Considering one vortex, we define a time minimization problem which can be analyzed with the technics of geometric optimal control combined with numerical simulations, the geometric frame being the extension of Randers metrics in the punctured plane, with rotational symmetry. Candidates as minimizers are parameterized thanks to the Pontryagin Maximum Principle as extremal solutions of a Hamiltonian vector field. We analyze the time minimal solution to transfer the ship between two points where during the transfer the ship can be either in a strong current region in the vicinity of the vortex or in a weak current region. The analysis is based on a micro-local classification of the extremals using mainly the integrability properties of the dynamics due to the rotational symmetry. The discussion is complex and related to the existence of an isolated extremal (Reeb) circle due to the vortex singularity. The explicit computation of cut points where the extremal curves cease to be optimal is given and the spheres are described in the case where at the initial point the current is weak.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations","doi":"10.1051/cocv/2020058","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"S10","intvolume":" 27","date_updated":"2023-01-16T12:09:22Z","publication_status":"published","author":[{"full_name":"Bonnard, Bernard","last_name":"Bonnard","first_name":"Bernard"},{"full_name":"Cots, Olivier","first_name":"Olivier","last_name":"Cots"},{"id":"95394","full_name":"Wembe Moafo, Boris Edgar","first_name":"Boris Edgar","last_name":"Wembe Moafo"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1292-8119","1262-3377"]},"title":"A Zermelo navigation problem with a vortex singularity","year":"2020","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Bonnard_Cots_Wembe Moafo_2020, title={A Zermelo navigation problem with a vortex singularity}, volume={27}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1051/cocv/2020058\">10.1051/cocv/2020058</a>}, number={S10}, journal={ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations}, publisher={EDP Sciences}, author={Bonnard, Bernard and Cots, Olivier and Wembe Moafo, Boris Edgar}, year={2020} }","chicago":"Bonnard, Bernard, Olivier Cots, and Boris Edgar Wembe Moafo. “A Zermelo Navigation Problem with a Vortex Singularity.” <i>ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations</i> 27 (2020). <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1051/cocv/2020058\">https://doi.org/10.1051/cocv/2020058</a>.","ama":"Bonnard B, Cots O, Wembe Moafo BE. The CSG is an example of a simple game in extensive form where the actual behavior of well-informed players cannot be expected to agree with the clear results of game theoretical reasoning. To explain the disagreement between the theory and the expected behavior, Trockel’s game is proposed as an alternative modelling of the scenario. The existence of more than one equilibrium in Trockel’s game opens a door for reputation building. This study is the first attempt to experimentally test this alternative game with the same purpose. According to my data, there is some evidence in favor of both Equality and Deterrence Hypotheses. However, since the strategies compatible with the Equality Hypothesis are played more frequently, I observe some patterns which share the same intuition with the Deterrence Hypothesis.
","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"1","publication":"Games","keyword":["Applied Mathematics","Statistics","Probability and Uncertainty","Statistics and Probability"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2023-06-09T15:31:17Z","status":"public","user_id":"72752","volume":11,"publisher":"MDPI AG","_id":"45561","citation":{"mla":"Duman, Papatya. “Does Informational Equivalence Preserve Strategic Behavior? Light induced phosphorescence from thermographic phosphors was used to investigate surface temperatures at the stagnation point from a nearly 1D laminar premixed flame burning against a water-cooled ceramic tube. The ceramic tube was coated with 1.1% chromium-doped alumina (ruby) at the impingement area and excited with a green light-emitting diode (LED) to measure the surface temperature. The flame temperature profiles were also measured with a thermocouple of type R (Pt/Pt  +  13% Rh). Effects on variations in cold gas velocity (0.1 m s−1–0.5 m s−1) relative to the flame speed, equivalence ratio (Ф  =  0.85–1.2), burner to impingement surface spacing (H/d  =  0.5–2) and surface curvature are reported. The stagnation point heat fluxes are strongly influenced by the flame stabilization mechanism, which changes from burner to wall stabilization, which also is seen from the measured flame temperature profiles. Increasing the cold gas velocity of the reactants leads to higher stagnation point heat fluxes. In addition, decreasing the distance between the burner and impingement surface increases the heat flux, with higher heat fluxes recorded for a tube compared to a flat plate.
","lang":"eng"}]},{"status":"public","publisher":"Springer Science and Business Media LLC","_id":"45948","page":"797-853","volume":143,"user_id":"100441","citation":{"chicago":"Kovács, Balázs, Buyang Li, and Christian Lubich. “A Convergent Evolving Finite Element Algorithm for Mean Curvature Flow of Closed Surfaces.” <i>Numerische Mathematik</i> 143, no. 4 (2019): 797–853. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00211-019-01074-2\">https://doi.org/10.1007/s00211-019-01074-2</a>.","short":"B. In particular, we show that they are isomorphically mapped by natural pushforwards into generalized common eigenspaces of the algebra of invariant differential operators $D(G,\\sigma )$ on compatible associated vector bundles $\\mathbf W_{\\sigma }$ over $\\mathcal M$. As a consequence of this description, we obtain an exact band structure of the Pollicott–Ruelle spectrum. Further, under some mild assumptions on the representations $\\tau$ and $\\sigma$ defining the bundles $\\mathbf V_{\\tau }$ and $\\mathbf W_{\\sigma }$, we obtain a very explicit description of the generalized common eigenspaces. This allows us to relate classical Pollicott–Ruelle resonances to quantum eigenvalues of a Laplacian in a suitable Hilbert space of sections of $\\mathbf W_{\\sigma }$. Our methods of proof are based on representation theory and Lie theory.
"}],"publication":"International Mathematics Research Notices","issue":"11","department":[{"_id":"548"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["General Mathematics"],"date_created":"2024-04-11T12:33:46Z","status":"public","volume":2021,"user_id":"70575","publisher":"Oxford University Press (OUP)","_id":"53416","page":"8225-8296","citation":{"short":"B. The qualitative in-depth analyses underline the importance of meaning-related vocabulary for making structural relations between the fractions in view explicit. Quantitative analyses of inventoried vocabulary for the four categories “self-initiated by students,” “triggered by teaching material,” “triggered by teacher,” or “triggered by peers” show the relations of collective and autonomous vocabularies from which the students retrieve their lexical means in oral and written language production.
","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-07-26T10:03:33Z","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Education","General Mathematics"],"department":[{"_id":"643"}],"year":"2019","title":"Vocabulary in learning processes towards conceptual understanding of equivalent fractions—specifying students’ language demands on the basis of lexical trace analyses","author":[{"full_name":"Wessel, Lena","last_name":"Wessel","first_name":"Lena","id":"85190"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1033-2170","2211-050X"]},"date_updated":"2024-04-18T09:01:40Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 32","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/s13394-019-00284-z"},{"citation":{"ieee":"R.
