  abstract     = {{<jats:p>Due to failures or even the absence of an electricity grid, microgrid systems are becoming popular solutions for electrifying African rural communities. However, they are heavily stressed and complex to control due to their intermittency and demand growth. Demand side management (DSM) serves as an option to increase the level of flexibility on the demand side by scheduling users’ consumption patterns profiles in response to supply. This paper proposes a demand-side management strategy based on load shifting and peak clipping. The proposed approach was modelled in a MATLAB/Simulink R2021a environment and was optimized using the artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm. Simulations were carried out to test the model’s efficacy in a stand-alone PV-battery microgrid in East Africa. The proposed algorithm reduces the peak demand, smoothing the load profile to the desired level, and improves the system’s peak to average ratio (PAR). The presence of deferrable loads has been considered to bring more flexible demand-side management. Results promise decreases in peak demand and peak to average ratio of about 31.2% and 7.5% through peak clipping. In addition, load shifting promises more flexibility to customers.</jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{While the Information Systems (IS) discipline has researched digital platforms extensively, the body of knowledge appertaining to platforms still appears fragmented and lacking conceptual consistency. Based on automated text mining and unsupervised machine learning, we collect, analyze, and interpret the IS discipline’s comprehensive research on platforms—comprising 11,049 papers spanning 44 years of research activity. From a cluster analysis concerning platform concepts’ semantically most similar words, we identify six research streams on platforms, each with their own platform terms. Based on interpreting the identified concepts vis-à-vis the extant research and considering a temporal perspective on the concepts’ application, we present a lexicon of platform concepts, to guide further research on platforms in the IS discipline. Researchers and managers can build on our results to position their work appropriately, applying a specific theoretical perspective on platforms in isolation or combining multiple perspectives to study platform phenomena at a more abstract level.}},

  abstract     = {{The corrosion behavior of a hybrid material consisting of intrinsically bonded carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy resin with laser-structured EN AW 6082 metal was investigated. Particular attention was paid to the effects of the laser-structuring, surface topography and the contacting. Pristine and hybridized specimens were corroded in aqueous NaCl electrolyte (0.1 mol/l) using a potentiodynamic polarization technique and subsequently analyzed using computed tomography, scanning electron-, light- and laser scanning microscopy. The results show that the corrosive reaction arises mainly from the aluminum component. Surface pretreatment of the aluminum resulted in increasing corrosion rates, but showed no influence on the hybrids corrosion properties. Optical micrographs suggest that the epoxy resin acts as a sealant preventing galvanic corrosion between the aluminum and carbon fibers by hindering the diffusion of the electrolyte into the joints. While corrosion effects were observed locally at the aluminum surface, they were, contrary to expectations, not enhanced on the hybrid interfaces.}},

  abstract     = {{One of the most powerful events in the still young 21st century is certainly the outbreak of the coronavirus and the following COVID-19 pandemic. Massive economic as well as social distress caused worldwide devastation. In Germany, not only stores, factories, cultural facilities were closed, but also – for the first time in history – schools were closed nationwide. Closed working sites and vocational schools, as well as working sites, which remained open due to their systemic relevance, led to so far unknown challenges in Germany’s vocational education system. A very good example are the dual apprenticeships, such as trained retail salesman, which were only partially affected by closures. The main goal of education policy was to compensate personal communication and interaction via digital media. This article’s main aim is to reveal the strategies vocational schools have developed to overcome the challenges they had to face because of the pandemic.}},

  abstract     = {{Subwavelength dielectric resonators assembled into metasurfaces have become a versatile tool for miniaturizing optical components approaching the nanoscale. An important class of metasurface functionalities is associated with asymmetry in both the generation and transmission of light with respect to reversals of the positions of emitters and receivers. The nonlinear light–matter interaction in metasurfaces offers a promising pathway towards miniaturization of the asymmetric control of light. Here we demonstrate asymmetric parametric generation of light in nonlinear metasurfaces. We assemble dissimilar nonlinear dielectric resonators into translucent metasurfaces that produce images in the visible spectral range on being illuminated by infrared radiation. By design, the metasurfaces produce different and completely independent images for the reversed direction of illumination, that is, when the positions of the infrared emitter and the visible light receiver are exchanged. Nonlinearity-enabled asymmetric control of light by subwavelength resonators paves the way towards novel nanophotonic components via dense integration of large quantities of nonlinear resonators into compact metasurface designs.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>Multimode integrated interferometers have great potential for both spectral engineering and metrological applications. However, the material dispersion of integrated platforms constitutes an obstacle that limits the performance and precision of such interferometers. At the same time, two-colour nonlinear interferometers present an important tool for metrological applications, when measurements in a certain frequency range are difficult. In this manuscript, we theoretically developed and investigated an integrated multimode two-colour SU(1,1) interferometer operating in a supersensitive mode. By ensuring the proper design of the integrated platform, we suppressed the dispersion, thereby significantly increasing the visibility of the interference pattern. The use of a continuous wave pump laser provided the symmetry between the spectral shapes of the signal and idler photons concerning half the pump frequency, despite different photon colours. We demonstrate that such an interferometer overcomes the classical phase sensitivity limit for wide parametric gain ranges, when up to 3×104 photons are generated.</jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>During resistance spot welding of zinc-coated advanced high-strength steels (AHSSs) for automotive production, liquid metal embrittlement (LME) cracking may occur in the event of a combination of various unfavorable influences. In this study, the interactions of different welding current levels and weld times on the tendency for LME cracking in third-generation AHSSs were investigated. LME manifested itself as high-penetration cracks around the circumference of the spot welds for welding currents closely below the expulsion limit. At the same time, the observed tendency for LME cracking showed no direct correlation with the overall heat input of the investigated welding processes. To identify a reliable indicator of the tendency for LME cracking, the local strain rate at the origin of the observed cracks was analyzed over the course of the welding process via finite element simulation. While the local strain rate showed a good correlation with the process-specific LME cracking tendency, it was difficult to interpret due to its discontinuous course. Therefore, based on the experimental measurement of electrode displacement during welding, electrode indentation velocity was proposed as a descriptive indicator for quantifying cracking tendency.</jats:p>}},
