In today’s dynamic environments—shaped by digital transformation,\r\nevolving provider–user interactions, and shifting societal demands—these approaches face limitations in enabling continuous, context-sensitive innovation. Continuous Value Shaping emerges as a conceptual extension to service systems engineering, promoting more adaptive and co-evolutionary forms of service system development. This study examines how Continuous Value Shaping manifests through a multiple case study of three public sector projects. We identify distinct manifestations and constellations of the concept’s principles that complement classical\r\nSSE practices. As the first empirical exploration of Continuous Value Shaping, the study refines its\r\nconceptual foundation and enhances its accessibility for researchers and practitioners. We conclude with seven empirically derived propositions that inform future service systems engineering initiatives and demonstrate how Continuous Value Shaping supports the dynamic alignment of service systems with societal and systemic demands.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2025-09-16T13:55:52Z","type":"conference","keyword":["Continuous Value Shaping","Service Systems Engineering","Service Science","Public Sector","Service Innovation"],"department":[{"_id":"195"}],"title":"From Engineering to Shaping: A Multiple Case Study on Advancing Service Systems Engineering through Continuous Value Shaping","year":"2026","author":[{"full_name":"Schäfer, Jannika Marie","last_name":"Schäfer","first_name":"Jannika Marie","id":"74374"},{"full_name":"Rajko, Polina","last_name":"Rajko","first_name":"Polina"},{"full_name":"Angelova, Daniela","last_name":"Angelova","first_name":"Daniela"},{"last_name":"Böhmann","first_name":"Tilo","full_name":"Böhmann, Tilo"}],"date_updated":"2026-02-05T06:57:02Z","publication_status":"published","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"mla":"Schäfer, Jannika Marie, et al. “From Engineering to Shaping: A Multiple Case Study on Advancing Service Systems Engineering through Continuous Value Shaping.” <i>Proceedings of the 59th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS 2026)</i>, Association for Information Systems (AIS), IEEE Computer Society Press, University of Hawaii (Manoa), 2026.","ama":"Schäfer JM, Rajko P, Angelova D, Böhmann T. However, the available musical corpora tend to be relatively small and exhibit considerable variation in encoding practices. Aspiring corpus researchers are confronted with a lack of suitable data, which needs to be addressed before they can embark on their proper research. The EarlyMuse Short Term Scientific Mission CORSICA has surveyed the current state of corpus creation and digital editing in early music. Based on this information, it has developed a vision for the future of corpus building in this field, which aims to speed up the production of digital encodings while respecting the autonomy of the encoders and acknowledging their efforts. This is important because much high-quality encoding is carried out outside the field of professional musicology, and engaging citizen scientists could help address the current shortage of research data. The CORSICA team‘s vision is informed not only by a study of the available data, standards and technologies, but also by Human-Computer Interaction, placing human goals and values before the creation of technology and work processes. The core of the vision is that successful corpus creation must be an inclusive endeavour in terms of both technology and human participation. The report concludes with an implementation plan outlining the initial steps required to realise the vision.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"ama":"Wiering F, Bergwall E, van Berchum M, et al. <i>Making Corpus Creation in Early Music Rewarding and Effective: Finding the Optimum Between Standardisation and Autonomy</i>.; 2026. doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18413961\">10.5281/zenodo.18413961</a>","bibtex":"@book{Wiering_Bergwall_van Berchum_Goebl_Van Kranenburg_Lewis_Plaksin_Rodríguez-García_Smith_Visscher_et al._2026, title={Making Corpus Creation in Early Music Rewarding and Effective: Finding the Optimum Between Standardisation and Autonomy}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18413961\">10.5281/zenodo.18413961</a>}, author={Wiering, Frans and Bergwall, Erik and van Berchum, Marnix and Goebl, Werner and Van Kranenburg, Peter and Lewis, David and Plaksin, Anna Viktoria Katrin and Rodríguez-García, Esperanza and Smith, David J. and Visscher, Mirjam and et al.}, year={2026} }","mla":"Wiering, Frans, et al. <i>Making Corpus Creation in Early Music Rewarding and Effective: Finding the Optimum Between Standardisation and Autonomy</i>. 2026, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18413961\">10.5281/zenodo.18413961</a>.","short":"F. Systems theory offers powerful concepts to address challenges of growing system complexity and non-systemic design approaches in information systems. Despite its systemic origins, systems theory remains a peripheral topic in IS. The study addresses this gap by introducing a comprehensive framework of 52 systems-theoretical concepts to guide the design of complex IS artifacts. We synthesize scattered systems knowledge from diverse disciplines to provide a unified level of abstraction for complex information system design. We apply the framework to a use case of business reputation systems to show how the systems lens informs the design of a novel, complex information system. We make three key contributions to the literature. First, the framework provides a common ground for interdisciplinary research in information system design. Second, it offers a unified level of abstraction grounded in systems theory that serves as a coherent basis for artifact design. Third, it demonstrates the potential of systems theory as a foundational justificatory knowledge base. Furthermore, we provide guidance on applying the framework across multiple modes of reasoning, alongside further application guidelines. The study thus serves as a bridge between the body of systems knowledge and contextual design in IS."}],"publication":"Communication of the Association for Information Systems","department":[{"_id":"195"}],"keyword":["Information Systems Research","Systems Theory","System Complexity","System Design","Design Science"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2026-04-02T04:19:09Z","article_type":"review","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-04-02T04:32:05Z","publication_identifier":{"unknown":["1529-3181"]},"author":[{"first_name":"Ulvi","last_name":"Ibrahimli","full_name":"Ibrahimli, Ulvi"},{"full_name":"Hemmrich, Simon","last_name":"Hemmrich","first_name":"Simon"},{"full_name":"Winkelmann, Axel","last_name":"Winkelmann","first_name":"Axel"}],"year":"2026","title":"Bridging Systems Theory and Information Systems: A Framework for Designing Complex Information Systems","alternative_title":["Design Your System"],"doi":"https://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/vol58/iss1/37/","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"ieee":"U. Cli-ents who have not worked with a particular consultancy face considerable risk when they place an order while lacking reliable information about the service quality they can expect. There is a strong link between trust and reputation, as the positive reputation of a consultancy can act as a substitute for a new client’s missing individual experience with the provider, fostering trust in the service quali-ty. Thus, creating, maintaining, and demonstrating a good reputation is of signifi-cant importance for consultancies in a very competitive industry.\r\nTo facilitate trustworthy signals, we design and implement a novel reputation mechanism that carries a monetary weight stored on a blockchain network as an immutable, decentralized, and transparent ledger. Based on an implementation in the Ethereum network and subsequent evaluation, we conclude that the reputation mechanism can contribute to leveling information asymmetry and reducing risk while increasing reputation and trust. The mechanism lends itself to being used in other business-to-business scenarios that suffer from similar information asymmetries.","lang":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","extern":"1","publication":" Advanced Studies in Consulting Research and Digitalization – A Scientific Update on the Digital Transformation of the Consulting Industry. Using service-dominant logic (SDL) as a theoretical lens, we review the distinctive properties of these concepts, introduce the agent concept into SDL, and analyze GenAI’s precise role in service exchange processes. We employ a two-phase research approach: First, we conduct a systematic literature review to derive defining properties of resources, actors, beneficiaries, and agents. We then assess eight contemporary GenAI systems against these properties. Our evidence indicates that GenAI is best understood as an operant resource and, depending on design and context, as an actor and agent. Conversely, GenAI does not qualify as a beneficiary, as it is neither individually capable of phenomenologically experiencing and determining value nor a social system of individuals with such capacities. Our findings propose an update to SDL’s core concepts and understanding, as well as a nuanced conceptual clarification of GenAI’s role, offering guidance for researchers and practitioners seeking to understand and design service interactions that incorporate GenAI."}],"issue":"78","publication":"Electronic Markets","department":[{"_id":"195"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["Generative artificial intelligence","Service-dominant logic","Service science","Actor","Beneficiary","Agent"],"date_created":"2026-09-18T09:52:01Z","file":[{"creator":"dabe","date_created":"2026-10-08T10:49:46Z","access_level":"closed","file_size":1520928,"file_name":"Schäfer_EM_A Service-Dominant Perspective on Generative Artificial Intelligence.pdf","date_updated":"2026-10-08T10:49:46Z","relation":"main_file","success":1,"content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"67433"}]},{"type":"conference","keyword":["data ecosystems","business model","design science","resource orchestration theory","data sharing"],"department":[{"_id":"563"}],"date_created":"2026-06-29T07:40:42Z","quality_controlled":"1","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Data Spaces are establishing themselves as a decentralized alternative for sovereign data sharing across organizations. However, their adoption faces significant challenges, particularly the lack of proven business models that encourage participation and value creation. A data space business model captures value differently than either traditional business models or platform business models. This paper addresses this challenge by developing the Data Space Canvas, a structured framework for designing and aligning business models in data spaces consisting of nine building blocks. The canvas was developed following the design science research methodology. The modular and role-specific structure of the Data Space Canvas facilitates shared understanding and supports business model development across participants. This research contributes a practical tool that enables organizations to conceptualize, communicate, and refine their role and business model in data spaces."}],"publication":"ECIS 2026 Proceedings","citation":{"mla":"Zerbin, Julian, et al. “The Data Space Canvas: A Framework For Structuring Business Models In Data Spaces.” <i>ECIS 2026 Proceedings</i>, 2026.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Zerbin_Koldewey_Dumitrescu_2026, title={The Data Space Canvas: A Framework For Structuring Business Models In Data Spaces}, booktitle={ECIS 2026 Proceedings}, author={Zerbin, Julian and Koldewey, Christian and Dumitrescu, Roman}, year={2026} }","ama":"Zerbin J, Koldewey C, Dumitrescu R. This phenomenon is also evident in sports: A basketball player who performs a pass in one direction whilst orienting the head into the contrary direction (pass with head fake) needs more time to initiate the action as if pass direction and head orientation are the same (pass without head fake).
\r\n
The aim of this study was twofold: First, we present a re-analysis of the data from Böer et al. (Psychological Research 88:523–524, 2024) using mixture effect modelling (Miller, Behavior Research Methods 38:92–106, 2006) explore if fake-production costs manifest continuously (uniform effect) in all participants or if some participants show fake-production costs occasionally but substantially (mixed effect). Second, we collected data of a control group which was analysed with the previous data of the practice group and fitted initiation times (ITs) to an ex-Gaussian distribution.
\r\n
The analysis of mixture effects revealed that most participants exhibited a uniform effect when they didn’t have time to mentally prepare the movement. This pattern was not changed by practice, suggesting fake-production costs can’t be overcome by practice alone without mental preparation time.
\r\n
The analysis of mean ITs revealed improvements in the practice group but not in the control group, independent of the type of pass performed. The distribution analyses complemented these findings as it showed that the improvement in participants’ performance with increasing practice can mainly be attributed to a reduction of the exponential part of the distribution (parameter tau).
","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"2","publication":"Psychological Research","doi":"10.1007/s00426-025-02084-6","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00426-025-02084-6","open_access":"1"}],"article_number":"64","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2025-11-06T13:49:44Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 89","article_type":"original","year":"2025","title":"How does practice modulate fake-production costs in a basketball task? We analyse whether heteroclinic structures can arise in network dynamics with higher-order interactions which describe the nonlinear interactions between three or more units. We find that while commonly analysed model equations such as network dynamics on undirected hypergraphs may be useful to describe local dynamics such as cluster synchronization, they give rise to obstructions that allow to design of heteroclinic structures in phase space. By contrast, directed hypergraphs break the homogeneity and lead to vector fields that support heteroclinic structures.","lang":"eng"}],"file":[{"date_updated":"2024-03-22T09:06:07Z","relation":"main_file","file_size":649155,"access_level":"closed","file_name":"heteroclinic-dynamics-in-network-dynamical-systems-with-higher-order-interactions.pdf","success":1,"content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"52728","creator":"svdg","date_created":"2024-03-22T09:06:07Z"}],"date_created":"2024-03-22T09:04:57Z","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Applied Mathematics","Computational Mathematics","Control and Optimization","Management Science and Operations Research","Computer Networks and Communications"],"department":[{"_id":"101"}],"title":"Heteroclinic dynamics in network dynamical systems with higher-order interactions","year":"2024","author":[{"full_name":"Bick, Christian","last_name":"Bick","first_name":"Christian"},{"id":"97359","full_name":"von der Gracht, Sören","orcid":"0000-0002-8054-2058","first_name":"Sören","last_name":"von der Gracht"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2051-1329"]},"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-03-22T09:11:53Z","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 12","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://academic.oup.com/comnet/article-pdf/12/2/cnae009/56832119/cnae009.pdf","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1093/comnet/cnae009","file_date_updated":"2024-03-22T09:06:07Z","citation":{"ama":"Bick C, von der Gracht S. Unfortunately, studies investigating this alloy showed that additively produced samples exhibit anisotropic microstructures. This anisotropy compromises the mechanical properties and complicates the loading state in the implant. Moreover, the minimum requirements as specified per designated standards such as ISO 5832-11 are not met. The remedy to this problem is performing a conventional heat treatment. As this route requires energy, infrastructure, labor, and expertise, which in turn mean time and money, many of the additive manufacturing benefits are negated. Thus, the goal of this work was to achieve better isotropy by applying only adapted additive manufacturing process parameters, specifically focusing on the build orientations. In this work, samples orientated in 90°, 45°, and 0° directions relative to the building platform were manufactured and tested. These tests included mechanical (tensile and fatigue tests) as well as microstructural analyses (SEM and EBSD). Subsequently, the results of these tests such as fractography were correlated with the acquired mechanical properties. These showed that 90°-aligned samples performed best under fatigue load and that all requirements specified by the standard regarding monotonic load were met.
"}],"publication":"Crystals","issue":"2","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Inorganic Chemistry","Condensed Matter Physics","General Materials Science","General Chemical Engineering"],"department":[{"_id":"158"},{"_id":"321"}],"date_created":"2024-03-22T13:46:37Z","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-03-22T14:22:36Z","intvolume":" 14","year":"2024","title":"Anisotropic Mechanical and Microstructural Properties of a Ti-6Al-7Nb Alloy for Biomedical Applications Manufactured via Laser Powder Bed Fusion","author":[{"id":"35461","full_name":"Milaege, Dennis","last_name":"Milaege","first_name":"Dennis"},{"last_name":"Eschemann","first_name":"Niklas","full_name":"Eschemann, Niklas"},{"id":"48411","last_name":"Hoyer","first_name":"Kay-Peter","full_name":"Hoyer, Kay-Peter"},{"full_name":"Schaper, Mirko","first_name":"Mirko","last_name":"Schaper","id":"43720"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2073-4352"]},"doi":"10.3390/cryst14020117","article_number":"117","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"ieee":"D. This article addresses these challenges and introduces the data awareness framework. It focuses on understanding data-driven technologies and reflecting on the role of data in everyday life. The paper also presents an empirical study on young school students' data awareness. The study involves a teaching unit on data awareness framed by a pretest-posttest design using a questionnaire on students' awareness and understanding of and reflection on data practices of data-driven digital artefacts. The study's findings indicate that the data awareness framework supports students in understanding data practices of data-driven digital artefacts. The findings also suggest that the framework encourages students to reflect on these data practices and think about their daily behaviour. Students learn a model about interactions with data-driven digital artefacts and use it to analyse data-driven applications. This approach appears to enable students to understand these artefacts from everyday life and reflect on these interactions. The work contributes to research on data and AI literacies and suggests a way to support students in developing self-determination and agency during interactions with data-driven digital artefacts.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1108/ils-06-2023-0075","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2398-5348","2398-5348"]},"author":[{"id":"58041","full_name":"Höper, Lukas","first_name":"Lukas","last_name":"Höper"},{"full_name":"Schulte, Carsten","last_name":"Schulte","first_name":"Carsten","id":"60311"}],"year":"2024","title":"The data awareness framework as part of data literacies in K-12 education","intvolume":" 125","article_type":"original","date_updated":"2024-10-11T12:01:06Z","publication_status":"published"}]
