[{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"
The mechanical properties of joined structures are determined considerably by the chosen joining technology. With the aim of providing a method that enables a faster and more profound decision-making in the spatial distribution of joining points during product development, a new method for the load path analysis of joining points is presented. For an exemplary car body, the load type in the joining elements, i.e. pure tensile, shear and combined tensile-shear loads, is determined using finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the evaluated loads, the resulting load paths in selected joining points are analyzed using a 2D FE-model of a clinching point. State of the art methods for load path analysis are dependent on the selected coordinate system or the existing stress state. Thus, a general statement about the load transmission path is not possible at this time. Here, a novel method for the analysis of load paths is used, which is independent of the alignment of the analyzed geometry. The basic assumption of the new load path analysis method was confirmed by using a simple specimen with a square hole in different orientations. The results presented here show a possibility to display the load transmission path invariantly. In further steps, the method will be extended for 3D analysis and the investigation of more complex assemblies. The primary goal of this methodical approach is an even load distribution over the joining elements and the component. This will provide a basis for future design approaches aimed at reducing the number of joining elements in joined structures.
"}],"quality_controlled":"1","project":[{"name":"TRR 285: TRR 285","_id":"130","grant_number":"418701707"},{"name":"TRR 285 - B: TRR 285 - Project Area B","_id":"132"},{"name":"TRR 285 – B01: TRR 285 - Subproject B01","_id":"140"}],"publication":"Key Engineering Materials","citation":{"mla":"Steinfelder, Christian, et al. “Load Path Transmission in Joining Elements.” <i>Key Engineering Materials</i>, 2021, pp. 73–80, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.73\">10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.73</a>.","bibtex":"@article{Steinfelder_Martin_Brosius_Tröster_2021, title={Load Path Transmission in Joining Elements}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.73\">10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.73</a>}, journal={Key Engineering Materials}, author={Steinfelder, Christian and Martin, Sven and Brosius, Alexander and Tröster, Thomas}, year={2021}, pages={73–80} }","ama":"Steinfelder C, Martin S, Brosius A, Tröster T. Changes are primarily due to increased product complexity and the connection to the internet of things and services, enabling Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS). Major innovations of the revised VDI guideline 2206 for developing mechatronic systems are systems thinking as a core element and six checkpoints for structuring deliverables along the V-Model. These checkpoints serve for orientation in result progress and thus enable a structured and complete development process. However, tasks and checkpoints of the new guideline focus on the product development itself without integrating the development of related CPPS, enabling optimization simultaneously to system development. Implications are derived by a three-step analysis. The paper at hand contributes fundamental extensions of the checkpoint questions regarding integrated CPPS development. These questions provide methodical support for system developers of CPPS for CPS by enabling the project manager to check the status, schedule further development steps and evaluate the maturity of the whole, integrated development.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2212827121005916","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"10.1016/j.procir.2021.05.119","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2212-8271"]},"author":[{"last_name":"Gräßler","first_name":"Iris","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X","full_name":"Gräßler, Iris","id":"47565"},{"full_name":"Wiechel, Dominik","first_name":"Dominik","last_name":"Wiechel","id":"67161"},{"full_name":"Roesmann, Daniel","last_name":"Roesmann","first_name":"Daniel","id":"54680"},{"id":"33419","full_name":"Thiele, Henrik","first_name":"Henrik","last_name":"Thiele"}],"title":"V-model based development of cyber-physical systems and cyber-physical production systems","year":"2021","date_updated":"2023-05-09T18:22:49Z","publication_status":"published","oa":"1","citation":{"ama":"Gräßler I, Wiechel D, Roesmann D, Thiele H. For this purpose, human factors should be considered in the entire design process. The integrated view of mental human models, the cognitive demand of the working environment and the automation design is essential. Human-System Integration (HSI) constitutes a promising approach. Current model-based approaches offer possibilities to analyze and optimize tasks within an overall system, but they still lack integration. This leads to the research question: How can human factors be integrated into a system model of a socio-technical, Cyber-Physical Production System? The paper at hand contributes an approach of human factor integration into the procedure of Model-Based Systems Engineering for Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS). The approach combines a system model of a CPPS with HSI concepts. In accordance to the benefits of MBSE, SysML is selected to integrate human factors in the development process of a CPPS. The approach is divided into five steps, which includes the extension of the SysML meta model. This allows the optimization of skill-based human-machine interaction. Defined HSI-Profiles enable system developers to integrate employee requirements at early stages within the development process. The approach is demonstrated by the maintenance of a 3D-Printer as a case example. This research enables system developers to depict individual workers with the help of the developed concepts and systematically integrate them into the development process of a CPPS."}],"publication":"Procedia CIRP","citation":{"bibtex":"@inproceedings{Gräßler_Wiechel_Roesmann_2021, title={Integrating human factors in the model based development of cyber-physical production systems}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.procir.2021.05.113\">10.1016/j.procir.2021.05.113</a>}, booktitle={Procedia CIRP}, author={Gräßler, Iris and Wiechel, Dominik and Roesmann, Daniel}, year={2021}, pages={518–523} }","chicago":"Gräßler, Iris, Dominik Wiechel, and Daniel Roesmann. “Integrating Human Factors in the Model Based Development of Cyber-Physical Production Systems.” In <i>Procedia CIRP</i>, 518–23, 2021. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.procir.2021.05.113\">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.procir.2021.05.113</a>.","short":"I. Many process parameters affect the bond strength, such like the bond normal force, ultrasonic power, wire material and bonding frequency. Today, process design, development, and optimization is most likely based on the knowledge of process engineers and is mainly performed by experimental testing. In this contribution, a newly developed simulation tool is presented, to reduce time and costs and efficiently determine optimized process parameter. Based on a co-simulation of MATLAB and ANSYS, the different physical phenomena of the wire bonding process are considered using finite element simulation for the complex plastic deformation of the wire and reduced order models for the transient dynamics of the transducer, wire, substrate and bond formation. The model parameters such as the coefficients of friction between bond tool and wire and between wire and substrate were determined for aluminium and copper wire in experiments with a test rig specially developed for the requirements of heavy wire bonding. To reduce simulation time, for the finite element simulation a restart analysis and high performance computing is utilized. Detailed analysis of the bond formation showed, that the normal pressure distribution in the contact between wire and substrate has high impact on bond formation and distribution of welded areas in the contact area.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Microelectronics Reliability","doi":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.microrel.2021.114077","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"intvolume":" 119","date_updated":"2023-09-21T14:15:33Z","publication_status":"published","author":[{"id":"28647","full_name":"Schemmel, Reinhard","last_name":"Schemmel","first_name":"Reinhard"},{"last_name":"Krieger","first_name":"Viktor","full_name":"Krieger, Viktor"},{"id":"210","last_name":"Hemsel","first_name":"Tobias","full_name":"Hemsel, Tobias"},{"first_name":"Walter","last_name":"Sextro","full_name":"Sextro, Walter","id":"21220"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0026-2714"]},"title":"Co-simulation of MATLAB and ANSYS for ultrasonic wire bonding process optimization","year":"2021"},{"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Ramaswami, Arjun, et al. “Evaluating the Design Space for Offloading 3D FFT Calculations to an FPGA for High-Performance Computing.” <i>Applied Reconfigurable Computing. In a production line, the quality of a clinch point is primarily controlled by measurement of dimensions, which are accessible from outside. However, methods such as visual testing and measuring the bottom thickness as well as the outer diameter are not able to deliver any information about the most significant geometrical characteristic of the clinch point, neck thickness and undercut. Furthermore, ex-situ destructive methods such as microsectioning cannot detect elastic deformations and cracks that close after unloading. In order to exceed the current limits, a new non-destructive in-situ testing method for the clinching process is necessary. This work proposes a concept to characterize clinch points in-situ by combining two complementary non-destructive methods, namely, computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonic testing. Firstly, clinch points with different geometrical characteristics are analysed experimentally using ex-situ CT to get a highly spatially resolved 3D-image of the object. In this context, highly X-ray attenuating materials enhancing the visibility of the sheet-sheet interface are investigated. Secondly, the test specimens are modelled using finite element method (FEM) and a transient dynamic analysis (TDA) is conducted to study the effect of the geometrical differences on the deformation energy and to qualify the TDA as a fast in-situ non-destructive method for characterizing clinch points at high temporal resolution.
","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.89","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1662-9795"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Köhler, Daniel","last_name":"Köhler","first_name":"Daniel"},{"full_name":"Sadeghian, Behdad","first_name":"Behdad","last_name":"Sadeghian"},{"first_name":"Robert","last_name":"Kupfer","full_name":"Kupfer, Robert"},{"full_name":"Troschitz, Juliane","last_name":"Troschitz","first_name":"Juliane"},{"first_name":"Maik","last_name":"Gude","full_name":"Gude, Maik"},{"full_name":"Brosius, Alexander","last_name":"Brosius","first_name":"Alexander"}],"title":"A Method for Characterization of Geometric Deviations in Clinch Points with Computed Tomography and Transient Dynamic Analysis","year":"2021","intvolume":" 883","date_updated":"2025-06-02T20:19:57Z","publication_status":"published","citation":{"chicago":"Köhler, Daniel, Behdad Sadeghian, Robert Kupfer, Juliane Troschitz, Maik Gude, and Alexander Brosius. “A Method for Characterization of Geometric Deviations in Clinch Points with Computed Tomography and Transient Dynamic Analysis.” <i>Key Engineering Materials</i> 883 (2021): 89–96. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.89\">https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/kem.883.89</a>.","short":"D. This paper presents a novel method based on limited\r\ndata from sensors positioned at specific locations and guarantees a general accordance of reality and\r\nsimulation in terms of multimodal road traffic counts and vehicle speeds. In these considerations, the actual\r\npurpose of research is of particular importance. Here, the research aims at improving the traffic flow by\r\ncontrolling the Traffic Light Systems (TLS) of the examined area which is why the current traffic state and\r\nthe route choices of individual road users are the matter of interest. In this work, we present a systematic study of epitaxially grown GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs site-controlled pyramidal QDs possessing unrivaled excitonic uniformity in comparison to their InGaAs counterparts or GaAs QDs fabricated by other techniques. We have experimentally and systematically investigated the binding energy of biexcitons, highlighting the importance of the uniformity of all excitonic lines, rather than concentrating solely on the uniformity of the neutral exciton as a typical figure of merit, as it is normally done in the literature. We present optical signatures of GaAs QDs within a range of ∼250 meV with a remarkable uniformity within each individual sample, the ability to excite the biexciton state resonantly, and a systematic study of the fine-structure splitting (FSS) values—features important for polarization entangled photon emission. This holds in particular for cost-based federation\r\nengines, which make use of cardinality estimations to achieve this goal. A number of studies compare SPARQL federation engines across different performance metrics, including query runtime, result set completeness and correctness, number of sources selected and number of requests sent. Albeit informative, these metrics are generic and unable to quantify and evaluate the accuracy of the cardinality estimators of cost-based federation engines. To thoroughly evaluate cost-based federation engines, the effect of estimated cardinality errors on the overall query runtime performance must be measured. In this paper, we address this challenge by presenting novel evaluation metrics targeted at a fine-grained benchmarking of cost-based federated SPARQL query engines. We evaluate five cost-based federated SPARQL query engines using existing as well as novel evaluation metrics by using LargeRDFBench queries. Our results provide a detailed analysis of the experimental outcomes that reveal novel insights, useful for the development of future cost-based federated SPARQL query processing engines."}]},{"publication":"2021 58th ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference (DAC)","citation":{"mla":"Hakert, Christian, et al. “BLOwing Trees to the Ground: Layout Optimization of Decision Trees on Racetrack Memory.” <i>2021 58th ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference (DAC)</i>, IEEE, 2021, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1109/dac18074.2021.9586167\">10.1109/dac18074.2021.9586167</a>.","ama":"Hakert C, Khan AA, Chen K-H, Hameed F, Castrillon J, Chen J-J. Hence, hyper-parameter tuning is often indispensable. Normally such tuning requires the dedicated machine learning model to be trained and evaluated on centralized data to obtain a performance estimate. However, in a distributed machine learning scenario, it is not always possible to collect all the data from all nodes due to privacy concerns or storage limitations. Moreover, if data has to be transferred through low bandwidth connections it reduces the time available for tuning. Model-Based Optimization (MBO) is one state-of-the-art method for tuning hyper-parameters but the application on distributed machine learning models or federated learning lacks research. This work proposes a framework$$\\textit{MODES}$$MODESthat allows to deploy MBO on resource-constrained distributed embedded systems. This results in a high demand for\r\ncomprehensive testing of new control concepts during their development phase\r\nand comparisons with the state of the art in order to ensure their feasibility.\r\nThis applies in particular to data-driven control approaches from the field of\r\nreinforcement learning (RL), whose stability and operating behavior can hardly\r\nbe evaluated a priori. Therefore, the OpenModelica Microgrid Gym (OMG) package,\r\nan open-source software toolbox for the simulation and control optimization of\r\nMSGs, is proposed. While this is possible with atomic 3D objects, there is is still a lack in the runtime configuration of 3D object compositions based on user needs and environmental constraints. For this, we previously developed an approach for model-based AR-assisted product configuration based on the concept of Dynamic Software Product Lines. In this demonstration paper, we present the corresponding tool support ProConAR in the form of a Product Modeler and a Product Configurator. While the Product Modeler is an Angular web app that splits products (e.g. table) up into atomic parts (e.g. tabletop, table legs, funnier) and saves it within a configuration model, the Product Configurator is an Android client that uses the configuration model to place different product configurations within the environment of the customer. We show technical details of our ready to use tool-chain ProConAR by describing its implementation and usage as well as pointing out future research directions.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2020-09-21T17:01:11Z","file":[{"creator":"sego","date_created":"2020-11-30T08:39:18Z","relation":"main_file","date_updated":"2020-11-30T08:39:18Z","file_name":"HCSE20_demo.pdf","access_level":"open_access","file_size":3913885,"file_id":"20542","content_type":"application/pdf"}],"department":[{"_id":"66"},{"_id":"534"}],"keyword":["Product Configuration","Augmented Reality","Model-based","Tool Support"],"type":"conference","author":[{"id":"47208","first_name":"Sebastian","last_name":"Gottschalk","full_name":"Gottschalk, Sebastian"},{"first_name":"Enes","last_name":"Yigitbas","orcid":"0000-0002-5967-833X","full_name":"Yigitbas, Enes","id":"8447"},{"full_name":"Schmidt, Eugen","last_name":"Schmidt","first_name":"Eugen"},{"first_name":"Gregor","last_name":"Engels","full_name":"Engels, Gregor","id":"107"}],"title":"ProConAR: A Tool Support for Model-based AR Product Configuration","year":"2020","intvolume":" 12481","date_updated":"2022-01-06T06:54:07Z","series_title":"Lecture Notes in Computer Science","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-030-64266-2_14"},{"date_updated":"2022-01-06T06:54:20Z","year":"2020","status":"public","title":"Reinforcement Learning for Virtual Network Embedding in Wireless Sensor Networks","author":[{"last_name":"Afifi","first_name":"Haitham","full_name":"Afifi, Haitham","id":"65718"},{"id":"126","first_name":"Holger","last_name":"Karl","full_name":"Karl, Holger"}],"user_id":"65718","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"20164","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Upcoming sensing applications (acoustic or video) will have high processing requirements not satisfiable by a single node or need input from multiple sources (e.g., speaker localization). Offloading these applications to cloud or mobile edge is an option, but when running in a wireless senor network (WSN), it might entail needlessly high data rate and latency. An alternative is to spread processing inside the WSN, which is particularly attractive if the application comprises individual components. This scenario is typical for applications like acoustic signal processing. Mapping components to nodes can be formulated as wireless version of the NP-hard Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) problem, for which various heuristics exist. We propose a Reinforcement Learning (RL) framework, which relies on Q-Learning and uses either Greedy Epsilon or Epsilon Decay for exploration. We compare both exploration methods to the result of an optimization approach and show empirically that the RL framework achieves good results in terms of network delay within few number of steps."}],"project":[{"name":"Akustische Sensornetzwerke - Teilprojekt \"Verteilte akustische Signalverarbeitung über funkbasierte Sensornetzwerke","_id":"27"}],"publication":"2020 Thirteenth International Workshop on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Computing (STWiMob'2020)","citation":{"ama":"Afifi H, Karl H. Herein, we study the effective nonlinear dielectric response of a stochastic paraelectric-dielectric composite consisting of equilibrium distributions of circular and partially penetrable disks (or parallel, infinitely long, identical, partially penetrable, circular cylinders) of a dielectric phase randomly dispersed in a continuous matrix of a paraelectric phase. The random microstructures were generated using the Metropolis Monte Carlo algorithm. The evaluation of the effective permittivity and tunability were carried out by employing either a Landau thermodynamic model or its Johnson’s approximation to describe the field-dependent permittivity of the paraelectric phase and solving continuum-electrostatics equations using finite element calculations. We reveal that the percolation threshold in this composite governs the critical behavior of the effective permittivity and tunability. For microstructures below the percolation threshold, our simulations demonstrate a strong nonlinear behaviour of the field-dependent effective permittivity and very high tunability that increases as a function of dielectric phase concentration. Above the percolation threshold, the effective permittivity shows the tendency to linearization and the tunability dramatically drops down. The highly reduced permittivity and extraordinarily high tunability are obtained for the composites with dielectric impenetrable disks at high concentrations, in which the triggering of the percolation transition is avoided. The reported results cast light on distinct nonlinear behaviour of 2D and 3D stochastic composites and can guide the design of novel composites with the controlled morphology and tailored permittivity and tunability."}],"publication":"Acta Materialia","volume":203,"user_id":"158","ddc":["530"],"_id":"20233","page":"116432","has_accepted_license":"1","status":"public","oa":"1","project":[{"name":"Computing Resources Provided by the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing","_id":"52"}],"citation":{"chicago":"Myroshnychenko, Viktor, Stanislav Smirnov, Pious Mathews Mulavarickal Jose, Christian Brosseau, and Jens Förstner. “Nonlinear Dielectric Properties of Random Paraelectric-Dielectric Composites.” <i>Acta Materialia</i> 203 (2020): 116432. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.actamat.2020.10.051\">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.actamat.2020.10.051</a>.","short":"V.
