text: There is a continuous increase of bandwidth-demanding services such as ultra
HDTV, 3D TV, etc. which will require data rates up to 100-400 Gb/s for short range
wireless communication. This paper introduces a novel mixed-mode design where
both analog and digital domain design is considered, which helps in the reduction
of power consumption. Parallel Sequence Spread Spectrum (PSSS) is used for physical
layer (PHY) baseband technology, which considerably alleviates both transmitter
    and receiver design.

text: Additive production techniques have the advantage of manufacturing parts without
needing a forming tool. One of the most used additive manufacturing processes
is "Fused Deposition Modeling" (FDM) which allows the production of prototypes
and end-use parts. Due to the manufacture layer by layer, also complex part geometries
can be created in one working step. Furthermore, lightweight parts with specific
inner core structures can be manufactured in order to achieve good weightrelated
strength properties. In this paper the mechanical behavior of lightweight parts
manufactured with the 3D production system Fortus 400mc from Stratasys and the
material Polyetherimide (PEI) with the trade name Ultem*9085 is analyzed. The
test specimens were built up with different inner structures and building directions.
Therefore, test specimens with known lightweight core geometries (e.g. corrugated
and honeycomb cores) were designed. A four-point bending test was conducted to
analyze the strength properties as well as the weight-related strength properties.
Additionally the influence of the structure width, the structure wall thickness
and the top layer thickness was analyzed using a honeycomb structure.

text: Exploratory Landscape Analysis is an effective and sophisticated approach
to characterize the properties of continuous optimization problems. The overall
aim is to exploit this knowledge to give recommendations of the individually best
suited algorithm for unseen optimization problems. Recent research revealed a
high potential of this methodology in this respect based on a set of well-defined,
computable features which only requires a quite small sample of function evaluations.
In this paper, new features based on the cell mapping concept are introduced and
shown to improve the existing feature set in terms of predicting expert-designed
high-level properties, such as the degree of multimodality or the global structure,
for 2-dimensional single objective optimization problems.

text: The incorporation of expert knowledge into multiobjective optimization is
an important issue which in this paper is reflected in terms of an aspiration
set consisting of multiple reference points. The behaviour of the recently introduced
evolutionary multiobjective algorithm AS-EMOA is analysed in detail and comparatively
studied for bi-objective optimization problems w.r.t. R-NSGA2 and a respective
variant. It will be shown that the averaged Hausdorff distance, integrated into
AS-EMOA, is an efficient means to accurately approximate the desired aspiration
    set.

text: Multimodal optimization requires maintenance of a good search space coverage
and approximation of several optima at the same time. We analyze two constitutive
optimization algorithms and show that in many cases, a phase transition occurs
at some point, so that either diversity collapses or optimization stagnates. But
how to derive suitable stopping criteria for multimodal optimization? Experimental
results indicate that an algorithm’s population contains sufficient information
to estimate the point in time when several performance indicators reach their
optimum. Thus, stopping criteria are formulated based on summary characteristics
employing objective values and mutation strength.

text: Proteolytic activation is a unique feature of the epithelial sodium channel
(ENaC). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms and the physiologically relevant
proteases remain to be identified. The serine protease trypsin I can activate
ENaC in vitro but is unlikely to be the physiologically relevant activating protease
in ENaC-expressing tissues in vivo. Herein, we investigated whether human trypsin
IV, a form of trypsin that is co-expressed in several extrapancreatic epithelial
cells with ENaC, can activate human ENaC. In Xenopus laevis oocytes, we monitored
proteolytic activation of ENaC currents and the appearance of $\gamma$ENaC cleavage
products at the cell surface. We demonstrated that trypsin IV and trypsin I can
stimulate ENaC heterologously expressed in oocytes. ENaC cleavage and activation
by trypsin IV but not by trypsin I required a critical cleavage site (Lys-189)
in the extracellular domain of the $\gamma$-subunit. In contrast, channel activation
by trypsin I was prevented by mutating three putative cleavage sites (Lys-168,
Lys-170, and Arg-172) in addition to mutating previously described prostasin (RKRK(178)),
plasmin (Lys-189), and neutrophil elastase (Val-182 and Val-193) sites. Moreover,
we found that trypsin IV is expressed in human renal epithelial cells and can
increase ENaC-mediated sodium transport in cultured human airway epithelial cells.
Thus, trypsin IV may regulate ENaC function in epithelial tissues. Our results
show, for the first time, that trypsin IV can stimulate ENaC and that trypsin
IV and trypsin I activate ENaC by cleavage at distinct sites. The presence of
distinct cleavage sites may be important for ENaC regulation by tissue-specific
    proteases.

text: 'Complex-valued signals occur in many areas of science and engineering and
are thus of fundamental interest. When developing signal processing methods in
the complex domain, there are two key issues: making use of the full statistical
information and optimization. In this article, we review the necessary tools to
address these two key issues and provide examples in filtering and blind source
separation (BSS) that utilize these tools.'

text: We show, by means of numerical and analytical methods, that media with a repulsive
nonlinearity which grows from the center to the periphery support a remarkable
variety of previously unknown complex stationary and dynamical three-dimensional
(3D) solitary-wave states. Peanut-shaped modulation profiles give rise to vertically
symmetric and antisymmetric vortex states, and novel stationary hybrid states,
built of top and bottom vortices with opposite topological charges, as well as
robust dynamical hybrids, which feature stable precession of a vortex on top of
a zero-vorticity soliton. The analysis reveals stability regions for symmetric,
antisymmetric, and hybrid states. In addition, bead-shaped modulation profiles
give rise to the first example of exact analytical solutions for stable 3D vortex
solitons. The predicted states may be realized in media with a controllable cubic
    nonlinearity, such as Bose–Einstein condensates.

text: The dynamics of 3D Airy-vortex wave packets is studied under the action of
strong self-focusing Kerr nonlinearity. Emissions of nonlinear 3D waves out of
the main wave packets with the topological charges were demonstrated. Because
of the conservation of the total angular momentum, charges of the emitted waves
are equal to those carried by the parental light structure. The rapid collapse
imposes a severe limitation on the propagation of multidimensional waves in Kerr
media. However, the structure of the Airy beam carrier allows the coupling of
light from the leading, most intense peak into neighboring peaks and consequently
strongly postpones the collapse. The dependence of the critical input amplitude
for the appearance of a fast collapse on the beam width is studied for wave packets
with zero and nonzero topological charges. Wave packets carrying angular momentum
are found to be much more resistant to the rapid collapse.

text: "Optical and infrared antennas provide a promising way to couple photons in
and out of nanoscale structures. As\r\ncounterpart to conventional radio antennas,
they are able to increase optical felds in sub-wavelength volumes,\r\nto enhance
excitation and emission of quantum emitters or to direct light, radiated by quantum
emitters. The\r\ndirected emission of these antennas has been mainly pursued by
surface plasmon based devices, e.g. Yagi-Uda\r\nlike antennas, which are rather
complicated due to the coupling of several metallic particles. Also, like all
metallic\r\nstructures in optical or infrared regime, these devices are very sensitive
to fabrication tolerances and are affected\r\nby strong losses. It has been shown
recently, that such directed emission can be accomplished by dielectric\r\nmaterials
as well.\r\nIn this paper we present an optimization of nanoscopic antennas in
the near infrared regime starting from a\r\nmetallic Yagi-Uda structure. The optimization
is done via a particle-swarm algorithm, using full time domain\r\nfinite integration
simulations to obtain the characteristics of the investigated structure, also
taking into account\r\nsubstrates. Furthermore we present a dielectric antenna,
which performs even better, due to the lack of losses\r\nby an appropriate choice
of the dielectric material. These antennas are robust concerning fabrication tolerances\r\nand
can be realized with different materials for both the antenna and the substrate,
    without using high index\r\nmaterials."

text: In the last couple of years the amount of structured open government data
has increased significantly. Already now, citizens are able to leverage the advantages
of open data through increased transparency and better opportunities to take part
in governmental decision making processes. Our approach increases the interoperability
of existing but distributed open governmental datasets by converting them to the
RDF-based NLP Interchange Format (NIF). Furthermore, we integrate the converted
data into a geodata store and present a user interface for querying this data
via a keyword-based search. The language resource generated in this project is
publicly available for download and via a dedicated SPARQL endpoint.

text: Stereo-matching algorithms recently received a lot of attention from the FPGA
acceleration community. Presented solutions range from simple, very resource efficient
systems with modest matching quality for small embedded systems to sophisticated
algorithms with several processing steps, implemented on big FPGAs. In order to
achieve high throughput, most implementations strongly focus on pipelining and
data reuse between different computation steps. This approach leads to high efficiency,
but limits the supported computation patterns and due the high integration of
the implementation, adaptions to the algorithm are difficult. In this work, we
present a stereo-matching implementation, that starts by offloading individual
kernels from the CPU to the FPGA. Between subsequent compute steps on the FPGA,
data is stored off-chip in on-board memory of the FPGA accelerator card. This
enables us to accelerate the AD-census algorithm with cross-based aggregation
and scanline optimization for the first time without algorithmic changes and for
up to full HD image dimensions. Analyzing throughput and bandwidth requirements,
we outline some trade-offs that are involved with this approach, compared to tighter
integration of more kernel loops into one design.
