  text:
Since suspensions (e.g., in food, cement, or cosmetics industries)
tend to show wall slip, the application of structured measuring surfaces in rheometers
is widespread. Usually, for parallel-plate geometries, the tip-to-tip distance
is used for calculation of absolute rheological values, which implies that there
is no flow behind this distance. However, several studies show that this is not
true. Therefore, the measuring gap needs to be corrected by adding the effective
gap extension δ to the prescribed gap height H in order to obtain
absolute rheological properties. In this paper, we determine the effective gap
extension δ for different structures and fluids (Newtonian, shear thinning,
and model suspensions that can be adjusted to the behavior of real fluids) and
compare the corrected values to reference data. We observe that for Newtonian
fluids a gap- and material-independent correction function can be derived for
every measuring system, which is also applicable to suspensions, but not to shear
thinning fluids. Since this relation appears to be mainly dependent on the characteristics
of flow behaviour, we show that the calibration of structured measuring systems
is possible with Newtonian fluids and then can be transferred to suspensions up
    to a certain particle content.

  text:
Abstract
Different studies have been demonstrated
that the surface integrity of substrate bulk materials to be coated has a significant
impact on the adhesion of thermally sprayed coatings. It is known that the surface
integrity of parts processed by selective laser melting (SLM) differs from those
obtained from bulk materials. Although 316L stainless steel is among the most
investigated material for SLM, the adhesion of thermally sprayed coatings on 316L
stainless steel substrates processed by SLM has not been studied yet. This study
aims at evaluating the effect of various mechanical pre-treatments onto 316L stainless
steel substrates processed by SLM and their effect on the adhesion of high velocity
oxy-fuel (HVOF)-sprayed WC-Co coatings. To differentiate between topographical
effects and residual stress-related phenomena, a stress-relief heat treatment
of the SLM substrates served as a reference throughout the investigations. The
differently pre-treated SLM substrates were investigated with regard to the surface
roughness and residual stresses. For the HVOF-sprayed SLM composites, Vickers
interfacial indentation tests were conducted to assess the resulting coating adhesion.
The findings demonstrated that the HVOF-sprayed WC-Co coatings predominantly exhibit
good adhesion to the SLM 316L substrates. However, it was found that the stress
state in the SLM 316L substrate surface is more likely to affect the adhesion
of the WC-Co coating, while the substrate surface roughness showed a marginal
    effect.

text: The sealing capabilities of RSS do not only depend on the seal itself but
also on the lubricant and the shaft surface. A twist structure on the surface
can cause pumping of the fluid during shaft rotation which can result in leakage.
In this paper a special, new turning method, which consists of at least two turning
steps with feed in reciprocal direction, is presented as an alternative to the
conventional manufacturing process. The goal is to create a surface structure
with a net pumping rate of zero. Shafts turned with the new proposed method are
compared to turned shafts from previous investigations [1]. Criteria for the comparison
are the surface pumping rate, leakage and wear behavior of the surface.
