text: "Service systems engineering relies on structured, top-down approaches to
designing and\r\ninnovating service systems. In today’s dynamic environments—shaped
by digital transformation,\r\nevolving provider–user interactions, and shifting
societal demands—these approaches face limitations in enabling continuous, context-sensitive
innovation. Continuous Value Shaping emerges as a conceptual extension to service
systems engineering, promoting more adaptive and co-evolutionary forms of service
system development. This study examines how Continuous Value Shaping manifests
through a multiple case study of three public sector projects. We identify distinct
manifestations and constellations of the concept’s principles that complement
classical\r\nSSE practices. As the first empirical exploration of Continuous Value
Shaping, the study refines its\r\nconceptual foundation and enhances its accessibility
for researchers and practitioners. We conclude with seven empirically derived
propositions that inform future service systems engineering initiatives and demonstrate
how Continuous Value Shaping supports the dynamic alignment of service systems
    with societal and systemic demands."

text: Several early music projects, such as the Stanford Josquin Project, have demonstrated
the potential for attaining valuable new musicological insights using a corpus-based
approach. However, the available musical corpora tend to be relatively small and
exhibit considerable variation in encoding practices. Aspiring corpus researchers
are confronted with a lack of suitable data, which needs to be addressed before
they can embark on their proper research. The EarlyMuse Short Term Scientific
Mission CORSICA has surveyed the current state of corpus creation and digital
editing in early music. Based on this information, it has developed a vision for
the future of corpus building in this field, which aims to speed up the production
of digital encodings while respecting the autonomy of the encoders and acknowledging
their efforts. This is important because much high-quality encoding is carried
out outside the field of professional musicology, and engaging citizen scientists
could help address the current shortage of research data. The CORSICA team‘s vision
is informed not only by a study of the available data, standards and technologies,
but also by Human-Computer Interaction, placing human goals and values before
the creation of technology and work processes. The core of the vision is that
successful corpus creation must be an inclusive endeavour in terms of both technology
and human participation. The report concludes with an implementation plan outlining
the initial steps required to realise the vision.

text: Information Systems (IS) is rooted in systems theory. Systems theory offers
powerful concepts to address challenges of growing system complexity and non-systemic
design approaches in information systems. Despite its systemic origins, systems
theory remains a peripheral topic in IS. The study addresses this gap by introducing
a comprehensive framework of 52 systems-theoretical concepts to guide the design
of complex IS artifacts. We synthesize scattered systems knowledge from diverse
disciplines to provide a unified level of abstraction for complex information
system design. We apply the framework to a use case of business reputation systems
to show how the systems lens informs the design of a novel, complex information
system. We make three key contributions to the literature. First, the framework
provides a common ground for interdisciplinary research in information system
design. Second, it offers a unified level of abstraction grounded in systems theory
that serves as a coherent basis for artifact design. Third, it demonstrates the
potential of systems theory as a foundational justificatory knowledge base. Furthermore,
we provide guidance on applying the framework across multiple modes of reasoning,
alongside further application guidelines. The study thus serves as a bridge between
the body of systems knowledge and contextual design in IS.

text: "Trust between client and consultant is perhaps the most important asset in
con-sulting, as this is a highly intangible knowledge-intensive business that
concerns is-sues of outstanding strategic and operational importance for the customers.
Cli-ents who have not worked with a particular consultancy face considerable risk
when they place an order while lacking reliable information about the service
quality they can expect. There is a strong link between trust and reputation,
as the positive reputation of a consultancy can act as a substitute for a new
client’s missing individual experience with the provider, fostering trust in the
service quali-ty. Thus, creating, maintaining, and demonstrating a good reputation
is of signifi-cant importance for consultancies in a very competitive industry.\r\nTo
facilitate trustworthy signals, we design and implement a novel reputation mechanism
that carries a monetary weight stored on a blockchain network as an immutable,
decentralized, and transparent ledger. Based on an implementation in the Ethereum
network and subsequent evaluation, we conclude that the reputation mechanism can
contribute to leveling information asymmetry and reducing risk while increasing
reputation and trust. The mechanism lends itself to being used in other business-to-business
scenarios that suffer from similar information asymmetries."

text: 'Technical systems are characterized by increasing interdisciplinarity, complexity
and networking. A product and its corresponding production systems require interdisciplinary
multi-objective optimization. Sustainability and recyclability demands increase
said complexity. The efficiency of previously established engineering methods
is reaching its limits, which can only be overcome by systematic integration of
extreme data. The aim of "hybrid decision support" is as follows: Data science
and artificial intelligence should be used to supplement human capabilities in
conjunction with existing heuristics, methods, modeling and simulation to increase
    the efficiency of product creation.'

  text: "
Abstract
\r\n
The execution of incompatible
actions imposes costs on action planning, commonly known as response-response
incompatibility-costs. This phenomenon is also evident in sports: A basketball
player who performs a pass in one direction whilst orienting the head into the
contrary direction (pass with head fake) needs more time to initiate the action
as if pass direction and head orientation are the same (pass without head fake).
\r\n
    \
The aim of this study was twofold: First, we present a re-analysis
of the data from Böer et al. (Psychological Research 88:523–524, 2024) using mixture
effect modelling (Miller, Behavior Research Methods 38:92–106, 2006) explore if
fake-production costs manifest continuously (uniform effect) in all participants
or if some participants show fake-production costs occasionally but substantially
(mixed effect). Second, we collected data of a control group which was analysed
with the previous data of the practice group and fitted initiation times (ITs)
    to an ex-Gaussian distribution.
\r\n
The analysis of
mixture effects revealed that most participants exhibited a uniform effect when
they didn’t have time to mentally prepare the movement. This pattern was not changed
by practice, suggesting fake-production costs can’t be overcome by practice alone
    without mental preparation time.
\r\n
The analysis of
mean ITs revealed improvements in the practice group but not in the control group,
independent of the type of pass performed. The distribution analyses complemented
these findings as it showed that the improvement in participants’ performance
with increasing practice can mainly be attributed to a reduction of the exponential
part of the distribution (parameter tau).
"

text: Heteroclinic structures organize global features of dynamical systems. We
analyse whether heteroclinic structures can arise in network dynamics with higher-order
interactions which describe the nonlinear interactions between three or more units.
We find that while commonly analysed model equations such as network dynamics
on undirected hypergraphs may be useful to describe local dynamics such as cluster
synchronization, they give rise to obstructions that allow to design of heteroclinic
structures in phase space. By contrast, directed hypergraphs break the homogeneity
and lead to vector fields that support heteroclinic structures.

  text:
Through tailoring the geometry and design of biomaterials, additive
manufacturing is revolutionizing the production of metallic patient-specific implants,
e.g., the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy. Unfortunately, studies investigating this alloy showed
that additively produced samples exhibit anisotropic microstructures. This anisotropy
compromises the mechanical properties and complicates the loading state in the
implant. Moreover, the minimum requirements as specified per designated standards
such as ISO 5832-11 are not met. The remedy to this problem is performing a conventional
heat treatment. As this route requires energy, infrastructure, labor, and expertise,
which in turn mean time and money, many of the additive manufacturing benefits
are negated. Thus, the goal of this work was to achieve better isotropy by applying
only adapted additive manufacturing process parameters, specifically focusing
on the build orientations. In this work, samples orientated in 90°, 45°, and 0°
directions relative to the building platform were manufactured and tested. These
tests included mechanical (tensile and fatigue tests) as well as microstructural
analyses (SEM and EBSD). Subsequently, the results of these tests such as fractography
were correlated with the acquired mechanical properties. These showed that 90°-aligned
samples performed best under fatigue load and that all requirements specified
by the standard regarding monotonic load were met.

text: In today's digital world, data-driven digital artefacts pose challenges for
education, as many students lack an understanding of data and feel powerless when
interacting with them. This article addresses these challenges and introduces
the data awareness framework. It focuses on understanding data-driven technologies
and reflecting on the role of data in everyday life. The paper also presents an
empirical study on young school students' data awareness. The study involves a
teaching unit on data awareness framed by a pretest-posttest design using a questionnaire
on students' awareness and understanding of and reflection on data practices of
data-driven digital artefacts. The study's findings indicate that the data awareness
framework supports students in understanding data practices of data-driven digital
artefacts. The findings also suggest that the framework encourages students to
reflect on these data practices and think about their daily behaviour. Students
learn a model about interactions with data-driven digital artefacts and use it
to analyse data-driven applications. This approach appears to enable students
to understand these artefacts from everyday life and reflect on these interactions.
The work contributes to research on data and AI literacies and suggests a way
to support students in developing self-determination and agency during interactions
    with data-driven digital artefacts.

text: The energy turnaround and the shift towards sustainable mobility threaten
the stability of European energy distribution grids due to substantially increasing
load fluctuations and power demand. These challenges can critically impact assets
in the distribution grid—e.g., switchgears—intensifying the need to plan, conduct,
and manage the maintenance of such assets. Predictive maintenance strategies that
analyze assets' current and historical condition data have been discussed as promising
approaches toward that end. However, the extant research focuses on designing
and improving analytical algorithms or information technology (IT) artifacts while
not considering how a maintenance service is cocreated by companies with IT. This
research article posits that IT and service must be aligned closely, presenting
an ensemble artifact comprising a digital industrial platform and a smart service
system for predictive maintenance on the distribution grid. The artifact is evaluated
by conducting a willingness-to-pay analysis with asset operators, documenting
their demand for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance as an integrated
solution, although they still struggle with even getting the condition data of
their assets. Building on these results, we formalize the knowledge in the form
of design principles and implications for managing the maintenance of critical
    assets in the distribution grid.
