text: Most single-screw extruders used in the plastics processing industry are plasticizing
extruders, designed to melt solid pellets or powders within the screw channel
during processing. In many cases, the efficiency of the melting process acts as
the primary throughput-limiting factor. If the material melts too late in the
process, it may not be sufficiently mixed, resulting in substandard product quality.
Accurate prediction of the melting process is therefore essential for efficient
and cost-effective machine design. A practical method for engineers is the modeling
of the melting process using mathematical–physical models that can be solved without
complex numerical methods. These models enable rapid calculations while still
providing sufficient predictive accuracy. This study revisits the modified Tadmor
model by Potente, which describes the melting process and predicts the delay-zone
length, extending from the hopper front edge to the point of melt pool formation.
Based on extensive experimental investigations, this model is adapted by redefining
the flow temperatures at the phase boundary and accounting for surface porosity
at the beginning of the melting zone. Additionally, the effect of variable solid
bed dynamics on model accuracy is examined. Significant model improvements were
achieved by accounting for reduced heat flow into the solid bed due to the porous
surface structure in the solid conveying zone, along with a new assumption for
the flow temperature at the phase boundary between the solid bed and melt film.

text: "Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks (WASNs) have a wide range of audio signal
processing applications. Due to the spatial diversity of the microphone and their
relative position to the acoustic source, not all microphones are equally useful
for subsequent audio signal processing tasks, nor do they all have the same wireless
data transmission rates. Hence, a central task in WASNs is to balance a microphone’s
estimated acoustic utility against its transmission delay, selecting a best-possible
subset of microphones to record audio signals.\r\n\r\nIn this work, we use reinforcement
learning to decide if a microphone should be used or switched off to maximize
the acoustic quality at low transmission delays, while minimizing switching frequency.
In experiments with moving sources in a simulated acoustic environment, our method
    outperforms naive baseline comparisons"

text: In this paper we present an approach for the self reconfiguration of distributed
micro-controllers for increased fault tolerance. Based on a modified distributed
system topology utilizing a time division multiple access (TDMA) protocol, i.e.,
Flex Ray, we present a self-organized distributed coordinator concept which performs
the self-reconfiguration in the case of node failures. We introduce a distributed
coordinator, which utilizes redundant slots in the Flex Ray communication schedule
and combines messages in configured protocol frames and slots to avoid a complete
bus restart. As such, the self-reconfiguration is realized by means of predetermined
information about resulting changes in the communication dependencies and (re-)assignments
determined in the design phase. To retrieve the necessary information, we present
an analytical approach, which determines a combined solution for the initial configuration
and all possible reconfigurations for the remaining nodes of the Flex Ray network
in case of node failures. Hence, through this method we can design self-reconfiguring
network-based systems enabling the handling of node failures for an increased
    fault tolerance.

text: Safety-critical automotive systems must fulfill hard real-time constraints
for reliability and safety. This paper presents a case study for the application
of an AUTOSAR-based language for timing modeling and analysis. We present and
apply the Timing Augmented Description Language (TADL) and demonstrate a methodology
for the development of a speed-adaptive steer-by-wire system. We examine the impact
of TADL and the methodology on the development process and the suitability and
interoperability of the applied tools with respect to the AUTOSAR-based tool chain
in the context of our case study.

text: Today, mobile and embedded real-time systems have to cope with the migration
and allocation of multiple software tasks running on top of a real-time operating
system (RTOS) residing on one or multiple system processors. Abstract RTOS simulations
and timing analysis applies for fast and early estimation to configure it towards
the individual needs of the application and environment. In this context, a high
accuracy of the simulation compared to an instruction set simulation (ISS) is
of key importance. In this paper, we investigate the accuracy of abstract RTOS
simulation and compare it to ISS and the behavior of the physical system. We show
that we can reach an increased accuracy of the simulation when we inject noise
into the time model. Our results indicate that it is sufficient to inject uniformly
distributed random time values to the RTOS real-time clock.

text: Current navigation systems like GPS (Global Positioning System) and its Russian
counterpart GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) only evaluate the direct
signal path. The receivers treat the reflected paths also reaching the receiver
antenna as disturbance which has to be suppressed. Multipath affects the tracking
accuracy by resulting in a degeneration of the S-curve of the DLL (delay locked
loop). Nowadays the future European systems GALILEO and GPSIIF/III with two new
signals are on the way to the market and it is time to think about new receiver
structures. Therefore we investigated if it is possible to use multipath for navigation
    constructively.
