  abstract = {{This article explores the interplay between learners’ linguistic and personal objectives as well as evaluations of their achievements in study-abroad contexts, an area that has thus far remained widely unexplored given the prevalence of product-oriented, outcomes-based research. The study draws on the case of one Canadian student of German who studied abroad at a German university for one year. To adopt an emic perspective, the data gained from a learning history questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and e-journals were analyzed and interpreted within the framework of narrative analysis. The results show not only that learners’ sojourn objectives may be complex, dynamic, and contradictory in nature but also that they need to be examined beyond their face value, as they are entangled with learners’ negotiations of desirable subject positions and attempts to integrate their sojourn experiences, successes, and frustrations in a coherent and positive life narrative.}},

  abstract = {{Transient changes of the optical response of WS2 monolayers are studied by femtosecond broadband pump–probe spectroscopy. Time-dependent absorption spectra are analyzed by tracking the line width broadening, bleaching, and energy shift of the main exciton resonance as a function of time delay after the excitation. Two main sources for the pump-induced changes of the optical response are identified. Specifically, we find an interplay between modifications induced by many-body interactions from photoexcited carriers and by the subsequent transfer of the excitation to the phonon system followed by cooling of the material through the heat transfer to the substrate.}},

The process is seeded by a stable supercontinuum obtained from a photonic crystal fiber. We use a single pass through a 3 mm, magnesium oxide-doped, periodically poled LiNbO3 downconversion crystal to produce a near-IR pulse train with a remarkable power stability of 1.4 % (RMS) during one hour. Tuning is achieved by the temperature and the poling period of the nonlinear crystal.}},

@article{32546,
  abstract = {{This longitudinal study addresses the role of support given by parents and peers during the transition from university to work life. A sample of 64 German university students in their last year at the university completed scales from the Network of Relationships Inventory regarding general support, namely, instrumental aid and intimacy with mothers, fathers, romantic partners, and friends. Four years later, they assessed domain-specific support when looking for work, namely, joint exploration and instrumental support. Participants perceived receiving both types of support from all significant others. However, joint exploration was more important than instrumental support. They felt especially supported by romantic partners. Women received more support than did men. Both types of domain-specific support were explained by general modes of support assessed 4 years earlier. Whether parents, friends, and partners were perceived as helpful during the transition was explained mainly by joint exploration. Again, support from a partner was seen as especially helpful in contrast to help from parents and friends. The special significance of joint exploration underlines the benefit of counseling at the transition from university to work life.}},
