text: "In order to investigate the significance of\r\nadults’ relationship to their
parents, this relationship is\r\ncompared to relationships with siblings, friends,
    partners,\r\nand children. German adults (N = 902) between the ages\r\nof 20 and
86 completed the Network of Relationships\r\nInventory (Furman and Buhrmester
1992). Participants felt\r\nmost supported by their partners, followed by their
children, mothers, friends, fathers, and siblings. Conflicts were\r\nmore frequently
found within the family (especially with\r\nthe partner, followed by children,
mothers, fathers, and\r\nsiblings) than with friends. Except for partner relationships,\r\nboth
conflict and support decreased with age. Concerning\r\nrelative power within their
relationships, partners, mothers,\r\nand siblings are seen as equals, friends
and especially\r\nfathers are perceived as more powerful, and children as\r\nless,
yet increasingly powerful. Regarding all relationship\r\ntypes and relationship
qualities, the differences between\r\nwomen and men were small."

text: IP-XACT is a well accepted standard for the exchange of IP components at Electronic
System and Register Transfer Level. Still, the creation and manipulation of these
descriptions at the XML level can be time-consuming and error-prone. In this paper,
we show that the UML can be consistently applied as an efficient and comprehensible
frontend for IP-XACT-based IP description and integration. For this, we present
an IP-XACT UML profile that enables UML-based descriptions covering the same information
as a corresponding IP-XACT description. This enables the automated generation
of IP-XACT component and design descriptions from respective UML models. In particular,
it also allows the integration of existing IPs with UML. To illustrate our approach,
we present an application example based on the IBM PowerPC Evaluation Kit.

text: 'Several positioning tasks demand translatory drive instead of rotary motion.
To achieve drives that are capable, e.g., to drive the sunroof of a car or to
lift a car''s window, multiple miniaturized motors can be combined. But in this
case many other questions arise: The electromechanical behavior of the individual
motors differs slightly, the motor characteristics are strongly dependent on the
driving parameters and the driven load, many applications need some extra power
for special cases like overcoming higher forces periodically. Thus, the bundle
of motors has to act well-organized and at last controlled to get an optimized
drive that is not oversized and costly.'

text: In this paper, we propose a novel similarity measure to be used for localizing
mobile terminals by comparing measured signal power levels with a database of
predictions. The proposed measure provides the possibility to incorporate inherent
information about signal power level measurements requested by the serving base
station but not reported by the mobile terminal. Increased positioning accuracy
was observed both in simulations and with real field data

text: In this paper, we experimentally evaluate algorithms for velocity estimation
of a GSM 900 mobile terminal which are based on the analysis of the statistical
properties of the fast fading process. It is shown how theses statistics can be
obtained from the training sequences present in downlink transmission bursts without
establishing an active connection. Realistic simulations of a GSM channel according
to the COST 207 channel models have been conducted. These models incorporate effects
like multipath propagation, fading, cochannel interference and additive noise.
It is shown that velocity estimation by searching for the maximum slope of the
power density spectrum of the fast fading performs best.

text: For human-machine interfaces in distant-talking environments multichannel
signal processing is often employed to obtain an enhanced signal for subsequent
processing. In this paper we propose a novel adaptation algorithm for a filter-and-sum
beamformer to adjust the coefficients of FIR filters to changing acoustic room
impulses, e.g. due to speaker movement. A deterministic and a stochastic gradient
ascent algorithm are derived from a constrained optimization problem, which iteratively
estimates the eigenvector corresponding to the largest eigenvalue of the cross
power spectral density of the microphone signals. The method does not require
an explicit estimation of the speaker location. The experimental results show
fast adaptation and excellent robustness of the proposed algorithm.

text: 'Several positioning tasks demand translatory drive instead of rotary motion.
To achieve drives that are capable e.g. to drive the sunroof of a car or to lift
a car''s window, multiple miniaturized motors can be combined. But in this case
many other questions arise: the electromechanical behavior of the individual motors
differs slightly, the motor characteristics are strongly dependent on the driving
parameters and the driven load, many applications need some extra power for special
cases like overcoming higher forces periodically. Thus, the bundle of motors has
to act well organized and controlled to get an optimized drive that is not oversized
    and costly.'

text: Piezoelectric transformers are well known since the publication of some patent
applications at the end of the 1950s. But until today their only business use
lies in the field of backlighting systems for LCDs. Due to key features as light-weight,
flatness, high step-up at low volume and high efficiency piezoelectric transformers
should be usable in a much broader range of applications. This contribution returns
to mind their operating principle, shows how to model and to develop such devices
as well as give some aspects for development trends that will lead to further
    applications.

text: Rapid prototyping based on 3D models is well accepted for several applications.
This article addresses the application of animated virtual 3D prototypes for the
development of computer-based systems supporting early collaboration of the system
designer with the external customer. Our methodology seamlessly integrates illustration
through 3D animation with the main tasks of computer-based real-time systems development,
i.e., implementation and verification. The approach is outlined by the example
of the design of a flexible manufacturing system.
