text: While the Information Systems (IS) discipline has researched digital platforms
extensively, the body of knowledge appertaining to platforms still appears fragmented
and lacking conceptual consistency. Based on automated text mining and unsupervised
machine learning, we collect, analyze, and interpret the IS discipline’s comprehensive
research on platforms—comprising 11,049 papers spanning 44 years of research activity.
From a cluster analysis concerning platform concepts’ semantically most similar
words, we identify six research streams on platforms, each with their own platform
terms. Based on interpreting the identified concepts vis-à-vis the extant research
and considering a temporal perspective on the concepts’ application, we present
a lexicon of platform concepts, to guide further research on platforms in the
IS discipline. Researchers and managers can build on our results to position their
work appropriately, applying a specific theoretical perspective on platforms in
isolation or combining multiple perspectives to study platform phenomena at a
    more abstract level.

beschleunigen.

text: "Due to the increasing influences of a VUCA world, design thinking workshops
have been established as a standard technique to build solutions according to
uncertain customer needs. Concerning the ongoing pandemic and rising development
of solutions across organizations, more and more workshops were conducted online
with software support. However, existing software tools insufficiently address
the different workshop situations in terms of the process (i.e., fixed tasks to
conduct), the place (e.g., static online whiteboards), and people (i.e., synchronous
working of all stakeholders).\r\nTherefore, we propose a design science study
to develop a situation-specific software support that can be configured with flexible
development processes, different places, and task-related people. Based on practical
experience in existing research projects, we derive the initial design requirements
and map them to a set of design principles. Out of that, we design a concept with
its implementation as a software tool and point out open challenges. "

text: Sustainable product engineering is becoming increasingly important. This includes
the development of environmentally friendly products and the design for recycling.
In this paper a holistic method for the assessment of solution alternatives is
presented, in which the stakeholder perspectives along the generic product lifecycle
are taken into account. Finally, a new visualization is presented. By visualizing
the results in the integrated sustainability triangle, decision-makers in product
development can holistically assess the sustainability of the solution alternatives.

text: The construct of noticing is considered to be of crucial importance for professional
action of (prospective) physical education (PE) teachers in the context of (inclusive)
PE. In order to implement the demands of inclusive PE teaching, noticingwith regard
to processes of recognition proves to be particularly significant. Due to the
relevance of physicality, the design of recognition relationships that encourage
pupils' development results in specific requirements for the selective attention
and the theory-based interpretation of processes of recognition and disregard
in complex teaching situations. This facet of competence has hardly been studied
so far, partly due to the lack of instruments for standardised assessment of this
construct. In the context of this paper, the development and validation of a standardised,
video vignette-based test instrument for the measurement of noticingwith regard
to processes of recognition of prospective PE teachers is presented. The validation
focuses on the content of the test and the internal structure of the instrument
as well as on correlations with related constructs in terms of content. The results
from three consecutive validation studies provide indications of the reliability
and validity of the test score interpretation of the instrument ViProQiS_A. The
findings so far indicate that the standardised measurement of noticingwith regard
to processes of recognitionin inclusive PE could be realized on the basis of the
    test instrument developed here.

text: In control design most control strategies are model-based and require accurate
models to be applied successfully. Due to simplifications and the model-reality-gap
physics-derived models frequently exhibit deviations from real-world-systems.
Likewise, purely data-driven methods often do not generalise well enough and may
violate physical laws. Recently Physics-Guided Neural Networks (PGNN) and physics-inspired
loss functions separately have shown promising results to conquer these drawbacks.
In this contribution we extend existing methods towards the identification of
non-autonomous systems and propose a combined approach PGNN-L, which uses a PGNN
and a physics-inspired loss term (-L) to successfully identify the system's dynamics,
while maintaining the consistency with physical laws. The proposed method is demonstrated
on two real-world nonlinear systems and outperforms existing techniques regarding
    complexity and reliability.

text: "Ultrasonic wire bonding is a solid-state joining process used to form electrical
interconnections in micro and\r\npower electronics and batteries. A high frequency
oscillation causes a metallurgical bond deformation in\r\nthe contact area. Due
to the numerous physical influencing factors, it is very difficult to accurately
capture\r\nthis process in a model. Therefore, our goal is to determine a suitable
feed-forward control strategy for the\r\nbonding process even without detailed
model knowledge. We propose the use of batch constrained Bayesian\r\noptimization
for the control design. Hence, Bayesian optimization is precisely adapted to the
application of\r\nbonding: the constraint is used to check one quality feature
of the process and the use of batches leads to\r\nmore efficient experiments.
Our approach is suitable to determine a feed-forward control for the bonding\r\nprocess
that provides very high quality bonds without using a physical model. We also
show that the quality\r\nof the Bayesian optimization based control outperforms
random search as well as manual search by a user.\r\nUsing a simple prior knowledge
model derived from data further improves the quality of the connection.\r\nThe
Bayesian optimization approach offers the possibility to perform a sensitivity
analysis of the control\r\nparameters, which allows to evaluate the influence
of each control parameter on the bond quality. In summary,\r\nBayesian optimization
applied to the bonding process provides an excellent opportunity to develop a
feedforward\r\ncontrol without full modeling of the underlying physical processes."

text: Approximate computing (AC) has acquired significant maturity in recent years
as a promising approach to obtain energy and area-efficient hardware. Automated
approximate accelerator synthesis involves a great deal of complexity on the size
of design space which exponentially grows with the number of possible approximations.
Design space exploration of approximate accelerator synthesis is usually targeted
via heuristic-based search methods. The majority of existing frameworks prune
a large part of the design space using a greedy-based approach to keep the problem
tractable. Therefore, they result in inferior solutions since many potential solutions
are neglected in the pruning process without the possibility of backtracking of
removed approximate instances. In this paper, we address the aforementioned issue
by adopting Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), as an efficient stochastic learning-based
search algorithm, in the context of automated synthesis of approximate accelerators.
This enables the synthesis frameworks to deeply subsamples the design space of
approximate accelerator synthesis toward most promising approximate instances
based on the required performance goals, i.e., power consumption, area, or/and
delay. We investigated the challenges of providing an efficient open-source framework
that benefits analytical and search-based approximation techniques simultaneously
to both speed up the synthesis runtime and improve the quality of obtained results.
Besides, we studied the utilization of machine learning algorithms to improve
the performance of several critical steps, i.e., accelerator quality testing,
in the synthesis framework. The proposed framework can help the community to rapidly
generate efficient approximate accelerators in a reasonable runtime.

text: 'Platform-based business models underlie the success of many of today’s largest,
fastest-growing, and most disruptive companies. Despite the success of prominent
examples, such as Uber and Airbnb, creating a profitable platform ecosystem presents
a key challenge for many companies across all industries. Although research provides
knowledge about platforms’ different value drivers (e.g., network effects), companies
that seek to transform their current business model into a platform-based one
lack an artifact to reduce knowledge boundaries, collaborate effectively, and
cope with the complexities and dynamics of platform ecosystems. We address this
challenge by developing two artifacts and combining research from variability
modeling, business model dependencies, and system dynamics. This paper presents
a design science research approach to develop the platform ecosystem modeling
language and the platform ecosystem development tool that support researcher and
practitioner by visualizing and simulating platform ecosystems. '

  text:
While increasing digitalization enables multiple advantages for a
reliable operation of technical systems, a remaining challenge in the context
of condition monitoring is seen in suitable consideration of uncertainties affecting
the monitored system. Therefore, a suitable prognostic approach to predict the
remaining useful lifetime of complex technical systems is required. To handle
different kinds of uncertainties, a novel Multi-Model-Particle Filtering-based
prognostic approach is developed and evaluated by the use case of rubber-metal-elements.
These elements are maintained preventively due to the strong influence of uncertainties
on their behavior. In this paper, two measurement quantities are compared concerning
their ability to establish a prediction of the remaining useful lifetime of the
monitored elements and the influence of present uncertainties. Based on three
performance indices, the results are evaluated. A comparison with predictions
of a classical Particle Filter underlines the superiority of the developed Multi-Model-Particle
Filter. Finally, the value of the developed method for enabling condition monitoring
of technical systems related to uncertainties is given exemplary by a comparison
between the preventive and the predictive maintenance strategy for the use case.

text: "Purpose: This study aims at investigating how digitalisation (in the sense
of industry 4.0) has changed the work of farmers and how they experience the changes
from more traditional work to digitalised agriculture. It also investigates what
knowledge farmers require on digitalised farms and how they acquire it. Dairy
farming was used as domain of investigation since it, unlike other industries,
has strongly been affected by digitalisation throughout the last years.\r\n\r\nMethod:
Exploratory interviews with 10 livestock farmers working on digitalised dairy
farms were analysed using qualitative content analysis. A deductive and inductive
coding strategy was used. \r\n\r\nFindings: Farming work has changed from more
manual tasks towards symbol manipulation and data processing. Farmers must be
able to use computers and other digital devices to retrieve and analyse sensor
data that allow them to monitor and control the processes on their farm. For this
new kind of work, farmers require elaborated mental models that link traditional
farming knowledge with knowledge about digital systems, including a strong understanding
of production processes underlying their farm. Learning is mostly based on instructions
offered by manufacturers of the new technology as well as informal and non-formal
learning modes. Even younger farmers report that digital technology was not sufficiently
covered in their (vocational) degrees. In general, farmers emphasises the positive
effects of digitalisation both on their working as well as private life. \r\n\r\nConclusions:
Farmers should be aware of the opportunities as well as the potential drawbacks
of the digitalisation of work processes in agriculture. Providers of agricultural
education (like vocational schools or training institutes) need to incorporate
the knowledge and skills required to work in digitalised environments (e.g., data
literacy) in their syllabi. Further studies are required to assess how digitalisation
changes farming practices and what knowledge as well as skills linked to these
developments are required in the future."

text: "Purpose\r\nThe purpose of this paper is to identify strategic options and
challenges that arise when an industrial firm moves from providing smart service
    toward providing a platform.\r\n\r\nDesign/methodology/approach\r\nThis conceptual
study takes on a multidisciplinary research perspective that integrates concepts,
theories and insights from service management and marketing, information systems
and platform economics.\r\n\r\nFindings\r\nThe paper outlines three platform types
    – smart data platform, smart product platform and matching platform – as strategic
options for firms that wish to evolve from smart service providers to platform
    providers.\r\n\r\nResearch limitations/implications\r\nInvestigating smart service
platforms calls for launching interdisciplinary research initiatives. Promising
research avenues are outlined to span boundaries that separate different research
    disciplines today.\r\n\r\nPractical implications\r\nManaging a successful transition
from providing smart service toward providing a platform requires making significant
investments in IT, platform-related capabilities and skills, as well as implement
new approaches toward relationship management and brand-building.\r\n\r\nOriginality/value\r\nThe
findings described in this paper are valuable to researchers in multiple disciplines
seeking to develop and to justify theory related to platforms in industrial scenarios."

text: How are activation programs for the young unemployed implemented? How do street-level

policies increasingly aim at promoting self-regulation and constructing employable
subjects. Stephan Dahmen explores the practical regulation of biographical transitions

accomplishment of activation work. The study reveals how the critical tensions
of activation policies are continually re-interpreted and adapted to local contingencies
and describes the various organisational technologies used for creating employable

text: 'Challenges in decisions on technical changes are the lack of knowledge about
the expected impact and change propagation. Currently, no literature study contains
a systematic differentiation and evaluation of existing approaches, which is a
prerequisite for practitioners to select a suitable approach. This research aims
at defining differentiation criteria as well as generally applicable requirements
for evaluation. A four-step approach is used: systematic literature review on
approaches for impact analysis of engineering changes (1), categorization and
prioritization of approaches based on reoccuring elements (2), derivation of context
specific requirements for evaluation (3), and evaluation of approaches (4). The
result indicates existing potential of object-oriented modeling approaches.'
