text: There are a number of school choice problems in which students are heterogeneous
according to the number of seats they occupy at the school they are assigned to.
We propose a weighted school choice problem by assigning each student a so-called
weight and formulate the weighted top trading cycles algorithm (WTTC) to find
a matching. The WTTC is strategy-proof and results in a Pareto efficient matching.
While the WTTC is a robust extension of the TTC when weights are introduced, it
is no longer guaranteed that each student gets a seat at a school even if the
overall capacity exceeds the sum of weights. Additionally, the WTTC introduces
a trade-off between weights and priorities as a student with a higher weight has
a disadvantage to be matched to a particular school compared to a student with
the same schools’ priorities but a smaller weight.

text: We consider a model where for-profit providers compete in quality in a price-regulated
market that has been opened to competition, and where the incumbent is located
at the center of the market, facing high costs of relocation. The model is relevant
in markets such as public health care, education and schooling, or postal services.
We find that, when the regulated price is low or intermediate, the entrant strategically
locates towards the corner of the market to keep the incumbent at the low monopoly
quality level. For a high price, the entrant locates at the corner of the market
and both providers implement higher quality compared to a monopoly. In any case,
the entrant implements higher quality than the incumbent provider. Social welfare
is always higher in a duopoly if the cost of quality is low. For higher cost levels
welfare is non-monotonic in the price and it can be optimal to the regulator not
to use its entire budget. Therefore, the welfare effect of entry depends on the
price and the size of the entry cost, and the regulator should condition the decision
to allow entry on an assessment of the entry cost.

text: 'National und international ist in den letzten Jahren ein vergrößertes Interesse
an der Erforschung der Berufswahlmotivation von Studierenden des allgemeinen Lehramtes
zu beobachten. Auch in der Wirtschaftspädagogik hat die empirische Auseinandersetzung
mit den Beweggründen der Studien- und Berufswahl eine gewisse Tradition. Gleichzeitig
muss bemängelt werden, dass die existierenden Untersuchungen einerseits bisher
keine an die nationale und internationale Forschung anschlussfähigen Erhebungsinstrumente
benutzten und andererseits regional nur einzelne Hochschulstandorte berücksichtigten.
Die hier berichtete Studie nimmt sich dieses Forschungsdesiderates an. Hierzu
wurden 879 Studierende der Wirtschaftspädagogik an zwölf deutschen Studienstandorten
mit einem standardisierten Fragebogen, basierend auf dem bereits gut etablierten
FIT-Choice-Ansatz, befragt. Auf Basis dieser Stichprobe werden folgende Forschungsfragen
beantwortet: (1) Inwiefern eignet sich das FIT-Choice-Instrumentarium auch für
Untersuchungen von Studierenden der Wirtschaftspädagogik?, (2) Welche Motive sowie
Vorstellungen vom späteren Beruf liegen der Berufswahl der befragten Studierenden
der Wirtschaftspädagogik zugrunde? und (3) Inwiefern unterscheiden sich die Berufswahlmotive
sowie die Vorstellungen des späteren Berufs der befragten Wirtschaftspädagogikstudierenden
in Hinblick auf das Geschlecht, eine vorherige Berufsausbildung sowie den späteren
Berufswunsch? Die Validierung zeigt, dass sich der FIT-Choice-Ansatz größtenteils
gut eignet, um auch Studierende der Wirtschaftspädagogik zu untersuchen. Darüber
hinaus geben die Befunde vertiefte Einblicke in die Berufswahlmotivation angehender
Wirtschaftspädagog*innen (z. B. hohe Relevanz des polyvalenten Studiencharakters).'

text: "The online fitting of a microscopic traffic simulation model to reconstruct
the current state of a real traffic\r\narea can be challenging depending on the
provided data. This paper presents a novel method based on limited\r\ndata from
sensors positioned at specific locations and guarantees a general accordance of
reality and\r\nsimulation in terms of multimodal road traffic counts and vehicle
speeds. In these considerations, the actual\r\npurpose of research is of particular
importance. Here, the research aims at improving the traffic flow by\r\ncontrolling
the Traffic Light Systems (TLS) of the examined area which is why the current
traffic state and\r\nthe route choices of individual road users are the matter
of interest. An integer optimization problem is derived\r\nto fit the current
simulation to the latest field measurements. The concept can be transferred to
any road traffic\r\nnetwork and results in an observation of the current multimodal
traffic state matching at the given sensor\r\nposition. First case studies show
promosing results in terms of deviations between reality and simulation."

text: In this study, we draw on person–environment fit theory to analyze whether
academic success is best explained by individual abilities subjectively exceeding
situational demands or by abilities matching the demands. Moreover, we disentangled
effects of perceived abilities and subjective person–environment (P-E) fit on
academic success. All in all, 693 teacher education students participated in an
online questionnaire. Students were asked to rate general requirements of their
academic programs (e.g., self-discipline) on a 5-point scale in terms of (1) their
own abilities and (2) the perceived relevance for their studies. P-E fit was determined
by difference scores between abilities and relevance ratings. Academic success
was assessed by grades, perceived performance, and study satisfaction. Data were
analyzed through structural equation modeling and suggest that academic success
is best explained by a match between abilities and demands. Moreover, all three
criteria for academic success were more strongly related to subjective fit than
to subjective abilities.

text: If one of two events is attended to, it will be perceived earlier than a simultaneously
occurring unattended event. Since 150 years, this effect has been ascribed to
the facilitating influence of attention, also known as prior entry. Yet, the attentional
origin of prior-entry effects¹ has been repeatedly doubted. One criticism is that
prior-entry effects might be due to biased decision processes that would mimic
a temporal advantage for attended stimuli. Although most obvious biases have already
been excluded experimentally (e.g. judgment criteria, response compatibility)
and prior-entry effects have shown to persist (Shore, Spence, & Klein, 2001),
many other biases are conceivable, which makes it difficult to put the debate
to an end. Thus, we approach this problem the other way around by asking whether
prior-entry effects can be biased voluntarily. Observers were informed about prior
entry and instructed to reduce it as far as possible. For this aim they received
continuous feedback

text: '"Obwohl Bildungsbenachteiligung seit langem ein Thema der Ungleichheitsforschung
ist, sind die individuellen und strukturellen Ursachen der neuen Bildungsarmut
nur wenig erforscht. Das Buch schließt diese Lücke. Während sich der Wettbewerb
auf dem Arbeitsmarkt verschärft, geraten diejenigen ins Hintertreffen, die den
wachsenden Qualifikationsanforderungen nicht nachkommen. Diese sind von dauerhafter
Exklusion aus dem Arbeitsmarkt bedroht - mit Konsequenzen für die soziale Integration,
die Lebenszufriedenheit, die Gesundheit und die politischen Einstellungen. Dieses
Buch versammelt die aktuelle Forschung über die Ursachen und die Folgen der neuen
Ungleichheiten in der Bildungsgesellschaft. Es beantwortet die Frage, wer heute
zu den ''Bildungsverlieren'' gehört, welche individuellen und gesellschaftlichen
Ursachen Bildungsarmut hat, was es für ein Individuen bedeutet, zu den ''Bildungsverlierern''
