text: When humans interact with artificial intelligence (AI), one desideratum is
appropriate trust. Typically, appropriate trust encompasses that humans trust
AI except for instances in which they either explicitly notice AI errors or are
suspicious that errors could be present. So far, appropriate trust or related
notions have mainly been investigated by assessing trust and reliance. In this
contribution, we argue that these assessments are insufficient to measure the
complex aim of appropriate trust and the related notion of healthy distrust. We
introduce and test the perspective of covert visual attention as an additional
indicator for appropriate trust and draw conceptual connections to the notion
of healthy distrust. To test the validity of our conceptualization, we formalize
visual attention using the Theory of Visual Attention and measure its properties
that are potentially relevant to appropriate trust and healthy distrust in an
image classification task. Based on temporal-order judgment performance, we estimate
participants' attentional capacity and attentional weight toward correct and incorrect
mock-up AI classifications. We observe that misclassifications reduce attentional
capacity compared to correct classifications. However, our results do not indicate
that this reduction is beneficial for a subsequent judgment of the classifications.
The attentional weighting is not affected by the classifications' correctness
but by the difficulty of categorizing the stimuli themselves. We discuss these
results, their implications, and the limited potential for using visual attention
as an indicator of appropriate trust and healthy distrust.

text: The joining of dissimilar materials, such as steel and aluminum, entails significant
challenges during thermal curing processes due to differing coefficients of thermal
expansion. This study addresses the formation of “viscous fingering” instabilities
in structural adhesive joints, which are induced by thermally driven relative
displacements during the liquid phase of the adhesive. Using a component-like
specimen “bridge specimen,” the dependency of this phenomenon on process temperature
and structural stiffness (rivet distance) was characterized. Experimental results
reveal that while the relative displacement scales cubically with the free buckling
length, the resulting adhesive area reduction follows an exponential trend, leading
to a loss of effective bond area of up to 79%, which significantly compromises
the joint strength in automotive applications. To predict these process-induced
defects, a thermo-chemo-viscoelastic-viscoplastic adhesive model implemented in
LS-DYNA was applied. The model combines curing kinetics, viscoelastic relaxation,
and pressure-dependent plasticity and features a geometric damage parameter (D)
that captures the adhesive area reduction caused by viscous fingering as an exponential
function of the accumulated normal strain in the liquid phase. This damage parameter,
calibrated on base-specimen level, was transferred to the component geometry.
The simulation demonstrated high predictive accuracy with a maximum deviation
of the adhesive area reduction of 3.1% compared to experimental data. This validates
the model’s capability to predict manufacturing-induced damage in complex hybrid
structures solely based on thermal boundary conditions.

text: Several early music projects, such as the Stanford Josquin Project, have demonstrated
the potential for attaining valuable new musicological insights using a corpus-based
approach. However, the available musical corpora tend to be relatively small and
exhibit considerable variation in encoding practices. Aspiring corpus researchers
are confronted with a lack of suitable data, which needs to be addressed before
they can embark on their proper research. The EarlyMuse Short Term Scientific
Mission CORSICA has surveyed the current state of corpus creation and digital
editing in early music. Based on this information, it has developed a vision for
the future of corpus building in this field, which aims to speed up the production
of digital encodings while respecting the autonomy of the encoders and acknowledging
their efforts. This is important because much high-quality encoding is carried
out outside the field of professional musicology, and engaging citizen scientists
could help address the current shortage of research data. The CORSICA team‘s vision
is informed not only by a study of the available data, standards and technologies,
but also by Human-Computer Interaction, placing human goals and values before
the creation of technology and work processes. The core of the vision is that
successful corpus creation must be an inclusive endeavour in terms of both technology
and human participation. The report concludes with an implementation plan outlining
the initial steps required to realise the vision.

text: This study proposes a fault diagnostics methodology that addresses the challenges
posed by highly imbalanced datasets typical of railway applications, where faulty
conditions constitute the minority class. Fault diagnostics is performed from
the component level upward, considering each sensor’s proximity to its respective
critical component. Advanced signal analysis, feature engineering, and automated
data-driven model generation techniques were explored to achieve comprehensive
diagnostics, such that the model development process accounts for variations in
the operating conditions and differing levels of information availability. The
proposed methodology is evaluated on datasets from the MONOCAB, for scenarios
with limited faulty instances and on the Beijing 2024 IEEE PHM Conference data
challenge, which focused on fault diagnostics of railway systems under various
    fault modes and operating conditions.

text: This study explores undergraduate sociology students’ perceptions of conventional
pedagogical practices and their aspirations for an ideal learning environment
at a regional German university. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 41
students enrolled between 2021 and 2023, the research investigates how students
envision the study of sociology and their preferences for pedagogical approaches.
The findings reveal that students’ diverse visions converge on common themes aligning
with engaged pedagogy and critical pedagogy principles. Students express a desire
for learning environments that challenge existing forms of domination, promote
active knowledge acquisition, and foster mutual respect. They seek meaningful
knowledge that connects theory to practice, facilitates personal growth, and empowers
them to effect social change. The study contributes to ongoing debates about pedagogical
practices in higher education, especially in sociology, by providing empirical
evidence of students’ subjective experiences and desires, emphasising the need
for engaged pedagogy that nurtures holistic development and values students’ agency.

text: The degree of crosslinking in unidirectional prepreg materials was investigated
using differential scanning calorimetry to assess their curing behavior and thermal
characteristics. To complement these measurements with a non-destructive, in-situ
method, the propagation properties of guided acoustic waves in cured carbon fibre-reinforced
epoxy plates were analysed. Correlations between the degree of crosslinking and
acoustically determined mechanical properties were drawn to enable a future non-destructive
    evaluation approach.

text: "Through the Reformation, the Bible and education gained central importance.
The Reformation principle that the Bible as Holy Scripture should be the only
basis and norm for faith (sola Scriptura) emphasized the importance of reading
and writing. The Reformers wanted children and laypeople to become independent
church members. Teaching material was needed for school lessons, and study Bibles
with pictures were produced; Martin Luther’s Little Prayer Book (1529) served
as a prototype. The Lay Bible (1540) by Wendelin Rihel was a continuation of Luther’s
Little Prayer Book. This innovative period laid the foundation for later children’s
    Bible traditions.\r\n"

text: ' Although Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ (Q 112) is one of the shortest sūrahs of the Qurʾān,
it has led to an extensive commentary on its structure and content in Muslim exe-getical
literature and in Western scholarship. This article takes the recent attempt to
contextualize the sūrah in Western scholarship as a starting point and proposes
new evidence for the nature of the religious milieu that shaped its form and content.
It posits several “intertexts” of creedal expressions, which shed light on the
    discursive nature of the sūrah.'

text: Children’s information-related internet use positively affects their acquisition
of computer- and information-related skills. Nevertheless, this use still occurs
predominantly in the family context. Parents’ support of their children’s internet
use can motivate them to use the internet for information-related purposes. However,
while parents’ support seems to be important, the quantity and quality of parental
support have been shown to have different associations with children’s motivation.
Thus, the goal of the current study was to examine the relationship between parents’
support (quantity and quality), children’s motivation to engage in information-related
internet use, and children’s actual information-related internet use (practical
and school- or learning-related use) using structural equation modeling. In addition,
we examined the mediating effects of children’s motivation. Specifically, 492
12-year-old German children answered a paper-and-pencil questionnaire. We found
positive associations between the quantity and quality of parents’ support and
children’s intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, while only structure-giving support
was found to be related to children’s intrinsic motivation. The quantity of support
was directly related to children’s school- or learning-related use, while intrinsic
motivation was associated with both forms of information-related internet use.
Furthermore, we confirmed that children’s motivation is an important mediator
in this context. The implications of these findings for parents and children are
    considered.

text: "In our paper, we present a study in which we investigate which strategies
pre-service teachers (PSTs) use to find and, if necessary, reject possible candidates
for congruence theorems for quadrilaterals. This study was conducted before the
PTSs attended a university geometry course. In this way, statements about learning
prerequisites can be made. For the study, we analyzed group discussions of PSTs
to identify typical approaches and evaluate them from a mathematical perspective.
The results can be considered for the further development of courses for PSTs
    and generate hypotheses\r\nfor further research."

text: 'Paying taxes is a field of economic activity that has always been highly
morally charged: the question of who pays how much or can avoid or evade the prescribed
payments is always closely related to debate about a fair societal distribution
of burdens. In the process of moralisation, therefore, faith communities such
as the Catholic Church also repeatedly seized the floor to propagate certain norms.
The article examines the contributions of theologians from Spain, the USA and
West Germany in the 1940s and 1950s. It concludes that the norms of taxation they
propagated differed greatly depending on the institutional and economic frameworks
within which they operated. The analysis proves taxation to be a field of economic
action and societal dispute where economics and morality are indissolubly interconnected.'
