text: To detect errors or find potential for improvement during the CAD-supported
development of a complex technical system like modern industrial machines, the
system’s virtual prototype can be examined in virtual reality (VR) in the context
of virtual design reviews. Besides exploring the static shape of the examined
system, observing the machines’ mechanics (e.g., motor-driven mechanisms) and
transport routes for the material transport (e.g., via conveyor belts or chains,
or rail-based transport systems) can play an equally important role in such a
review. In practice it is often the case, that the relevant information about
transport routes, or kinematic properties is either not consequently modeled in
the CAD data or is lost during conversion processes. To significantly reduce the
manual effort and costs for creating animations of the machines complex behavior
with such limited input data for a design review, we present a set of algorithms
to automatically determine geometrical properties of machine parts based only
on their triangulated surfaces. The algorithms allow to detect the course of transport
systems, the orientation of objects in 3d space, rotation axes of cylindrical
objects and holes, the number of tooth of gears, as well as the tooth spacing
of toothed racks. We implemented the algorithms in the VR system PADrend and applied
them to animate virtual prototypes of real machines.

also aufwändig, manuell nachgearbeitet werden.

text: Liner carriers change their network on a regular basis, and they are therefore
interested in a practical evaluation of the impact these changes have on the cargo
flows in their networks. Despite great advancements in the practical applicability
of network evaluators in recent years, vessel deployment continues to be considered
as an input into the problem, rather than a decision. In this paper, we propose
an extension of a state-of-the-art mixed integer programming model for the LSCAP
that incorporates the optimization of vessel count and vessel classes for each
service. We perform a computational analysis on liner shipping networks of different
sizes and compare our optimized results to fixed deployment scenarios. By integrating
fleet deployment decisions into the cargo allocation problem, liner carriers can
increase the profitability of their networks by at least 2.8 to 16.9{\%} and greatly
    enhance their decision making.

text: 'Micro Physiological Systems (MPS), also known as Multi-Organ-Chip, Organ-on-a-Chip,
or Body-on-a-Chip, are advanced microfluidic systems that allow the cultivation
of different types of cells and tissue in just one common circuit. Furthermore,
they thus can also adjust the interaction of these different tissues. Perspectival
MPS will replace animal testing. For fast and flexible manufacturing and marking
of MPS, a concept for a universal micromachining platform has been developed which
provides the following latest key technologies: laser micro cutting of polymer
foils, laser micro- and sub-micro-structuring of polymer foils, 3D printing of
polymer components as well as optical inspection and online process control. The
combination of different laser sources, processing optics, inspection systems,
and print heads on multiple axes allows the change and exactly positioning to
the workpiece during the process. Therewith, the realization of MPS including
3D printed components as well as direct laser interference patterned surfaces
for well-defined cell adhesion and product protection is possible. Additional
basic technologies for the generation of periodical line-like structures at polycarbonate
foils using special Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP) optics as well
as for the 3D printing of fluid-tight cell culture reservoirs made of Acrylonitrile
Butadiene Styrene directly onto polycarbonate microfluidics were established.
A first prototype of the universal micromachining platform combining different
lasers with Direct Laser Writing and DLIP is shown. With this laser micro cutting
as well as laser micro-structuring of polycarbonate (PC) foils and therewith functionalization
for MPS application could be successfully demonstrated.'

text: Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology
which is used for prototypes, single-part-production and also small batch productions.
For use as a final product, it is important that the parts have good mechanical
properties, a high dimensional accuracy and smooth surfaces. The knowledge of
the mechanical properties is very important for the design engineer when it comes
to the component design. In this paper, investigations were conducted with the
polymer ABS-M30 from Stratasys Inc. To achieve a quality improvement of FDM parts,
various toolpath parameters and orientations were used. Within the mechanical
properties, the tensile, flexural and impact strength were evaluated. Furthermore,
the tensile strength of FDM parts is compared to injection molded specimens. With
optimized parameters, an increase of the tensile strength by up to 28 % and a
doubling of the impact strength were possible.

text: Websites increasingly embed semantic data for search engine optimization.
The most common ontology for semantic data, schema.org, is supported by all major
search engines and describes over 500 data types, including calendar events, recipes,
products, and TV shows. As of today, users wishing to pass this data to their
favorite applications, e.g., their calendars, cookbooks, price comparison applications
or even smart devices such as TV receivers, rely on cumbersome and error-prone
workarounds such as reentering the data or a series of copy and paste operations.
In this paper, we present Semantic Data Mediator (SDM), an approach that allows
the easy transfer of semantic data to a multitude of services, ranging from web
services to applications installed on different devices. SDM extracts semantic
data from the currently displayed web page on the client-side, offers suitable
services to the user, and by the press of a button, forwards this data to the
desired service while doing all the necessary data conversion and service interface
adaptation in between. To realize this, we built a reusable repository of service
descriptions, data converters, and service adapters, which can be extended by
the crowd. Our approach for linking services to websites relies solely on semantic
data and does not require any additional support by either website or service
developers. We have fully implemented our approach and present a real-world case
study demonstrating its feasibility and usefulness.

text: "In this chapter we present the adaptions of the recently proposed Directed
Search method to the context of unconstrained parameter dependent multi-objective
optimization problems (PMOPs). The new method, called \U0001D706-DS, is capable
of performing a movement both toward and along the solution set of a given differentiable
PMOP. We first discuss the basic variants of the method that use gradient information
and describe subsequently modifications that allow for a gradient free realization.
Finally, we show that \U0001D706-DS can be used to understand the behavior of
stochastic local search within PMOPs to a certain extent which might be interesting
for the development of future local search engines, or evolutionary strategies,
for the treatment of such problems. We underline all our statements with several
numerical results indicating the strength of the novel approach."

text: Integrating user preferences in Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization (EMO)
is currently a prevalent research topic. There is a large variety of preference
handling methods (originated from Multicriteria decision making, MCDM) and EMO
methods, which have been combined in various ways. This paper proposes a Web Ontology
Language (OWL) ontology to model and systematize the knowledge of preference-based
multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (PMOEAs). Detailed procedure is given on
how to build and use the ontology with the help of Protégé. Different use-cases,
including training new learners, querying and reasoning are exemplified and show
remarkable benefit for both EMO and MCDM communities.

text: The liner shipping fleet repositioning problem (LSFRP) is a central optimization
problem within the container shipping industry. Several approaches exist for solving
this problem using exact and heuristic techniques, however all of them use a single
objective function for determining an optimal solution. We propose a multi-objective
approach based on a simulated annealing heuristic so that repositioning coordinators
can better balance profit making with cost-savings and environmental sustainability.
As the first multi-objective approach in the area of liner shipping routing, we
show that giving more options to decision makers need not be costly. Indeed, our
approach requires no extra runtime than a weighted objective heuristic and provides
a rich set of solutions along the Pareto front.

text: The novel R package ecr (version 2), short for Evolutionary Computation in
R, provides a comprehensive collection of building blocks for constructing powerful
evolutionary algorithms for single- and multi-objective continuous and combinatorial
optimization problems. It allows to solve standard optimization tasks with few
lines of code using a black-box approach. Moreover, rapid prototyping of non-standard
ideas is possible via an explicit, white-box approach. This paper describes the
design principles of the package and gives some introductory examples on how to
    use the package in practise.

text: 'While finding minimum-cost spanning trees (MST) in undirected graphs is solvable
in polynomial time, the multi-criteria minimum spanning tree problem (mcMST) is
NP-hard. Interestingly, the mcMST problem has not been in focus of evolutionary
computation research for a long period of time, although, its relevance for real
world problems is easy to see. The available and most notable approaches by Zhou
and Gen as well as by Knowles and Corne concentrate on solution encoding and on
fairly dated selection mechanisms. In this work, we revisit the mcMST and focus
on the mutation operators as exploratory components of evolutionary algorithms
neglected so far. We investigate optimal solution characteristics to discuss current
mutation strategies, identify shortcomings of these operators, and propose a sub-tree
based operator which offers what we term Pareto-beneficial behavior: ensuring
convergence and diversity at the same time. The operator is empirically evaluated
inside modern standard evolutionary meta-heuristics for multi-criteria optimization
and compared to hitherto applied mutation operators in the context of mcMST.'
