text: The terahertz frequency range provides abundant bandwidth (25GHz ~ 50 GHz)
to achieve ultra-high-speed wireless communication and enables data rates up to
and above 100 Gbps. We choose Parallel Sequence Spread Spectrum (PSSS) as an analog
friendly modulation and coding scheme that allows for an efficient mixed-signal
implementation of a 100 Gbps wireless communication system. In our system design,
we require a DAC (Digital to Analog converters) running at 1.67 G symbols/sec.
The optimization of the bit resolution of this DAC will considerably reduce the
hardware implementation efforts. In this work, we presented the analytical model
for PSSS modulation and deduced a mathematical formula to calculate the number
of discrete level amplitudes along with their probability distribution appearing
at the output of the PSSS modulated signal. The analytical analysis assists in
predicting the number of the quantization level of the DAC needed at the PSSS
transmitter. The theoretical analysis shows that there are in total 225 discrete
levels at the output of the PSSS encoder which leads to an 8-bit resolution of
DAC. In this paper, we analyzed the variation of BER (Bit Error Rate) to the clipping
of low probability amplitude levels and found that there is an only slight increase
of the BER when we clip off the low probability amplitude levels. Thus, there
is a tradeoff involved in a minor growth of BER concerning the reduction of the
DAC bit resolution. Finally, we can reduce the DAC bit resolution from 8 bits
to 7 bits and thus simplify the hardware implementation efforts of DAC operating
at 1.67 Gbps.

text: "
As a result of the increasing labor force participation of mothers,
this article questions how twoparent households divide the housework activities
of caring, cooking and cleaning. Therefore three types of couples with different
labor force participations were formed: Dual-earner couples, couples with additional
female income and malebreadwinner couples. The time use for the mentioned activities
was examined with a secondary analysis based on the German representative time
use surveys of 2012/2013 and 2001/2002. The analysis showed that fulltime mothers
spent the lowest amount of time for caring, cooking and cleaning. However, unemployed
mothers spent the most time for these activities. Within a decade – from 2001/2002
to 2012/2013 – all mothers have reduced their time spent on household activities.
Meanwhile, all parents in 2012/2013 take noticeably more time for child care.
Regardless of the mother’s labor force participation, mothers still spent more
time for caring, cooking and cleaning, especially on weekdays. Additionally, the
everyday housework is divided by gender. Only on weekends, couples with employed
mothers shared the care-work almost egalitarian.\r\nZusammenfassung\r\nVor
"

text: Traditional cache design uses a consolidated block of memory address bits
to index a cache set, equivalent to the use of modulo functions. While this module-based
mapping scheme is widely used in contemporary cache structures due to the simplicity
of its hardware design and its good performance for sequences of consecutive addresses,
its use may not be satisfactory for a variety of application domains having different
characteristics. This thesis presents a new type of cache mapping scheme, motivated
by programmable capabilities combined with Nature-inspired optimization of reconfigurable
hardware. This research has focussed on an FPGA-based evolvable cache structure
of the first level cache in a multi-core processor architecture, able to dynamically
change cache indexing. To solve the challenge of reconfigurable cache mappings,
a programmable Boolean circuit based on a combination of Look-up Table (LUT) memory
elements is proposed. Focusing on optimization aspects at the system level, a
Performance Measurement Infrastructure is introduced that is able to monitor the
underlying microarchitectural metrics, and an adaptive evaluation strategy is
presented that leverages on Evolutionary Algorithms, that is not only capable
of evolving application-specific address-to-cache-index mappings for level one
split caches but also of reducing optimization times. Putting this all together
and prototyping in an FPGA for a LEON3/Linux-based multi-core processor, the creation
of a system architecture reduces cache misses and improves performance over the
use of conventional caches.

text: To adapt to continuously changing workloads in networks, components of the
running network services may need to be replicated (scaling the network service)
and allocated to physical resources (placement) dynamically, also necessitating
dynamic re-routing of flows between service components. In this paper, we propose
JASPER, a fully automated approach to jointly optimizing scaling, placement, and
routing for complex network services, consisting of multiple (virtualized) components.
JASPER handles multiple network services that share the same substrate network;
services can be dynamically added or removed and dynamic workload changes are
handled. Our approach lets service designers specify their services on a high
level of abstraction using service templates. JASPER automatically makes scaling,
placement and routing decisions, enabling quick reaction to changes. We formalize
the problem, analyze its complexity, and develop two algorithms to solve it. Extensive
empirical results show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

text:
This study performed comparative analyses in two pediatric cohorts
to identify dietary patterns during primary school years and examined their relevance
to body composition development. Nutritional and anthropometric data at the beginning
of primary school and two or four years later were available from 298 and 372
participants of IDEFICS-Germany (Identification and prevention of Dietary-induced
and lifestyle-induced health Effects In Children and infants Study) and the KOPS
(Kiel Obesity Prevention Study) cohort, respectively. Principal component analyses
(PCA) and reduced rank regression (RRR) were used to identify dietary patterns
at baseline and patterns of change in food group intake during primary school
years. RRR extracted patterns explaining variations in changes in body mass index
(BMI), fat mass index (FMI), and waist-to-height-ratio (WtHR). Associations between
pattern adherence and excess gain in BMI, FMI, or WtHR (>75th percentile) during
primary school years were examined using logistic regression. Among PCA patterns,
only a change towards a more Mediterranean food choice during primary school years
were associated with a favorable body composition development in IDEFICS-Germany
(p < 0.05). In KOPS, RRR patterns characterized by a frequent consumption of
fast foods or starchy carbohydrate foods were consistently associated with an
excess gain in BMI and WtHR (all p < 0.005). In IDEFICS-Germany, excess gain
in BMI, FMI, and WtHR were predicted by a frequent consumption of nuts, meat,
and pizza at baseline and a decrease in the consumption frequency of protein sources
and snack carbohydrates during primary school years (all p < 0.01). The study
confirms an adverse impact of fast food consumption on body composition during
primary school years. Combinations of protein and carbohydrate sources deserve
further investigation.
