text: In this paper we propose a novel adaptation algorithm for Filter-and-Sum beamforming
in spatially correlated noise. Deterministic and stochastic gradient ascent algorithms
are derived from a constrained optimization problem, which iteratively estimate
the principal eigenvecto r of a generalized eigenvalue problem. The method does
not require an explicit estimation of the speaker location. It is shown that the
well-known Delay-and-Sum beamformer and the previously introduced Filter-and-Sum
beamformer in spatially white noise are obtained as special cases. Further, bounds
on the maximally achievable SNR gains are derived and it is shown that the proposed
adaptation algorithm is able to approach these performance bounds.

text: For human-machine interfaces in distant-talking environments multichannel
signal processing is often employed to obtain an enhanced signal for subsequent
processing. In this paper we propose a novel adaptation algorithm for a filter-and-sum
beamformer to adjust the coefficients of FIR filters to changing acoustic room
impulses, e.g. due to speaker movement. A deterministic and a stochastic gradient
ascent algorithm are derived from a constrained optimization problem, which iteratively
estimates the eigenvector corresponding to the largest eigenvalue of the cross
power spectral density of the microphone signals. The method does not require
an explicit estimation of the speaker location. The experimental results show
fast adaptation and excellent robustness of the proposed algorithm.

text: The role of glomerular endothelial cells in kidney fibrosis remains incompletely
understood. While endothelia are indispensable for repair of acute damage, they
can produce extracellular matrix proteins and profibrogenic cytokines that promote
fibrogenesis. We used a murine cell line with all features of glomerular endothelial
cells (glEND.2), which dissected the effects of vascular endothelial growth factor
(VEGF) on cell migration, proliferation, and profibrogenic cytokine production.
VEGF dose-dependently induced glEND.2 cell migration and proliferation, accompanied
by up-regulation of VEGFR-2 phosphorylation and mRNA expression. VEGF induced
a profibrogenic gene expression profile, including up-regulation of TGF-beta1
mRNA, enhanced TGF-beta1 secretion, and bioactivity. VEGF-induced endothelial
cell migration and TGF-beta1 induction were mediated by the phosphatidyl-inositol-3
kinase pathway, while proliferation was dependent on the Erk1/2 MAP kinase pathway.
This suggests that differential modulation of glomerular angiogenesis by selective
inhibition of the two identified VEGF-induced signaling pathways could be a therapeutic
approach to treat kidney fibrosis.

text: Autonomous networking has become the buzzword for attempts of building high-scalable
network architectures, which are self-organizing, self-maintaining and self-healing.
Few of these approaches were successful and none has shown to provide all the
promised functions. We try to study the processes in computer networks using molecular
processes as the paradigm. This novel approach shows many similarities between
computer networking and cellular mechanisms. In this paper, we focus on the area
of network security as one research area with high demand for high-scalable mechanisms
providing the needed functionality. After identifying similarities between nature
and technology, we discuss potential research domains, which are high potentials
for learning directly from molecular biology using the example of security threats
in communication networks. We see the proposed mechanism as a generic approach
for autonomous networking. The countermeasures against attacks in computer networks
are only a special example to introduce the mechanisms.

text: Bio-inspired communication methodologies promise to enable more scalable self-organizing
network infrastructures. Especially in the area of mobile ad hoc sensor networks,
such solutions are required in order to qualify them for simplified development
and deployment based on autonomously evolving mechanisms to work on global tasks,
i.e. to show an emergent behavior. In this paper, we introduce the ongoing research
of our Autonomic Networking group focused on the developments on efficient data
dissemination in sensor networks. A particular example of how to study biological
processes and to adapt the results in communication networks, the feedback loop
mechanism, depicts the potentials of this research area.

of Chiral Metallatetrahedron Complexes of the Type [Re2(M1PPh3)(M2PPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7C≡CPh]
(M1 = Ag, Au; M2 = Cu, Ag, Au)From
the reaction of Li[Re2(μ‐H)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7(C(Ph)O)]
(1) with Ph3AuC≡CPh both benzaldehyde
and the trinuclear complex Li[Re2(AuPPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7C≡CPh]
(2a) were obtained in high yield. The complex anion was
isolated as its PPh4‐salt 2b. The
latter reacts with coinage metal complexes PPh3M2Cl
[M2 = Cu, Ag, Au] to give chiral heterometallatetrahedranes
of the general formula [Re2(AuPPh3)(M2PPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7C≡CPh]
(M2 = Cu 3a, Ag 3b,
Au 3c). The corresponding complex [Re2(AgPPh3)2(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7C≡CPh]
(3d) is obtained from the reaction of [Re2(AgPPh3)2(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7Cl]
(4) with LiC≡CPh. 3d undergoes a
metathesis reaction in the presence of PPh3CuCl giving [Re2(AgPPh3)(CuPPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7C≡CPh]
(3e) and PPh3AgCl. Analogous metathesis
reactions are observed when 3c is reacted with PPh3AgCl
or PPh3CuCl giving 3a or 3b,
respectively. The reaction of 1 with PPh3AuCl
gives benzaldehyde and Li[Re2(AuPPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7Cl]
(5a) which upon reaction with PhLi forms the trinuclear
complex Li[Re2(AuPPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7Ph]
(6a). Again this complex was isolated as its PPh4‐salt
6b. In contrast to 2b, 6b
reacts with one equivalent of Ph3PAuCl by transmetalation
to give Ph3PAuPh and PPh4[Re2(AuPPh3)(μ‐PCy2)(CO)7Cl]
(5b). The X‐ray structures of the compounds 3a,
3b, 3e and 4
are reported.

and analysis.\r\nTypically he can move free and unguided in a virtual environment
which visualizes the entire\r\nprocess. Thus knowledge and conclusions are to
some extend acquired on a random base.\r\nThis article describes the development
of a tool, which enables the user to interactively improve\r\nsignificant production
processes in the simulation. He moves in a virtual 3D-environment\r\n(walkthrough
system) and is able to acquire automatically calculated indications for significant\r\nprocesses.
At the same time the simulation considers significant objects in a more detailed
way. If\r\nthe viewer is interested in a significant process, he is automatically
guided to the relevant location\r\nwhere he can examine the critical situation

text: In turbomachinery, friction contacts are widely used to reduce dynamic stresses
in turbine blades in order to avoid expensive damages. As a result of energy dissipation
in the friction contacts the blade vibration amplitudes are reduced. In case of
so-called friction dampers, which are pressed on the platforms of the blades by
centrifugal forces, the damping effect can be optimized by varying the damper
mass. This optimization can be done by means of a simulation model applying the
so-called component mode synthesis and the Harmonic Balance Method to reduce computation
time. It is based on the modal description of each substructure. In a real turbine
or compressor blading great differences in the magnitude of the individual blade
amplitudes occur caused by unavoidable mistuning of all system parameters like
contact parameters and natural frequencies of the blades. It may happen that most
of the blades experience only small stresses whereas a few blades experience critical
stresses. Therefore, it is necessary to consider mistuning for all system parameters
to simulate the forced response of bladed disk assemblies with friction contacts.
For a mistuned bladed disk the complete system has to be modeled to calculate
the dynamic response. In practice, usually the standard deviations instead of
the distributions of the system parameters are known. Therefore, Monte-Carlo simulations
are necessary to calculate the forced response of the blades for given mean values
and standard deviations of the system parameters. To reduce the computational
time, an approximate method has been developed and extended for small and moderate
standard deviations of the system parameters to calculate the distribution and
the envelopes of the frequency response functions for statistically varying system
parameters, in the following called statistical mistuning. The approximate method
is based on a sensitivity analysis and the assumption of a Weibull distribution
of the vibration amplitudes of the blades. Both, the approximate method and the
assumption of a Weibull distribution of the vibration amplitudes are validated
by Monte-Carlo simulations. By these investigations the influence of different
arrangements of the system parameters for given mean values and standard deviations
of the vibration amplitudes of the blades can be determined, too. For the present
investigations only a small influence of the arrangement of blades with respect
to their natural frequencies has been observed. On the other hand, an intentional
mistuning of the damper masses and the natural frequencies of the blades in a
systematic way, in the following called systematic mistuning, can be investigated
to reduce the amplitudes of the system. The simulation results of a systematic
mistuning has been validated by a test rig with a rotating bladed disk assembly
with friction dampers. The investigations show a good agreement between the simulations
and the measurements but only a slight decrease of the maximum amplitudes in case
