text: We build upon a recently proposed multi-objective view onto performance measurement
of single-objective stochastic solvers. The trade-off between the fraction of
failed runs and the mean runtime of successful runs – both to be minimized – is
directly analyzed based on a study on algorithm selection of inexact state-of-the-art
solvers for the famous Traveling Salesperson Problem (TSP). Moreover, we adopt
the hypervolume indicator (HV) commonly used in multi-objective optimization for
simultaneously assessing both conflicting objectives and investigate relations
to commonly used performance indicators, both theoretically and empirically. Next
to Penalized Average Runtime (PAR) and Penalized Quantile Runtime (PQR), the HV
measure is used as a core concept within the construction of per-instance algorithm
selection models offering interesting insights into complementary behavior of
inexact TSP solvers.

text: The Traveling-Salesperson-Problem (TSP) is arguably one of the best-known
NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. The two sophisticated heuristic solvers
LKH and EAX and respective (restart) variants manage to calculate close-to optimal
or even optimal solutions, also for large instances with several thousand nodes
in reasonable time. In this work we extend existing benchmarking studies by addressing
anytime behaviour of inexact TSP solvers based on empirical runtime distributions
leading to an increased understanding of solver behaviour and the respective relation
to problem hardness. It turns out that performance ranking of solvers is highly
dependent on the focused approximation quality. Insights on intersection points
of performances offer huge potential for the construction of hybridized solvers
depending on instance features. Moreover, instance features tailored to anytime
performance and corresponding performance indicators will highly improve automated
algorithm selection models by including comprehensive information on solver quality.

text:
Helhmoltz–Kirchhoff equations of motions of vortices of an incompressible
fluid in the plane define a dynamics with singularities and this leads to a Zermelo
navigation problem describing the ship travel in such a field where the control
is the heading angle. Considering one vortex, we define a time minimization problem
which can be analyzed with the technics of geometric optimal control combined
with numerical simulations, the geometric frame being the extension of Randers
metrics in the punctured plane, with rotational symmetry. Candidates as minimizers
are parameterized thanks to the Pontryagin Maximum Principle as extremal solutions
of a Hamiltonian vector field. We analyze the time minimal solution to transfer
the ship between two points where during the transfer the ship can be either in
a strong current region in the vicinity of the vortex or in a weak current region.
The analysis is based on a micro-local classification of the extremals using mainly
the integrability properties of the dynamics due to the rotational symmetry. The
discussion is complex and related to the existence of an isolated extremal (Reeb)
circle due to the vortex singularity. The explicit computation of cut points where
the extremal curves cease to be optimal is given and the spheres are described
in the case where at the initial point the current is weak.

text: "
Zusammenfassung
\r\n Einleitung
Ruhebedingungen (resting-state) durchgeführt. Die EEG-Daten wurden mit einem Magnetresonanztomographie-Template
koregistriert.
Design.
"

anterior tibia translation (ATT) in passive and dynamic situations. Passive ATT

of twenty-one healthy participants was measured using a KT-1000 arthrometer. All

negative correlation was found between ATTp and the maximal ATTd (r = − 0.47,

activity was seen when ATTd was larger, while less biceps femoris activity and
rectus femoris activity were seen. Moreover, larger knee extension moment, knee
flexion angle and ground reaction force in the anterior-posterior direction were
seen when ATTd was larger.
\r\n
\r\n

with more ATTp showed smaller ATTd during jump landing. Muscle activation did
not contribute to reduce ATTd during impact of a jump-landing at the observed
knee angles. However, subjects with large ATTp landed with less knee flexion and
consequently showed less ATTd. The results of this study give information on how

text: FPGAs have found increasing adoption in data center applications since a new
generation of high-level tools have become available which noticeably reduce development
time for FPGA accelerators and still provide high-quality results. There is, however,
no high-level benchmark suite available, which specifically enables a comparison
of FPGA architectures, programming tools, and libraries for HPC applications.
To fill this gap, we have developed an OpenCL-based open-source implementation
of the HPCC benchmark suite for Xilinx and Intel FPGAs. This benchmark can serve
to analyze the current capabilities of FPGA devices, cards, and development tool
flows, track progress over time, and point out specific difficulties for FPGA
acceleration in the HPC domain. Additionally, the benchmark documents proven performance
optimization patterns. We will continue optimizing and porting the benchmark for
new generations of FPGAs and design tools and encourage active participation to
create a valuable tool for the community. To fill this gap, we have developed

text: "
Abstract
Recent experimental work has revealed
that interstitial fluid flow can mobilize two types of tumor cell migration mechanisms.
One is a chemotactic-driven mechanism where chemokine (chemical component) bounded
to the extracellular matrix (ECM) is released and skewed in the flow direction.
This leads to higher chemical concentrations downstream which the tumor cells
can sense and migrate toward. The other is a mechanism where the flowing fluid
imposes a stress on the tumor cells which triggers them to go in the upstream
direction. Researchers have suggested that these two migration modes possibly
can play a role in metastatic behavior, i.e., the process where tumor cells are
able to break loose from the primary tumor and move to nearby lymphatic vessels.
In Waldeland and Evje (J Biomech 81:22–35, 2018), a mathematical cell–fluid model
was put forward based on a mixture theory formulation. It was demonstrated that
the model was able to capture the main characteristics of the two competing migration
mechanisms. The objective of the current work is to seek deeper insight into certain
qualitative aspects of these competing mechanisms by means of mathematical methods.
For that purpose, we propose a simpler version of the cell–fluid model mentioned
above but such that the two competing migration mechanisms are retained. An initial
cell distribution in a one-dimensional slab is exposed to a constant fluid flow
from one end to the other, consistent with the experimental setup. Then, we explore
by means of analytical estimates the long-time behavior of the two competing migration
mechanisms for two different scenarios: (i) when the initial cell volume fraction
is low and (ii) when the initial cell volume fraction is high. In particular,
it is demonstrated in a strict mathematical sense that for a sufficiently low
initial cell volume fraction, the downstream migration dominates in the sense
that the solution converges to a downstream-dominated steady state as time elapses.
On the other hand, with a sufficiently high initial cell volume fraction, the
upstream migration mechanism is the stronger in the sense that the solution converges
to an upstream-dominated steady state.\r\n
"

text:
Abstract
The problem of seamless parametrization
of surfaces is of interest in the context of structured quadrilateral mesh generation
and spline‐based surface approximation. It has been tackled by a variety of approaches,
commonly relying on continuous numerical optimization to ultimately obtain suitable
parameter domains. We present a general combinatorial seamless parameter domain
construction, free from the potential numerical issues inherent to continuous
optimization techniques in practice. The domains are constructed as abstract polygonal
complexes which can be embedded in a discrete planar grid space, as unions of
unit squares. We ensure that the domain structure matches any prescribed parametrization
singularities (cones) and satisfies seamlessness conditions. Surfaces of arbitrary
genus are supported. Once a domain suitable for a given surface is constructed,
a seamless and locally injective parametrization over this domain can be obtained
using existing planar disk mapping techniques, making recourse to Tutte's classical
embedding theorem.
