The goal is to minimize the tour length traveled by a single delivery vehicle while simultaneously keeping the number of dismissed dynamic customers to a minimum. We propose a dynamic Evolutionary Multi-Objective Algorithm which is grounded on insights gained from a previous series of work on an a-posteriori version of the problem, where all request times are known in advance. In our experiments, we simulate different decision maker strategies and evaluate the development of the Pareto-front approximations on exemplary problem instances. It turns out, that despite severely reduced computational budget and no oracle-knowledge of request times the dynamic EMOA is capable of producing approximations which partially dominate the results of the a-posteriori EMOA and dynamic integer linear programming strategies.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Evolutionary Multi-Criterion Optimization (EMO)"},{"editor":[{"last_name":"Battiti","first_name":"R","full_name":"Battiti, R"},{"full_name":"Brunato, M","last_name":"Brunato","first_name":"M"},{"full_name":"Kotsireas, I","last_name":"Kotsireas","first_name":"I"},{"first_name":"P","last_name":"Pardalos","full_name":"Pardalos, P"}],"volume":11353,"user_id":"15504","_id":"46337","publisher":"Springer","page":"215–219","status":"public","place":"Cham","citation":{"apa":"Bossek, J., &#38; Trautmann, H. Dabei eignen sich AR-Anwendungen sowohl für den Einsatz in formellen, als auch informellen Lernumgebungen und Bildungsinstitutionen, beginnend mit Kunstkursen in Vorschulen über Biologie, Geschichte, Chemie, Physik etc. in weiterführenden Schulen und Universitäten [1]. There have been numerous studies highlighting the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) in different educational settings and its impacts on learners in terms of increased motivation, learning, focus, and more. AR applications are suitable for use in formal as well as informal learning environments and educational institutions, starting with art courses in pre-schools or biology, history, chemistry, physics etc. in secondary schools and universities. Despite the increasing number of studies, only a few AR applications are based on a suitable didactic principle. In addition, there is a lack of general studies investigating the learning-promoting characteristics of AR in the field of preparation and conduction of laboratory trainings. Current studies merely extend printed learning content with additional links, videos, or static 3D models or require special prerequisites for using the AR application.\r\nTherefore, this article examines and focuses on a design concept for a mobile-based AR application (App) for acquiring and deepening practical skills in handling laboratory equipment and components. In a previous work, the possibilities and limitations of AR technology in engineering education, with a particular focus on laboratory work, were investigated in order to avoid frequent design mistakes. The didactic concept in this project is based on the constructive alignment according to Biggs with the definition of the three compulsory steps: learning objectives (or intended learning outcome), teaching / learning activities and assessments. The learning objectives were further concretized in the next step, based on the revised Bloom taxonomy according to Anderson and Krathwohl to derive and design possible teaching scenarios in AR. Therefore, the entire process must be considered in order to produce high-quality AM metal parts. In this case study, a conventional part was selected to be optimized for AM. The process presented includes component selection, design improvement with a novel approach for topology optimization based on the AMendate algorithm as basis of MSC Apex Generative Design, component production on a SLM 250 HL and post-processing including heat treatment and surface smoothing. With the topology optimization a weight reduction of ~60 % could be realized, whereby the stress distribution is more homogeneous. These chains assemble via π–π stacking between the aromatic units to form a three-dimensional grid-like network with channel pores filled with water molecules. The material was structurally characterized by single-crystal XRD analysis, and its water and thermal stability was investigated. The proton conductivity was studied by impedance measurements on needle-like single crystals. A simple but efficient measurement setup consisting of interdigital electrodes was used. The influence of the crystal orientation, temperature, and humidity was investigated. The iron(II)-MOF showed the highest proton conductivity of 3.3·10–3 S cm–1 at 22 °C and 94% relative humidity. Contrary to most known structures, the conductivity in this material is controlled by chemical properties of the pore system rather than by grain boundaries. The presented material is the starting point for further tailoring the proton-conducting properties, independent of morphological features which could find potential applications as membrane materials in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells."}],"date_created":"2021-10-08T10:46:06Z","department":[{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"2"},{"_id":"307"}],"type":"journal_article"},{"citation":{"mla":"Meier, Torsten, et al. “Subcycle Wannier-Stark Localization by Mid-Infrared Bias in Gallium Arsenide.” <i>XXI International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena 2018 (UP 2018)</i>, vol. 205, 05001, EDP Sciences, 2019, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1051/epjconf/201920505001\">10.1051/epjconf/201920505001</a>.","ama":"Meier T, Bühler J, Schmidt C, et al. This results in significant advantages over conventional manufacturing methodologies, such as the production of topologically optimized, complex structures, lower material consumption or shorter product development cycles. In order to be able to use these advantages, the possibilities and restrictions of the processes must be known. In particular, selective laser beam melting (SLM), in which a powdery metallic starting material is melted by means of a laser, requires a sound understanding of the process. For this purpose, design guidelines have been presented in various scientific papers. These design guidelines help to design a component in such a way that it can be manufactured successfully using additive manufacturing. These so-called “AMsuitable design guidelines” can be found among others at Adam, Kranz and Thomas [2,3,4,5]. In contrast to established manufacturing processes, the post-processing of additive components is divided into two steps. First, the AM immanent post processing, such as the removing of the component from the building platform or the removing of the remaining powder. These post-processing steps are in the following referred to “post-processing”. Secondly, the subsequent post-processing steps to improve the component properties, such as milling and turning or a stress-relief annealing. These are referred to as “finishing” and form the focus of this paper. With regard to a successful finishing of additively manufactured components, design guidelines must be taken into account that consider the finishing inherent restrictions and possibilities. In the following, these design guidelines are referred to “finishing suitable”. They can deviate significantly from those of conventionally manufactured components in the case of additively manufactured components. Although there are some investigations that deal with the post-processing of additively manufactured components [6,7], there are hardly any design guidelines that are suitable for finishing [8]. Therefore, knowledge about the finishing of additively manufactured components is based on experimental experience rather than on scientific knowledge. For this reason, design guidelines for a finishing suitable design must be methodically determined and quantified. These quantified design guidelines can be used for an automated design check on complex components like topology optimized geometries."}],"quality_controlled":"1"},{"doi":"10.4028/www.scientific.net/msf.949.85","user_id":"43720","page":"85-92","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"23907","date_updated":"2023-06-01T14:28:28Z","publication_status":"published","year":"2019","status":"public","title":"Flexible Hot Rolling of Extruded Shapes of Aluminum Alloy EN AW-6082","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1662-9752"]},"author":[{"first_name":"Olexandr","last_name":"Grydin","full_name":"Grydin, Olexandr","id":"43822"},{"first_name":"Nikolay","last_name":"Sotirov","full_name":"Sotirov, Nikolay"},{"last_name":"Samsonenko","first_name":"Andrii","full_name":"Samsonenko, Andrii"},{"last_name":"Biba","first_name":"Nikolay","full_name":"Biba, Nikolay"},{"id":"50215","full_name":"Andreiev, Anatolii","last_name":"Andreiev","first_name":"Anatolii"},{"last_name":"Stolbchenko","first_name":"Mykhailo","full_name":"Stolbchenko, Mykhailo"},{"first_name":"Teresa","last_name":"Behr","full_name":"Behr, Teresa"},{"full_name":"Frolov, Iaroslav","first_name":"Iaroslav","last_name":"Frolov"},{"id":"43720","full_name":"Schaper, Mirko","last_name":"Schaper","first_name":"Mirko"}],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"158"},{"_id":"321"}],"date_created":"2021-09-08T07:31:34Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"
One of the strategies employed to lower weight and to decrease material consumption is reducing part thickness itself. Thus, functionally graded materials in which structural reinforcement is adjusted locally, are of great interest. With regard to conventional industrial processes, such as extrusion or flexible cold rolling, thickness variations can only be achieved either longitudinally or through the cross-section of the semi-finished products. Hence, a combined thickness variation (along both axes) is difficult to generate solely by extrusion or rolling. A simultaneous thickness variation in both directions, however, would enable further weight savings in structural components such as car body parts. In this study, a promising approach with extruded shapes, serving as a billet for a flexible hot rolling process, is elaborated upon. By employing the described process modification, shapes with simultaneous thickness variations in longitudinal as well as in transverse direction are feasible. Initial numerical analysis reveals the weight-saving potential of using these semi-finished products for structural parts in a car body. A demonstration of the production process for the semi-finished parts and the occurring challenges are discussed. To verify and adjust the new technology, a numerical model of the flexible hot rolling process has been created based on the finite element software QForm VX. This model is also employed for tool design optimization to produce semi-finished components with the required geometrical quality. Finally, the results of hot rolling experiments conducted using the adjusted roll design are presented.
"}],"quality_controlled":"1","publication":"Materials Science Forum","citation":{"mla":"Grydin, Olexandr, et al. “Flexible Hot Rolling of Extruded Shapes of Aluminum Alloy EN AW-6082.” <i>Materials Science Forum</i>, 2019, pp. 85–92, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/msf.949.85\">10.4028/www.scientific.net/msf.949.85</a>.","ama":"Grydin O, Sotirov N, Samsonenko A, et al. However, the lightweight potential of common materials like steel, aluminum or even fiber-reinforcement plastics (FRP) is limited. In keeping with the motto “the best material for the best application”, a new approach for a top-down material design is introduced. With the aim to develop an application tailored material, the multi-material concept is adapted for the thickness dimension of the component. Within this contribution a new optimization- based design methodology is applied on a stiffness relevant car body part. Starting with benchmark simulations of a reference BIW structure, a critical car body component is determined by an internal energy based method and a subsequent sensitivity analysis. The identified demonstrator component is later subdivided into multiple layers and submitted to a first optimization loop in which the developed methodology varies the material parameters for each single layer. Once an optimum for the through-thickness properties of the part is found, further optimization loops with concrete material pendants and manufacturing restrictions are carried out. The result is a hybrid laminate part consisting of steel and FRP plies. To achieve a further improvement in body characteristics and lightweight, the investigated part is redesigned by the aim of topology optimization. Finally, the tailored hybrid stacks are validated in BIW simulations and compared with the reference. The optimization-based approach allows a weight reduction up to 25 % while maintaining or even improving the BIW properties.","lang":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","place":"Berlin, Heidelberg","date_created":"2025-05-19T06:54:59Z","type":"book_chapter","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"149"},{"_id":"321"}]},{"project":[{"name":"Computing Resources Provided by the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing","_id":"52"}],"citation":{"apa":"Camberg, A. This term refers to parametrization approaches which, while using an atlas of charts to enable the handling of surfaces of arbitrary topology, relate the parametrization across the cuts between charts via transition functions from special classes of transformations. This effectively makes the cuts invisible to applications which are invariant to these specific transformations in some sense. In actual implementations of these parametrization approaches, however, these restrictions are obeyed only approximately; errors stem from the tolerances of numerical solvers employed and, ultimately, from the limited accuracy of floating point arithmetic. In practice, robustness issues arise from these flaws in the seamlessness of a parametrization, no matter how small. We present a robust global algorithm that turns a given approximately seamless parametrization into an exactly seamless one ‐ that still is representable by standard floating point numbers. It supports common practically relevant additional constraints regarding boundary and feature curve alignment or isocurve connectivity, and ensures that these are likewise fulfilled exactly. This allows subsequent algorithms to operate robustly on the resulting truly seamless parametrization. We believe that the core of our method will furthermore be of benefit in a broader range of applications involving linearly constrained numerical optimization.
","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2025-06-26T07:35:31Z","department":[{"_id":"969"}],"type":"journal_article","author":[{"full_name":"Mandad, Manish","first_name":"Manish","last_name":"Mandad"},{"full_name":"Campen, Marcel","orcid":"0000-0003-2340-3462","last_name":"Campen","first_name":"Marcel","id":"114904"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0167-7055","1467-8659"]},"title":"Exact Constraint Satisfaction for Truly Seamless Parametrization","year":"2019","intvolume":" 38","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2025-07-14T12:44:26Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1111/cgf.13625","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Mandad_Campen_2019, title={Exact Constraint Satisfaction for Truly Seamless Parametrization}, volume={38}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1111/cgf.13625\">10.1111/cgf.13625</a>}, number={2}, journal={Computer Graphics Forum}, publisher={Wiley}, author={Mandad, Manish and Campen, Marcel}, year={2019}, pages={135–145} }","ama":"Mandad M, Campen M. We address the more general problem of mapping\r\n between\r\n surfaces. In particular, we provide a formulation that yields a map between two disk-topology meshes, which is continuous and injective by construction and which locally minimizes intrinsic distortion. A common approach is to express such a map as the composition of two maps via a simple intermediate domain such as the plane, and to independently optimize the individual maps. However, even if both individual maps are of minimal distortion, there is potentially high distortion in the composed map. In contrast to many previous works, we minimize distortion in an end-to-end manner, directly optimizing the quality of the composed map. This setting poses additional challenges due to the discrete nature of both the source and the target domain. We propose a formulation that, despite the combinatorial aspects of the problem, allows for a purely continuous optimization. Further, our approach addresses the non-smooth nature of discrete distortion measures in this context which hinders straightforward application of off-the-shelf optimization techniques. We demonstrate that, despite the challenges inherent to the more involved setting, discrete surface-to-surface maps can be optimized effectively.\r\n
"}],"extern":"1","publication":"ACM Transactions on Graphics","issue":"6","user_id":"117512","volume":38,"page":"1-15","_id":"60390","publisher":"Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)","status":"public","citation":{"mla":"Schmidt, Patrick, et al. “Distortion-Minimizing Injective Maps between Surfaces.” <i>ACM Transactions on Graphics</i>, vol. 38, no. 6, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2019, pp. 1–15, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1145/3355089.3356519\">10.1145/3355089.3356519</a>.","apa":"Schmidt, P., Born, J., Campen, M., &#38; Kobbelt, L. The government reacts by altering the law, and by conducting audits, respectively. These phenomena are modeled as a strategic interaction between all taxpayers: the more taxpayers optimize, the lower the optimization result as a consequence of the government tightening the tax law. The more taxpayers evade, the higher the risk of detection because of the tax agencies increasing the audit probability. It emerges that, in equilibrium, the population shares of optimizers and evaders are not interdependent; rather, they both increase to the detriment of the share of non-optimizing taxpayers. If the government reacts to changed optimization behavior with too large a delay, an equilibrium tax law cannot be reached. Tax codes should be updated rapidly in order to avoid a permanent change of the tax law, which is costly both for the legislator and the taxpayers facing legal uncertainty."}],"page":"581-609","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00191-018-0572-6"}],"_id":"21424","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"96670","doi":"10.1007/s00191-018-0572-6","volume":29,"year":"2019","title":"Population Dynamics of Tax Avoidance with Crowding Effects","status":"public","author":[{"full_name":"Lorenz, Johannes","first_name":"Johannes","last_name":"Lorenz"}],"date_updated":"2026-04-09T08:55:10Z","intvolume":" 29"}]
