For this purpose, systematic tensile tests are carried out for both materials. In addition, a statistical evaluation is performed to determine the design-relevant strength characteristics with a survival probability Ps of 97.5 % for both materials in the as-built and heat-treated condition.\r\nPipe specimens are manufactured, half of which are heat treated, geometrically measured and then subjected to a burst pressure test to experimentally determine the failure-critical internal pressure. These results are compared with calculated burst pressures. These can include operating vehicles that differ regarding their characteristics and application profile from privately owned cars in motorized individual transport. Studies on life cycle assessment and life cycle engineering of vehicle lightweight structures are mainly limited to these privately owned cars and the impact category of climate change. In this paper, a method for life cycle assessment-based engineering of lightweight structures in vehicles for various mobility system applications, including on-demand mobility services, is developed. The method enables the holistic life cycle assessment of lightweight structures in different mobility system applications considering parameter changes at the upstream products, component, subsystem, vehicle and mobility system levels, as well as the integration of results into engineering activities. A case study is used to show that the vehicle and mobility system application of lightweight structures can significantly influence their environmental impacts and the selection of ecologically preferable product designs. The application in vehicles for on-demand mobility services can lead to an increase in absolute use stage energy demand and environmental impacts compared to applications in privately owned vehicles for motorized individual transport. However, normalized to the transport performance provided, the lifecycle environmental impacts of structural components in vehicles for on-demand mobility services can be lower than in vehicles for motorized individual transport. The paper contributes methodically and with quantitative results to improved decision making in life cycle engineering activities for lightweight structures in mobility system applications."}],"date_created":"2025-08-06T06:53:27Z","publisher":"Elsevier BV","title":"Life cycle engineering of lightweight structures in vehicles for on-demand mobility services","quality_controlled":"1","year":"2025"},{"keyword":["teacher education","physics","assessment","pre-service teachers"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"62752","user_id":"4245","department":[{"_id":"33"}],"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"In higher education, assessment/examination procedures should be designed to form a coherent learning process that is aligned with the intended learning objectives and planned learning activities. However, in academic teacher education programmes often use assessment formats that are not well aligned with the demands of teachers' actual professional practice. Performance-based assessments can offer an alternative, for example in the form of role-play-based simulations with trained actors representing typical professional activities in environments of reduced complexity. We have developed such a performance-based assessment format for physics teacher education, analogous to the Objective Structured Teaching Examinations (OSTE) approach used in medical education. The OSTE prototype consists of seven short simulative assessments, reflecting four areas of competence (Instruction, Assessment, Pedagogy and Innovation) that form a 90-minute examination course. In order to investigate prospective physics teachers' perceptions of such an assessment format in terms of its suitability as a summative examination procedure, we piloted the OSTE prototype with N = 34 physics student teachers from three German universities using short questionnaires. The results show that participants perceived the OSTE prototype as authentic and relevant, but they also highlight the need for adequate new learning opportunities to prepare for such simulative examinations to be integrated into teacher education programmes."}],"status":"public","type":"conference","title":"Prospective Physics Teachers' Perceptions of an Objective Structured Teaching Examination (OSTE)","conference":{"name":"ESERA 2025 Conference","start_date":"2025-08-25","end_date":"2025-08-30","location":"Copenhagen"},"date_updated":"2025-12-03T08:56:29Z","author":[{"first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Vogelsang","orcid":"0000-0002-5804-1855","id":"4245","full_name":"Vogelsang, Christoph"},{"first_name":"Lea","last_name":"Grotegut","full_name":"Grotegut, Lea","id":"34280"},{"id":"89529","full_name":"Wotschel, Philipp","last_name":"Wotschel","first_name":"Philipp"},{"id":"89329","full_name":"Janzen, Thomas","orcid":"0009-0003-1941-166X","last_name":"Janzen","first_name":"Thomas"}],"date_created":"2025-12-03T08:43:26Z","place":"Copenhagen","year":"2025","citation":{"ama":"Vogelsang C, Grotegut L, Wotschel P, Janzen T. This study presents a comparative analysis of two physically based debonding methods: the established hot-air process and a cryogenic cold process based on liquid nitrogen (LN2). The primary objective is to assess the ecological impact and process-related sustainability of both approaches.\r\nExperimental investigations were conducted on a component-representative triple-sheet structure that simulates common automotive flange joints. Thermal input was applied either by convective heating using a hot air gun or by direct cooling through a contact-based LN2 tool. The resulting temperature profiles were recorded using spatially distributed thermocouples. Subsequently, the outer panel was selectively debonded to replicate a repair scenario, and the mechanical integrity of the remaining adhesive joint was evaluated through Mode I testing of L-shaped specimens. Process data served as input for an Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) according to DIN EN ISO 14040.\r\nThe cryogenic method achieved a 40% reduction in carbon footprint compared to the hot-air process (0.337 kg vs. 0.559 kg CO2-equivalents), primarily due to its shorter process time and more efficient heat transfer. While the hot-air method’s impact is mainly driven by electrical energy use, that of the cold method stems from cryogenic media consumption. Notwithstanding certain disadvantages in specific impact categories, the LN2-based process exhibits a superior overall ecological performance and signifies a promising solution for repair- and recycling-oriented adhesive separation in structural vehicle applications."}],"publication":"Journal of Advanced Joining Processes","title":"Comparison of the economic efficiency and sustainability of two debonding processes for structurally bonded sills","date_created":"2025-07-30T11:04:28Z","publisher":"Elsevier","year":"2025","quality_controlled":"1","article_type":"original","article_number":"100332","user_id":"103302","department":[{"_id":"157"},{"_id":"876"},{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"9"}],"_id":"60837","status":"public","type":"journal_article","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666330925000536?via%3Dihub"}],"doi":"10.1016/j.jajp.2025.100332","author":[{"first_name":"Alex","full_name":"Jordan, Alex","id":"62451","orcid":"0009-0007-9546-6071","last_name":"Jordan"},{"last_name":"Hermelingmeier","full_name":"Hermelingmeier, Lucas","id":"58649","first_name":"Lucas"},{"last_name":"Gilich","full_name":"Gilich, Julian","id":"44391","first_name":"Julian"},{"first_name":"Gerson","full_name":"Meschut, Gerson","id":"32056","orcid":"0000-0002-2763-1246","last_name":"Meschut"},{"first_name":"Marco Sebastian","last_name":"De Santis","id":"52239","full_name":"De Santis, Marco Sebastian"},{"first_name":"Alexander","last_name":"Schlüter","orcid":"0000-0002-2569-1624","full_name":"Schlüter, Alexander","id":"103302"}],"volume":12,"date_updated":"2026-01-06T08:22:54Z","oa":"1","citation":{"apa":"Jordan, A., Hermelingmeier, L., Gilich, J., Meschut, G., De Santis, M. The production of lightweight materials is usually associated with an increase in energy demand, so the environmental impacts of lightweight structures need to be assessed holistically using a life cycle assessment. To estimate the life cycle environmental impacts of a product in its developmental stage, for example, by life cycle engineering, future changes in relevant influencing factors must be considered. Prospective life cycle assessment provides methods for integrating future scenarios into life cycle assessment studies. However, approaches for integrating prospective life cycle assessment into product development are limited. The objective of this work is to provide the methodological foundation for integrating future scenarios of relevant influencing factors in the development of lightweight structures. The applicability of the novel methodology is demonstrated by a case study of a structural component in a steel, aluminium, and hybrid design. The results show that appropriate decarbonisation measures can reduce the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95 percent until 2050. We also found that shifts in the environmentally optimal design are possible in future scenarios. Therefore, the methodology and data provided contribute to improved decision-making in product development.
","lang":"eng"}],"type":"journal_article","publication":"Energies","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"3371","keyword":["Life Cycle Engineering","Life Cycle Assessment","Lightweight Design","Prospective LCA","Future-oriented LCA","Energy System","Material production","Sustainable production"],"user_id":"44763","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"149"}],"_id":"43464","citation":{"apa":"Ostermann, M., Grenz, J., Triebus, M., Cerdas, F., Marten, T., Tröster, T., & Herrmann, C. With regard to the examination system, the shift towards output-oriented teaching is still one of the most significant challenges. Assessments have to be integrated into the teaching and learning arrangements and consistently aligned towards the intended learning outcomes. In particular, assessments should provide valid evidence that learners have acquired competences that are relevant for a specific domain. However, it seems that this didactic goal has not yet been fully achieved in modeling education in computer science. The aim of this study is to investigate whether typical task material used in exercises and exams in modeling education at selected German universities covers relevant competences required for graphical modeling. For this purpose, typical tasks in the field of modeling are first identified by means of a content-analytical procedure. Subsequently, it is determined which competence facets relevant for graphical modeling are addressed by the task types. By contrasting a competence model for modeling with the competences addressed by the tasks, a gap was identified between the required competences and the task material analyzed. In particular, the gap analysis shows the neglect of transversal competence facets as well as those related to the analysis and evaluation of models. The result of this paper is a classification of task types for modeling education and a specification of the competence facets addressed by these tasks. Recommendations for developing and assessing student's competences comprehensively are given.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["conceptual modeling","higher education","competence-oriented assessment","task analysis","graphical modeling"],"ddc":["006","000","006"],"year":"2023","quality_controlled":"1","title":"Comparison of Required Competences and Task Material in Modeling Education","date_created":"2023-09-14T12:24:03Z"},{"date_updated":"2023-01-06T12:08:14Z","publisher":"Universitätsbibliothek Graz","volume":30,"date_created":"2023-01-03T12:41:20Z","author":[{"first_name":"Carina","last_name":"Caruso","full_name":"Caruso, Carina","id":"23123"},{"first_name":"Andreas","full_name":"Seifert, Andreas","last_name":"Seifert"}],"title":" Inwiefern ist die Professionalisierung in Praxisphasen schulformspezifisch?","doi":"10.30:2022.1.14","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1018-1539"]},"publication_status":"published","issue":"1","year":"2022","page":"239-260","intvolume":" 30","citation":{"apa":"Caruso, C., & Seifert, A. This approach involves so-called Huygens' box as an efficient radiation model inside an electromagnetic (EM) simulation tool and then transforms the scanned NF measured data into the FF. For this, the basic idea of the Huygens'box principle and the NF-to-FF transformation are briefly presented. The NF is measured on the Huygens' box around a device under test using anNF scanner, recording the magnitude and phase of the site-related magnetic and electric components. A comparison between a fullwave simulation and the measurement results shows a good similarity in both the NF and the simulated and transformed FF.Thus, this method is applicable to predict the FF behaviour of any electronic system by measuring the NF. With this knowledge, the RF design can be improved due to allowing a significant reduction of EM compatibility failure at the end of the development flow. In addition, the very efficient FF radiation model can be used for detailed investigations in various environments and the impact of such an equivalent radiation source on other electronic systems can be assessed.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Tensorial Analysis of Networks (TAN) Modelling for PCB Signal Integrity and EMC Analysis","keyword":["Huygens' box","NF-to-FF transformation","efficient FF radiation model","FF behaviour","EMI assessment","PCB","near-field measurements","efficient radiation model","far-field behaviour","RF design process","far-field prediction","Huygens'box principle","fullwave simulation","electronic system radiation","equivalent radiation source","electromagnetic simulation tool","near-field scan data","EM compatibility failure reduction"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"place":"Croyton, UK","citation":{"ama":"Schröder D, Lange S, Hangmann C, Hedayat C. Driven by advancements in information technology, marketing analytics, and consumer interface platforms (e.g., mobile devices), there have been many recent developments in LP practices around the world. They impose new challenges and create exciting opportunities for future LP research. The main objective of this paper is to identify missing links in the literature and to craft a future research agenda to advance LP research and practice. Our discussion focuses on three key areas: (1) LP designs, (2) Assessment of LP performance, and (3) Emerging trends and the impact of new technologies. We highlight several gaps in the literature and outline research opportunities in each area.","lang":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2022-01-06T07:02:36Z","volume":26,"author":[{"last_name":"Breugelmans","full_name":"Breugelmans, Els","first_name":"Els"},{"first_name":"Tammo H A","last_name":"Bijmolt","full_name":"Bijmolt, Tammo H A"},{"last_name":"Zhang","full_name":"Zhang, Jie","first_name":"Jie"},{"full_name":"Basso, Leonardo J","last_name":"Basso","first_name":"Leonardo J"},{"full_name":"Dorotic, Matilda","last_name":"Dorotic","first_name":"Matilda"},{"first_name":"Praveen","full_name":"Kopalle, Praveen","last_name":"Kopalle"},{"last_name":"Minnema","full_name":"Minnema, Alec","first_name":"Alec"},{"first_name":"Willem Jan","last_name":"Mijnlieff","full_name":"Mijnlieff, Willem Jan"},{"first_name":"Nancy","full_name":"Wünderlich, Nancy","id":"36392","last_name":"Wünderlich"}],"publication_status":"published","page":"127-139","intvolume":" 26","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Breugelmans_Bijmolt_Zhang_Basso_Dorotic_Kopalle_Minnema_Mijnlieff_Wünderlich_2015, title={Advancing Research on Loyalty Programs: A Future Research Agenda.}, volume={26}, number={2}, journal={Marketing Letters}, publisher={Springer}, author={Breugelmans, Els and Bijmolt, Tammo H A and Zhang, Jie and Basso, Leonardo J and Dorotic, Matilda and Kopalle, Praveen and Minnema, Alec and Mijnlieff, Willem Jan and Wünderlich, Nancy}, year={2015}, pages={127–139} }","short":"E. Though a lot of work is currently being conducted to develop PHM systems for fuel cells, various challenges have been encountered including the self-healing effect after characterization as well as accelerated degradation due to dynamic loading, all which make RUL predictions a difficult task. In this study, a prognostic approach based on adaptive particle filter algorithm is proposed. The novelty of the proposed method lies in the introduction of a self-healing factor after each characterization and the adaption of the degradation model parameters to fit to the changing degradation trend. An ensemble of five different state models based on weighted mean is then developed. The results show that the method is effective in estimating the remaining useful life of PEM fuel cells, with majority of the predictions falling within 5\\% error. The method was employed in the IEEE 2014 PHM Data Challenge and led to our team emerging the winner of the RUL category of the challenge."}],"status":"public","date_updated":"2019-05-20T13:12:27Z","date_created":"2019-05-20T13:11:02Z","author":[{"first_name":"James Kuria ","full_name":"Kimotho, James Kuria ","last_name":"Kimotho"},{"first_name":"Tobias","last_name":"Meyer","full_name":"Meyer, Tobias"},{"last_name":"Sextro","full_name":"Sextro, Walter","id":"21220","first_name":"Walter"}],"title":"PEM fuel cell prognostics using particle filter with model parameter adaptation","doi":"10.1109/ICPHM.2014.7036406","year":"2014","page":"1-6","citation":{"ieee":"J. Three research tasks are essential requisites on the path towards addressing this criticism: the synthesis of knowledge, the identification of lack of knowledge, and the proposition of paths for closing knowledge gaps. This paper considers each of these tasks by a) synthesizing key research findings based on a comprehensive literature review, b) identifying and unfolding key limitations of current research, and c) applying a decision-theoretic perspective, which opens new horizons to IS business value research and shows paths for overcoming the limitations. The adoption of this perspective results in a decision-theoretic foundation of IS business value research and includes the proposition of a consistent terminology and a research model that frames further research.","lang":"eng"}],"type":"conference","publication":"Proceedings of the 18th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2010)"},{"title":"Measuring the relationship between supervisory authorities and banks: An assessment of the German banking sector","date_created":"2018-09-14T13:08:39Z","year":"2008","issue":"1","keyword":["banking supervision","quality","assessment","banking sector"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"abstract":[{"text":"The successful implementation of a harmonised regulatory framework for the global banking system is still a long way off. This mainly results from (a) different traditions in banking regulation and supervision at the national level, (b) different national emphases on regulatory sub-goals such as efficiency or the protection and promotion of national financial markets, and (c) different institutional settings and conditions. In this context, studies on the banking industry's assessment of supervisory processes and instruments highlight how effectively and efficiently individual nation states are implementing international frameworks such as Basel II and the Capital Requirements Directive for Europe. In November 2005, the German Government commissioned an evaluation of the supervisory processes and instruments of the country's banking authorities, BaFin and Bundesbank. The study aimed to determine the options for further optimising supervision, reducing regulatory burden and bureaucracy, and otherwise restricting supervision. This paper presents the most important findings from the survey, analyses significant differences in assessments given by various banking groups, empirically evaluates significant drivers of banks' overall satisfaction with banking supervision, and drafts proposals for improving banking regulation and supervision in Germany. Finally, aspects of further research are discussed.
