text: "In light of growing demands for resource efficiency and sustainability in
vehicle engineering, the environmentally compatible separation of structural adhesive
joints is gaining increasing relevance. This study presents a comparative analysis
of two physically based debonding methods: the established hot-air process and
a cryogenic cold process based on liquid nitrogen (LN2). The primary objective
is to assess the ecological impact and process-related sustainability of both
    approaches.\r\nExperimental investigations were conducted on a component-representative
triple-sheet structure that simulates common automotive flange joints. Thermal
input was applied either by convective heating using a hot air gun or by direct
cooling through a contact-based LN2 tool. The resulting temperature profiles were
recorded using spatially distributed thermocouples. Subsequently, the outer panel
was selectively debonded to replicate a repair scenario, and the mechanical integrity
of the remaining adhesive joint was evaluated through Mode I testing of L-shaped
specimens. Process data served as input for an Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) according
to DIN EN ISO 14040.\r\nThe cryogenic method achieved a 40% reduction in carbon
footprint compared to the hot-air process (0.337 kg vs. 0.559 kg CO2-equivalents),
primarily due to its shorter process time and more efficient heat transfer. While
the hot-air method’s impact is mainly driven by electrical energy use, that of
the cold method stems from cryogenic media consumption. Notwithstanding certain
disadvantages in specific impact categories, the LN2-based process exhibits a
superior overall ecological performance and signifies a promising solution for
repair- and recycling-oriented adhesive separation in structural vehicle applications."

  text:
Abstract
Engineering projects for complex
technical systems such as automobiles demand extensive requirement specifications
and corresponding hierarchy levels in system architectures. Especially when considering
emergent phenomena, such as total weight or aerodynamics, a closely networked
collaboration of discipline‐specific and cross‐disciplinary roles is required.
Further, in large organizations with a group structure, resulting functional and
non‐functional contents need to be managed by distinct Systems Engineering roles.
For example, the role “property manager” takes care of achieving overarching product
properties, such as weight or aerodynamics, which cannot be directly fixed, but
result from many specifications. This paper proposes new Systems Engineering roles
and their application in a German Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). For validation,
the roles have already been applied in everyday engineering projects at the OEM.
The concept proved to be indispensable and transferable to other Systems Engineering
    projects.

  text: "
While referencing is an important feature of academic writing, many
students struggle with using sources. This struggle seems to be due, in part,
to the tension students experience when advised to cite sources (i.e., others’
voices) on the one hand, and to demonstrate their own disciplinary voice on the
other hand. The aim of this article is to contribute to the understanding of source
use, presenting a figure that illustrates gradients of students’ engagement with
sources in various sections of their bachelor’s theses. Based on Bakhtin’s idea
that a writer’s voice gradually emerges out of others’ words, and the terms knowledge
telling and knowledge transforming, we developed a continuum that might help to
understand the complexity of source use. We arrived at this continuum through
the qualitative exploration of students’ use of sources in 15 bachelor’s theses
from the humanities in one Norwegian university. In this article, we illustrate
the continuum through extracts from the students’ theses, showing how issues of
voice are intertwined with students’ engagement with sources. We propose that
understanding the various functions of sources as they are typically used in the
disciplines will help students to develop and demonstrate their disciplinary voices.
Moreover, the continuum provides a foundation for fruitful discussions of writing
practices that raise critical awareness about implicit expectations concerning
source use and issues of voice in academic writing.\r\n
"

  text:
The development of automotive components with reduced greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions is needed to reduce overall vehicle emissions. Life Cycle Engineering
(LCE) based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) supports this by providing holistic
information and improvement potentials regarding eco-efficient products. Key factors
influencing LCAs of automotive components, such as material production, will change
in the future. First approaches for integrating future scenarios for these key
factors into LCE already exist, but they only consider a limited number of parameters
and scenarios. This work aims to develop a method that can be practically applied
in the industry for integrating prospective LCAs (pLCA) into the LCE of automotive
components, considering relevant parameters and consistent scenarios. Therefore,
pLCA methods are further developed to investigate the influence of future scenarios
on the GHG emissions of automotive components. The practical application is demonstrated
for a vehicle component with different design options. This paper shows that different
development paths of the foreground and background system can shift the ecological
optimum of design alternatives. Therefore, future pathways of relevant parameters
must be considered comprehensively to reduce GHG emissions of future vehicles.
This work contributes to the methodological and practical integration of pLCA
into automotive development processes and provides quantitative results.

text: Reliability-adaptive systems allow an adaptation of system behavior based
on current system reliability. They can extend their lifetime at the cost of lowered
performance or vice versa. This can be used to adapt failure behavior according
to a maintenance plan, thus increasing availability while using up system capability
fully. To facilitate setup, a control algorithm independent of a degradation model
is desired. A closed loop control technique for reliability based on a health
index, a measure for system degradation, is introduced. It uses self-optimization
as means to implement behavior adaptation. This is based on selecting the priorities
of objectives that the system pursues. Possible working points are computed beforehand
using model-based multiobjective optimization techniques. The controller selects
the priorities of objectives and this way balances reliability and performance.
As exemplary application, an automatically actuated single plate dry clutch is
introduced. The entire reliability control is setup and lifetime experiments are
conducted. Results show that the variance of time to failure is reduced greatly,
making the failure behavior more predictable. At the same time, the desired usable
lifetime can be extended at the cost of system performance to allow for changed
maintenance intervals. Together, these possibilities allow for greater system
usage and better planning of maintenance.

text: In this paper we present an approach for the configuration and reconfiguration
of FlexRay networks to increase their fault tolerance. To guarantee a correct
and deterministic system behavior, the FlexRay specification does not allow a
reconfiguration of the schedapproachule during run time. To avoid the necessity
of a complete bus restart in case of a node failure, we propose a reconfiguration
using redundant slots in the schedule and/or combine messages in existing frames
and slots, to compensate node failures and increase robustness. Our approach supports
the developer to increase the fault tolerance of the system during the design
phase. It is a heuristic, which, additionally to a determined initial configuration,
calculates possible reconfigurations for the remaining nodes of the FlexRay network
in case of a node failure, to keep the system working properly. An evaluation
by means of realistic safety-critical automotive real-time systems revealed that
it determines valid reconfigurations for up to 80% of possible individual node
failures. In summary, our approach offers major support for the developer of FlexRay
networks since the results provide helpful feedback about reconfiguration capabilities.
In an iterative design process these information can be used to determine and
    optimize valid reconfigurations.

text: For many technical applications it is necessary to avoid or to reduce vibrations.
Factors benefiting from vibration reduction are for example the durability of
the application, which is increased, as well as cost expenses and the level of
noise, which are both decreased. Rough, bolted interfaces are common in most machines
and can be used as damping devices with some effort. Perhaps in future such contact
surfaces could be used as damping devices at the interfaces of an automotive engine
or exhaust system. Nevertheless it is difficult to predict the effect of a change
in contact interface parameters on the dynamic behavior of the entire mechanical
system. Therefore a method for calculating the steady state behavior of elastic
multi-body systems was developed. The basis of this method is a finite element
model of each contacting unit. On each model a modal reduction is applied in order
to reduce the degrees of freedom. The method of Ritz and Galerkin is used to calculate
the frequency response functions of the reduced system including contact. This
method allows the calculation of the steady-state behavior of elastic multi-body
systems with rough, bolted contact interfaces, by taking the pre-stress of the
bolts, the roughness and the friction coefficient of the contacting surfaces as
parameters. In order to verify calculated results, a test stand was built. The
comparison of calculated and experimental results showed a satisfying correlation.

text: Safety-critical automotive systems must fulfill hard real-time constraints
for reliability and safety. This paper presents a case study for the application
of an AUTOSAR-based language for timing modeling and analysis. We present and
apply the Timing Augmented Description Language (TADL) and demonstrate a methodology
for the development of a speed-adaptive steer-by-wire system. We examine the impact
of TADL and the methodology on the development process and the suitability and
interoperability of the applied tools with respect to the AUTOSAR-based tool chain
in the context of our case study.

text: Today we can identify a big gap between requirement specification and the
generation of test environments. This article extends the Classification Tree
Method for Embedded Systems (CTM/ES) to fill this gap by new concepts for the
precise specification of stimuli for operational ranges of continuous control
systems. It introduces novel means for continuous acceptance criteria definition
    and for functional coverage definition.

text: Safety-critical automotive systems must fulfill hard real-time constraints
to guarantee their reliability and safety requirements. In the context of network-based
electronics systems, high-level timing requirements have to be carefully mastered
and traced throughout the whole development process. In this paper, we outline
the management of scheduling-specific timing information by the application of
a steer-by-wire design example. We apply the principles of the AUTOSAR-compliant
Timing Augmented Description Language (TADL) following the methodology introduced
by the TIMMO project[2]. Focus of the example will be the identification of end-to-end
timing constraints and their refinement by means of stimuli-response event chains.

text: TestML is an XML-based language for the exchange of test descriptions in automotive
systems design and mainly introduced through the structural definition of an XML
schema as an independent exchange format for existing tools and methods covering
a wide range of different test technologies. In this paper, we present a rigorous
formal behavioral semantics for TestML by means of Abstract State Machines (ASMs).
Our semantics is a concise, unambiguous, high-level specification for TestML-based
implementations and serves as a basis to define exact and well-defined mappings
between existing test languages and TestML.
