive the initial design requirements and map them to a set of design principles. Out of that, we design a concept with its implementation as a software tool and point out open challenges.
