text: "The famous $k$-Server Problem covers plenty of resource allocation scenarios,
and several variations have been studied extensively for decades. However, to
the best of our knowledge, no research has considered the problem if the servers
are not identical and requests can express which specific servers should serve
them. Therefore, we present a new model generalizing the $k$-Server Problem by
*preferences* of the requests and proceed to study it in a uniform metric space
for deterministic online algorithms (the special case of paging).\r\n\r\nIn our
model, requests can either demand to be answered by any server (*general requests*)
or by a specific one (*specific requests*). If only general requests appear, the
instance is one of the original $k$-Server Problem, and a lower bound for the
competitive ratio of $k$ applies. If only specific requests appear, a solution
with a competitive ratio of $1$ becomes trivial since there is no freedom regarding
the servers' movements. Perhaps counter-intuitively, we show that if both kinds
of requests appear, the lower bound raises to $2k-1$.\r\n\r\nWe study deterministic
online algorithms in uniform metrics and present two algorithms. The first one
has an adaptive competitive ratio dependent on the frequency of specific requests.
It achieves a worst-case competitive ratio of $3k-2$ while it is optimal when
only general or only specific requests appear (competitive ratio of $k$ and $1$,
respectively). The second has a fixed close-to-optimal worst-case competitive
ratio of $2k+14$. For the first algorithm, we show a lower bound of $3k-2$, while
the second algorithm has a lower bound of $2k-1$ when only general requests appear.\r\n
\ \r\nThe two algorithms differ in only one behavioral rule for each server
that significantly influences the competitive ratio. Each server acting according
to the rule allows approaching the worst-case lower bound, while it implies an
increased lower bound for $k$-Server instances. In other words, there is a trade-off
between performing well against instances of the $k$-Server Problem and instances
containing specific requests. We also show that no deterministic online algorithm
can be optimal for both kinds of instances simultaneously."

text: "The online fitting of a microscopic traffic simulation model to reconstruct
the current state of a real traffic\r\narea can be challenging depending on the
provided data. This paper presents a novel method based on limited\r\ndata from
sensors positioned at specific locations and guarantees a general accordance of
reality and\r\nsimulation in terms of multimodal road traffic counts and vehicle
speeds. In these considerations, the actual\r\npurpose of research is of particular
importance. Here, the research aims at improving the traffic flow by\r\ncontrolling
the Traffic Light Systems (TLS) of the examined area which is why the current
traffic state and\r\nthe route choices of individual road users are the matter
of interest. An integer optimization problem is derived\r\nto fit the current
simulation to the latest field measurements. The concept can be transferred to
any road traffic\r\nnetwork and results in an observation of the current multimodal
traffic state matching at the given sensor\r\nposition. First case studies show
promosing results in terms of deviations between reality and simulation."

text: " We consider a natural extension to the metric uncapacitated Facility Location
Problem (FLP) in which requests ask for different commodities out of a finite
set \\( S \\) of commodities.\r\n Ravi and Sinha (SODA 2004) introduced the model
as the \\emph{Multi-Commodity Facility Location Problem} (MFLP) and considered
it an offline optimization problem.\r\n The model itself is similar to the FLP:
i.e., requests are located at points of a finite metric space and the task of
an algorithm is to construct facilities and assign requests to facilities while
minimizing the construction cost and the sum over all assignment distances.\r\n
\ In addition, requests and facilities are heterogeneous; they request or offer
multiple commodities out of $S$.\r\n A request has to be connected to a set of
facilities jointly offering the commodities demanded by it.\r\n In comparison
to the FLP, an algorithm has to decide not only if and where to place facilities,
but also which commodities to offer at each.\r\n\r\n To the best of our knowledge
we are the first to study the problem in its online variant in which requests,
their positions and their commodities are not known beforehand but revealed over
time.\r\n We present results regarding the competitive ratio.\r\n On the one
hand, we show that heterogeneity influences the competitive ratio by developing
a lower bound on the competitive ratio for any randomized online algorithm of
    \\( \\Omega ( \\sqrt{|S|} + \\frac{\\log n}{\\log \\log n} ) \\) that already
holds for simple line metrics.\r\n Here, \\( n \\) is the number of requests.\r\n
    \ On the other side, we establish a deterministic \\( \\mathcal{O}(\\sqrt{|S|}
    \\cdot \\log n) \\)-competitive algorithm and a randomized \\( \\mathcal{O}(\\sqrt{|S|}
    \\cdot \\frac{\\log n}{\\log \\log n} ) \\)-competitive algorithm.\r\n Further,
we show that when considering a more special class of cost functions for the construction
cost of a facility, the competitive ratio decreases given by our deterministic
    algorithm depending on the function."

text: This paper deals with online customer reviews of local multi-service providers.
While many studies investigate product reviews and online labour markets with
service providers delivering intangible products “over the wire”, we focus on
websites where providers offer multiple distinct services that can be booked,
paid and reviewed online but are performed locally offline. This type of service
providers has so far been neglected in the literature. This paper analyses reviews
and applies sentiment analysis. It aims to gain new insights into local multi-service
providers’ performance. There is a broad literature range presented with regard
to the topics addressed. The results show, among other things, that providers
with good ratings continue to perform well over time. We find that many positive
reviews seem to encourage sales. On average, quantitative star ratings and qualitative
ratings in the form of review texts match. Further results are also achieved in
    this study.

text: Opinion leaders of an investment network can have a significant impact on
capital mar-kets because their investment decisions are adopted by their peers
and trigger large trad-ing cascades, increasing herding behavior and comovement
among stock returns. This paper analyzes the interaction-based relations of traders
from a large social trading plat-form and identifies the driving forces and the
opinion leaders within a large online trading network as the nodes with the highest
centrality and the highest force of infection, respec-tively. Relying on recent
insights from epidemiological research, I maintain that central-ity identifies
the most central traders in the network, while the expected force quantifies the
most influential traders and their spreading power. I study the behavior and charac-teristics
that set central and influential traders apart from other traders. The ability
to identify focal points and their trading behavior within a trading network is
important for investors, investment advisers, and policy makers.

text: Analysts have estimated that more than 80 percent of today’s data is stored
in unstructured form (e.g., text, audio, image, video)—much of it expressed in
rich and ambiguous natural language. Traditionally, to analyze natural language,
one has used qualitative data-analysis approaches, such as manual coding. Yet,
the size of text data sets obtained from the Internet makes manual analysis virtually
impossible. In this tutorial, we discuss the challenges encountered when applying
automated text-mining techniques in information systems research. In particular,
we showcase how to use probabilistic topic modeling via Latent Dirichlet allocation,
an unsupervised text-mining technique, with a LASSO multinomial logistic regression
to explain user satisfaction with an IT artifact by automatically analyzing more
than 12,000 online customer reviews. For fellow information systems researchers,
this tutorial provides guidance for conducting text-mining studies on their own
and for evaluating the quality of others.

text: 'We evaluate the performance of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm on
a class of dynamic routing problems with a single vehicle. In particular we focus
on relating algorithmic performance to the most prominent characteristics of problem
instances. The routing problem considers two types of customers: mandatory customers
must be visited whereas optional customers do not necessarily have to be visited.
Moreover, mandatory customers are known prior to the start of the tour whereas
optional customers request for service at later points in time with the vehicle
already being on its way. The multi-objective optimization problem then results
as maximizing the number of visited customers while simultaneously minimizing
total travel time. As an a-posteriori evaluation tool, the evolutionary algorithm
aims at approximating the related Pareto set for specifically designed benchmarking
instances differing in terms of number of customers, geographical layout, fraction
of mandatory customers, and request times of optional customers. Conceptional
and experimental comparisons to online heuristic procedures are provided.'

text: Along with the increasing popularity of social media and online communities
in many business settings, the notion of online community health has become a
common means by which community managers judge the condition or state of their
communities. It has also been introduced to the literature, yet the concept remains
underspecified and fragmented. In this paper, we work toward a construct conceptualization
of online community health. Through a review of extant literature and dialogue
with specialists in the field, we develop a multi-dimensional construct of online
community health, consisting of seven elements. In writing this paper, we attempt
to foster theory development around new organizational forms by advancing a new

In diesem Umfeld

text: For an environment to be perceived as being smart, contextual information
has to be gathered to adapt the system's behavior and its interface towards the
user. Being a rich source of context information speech can be acquired unobtrusively
by microphone arrays and then processed to extract information about the user
and his environment. In this paper, a system for joint temporal segmentation,
speaker localization, and identification is presented, which is supported by face
identification from video data obtained from a steerable camera. Special attention
is paid to latency aspects and online processing capabilities, as they are important
for the application under investigation, namely ambient communication. It describes
the vision of terminal-less, session-less and multi-modal telecommunication with
remote partners, where the user can move freely within his home while the communication
follows him. The speaker diarization serves as a context source, which has been
integrated in a service-oriented middleware architecture and provided to the application
to select the most appropriate I/O device and to steer the camera towards the
    speaker during ambient communication.

text: In this paper we present a novel vehicle tracking algorithm, which is based
on multi-level sensor fusion of GPS (global positioning system) with Inertial
Measurement Unit sensor data. It is shown that the robustness of the system to
temporary dropouts of the GPS signal, which may occur due to limited visibility
of satellites in narrow street canyons or tunnels, is greatly improved by sensor
fusion. We further demonstrate how the observation and state noise covariances
of the employed Kalman filters can be estimated alongside the filtering by an
application of the Expectation-Maximization algorithm. The proposed time-variant
multi-level Kalman filter is shown to outperform an Interacting Multiple Model
approach while at the same time being computationally less demanding.

text: Voting via the Internet is part of electronic government and electronic democracy.
However, there are many obstacles which have to be overcome, especially legal
restrictions have to be transformed into technical and security solutions. In
the first part the article discusses advantages and disadvantages of Internet
elections, shows different application fields, and presents important international
pilot schemes (political and business ones). in the second part, due to democratic
basic principles, technological security aspects are worked out.
