text: In this work, the influence of the filler–matrix adhesion on the tensile properties
of laser-sintered parts built with Polyamide 613 filled with glass beads was investigated.
For this purpose, dry blends of glass beads with and without organosilane coupling
agents and polyamide powder were prepared and processed into tensile specimens
on an EOS P396 laser sintering system. The samples were tested both in the dry
state and after an accelerated conditioning in a climate chamber. Furthermore,
finite element method (FEM) simulations were performed to model the extreme cases
of optimum adhesion and no adhesion. By correlating the tensile tests with the
simulation results and by analyzing the fracture surfaces, it was shown that the
filler–matrix adhesion is sufficient in the dry state but is strongly degraded
by conditioning. Even the presence of various organosilane thin films could not
prevent a strong deterioration of the filler–matrix adhesion and the associated
deterioration of the mechanical properties. Since a comparison with an injection-molded
sample of the same polymer filler combination shows identical behavior after conditioning,
it is assumed that this problem is not limited to additively manufactured parts.

text: Typically, head fakes in basketball are generated to, and actually do, deteriorate
performance on the side of the observer. However, potential costs at the side
of the producer of a fake action have only rarely been investigated before. It
is thus not clear yet if the benefit (i.e., slowed reactions in the observer)
of performing a head fake is overestimated due to concurrently arising fake production
costs (i.e., slowed performance in the producer of a head fake). Therefore, we
studied potential head-fake production costs with two experiments. Novice participants
were asked to generate passes to the left or right side, either with or without
head fakes. In Experiment 1, these actions were determined by an auditory stimulus
(i.e., a 440 Hz or 1200 Hz sinus or jigsaw wave). After an interstimulus interval
(ISI) of either 0 ms, 800 ms, or 1500 ms, which served the preparation of the
action, the cued action had to be executed. In Experiment 2, passing to the left
or right, either with or without a head fake, was determined by a visual stimulus
(i.e., a player with a red or blue jersey defending either the right or left side).
After an ISI of either 0 ms, 400 ms, 800 ms, or 1200 ms, the cued action had to
be executed. In both experiments, we observed higher reaction times (RTs) for
passes with head fakes as compared to passes without head fakes for no and an
intermediate preparation interval (from ISI 0 ms to 800 ms), but no difference
for a long preparation interval (for an ISI of 1200 ms and 1500 ms). Both experiments
show that generating fake actions produces performance costs, however, these costs
can be overcome by a longer preparation phase before movement execution.

  text: "
Abstract
FeCo alloys are important materials
used in pumps and motors in the offshore oil and gas drilling industry. These
alloys are subjected to marine environments with a high NaCl concentration, therefore,
corrosion and catastrophic failure are anticipated. So, the surface dissolution
of additively manufactured FeCo samples is investigated in a quasi-in
situ manner, in particular, the pitting corrosion in 5.0 wt pct
NaCl solution. The local dissolution of the same sample region is monitored after
24, 72, and 168 hours. Here, the formation of rectangular and circular pits of
ultra-fine dimensions (less than 0.5 µm) is observed
with increasing immersion time. In addition, the formation of a corrosion-inhibiting
surface layer is detected on the sample surface. Surface dissolution leads to
a change in the surface structure, however, no change in grain shape or grain
size is noticed. The surface topography after local dissolution is correlated
to the grain orientation. Quasi-in situ analysis shows
the preferential dissolution of high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) leading to
a change in the fraction of HAGBs and low-angle grain boundaries fraction (LAGBs).

(Ecorr) of − 0.475 V referred to the standard hydrogen electrode

experiments showed that grains oriented along certain crystallographic directions

  text:
Purpose: The aim
of this study was to examine whether cortical activity changes during exercise
with increasing cognitive demands in preadolescent children. Method:
Twenty healthy children (8.75 [0.91] y) performed one movement game, which was
conducted with lower and higher cognitive demands. During a baseline measurement
and both exercise conditions, cortical activity was recorded using a 64-channel
electroencephalographic system, and heart rate was assessed. Ratings of perceived
excertion and perceived cognitive engagement were examined after each condition.
To analyze power spectral density in the theta, alpha-1, and alpha-2 frequency
bands, an adaptive mixture independent component analysis was used to determine
the spatiotemporal sources of cortical activity, and brain components were clustered
    to identify spatial clusters. Results:
One-way repeated-measures analyses of variance revealed significant main effects
for condition on theta in the prefrontal cluster, on alpha-1 in the prefrontal,
central, bilateral motor, bilateral parieto-occipital, and occipital clusters,
and on alpha-2 in the left motor, central, and left parieto-occipital clusters.
Compared with the lower cognitive demand exercise, cortical activity was significantly
higher in theta power in the prefrontal cluster and in alpha-1 power in the occipital
cluster during the higher cognitive demand exercise. Conclusion:
The present study shows that exercise complexity seems to influence cortical processing
as it increased with increasing cognitive demands.

text: Modelling of dynamic systems plays an important role in many engineering disciplines.
Two different approaches are physical modelling and data‐driven modelling, both
of which have their respective advantages and disadvantages. By combining these
two approaches, hybrid models can be created in which the respective disadvantages
are mitigated, with discrepancy models being a particular subclass. Here, the
basic system behaviour is described physically, that is, in the form of differential
equations. Inaccuracies resulting from insufficient modelling or numerics lead
to a discrepancy between the measurements and the model, which can be compensated
by a data‐driven error correction term. Since discrepancy methods still require
a large amount of measurement data, this paper investigates the extent to which
a single discrepancy model can be trained for a physical model with additional
parameter dependencies without the need for retraining. As an example, a damped
electromagnetic oscillating circuit is used. The physical model is realised by
a differential equation describing the electric current, considering only inductance
and capacitance; dissipation due to resistance is neglected. This creates a discrepancy
between measurement and model, which is corrected by a data‐driven model. In the
experiments, the inductance and the capacity are varied. It is found that the
same data‐driven model can only be used if additional parametric dependencies
in the data‐driven term are considered as well.

  text: "
Zusammenfassung
\r\n
Aufgrund
"

text: "Many Android applications collect data from users. When they do, they must\r\nprotect
this collected data according to the current legal frameworks. Such\r\ndata protection
has become even more important since the European Union rolled\r\nout the General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). App developers have limited\r\ntool support
to reason about data protection throughout their app development\r\nprocess. Although
many Android applications state a privacy policy, privacy\r\npolicy compliance
checks are currently manual, expensive, and prone to error.\r\nOne of the major
challenges in privacy audits is the significant gap between\r\nlegal privacy statements
(in English text) and technical measures that Android\r\napps use to protect their
user's privacy. In this thesis, we will explore to\r\nwhat extent we can use static
analysis to answer important questions regarding\r\ndata protection. Our main
goal is to design a tool based approach that aids app\r\ndevelopers and auditors
in ensuring data protection in Android applications,\r\nbased on automated static
    program analysis."

text: To improve the mechanical performance and to address current shortcomings
of adhesive bonds such as bond degradation due to aging, a pulsed laser surface
pretreatment of the metal surfaces of aluminum AW 6082-T6 joints with epoxy adhesive
E320 is investigated. The surface treatment of the specimens resulted in increased
single-lap shear (SLS) strengths before and after hydrothermal aging in 80°C hot
water compared to nonpretreated reference specimens. In order to reveal the correlations
of laser parameters, resulting surface morphologies and the SLS strength, differently
laser pretreated surfaces were characterized at the micro- and nanoscale using
optical and scanning electron microscopies. The surface enlargement was quantified
with a digital image analysis of cross-sections prepared from the joint interfaces.
An analysis of variances (ANOVA) of the SLS results indicated that the laser parameters
power and pulse frequency were most critical for obtaining high SLS strengths.
Pretreated joint surfaces with a high micro- and nano-surface enlargement and
deep solidification structures provide high SLS strengths of up to 50 MPa and
almost negligible aging losses of merely 4%. Undercut structures on the pretreated
surfaces were found to be beneficial for the mechanical and aging properties when
only limited micro- and nanostructuring was applied.

text: A parameter investigation for manufacturing a hybrid system through the prepreg
pressing process was carried out within the scope of this work to achieve optimal
adhesion properties. The hybrid specimen comprises an aluminium sheet of alloy
EN AW 6082 in T6 condition and a thermoset Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics prepreg.
The prepreg pressing process allows the curing reaction of epoxy resin and the
joining process to occur simultaneously to avoid an additional bonding process
step. The surface of the aluminium sheet was pretreated in advance using a pulsed
Nd:YAG laser to enhance the bonding properties. In the first step, the shear edge
tests investigated the adhesion properties achieved with different consolidation
(temperature, time and pressure) and laser parameters. Then, 3-point bending tests
were carried out to investigate the influence of the consolidation parameters
on the mechanical properties of the Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics-laminate.
In this way, the optimal parameter sets for manufacturing hybrid structures were
    determined.

text: The sustainability of the manufacturing industry is of special importance
to increase the protection of the environment. The production of fasteners like
self-piercing rivets, however, is costly, time-consuming and energy-intensive.
The heat treatment and the coating, which are mandatory in conventional self-piercing
rivets to achieve adequate strength, ductility and corrosion resistance, are especially
crucial in this respect. Within this paper, an approach for an increase in the
sustainability in fastener production is presented. The use of alternative, high
strain hardening stainless steels as rivet material enables a shortening of the
process chain, because post treatment of the rivets after they are formed can
be omitted. As the change in rivet material and processing causes some issues
along the process chain, the focus of this paper is on the holistic evaluation
of the challenges within the forming of high strain hardening steel and the impact
of the changed rivet properties on the joining result.

  text: '
Abstract
Today, a major technological trend
is the increasing focus on the person: technical systems personalize, customize,
and tailor to the person in both beneficial and troubling ways. This trend has
moved beyond the realm of commerce and has become a matter of public governance,
where systems for citizen risk scoring, predictive policing, and social credit
scores proliferate. What these systems have in common is that they may target
the person and her ethical and political dispositions, her virtues. Virtue ethics
is the most appropriate approach for evaluating the impacts of these new systems,
which has translated in a revival of talk about virtue in technology ethics. Yet,
the focus on individual dispositions has rightly been criticized for lacking a
concern with the political collective and institutional structures. This paper
advocates a new direction of research into civic virtue, which is situated in
between personal dispositions and structures of governance. First, it surveys
the discourse on virtue ethics of technology, emphasizing its neglect of the political
dimension of impacts of emerging technologies. Second, it presents a pluralist
conception of civic virtue that enables us to scrutinize the impact of technology
on civic virtue on three different levels of reciprocal reputation building, the
cultivation of internal goods, and excellence in the public sphere. Third, it
illustrates the benefits of this conceptions by discussing some paradigmatic examples
of emerging technologies that aim to cultivate civic virtue.
'

  text:
Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) show near
unity efficiency, low dark count rate, and short recovery time. Combining these
characteristics with temporal control of SNSPDs broadens their applications as
in active de-latching for higher dynamic range counting or temporal filtering
for pump-probe spectroscopy or LiDAR. To that end, we demonstrate active gating
of an SNSPD with a minimum off-to-on rise time of 2.4 ns and a total gate length
of 5.0 ns. We show how the rise time depends on the inductance of the detector
in combination with the control electronics. The gate window is demonstrated to
be fully and freely, electrically tunable up to 500 ns at a repetition rate of
1.0 MHz, as well as ungated, free-running operation. Control electronics to generate
the gating are mounted on the 2.3 K stage of a closed-cycle sorption cryostat,
while the detector is operated on the cold stage at 0.8 K. We show that the efficiency
and timing jitter of the detector is not altered during the on-time of the gating
window. We exploit gated operation to demonstrate a method to increase in the
photon counting dynamic range by a factor 11.2, as well as temporal filtering
of a strong pump in an emulated pump-probe experiment.
