text: 'New technologies and materials carry significant potential for sustainable
production and use of products. As an example, Additive Manufacturing technologies
and materials promise lightweight design and energy efficient use of parts. Exhausting
the full potential requires: a) consideration of uncertainties with respect to
future capabilities, and b) upgradeable design guidelines to cover advancements
consistently. The proposed approach merges concepts of Design-for-X with foresight
algorithms of Scenario-Technique to derive actionable knowledge. It is validated
by an application in the field of Additive Manufacturing, namely Metal Fused Deposition
Modelling. Engineers benefit from the intuitive access to heterogeneous types
    of sustainability related information.'

  text:
Abstract
Graffiti is an urban phenomenon that
is increasingly attracting the interest of the sciences. To the best of our knowledge,
no suitable data corpora are available for systematic research until now. The
Information System Graffiti in Germany project (Ingrid) closes
this gap by dealing with graffiti image collections that have been made available
to the project for public use. Within Ingrid, the graffiti
images are collected, digitized and annotated. With this work, we aim to support
the rapid access to a comprehensive data source on Ingrid targeted
especially by researchers. In particular, we present IngridKG,
an RDF knowledge graph of annotated graffiti, abides by the Linked Data and FAIR
principles. We weekly update IngridKG by augmenting the new
annotated graffiti to our knowledge graph. Our generation pipeline applies RDF
data conversion, link discovery and data fusion approaches to the original data.
The current version of IngridKG contains 460,640,154 triples
and is linked to 3 other knowledge graphs by over 200,000 links. In our use case
studies, we demonstrate the usefulness of our knowledge graph for different applications.

text: "This study investigates the conditions under which tax rate changes accelerate
risky investments.\r\nWhile tax rate increases are often expected to harm investment,
analytical\r\nstudies find tax rate increases may foster investment under flexibility. We
    design a theorybased\r\nexperimentwith a binomial random walk and entry–exit flexibility.We
find accelerated\r\ninvestment upon tax rate increases irrespective of an exit
option, but no corresponding\r\nresponse to tax cuts. This asymmetry may be due
to tax salience and mechanisms\r\nfrom irreversible choice under uncertainty.
Given this evidence of unexpected tax-reform\r\neffects, tax policymakers should
    carefully consider behavioral aspects."

  text: "
Abstract
\r\n
The defining
feature of active particles is that they constantly propel themselves by locally
converting chemical energy into directed motion. This active self-propulsion prevents
them from equilibrating with their thermal environment (e.g. an aqueous solution),
thus keeping them permanently out of equilibrium. Nevertheless, the spatial dynamics
of active particles might share certain equilibrium features, in particular in
the steady state. We here focus on the time-reversal symmetry of individual spatial
trajectories as a distinct equilibrium characteristic. We investigate to what
extent the steady-state trajectories of a trapped active particle obey or break
this time-reversal symmetry. Within the framework of active Ornstein–Uhlenbeck
particles we find that the steady-state trajectories in a harmonic potential fulfill
path-wise time-reversal symmetry exactly, while this symmetry is typically broken
    in anharmonic potentials.
"

  text:
While increasing digitalization enables multiple advantages for a
reliable operation of technical systems, a remaining challenge in the context
of condition monitoring is seen in suitable consideration of uncertainties affecting
the monitored system. Therefore, a suitable prognostic approach to predict the
remaining useful lifetime of complex technical systems is required. To handle
different kinds of uncertainties, a novel Multi-Model-Particle Filtering-based
prognostic approach is developed and evaluated by the use case of rubber-metal-elements.
These elements are maintained preventively due to the strong influence of uncertainties
on their behavior. In this paper, two measurement quantities are compared concerning
their ability to establish a prediction of the remaining useful lifetime of the
monitored elements and the influence of present uncertainties. Based on three
performance indices, the results are evaluated. A comparison with predictions
of a classical Particle Filter underlines the superiority of the developed Multi-Model-Particle
Filter. Finally, the value of the developed method for enabling condition monitoring
of technical systems related to uncertainties is given exemplary by a comparison
between the preventive and the predictive maintenance strategy for the use case.

text: "\r\nPredictive Maintenance as a desirable maintenance strategy in industrial
applications relies on suitable condition monitoring solutions to reduce costs
and risks of the monitored technical systems. In general, those solutions utilize
model-based or data-driven methods to diagnose the current state or predict future
states of monitored technical systems. However, both methods have their advantages
and drawbacks. Combining both methods can improve uncertainty consideration and
accuracy. Different combination approaches of those hybrid methods exist to exploit
synergy effects. The choice of an appropriate approach depends on different requirements
and the goal behind the selection of a hybrid approach.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIn this
work, the hybrid approach for estimating remaining useful lifetime takes potential
uncertainties into account. Therefore, a data-driven estimation of new measurements
is integrated within a model-based method. To consider uncertainties within the
system, a differentiation between different system behavior is realized throughout
diverse states of degradation.\r\n\r\nThe developed hybrid prediction approach
bases on a particle filtering method combined with a machine learning method,
to estimate the remaining useful lifetime of technical systems. Particle filtering
as a Monte Carlo simulation technique is suitable to map and propagate uncertainties.
Moreover, it is a state-of-the-art model-based method for predicting remaining
useful lifetime of technical systems. To integrate uncertainties a multi-model
particle filtering approach is employed. In general, resampling as a part of the
particle filtering approach has the potential to lead to an accurate prediction.
However, in the case where no future measurements are available, it may increase
the uncertainty of the prediction. By estimating new measurements, those uncertainties
are reduced within the data-driven part of the approach. Hence, both parts of
the hybrid approach strive to account for and reduce uncertainties.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nRubber-metal-elements
are employed as a use-case to evaluate the developed approach. Rubber-metal-elements,
which are used to isolate vibrations in various systems, such as railways, trucks
and wind turbines, show various uncertainties in their behavior and their degradation.
Those uncertainties are caused by diverse inner and outer factors, such as manufacturing
influences and operating conditions. By expert knowledge the influences are described,
analyzed and if possible reduced. However, the remaining uncertainties are considered
within the hybrid prediction method. Relative temperature is the selected measurand
to describe the element’s degradation. In lifetime tests, it is measured as the
difference between the element’s temperature and the ambient temperature. Thereby,
the influence of the ambient temperature on the element’s temperature is taken
into account. Those elements show three typical states of degradation that are
identified within the temperature measurements. Depending on the particular state
of degradation a new measurement is estimated within the hybrid approach to reduce
potential uncertainties.\r\n\r\nFinally, the performance of the developed hybrid
method is compared to a model-based method for estimating the remaining useful
lifetime of the same elements. Suitable performance indices are implemented to
underline the differences between the results."

  text:
The purpose of this study is to experimentally test Trockel’s game,
which is a modelling of the classical Chain Store Game (CSG), and determine whether
one of the two theories of Equality and Deterrence may better account for the
observed behavior. The CSG is an example of a simple game in extensive form where
the actual behavior of well-informed players cannot be expected to agree with
the clear results of game theoretical reasoning. To explain the disagreement between
the theory and the expected behavior, Trockel’s game is proposed as an alternative
modelling of the scenario. The existence of more than one equilibrium in Trockel’s
game opens a door for reputation building. This study is the first attempt to
experimentally test this alternative game with the same purpose. According to
my data, there is some evidence in favor of both Equality and Deterrence Hypotheses.
However, since the strategies compatible with the Equality Hypothesis are played
more frequently, I observe some patterns which share the same intuition with the
    Deterrence Hypothesis.

text: Cloud computing promises the flexible delivery of computing services in a
pay-as-you-go manner. It allows customers to easily scale their infrastructure
and save on the overall cost of operation. However Cloud service offerings can
only thrive if customers are satisfied with service performance. Allow-ing instantaneous
access and flexible scaling while maintaining the service levels and offering
competitive prices poses a significant challenge to Cloud Computing providers.
Furthermore services will remain available in the long run only if this business
generates a stable revenue stream. To address these challenges we introduce novel
policy-based service admission control mod-els that aim at maximizing the revenue
of Cloud providers while taking in-formational uncertainty regarding resource
requirements into account. Our evaluation shows that policy-based approaches statistically
significantly out-perform first come first serve approaches, which are still state
of the art. Furthermore the results give insights in how and to what extent uncertainty
has a negative impact on revenue.

text: 'New waves of consumer-centric applications, such as voice search and voice
interaction with mobile devices and home entertainment systems, increasingly require
automatic speech recognition (ASR) to be robust to the full range of real-world
noise and other acoustic distorting conditions. Despite its practical importance,
however, the inherent links between and distinctions among the myriad of methods
for noise-robust ASR have yet to be carefully studied in order to advance the
field further. To this end, it is critical to establish a solid, consistent, and
common mathematical foundation for noise-robust ASR, which is lacking at present.
This article is intended to fill this gap and to provide a thorough overview of
modern noise-robust techniques for ASR developed over the past 30 years. We emphasize
methods that are proven to be successful and that are likely to sustain or expand
their future applicability. We distill key insights from our comprehensive overview
in this field and take a fresh look at a few old problems, which nevertheless
are still highly relevant today. Specifically, we have analyzed and categorized
a wide range of noise-robust techniques using five different criteria: 1) feature-domain
vs. model-domain processing, 2) the use of prior knowledge about the acoustic
environment distortion, 3) the use of explicit environment-distortion models,
    4) deterministic vs. uncertainty processing, and 5) the use of acoustic models
trained jointly with the same feature enhancement or model adaptation process
used in the testing stage. With this taxonomy-oriented review, we equip the reader
with the insight to choose among techniques and with the awareness of the performance-complexity
tradeoffs. The pros and cons of using different noise-robust ASR techniques in
practical application scenarios are provided as a guide to interested practitioners.
The current challenges and future research directions in this field is also carefully
    analyzed.'

text: The accuracy of automatic speech recognition systems in noisy and reverberant
environments can be improved notably by exploiting the uncertainty of the estimated
speech features using so-called uncertainty-of-observation techniques. In this
paper, we introduce a new Bayesian decision rule that can serve as a mathematical
framework from which both known and new uncertainty-of-observation techniques
can be either derived or approximated. The new decision rule in its direct form
leads to the new significance decoding approach for Gaussian mixture models, which
results in better performance compared to standard uncertainty-of-observation
techniques in different additive and convolutive noise scenarios.

text: Attended stimuli are perceived as occurring earlier than unattended stimuli.
This phenomenon of prior entry is usually identified by a shift in the point of
subjective simultaneity (PSS) in temporal order judgements (TOJs). According to
its traditional psychophysical interpretation, the PSS coincides with the perception
of simultaneity. This assumption is, however, questionable. Technically, the PSS
represents the temporal interval between two stimuli at which the two alternative
TOJs are equally likely. Thus it also seems possible that observers perceive not
simultaneity, but uncertainty of temporal order. This possibility is supported
by prior-entry studies, which find that perception of simultaneity is not very
likely at the PSS. The present study tested the percept at the PSS in prior entry,
using peripheral cues to orient attention. We found that manipulating attention
caused varying temporal perceptions around the PSS. On some occasions observers
perceived the two stimuli as sim

text: The paper presents a framework to optimise the design of work roll based on
the cooling performance. The framework develops meta-models from a set of finite
element analyses (FEA) of the roll cooling. A design of experiment technique is
used to identify the FEA runs. The research also identifies sources of uncertainties
in the design process. A robust evolutionary multi-objective evaluation technique
is applied to the design optimisation in constrained problems with real life uncertainty.
The approach handles uncertainties associated both with design variables and fitness
functions. Constraints violation within the neighbourhood of a design is considered
as part of a measurement for degree of feasibility and robustness of a solution.

text: We give asymptotic upper and lower bounds for the number of squarefree d (0
    < d ≤ X) such that the equation x² − dy²= −1 is solvable. These estimates, as
usual, can equivalently be interpreted in terms of real quadratic fields with
a fundamental unit with norm −1 and give strong evidence in the direction of a
    conjecture due to P. Stevenhagen.

text: In this paper, we derive an uncertainty decoding rule for automatic speech
recognition (ASR), which accounts for both corrupted observations and inter-frame
correlation. The conditional independence assumption, prevalent in hidden Markov
model-based ASR, is relaxed to obtain a clean speech posterior that is conditioned
on the complete observed feature vector sequence. This is a more informative posterior
than one conditioned only on the current observation. The novel decoding is used
to obtain a transmission-error robust remote ASR system, where the speech capturing
unit is connected to the decoder via an error-prone communication network. We
show how the clean speech posterior can be computed for communication links being
characterized by either bit errors or packet loss. Recognition results are presented
for both distributed and network speech recognition, where in the latter case
    common voice-over-IP codecs are employed.

text: In this paper, we propose an enhanced error concealment strategy at the server
side of a distributed speech recognition (DSR) system, which is fully compatible
with the existing DSR standard. It is based on a Bayesian approach, where the
a posteriori probability density of the error-free feature vector is computed,
given all received feature vectors which are possibly corrupted by transmission
errors. Rather than computing a point estimate, such as the MMSE estimate, and
plugging it into the Bayesian decision rule, we employ uncertainty decoding, which
results in an integration over the uncertainty in the feature domain. In a typical
scenario the communication between the thin client, often a mobile device, and
the recognition server spreads across heterogeneous networks. Both bit errors
on circuit-switched links and lost data packets on IP connections are mitigated
by our approach in a unified manner. The experiments reveal improved robustness
both for small- and large-vocabulary recognition tasks.
