It allows customers to easily scale their infrastructure and save on the overall cost of operation. However Cloud service offerings can only thrive if customers are satisfied with service performance. Allow-ing instantaneous access and flexible scaling while maintaining the service levels and offering competitive prices poses a significant challenge to Cloud Computing providers. Furthermore services will remain available in the long run only if this business generates a stable revenue stream. To address these challenges we introduce novel policy-based service admission control mod-els that aim at maximizing the revenue of Cloud providers while taking in-formational uncertainty regarding resource requirements into account. Our evaluation shows that policy-based approaches statistically significantly out-perform first come first serve approaches, which are still state of the art. Furthermore the results give insights in how and to what extent uncertainty has a negative impact on revenue.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"ddc":["000"],"keyword":["admission control","informational uncertainty","revenue management","cloud computing"]},{"author":[{"full_name":"Meyer, Tobias","last_name":"Meyer","first_name":"Tobias"},{"first_name":"Thorben","last_name":"Kaul","full_name":"Kaul, Thorben","id":"14802"},{"first_name":"Walter","full_name":"Sextro, Walter","id":"21220","last_name":"Sextro"}],"date_created":"2019-05-27T08:29:40Z","date_updated":"2019-09-16T10:43:42Z","doi":"10.1016/j.ifacol.2015.09.647","title":"Advantages of reliability-adaptive system operation for maintenance planning","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"short":"T. This can be used to assure reliability by controlling system behavior to reach a pre-defined lifetime. By using such closed loop control, the margin of error of useful lifetime of an individual system is lowered. It is also possible to change the pre-defined lifetime during operation, by adapting system behavior to derate component usage. When planning maintenance actions, the remaining useful lifetime of each individual system has to be taken into account. Usually, stochastic properties of a fleet of systems are analyzed to create maintenance plans. Among these, the main factor is the probability of an individual system to last until maintenance. If condition-based maintenance is used, this is updated for each individual system using available information about its current state. By lowering the margin of error of useful lifetime, which directly corresponds to the time until maintenance, extended maintenance periods are made possible. Also using reliability-adaptive operation, a reversal of degradation driven maintenance planning is possible where a maintenance plan is setup not only according to system properties, but mainly to requirements imposed by maintenance personnel or infrastructure. Each system then adapts its behavior accordingly and fails according to the maintenance plan, making better use of maintenance personnel and system capabilities at the same time. In this contribution, the potential of maintenance plan driven system behavior adaptation is shown. A model including adaptation process and maintenance actions is simulated over full system lifetime to assess the advantages gained.","lang":"eng"}]},{"publication_status":"published","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0093-9994","1939-9367"]},"issue":"5","year":"2015","citation":{"apa":"Solanki, J., Fröhleke, N., Böcker, J., Duppe, G., Averberg, A., & Wallmeier, P. These systems are able to adapt their objectives and their behavior according to the current situation and influences autonomously. This behavior adaptation is non-deterministic and hence self-optimization is a risk to the system, e.g. if the result of the self-optimization process does not match the suddenly changed situation. In contrary, self-optimization could be used to increase the dependability by pursuing objectives like reliability and availability. In our preceding publications we introduced the so called multi-level dependability concept to cope with this new kind of systems (cf. [6]). This concept comprises the monitoring of the system behavior, the classification of the current situation, and the selection of the appropriate measure, if reliability limits are exceeded. In this paper we present for the first time experimental results. The dependability concept is implemented in the self-optimizing active guidance system of a railway vehicle. The test drives illustrate clearly that the proposed concept is able to cope with, e.g., sensor failures, and is able to increase the reliability and availability of the active guidance module."}],"status":"public","type":"conference","publication":"Reliability and Maintainability Symposium (RAMS), 2010 Proceedings - Annual","keyword":["availability","dependability concept","multilevel dependability concept","railway vehicle","reliability","self optimizing active guidance system","self optimizing railway guidance system","situation classification","system behavior monitoring","optimal control","railways","reliability theory","self-adjusting systems"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"9763","user_id":"55222","department":[{"_id":"151"}],"year":"2010","citation":{"apa":"Sondermann-Wölke, C., Geisler, J., & Sextro, W. To achieve drives that are capable, e.g., to drive the sunroof of a car or to lift a car's window, multiple miniaturized motors can be combined. Thus, the bundle of motors has to act well-organized and at last controlled to get an optimized drive that is not oversized and costly."}],"date_created":"2019-04-29T12:27:25Z","publisher":"Springer US","title":"Driving concepts for bundled ultrasonic linear motors","issue":"3-4","quality_controlled":"1","year":"2008"},{"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["biomedical measurement","brain","cancer","neurophysiology","phantoms","phase locked loops","piezoelectric actuators","surgery","tactile sensors","transfer functions","tumours","PLL","biomedical tissue differentiation system","brain tumor resection","frequency control","frequency shift","gel-phantom","high sensitivity actuator-sensor system","neurosurgery","phase-locked loop","piezoelectric actuators","piezoelectric bimorph","self-oscillating circuit","sensor sensitivity","tactile differentiation","tactile sensor system","transfer function","tumor boundary","visual differentiation","Biomedical measurements","Circuits","Frequency control","Neoplasms","Neurosurgery","Phase locked loops","Piezoelectric actuators","Surges","Transfer functions","Voltage"],"user_id":"55222","department":[{"_id":"151"}],"_id":"9576","status":"public","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"In neurosurgery, delineation of tumor boundaries during resection of brain tumors is of substantial relevance. DPS is contingent on the current intentions. The invisible stimuli can be processed for the purposes of sensorimotor control only if they match the actual intentions, for example, share task-relevant features. The present experiments explore whether attentional capture by masked abrupt-onset stimuli is mediated via DPS. Participants judged which of two visual targets appeared first. Masked primes preceded one of the targets. The primes were either similar to the targets or not, in shape, or in color. Target-like (task-relevant), but not distractor-like (task-irrelevant), primes facilitated perceptual latencies of targets trailing at their positions. Thus, the latency effects resulted from DPS of an attention shift, rather than from bottom-up capture or from top-down "}],"user_id":"42165","department":[{"_id":"424"}],"_id":"6065","extern":"1","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["direct parameter specification","DPS","attention shift","latency priming","sensorimotor control","stimuli","task-relevant features","visual targets","color","shape","latency effects","Adult","Attention","Discrimination (Psychology)","Female","Humans","Judgment","Male","Perceptual Masking","Reaction Time","Visual Perception","Attention","Perceptual Motor Processes","Response Latency","Stimulus Onset","Visual Stimulation","Form and Shape Perception","Sensory Adaptation"]},{"volume":49,"author":[{"first_name":"Joachim","full_name":"Böcker, Joachim","id":"66","orcid":"0000-0002-8480-7295","last_name":"Böcker"},{"first_name":"Jörg","full_name":"Janning, Jörg","last_name":"Janning"},{"first_name":"Helmut","full_name":"Jebenstreit, Helmut","last_name":"Jebenstreit"}],"date_created":"2022-02-23T13:23:46Z","date_updated":"2022-03-17T09:50:08Z","publisher":"Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)","doi":"10.1109/tie.2002.803220","title":"High dynamic control of a three-level voltage-source-converter drive for a main strip mill","issue":"5","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0278-0046"]},"publication_status":"published","page":"1081-1092","intvolume":" 49","citation":{"chicago":"Böcker, Joachim, Jörg Janning, and Helmut Jebenstreit. “High Dynamic Control of a Three-Level Voltage-Source-Converter Drive for a Main Strip Mill.” IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics 49, no. 5 (2002): 1081–92. https://doi.org/10.1109/tie.2002.803220.","ieee":"J. Fuzzy logic was introduced to directly support these applications (H. Zimmermann, 1991). Fuzzy control (FC) which is based on fuzzy logic allows one to control complex systems based on qualitative information like human knowledge (C. Geiger and G. Lehrenfeld, 1994). In fuzzy logic, fuzzy sets are usually defined and manipulated by means of complex mathematics, whereas the fuzzy control process is frequently outlined by visual sketches based on set diagrams in order to enhance the comprehension of the inference process. The rule based execution of this process usually follows the lines of rule based visual programming languages (VPLs), i.e., languages comparable to Agentsheets and ChemTrains. This strongly indicates that VPLs are thus well applicable for this use. We first outline the basic concepts of fuzzy logic and fuzzy control. Thereafter, we sketch a visual language which integrates fuzzy set diagrams in the visual representation of rules. The basic concepts are inherited from the complete visual programming language, Pictorial Janus (PJ). However, we significantly simplify PJ's visual concepts in order to adapt it for our purpose."}],"status":"public","date_updated":"2023-01-24T11:51:08Z","date_created":"2023-01-24T11:51:04Z","author":[{"full_name":"Dücker, M.","last_name":"Dücker","first_name":"M."},{"last_name":"Geiger","full_name":"Geiger, Christian","first_name":"Christian"},{"first_name":"Georg","full_name":"Lehrenfeld, Georg","last_name":"Lehrenfeld"},{"id":"16243","full_name":"Müller, Wolfgang","last_name":"Müller","first_name":"Wolfgang"},{"first_name":"C.","last_name":"Tahedl","full_name":"Tahedl, C."}],"title":"A Visual Programming Language for Qualitative Data","doi":"10.1109/VL.1997.626593","publication_identifier":{"isbn":["0-8186-8144-6"]},"year":"1997","place":"Capri, Italy","citation":{"mla":"Dücker, M., et al. “A Visual Programming Language for Qualitative Data.” Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages, 1997, doi:10.1109/VL.1997.626593.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Dücker_Geiger_Lehrenfeld_Müller_Tahedl_1997, place={Capri, Italy}, title={A Visual Programming Language for Qualitative Data}, DOI={10.1109/VL.1997.626593}, booktitle={Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages}, author={Dücker, M. and Geiger, Christian and Lehrenfeld, Georg and Müller, Wolfgang and Tahedl, C.}, year={1997} }","short":"M. Kahn and V. Saraswat, 1990), for the modeling of complex systems and their control strategies. These systems can be seen as networks of communicating objects. Objects select strategies for suitable actions based on incoming messages. Our field of investigation is in computer integrated manufacturing considering the example of a car manufacturing cell. This color sorting assembly buffer (CSAB) schedules jobs in queues. The jobs represent car bodies scheduled in feeder lines for the enameling. Feeder lines collect raw bodies to blocks. Blocks are bodies which are to be enameled by the same color. This organization decreases the cost of expensive change-over-times when changing colors at the enamelling. Blocks of bodies are dislocated from the queue and enameled successively. Contradictory system goals, such as minimizing color changes and preserving the sequence of incoming jobs, have to be regarded by appropriate control strategies. Due to the complexity of this (NP complete) problem and to real time requirements for online control there are no optimal strategies on hand. Consequently, suitable heuristics have to be developed. Often they are designed applying a trial-and-error method. A modeling framework has to support the rapid prototyping of these systems as well as an expressive end user oriented representation. Both are essential requirements since end users need other visualization techniques than experienced designers due to their different knowledge and interests.","lang":"eng"}],"status":"public","_id":"39526","department":[{"_id":"672"}],"user_id":"5786","keyword":["Computer integrated manufacturing","Job shop scheduling","Processor scheduling","Computer languages","Control system synthesis","Computer aided manufacturing","Sorting","Assembly","Costs","Control systems"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}]}]
