For two different downstream tasks, we use data reported to be gender biased and aggregate it with annotations. First, we propose a new approach to aspect-based sentiment analysis that allows identifying, extracting, and classifying implicit and explicit aspect phrases and their polarity within a single model. The second task we present is grade prediction, where we predict the overall grade of a review on the basis of the review text. For both tasks, we train numerous transformer models and evaluate their performance. The aggregation of sensitive attributes, such as a physician’s gender and migration background, with individual text reviews allows us to measure the performance of the models with respect to these sensitive groups. These group-wise performance measures act as extrinsic bias measures for our downstream tasks. In addition, we translate several gender-specific templates of the intrinsic bias metrics into the German language and evaluate our fine-tuned models. Based on this set of tasks, fine-tuned models, and intrinsic and extrinsic bias measures, we perform correlation analyses between intrinsic and extrinsic bias measures. In terms of sensitive groups and effect sizes, our bias measure results show different directions. Furthermore, correlations between measures of intrinsic and extrinsic bias can be observed in different directions. This leads us to conclude that gender-biased data does not inherently lead to biased models. Other variables, such as template dependency for intrinsic measures and label distribution in the data, must be taken into account as they strongly influence the metric results. Therefore, we suggest that metrics and templates should be chosen according to the given task and the biases to be assessed. However, previous research argued that different fairness criteria are often incompatible. In hiring, AI is used to assess and rank applicants according to their fit for vacant positions. However, various types of bias also exist for AI-based algorithms (e.g., using biased historical data). To reduce AI’s bias and thereby unfair treatment, we conducted a systematic literature review to identify suitable strategies for the context of hiring. We identified nine fundamental articles in this context and extracted four types of approaches to address unfairness in AI, namely pre-process, in-process, post-process, and feature selection. A. By its application, increased reliability as well as reduced risks and costs can be achieved. Based on different approaches, technical systems are monitored and measured data is analyzed to enable condition-based or predictive maintenance. To this end, machine learning approaches are usually implemented to diagnose the health states or predict the health index of the monitored system. However, these trained models are often black-box models, not intuitively explainable for a human. To overcome this shortcoming, a model-based approach based on physics is developed for piezoelectric bending actuators. Such a model enables a transparent representation of the system. Moreover, the model-based approach is extended by a parameter-estimation to account for sudden changes in behavior e. g. caused by occurring cracks.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Sensors and Actuators A: Physical"},{"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["Digital Platform","Platform Strategy","Strategic Management","Platform Life Cycle","Interview Study","Business Model","Business-to-Business","Two-sided Market","Multi-sided Market"],"department":[{"_id":"563"}],"user_id":"66731","_id":"45812","status":"public","type":"conference","conference":{"location":"Ljubljana","name":"ISPIM Innovation Conference"},"title":"Interview Study on Strategy Options for Platform Operation in B2B Markets","date_created":"2023-06-28T11:18:12Z","author":[{"first_name":"Leon","last_name":"Özcan","id":"45137","full_name":"Özcan, Leon"},{"first_name":"Timm","full_name":"Fichtler, Timm","id":"66731","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6034-4399","last_name":"Fichtler"},{"full_name":"Kasten, Benjamin","last_name":"Kasten","first_name":"Benjamin"},{"first_name":"Christian","full_name":"Koldewey, Christian","id":"43136","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7992-6399","last_name":"Koldewey"},{"first_name":"Roman","last_name":"Dumitrescu","id":"16190","full_name":"Dumitrescu, Roman"}],"date_updated":"2023-06-28T11:18:31Z","citation":{"apa":"Özcan, L., Fichtler, T., Kasten, B., Koldewey, C., & Dumitrescu, R. Second, the knowledge is used to compose a development method based on the company’s situation. Third, the development method is enacted to develop a business model. This discovery can be achieved with continuous experimentation, testing different software variants with distinct user groups, and deploying the superior variant for all users. However, existing approaches do not focus on explicit modeling of variants and experiments, which offers advantages such as traceability of decisions and combinability of experiments. Therefore, our vision is the provision of model-driven continuous experimentation, which provides the developer with a framework for structuring the experimentation process. For that, we introduce the overall concept, apply it to the experimentation on component-based software architectures and point out future research questions. In particular, we show the applicability by combining feature models for modeling the software variants, users, and experiments (i.e., model-driven) with MAPE-K for the adaptation (i.e., continuous experimentation) and implementing the concept based on the component-based Angular framework."}],"file":[{"access_level":"open_access","file_name":"ICSA_CR.pdf","file_id":"32322","file_size":183185,"creator":"sego","date_created":"2022-07-04T12:33:18Z","date_updated":"2022-07-04T12:34:52Z","relation":"main_file","content_type":"application/pdf"}],"ddc":["000"],"keyword":["continuous experimentation","model-driven","component-based software architectures","self-adaptation"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"year":"2022","publisher":"IEEE","date_created":"2022-02-15T07:32:10Z","title":"Model-driven Continuous Experimentation on Component-based Software Architectures "},{"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["network management","service management","AI","Monte Carlo Tree Search","model-based","QoS"],"ddc":["004"],"file":[{"content_type":"application/pdf","relation":"main_file","date_created":"2022-01-11T08:39:57Z","creator":"stschn","date_updated":"2022-01-11T08:39:57Z","access_level":"open_access","file_name":"author_version.pdf","file_id":"29222","file_size":528653}],"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Modern services often comprise several components, such as chained virtual network functions, microservices, or\r\nmachine learning functions. Providing such services requires to decide how often to instantiate each component, where to place these instances in the network, how to chain them and route traffic through them. \r\nTo overcome limitations of conventional, hardwired heuristics, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approaches for self-learning network and service management have emerged recently. These model-free DRL approaches are more flexible but typically learn tabula rasa, i.e., disregard existing understanding of networks, services, and their coordination. \r\n\r\nInstead, we propose FutureCoord, a novel model-based AI approach that leverages existing understanding of networks and services for more efficient and effective coordination without time-intensive training. FutureCoord combines Monte Carlo Tree Search with a stochastic traffic model. This allows FutureCoord to estimate the impact of future incoming traffic and effectively optimize long-term effects, taking fluctuating demand and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements into account. Our extensive evaluation based on real-world network topologies, services, and traffic traces indicates that FutureCoord clearly outperforms state-of-the-art model-free and model-based approaches with up to 51% higher flow success ratios."}],"publication":"IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS)","title":"Use What You Know: Network and Service Coordination Beyond Certainty","date_created":"2022-01-11T08:43:26Z","publisher":"IEEE","year":"2022","quality_controlled":"1","file_date_updated":"2022-01-11T08:39:57Z","department":[{"_id":"75"}],"user_id":"35343","_id":"29220","project":[{"_id":"1","name":"SFB 901: SFB 901"},{"name":"SFB 901 - C: SFB 901 - Project Area C","_id":"4"},{"_id":"16","name":"SFB 901 - C4: SFB 901 - Subproject C4"}],"status":"public","type":"conference","conference":{"end_date":"2022-04-29","location":"Budapest","name":"IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS)","start_date":"2022-04-25"},"author":[{"last_name":"Werner","full_name":"Werner, Stefan","first_name":"Stefan"},{"last_name":"Schneider","orcid":"0000-0001-8210-4011","id":"35343","full_name":"Schneider, Stefan Balthasar","first_name":"Stefan Balthasar"},{"first_name":"Holger","id":"126","full_name":"Karl, Holger","last_name":"Karl"}],"date_updated":"2022-01-11T08:44:04Z","oa":"1","citation":{"apa":"Werner, S., Schneider, S. While this comes with many advantages such as a more efficient economy, it has also created more and more opportunities for various adversaries to manipulate communication or eavesdrop on it. The Snowden revelations in 2013 further highlighted the seriousness of these threats. To protect the communication of people, companies, and states from such threats, we require cryptography with strong security guarantees.\r\nDifferent applications may require different security properties from cryptographic schemes. For most applications, however, so-called adaptive security is considered a reasonable minimal requirement of security. Cryptographic schemes with adaptive security remain secure in the presence of an adversary that can corrupt communication partners to respond to messages of the adversaries choice, while the adversary may choose the messages based on previously observed interactions.\r\nWhile cryptography is associated the most with encryption, this is only one of many primitives that are essential for the security of digital interactions. This thesis presents novel identity-based encryption (IBE) schemes and verifiable random functions (VRFs) that achieve adaptive security as outlined above. Moreover, the cryptographic schemes presented in this thesis are proven secure in the standard model. That is without making use of idealized models like the random oracle model.","lang":"eng"}],"file":[{"content_type":"application/pdf","relation":"main_file","success":1,"date_created":"2022-02-07T13:26:05Z","creator":"davnie","date_updated":"2022-02-07T13:26:05Z","access_level":"closed","file_id":"29764","file_name":"de2107.pdf","file_size":1542089}]},{"status":"public","abstract":[{"text":"This article is dedicated to piezoelectric ultrasonic power transducers that differ to well known medical ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus or non destructive testing devices by the level of power in use; typically several tens of up to more than thousand watts are used in a multitude of different applications. As piezoelectric elements transform electrical to mechanical energy and vice versa, equivalent circuit modeling is also described. After that, sample applications are delineated by the matter wherein ultrasound generates unique effects: incredible high pressure level as well in air as in water, micro-bubbles generating temperature peaks for very short time instances in fluids, acoustoplastic effect, enhancement of diffusion and recrystallization in solids, friction manipulation, incremental deformation and micro-cracking of surfaces, or even generation of macroscopic movements in motors. Competence models in which modeling is integrated at least to some extent already exist in some of these disciplines. However, for the core component of graphical modeling, a competence model that illuminates the relevant competences in detail is still lacking. Therefore, we develop a competence model for graphical modeling with the aim to make teaching and especially assessments in the field more competence-oriented. This paper reports on the first two studies conducted to develop and validate the competence model for graphical modeling. In the first study, the structure of the competence model was developed based on theories and approaches of educational science. Competences relevant for graphical modeling were deductively derived from literature and existing university course descriptions using techniques of qualitative content analysis. The result of the first study is a preliminary competence model. In the second study, the preliminary competence model was reviewed by means of an expert rating in the modeling community. The competence model was revised and refined based on these findings and subsequent expert discussions. The main result of the investigation represents the competence model for graphical modeling (CMGM), which includes a total of 74 competence facets at different cognitive process levels in the five content areas of ”model understanding and interpreting”, ”model building and modifying”, ”values, attitudes, and beliefs”, ”metacognitive knowledge and skills”, and ”social-communicative skills”."}],"status":"public"},{"year":"2022","quality_controlled":"1","title":"Responsibility Assignment in Systems Engineering","date_created":"2022-06-27T07:51:41Z","publisher":"Cambridge University Press (CUP)","file":[{"date_updated":"2022-06-27T07:56:35Z","creator":"hthiele","date_created":"2022-06-27T07:56:35Z","file_size":787640,"file_name":"responsibility-assignment-in-systems-engineering.pdf","file_id":"32175","access_level":"closed","content_type":"application/pdf","success":1,"relation":"main_file"}],"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"
Abstract
Increasing system complexity can be controlled by using systems engineering processes. However, developing such business models is a continuous challenging activity where different tasks need to be performed, and business decisions need to be made. Both have to fit the constantly changeable situation in which the business model is developed to reduce the risk of developing ineffective business models with low market penetration. Therefore, a method for developing situation-specific business models is needed. As a solution, we refine the concept of situational method engineering (SME) to business model development. SME, in turn, provides means to construct situation-specific development methods out of fragments from a method repository.\r\n\r\nWe develop a concept for the continuous situation-specific development of business models based on design science. The approach uses the roles of a domain expert, a method engineer, and a business developer together with a repository with method fragments for developing business models and a repository with modeling artifacts for supporting the development. Both repositories are filled by utilizing the experience of domain experts. Out of these repositories, situation-specific development methods for developing business models can be continuously composed based on the changeable situation by the method engineer and enacted by the business developer. We implement it as an open-source tool and evaluate its applicability in an industrial case study of developing a business model for a local event platform. Our results show that situation awareness supports the continuous development of business models."}],"type":"journal_article","publication":"International Journal on Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM) "},{"author":[{"last_name":"Hambach","id":"32850","full_name":"Hambach, Dennis","first_name":"Dennis"}],"oa":"1","date_updated":"2023-04-27T08:59:48Z","doi":"10.3278/HSL2249W","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.wbv.de/shop/Evaluation-eines-digitalen-Fachspezifischen-Chinesischsprachkurses-fuer-Studierende-des-Ingenieurwesens-HSL2249W","open_access":"1"}],"has_accepted_license":"1","publication_status":"published","page":"1-15","citation":{"apa":"Hambach, D. In order to implement the demands of inclusive PE teaching, noticingwith regard to processes of recognition proves to be particularly significant. Due to the relevance of physicality, the design of recognition relationships that encourage pupils' development results in specific requirements for the selective attention and the theory-based interpretation of processes of recognition and disregard in complex teaching situations. This facet of competence has hardly been studied so far, partly due to the lack of instruments for standardised assessment of this construct. In the context of this paper, the development and validation of a standardised, video vignette-based test instrument for the measurement of noticingwith regard to processes of recognition of prospective PE teachers is presented. The validation focuses on the content of the test and the internal structure of the instrument as well as on correlations with related constructs in terms of content. The results from three consecutive validation studies provide indications of the reliability and validity of the test score interpretation of the instrument ViProQiS_A. The findings so far indicate that the standardised measurement of noticingwith regard to processes of recognitionin inclusive PE could be realized on the basis of the test instrument developed here.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research"},{"date_updated":"2024-10-31T10:00:01Z","author":[{"id":"91864","full_name":"Battefeld, Dominik","last_name":"Battefeld","orcid":"0000-0002-5480-0594","first_name":"Dominik"},{"last_name":"Kopp","full_name":"Kopp, Stefan","first_name":"Stefan"}],"conference":{"end_date":"2022-09-23","location":"Trier","name":"8th Workshop on Formal and Cognitive Reasoning (FCR)","start_date":"2022-09-19 "},"has_accepted_license":"1","citation":{"ama":"Battefeld D, Kopp S. Diagnostic reasoning is understood as iterative exploration of medical evidence. This exploration is represented as a partially observable Markov decision process where the state (i.e., the correct diagnosis) is uncertain. Observation likelihoods and belief updates are computed using a Bayesian network which defines the interrelation between medical risk factors, diagnoses and potential findings. The decision problem is solved via partially observable upper confidence bounds for trees in Monte-Carlo planning. We compute a biased diagnostic exploration policy by altering the generated state transition, observation and reward during look ahead simulations. The resulting diagnostic policies reproduce reasoning errors which have only been described informally in the medical literature. We plan to use this formal representation in the future to inversely detect and classify biased reasoning in actual diagnostic trajectories obtained from physicians.","lang":"eng"}],"file":[{"file_size":261528,"file_id":"56846","access_level":"closed","file_name":"paper8.pdf","date_updated":"2024-10-31T09:59:46Z","date_created":"2024-10-31T09:59:46Z","creator":"doba2","success":1,"relation":"main_file","content_type":"application/pdf"}]}]
