  text:
Abstract
Comprehensive data understanding
is a key success driver for data analytics projects. Knowing the characteristics
of the data helps a lot in selecting the appropriate data analysis techniques.
Especially in data-driven product planning, knowledge about the data is a necessary
prerequisite because data of the use phase is very heterogeneous. However, companies
often do not have the necessary know-how or time to build up solid data understanding
in connection with data analysis. In this paper, we develop a methodology to organize
and categorize and thus understand use phase data in a way that makes it accessible
to general data analytics workflows, following a design science research approach.
We first present a knowledge base that lists typical use phase data from a product
planning view. Second, we develop a taxonomy based on standard literature and
real data objects, which covers the diversity of the data considered. The taxonomy
provides 8 dimensions that support classification of use phase data and allows
to capture data characteristics from a data analytics view. Finally, we combine
both views by clustering the objects of the knowledge base according to the taxonomy.
Each of the resulting clusters covers a typical combination of analytics relevant
characteristics occurring in practice. By abstracting from the diversity of use
phase data into artifacts with manageable complexity, our approach provides guidance
to choose appropriate data analysis and AI techniques.

  text:

text: In this paper, a study based on experimental and numerical simulations is
performed to analyze fatigue cracks in clinched joints. An experimental investigation
is conducted to determine the failure modes of clinched joints under cyclic loading
at different load amplitudes with single-lap shear tests. In addition, numerical
FEM simulations of clinching process and subsequent shear loading are performed
to support the experimental investigations by analyzing the state of stresses
at the location of failure. An attempt is made to explain the location of crack
initiation in the experiments using evaluation variables such as contact shear
    stress and maximum principal stress.

text: In this study, quasi-unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics
(CFRTs) are joined with metal sheets via cold formed cylindrical, elliptical and
polygonal pin structures which are directly pressed into the CFRT component after
local infrared heating. In comparison to already available studies, the unique
novelty is the use of non-rotational symmetric pin structures for the CFRT/metal
hybrid joining. Thus, a variation in the fiber orientation in the CFRT component
as well as a variation in the non-rotational symmetric pins’ orientation in relation
to the sample orientation is conducted. The created samples are consequently mechanically
tested via single lap shear experiments in a quasi-static state. Finally, the
failure behavior of the single lap shear samples is investigated with the help
of microscopic images and detailed photographs. In the single lap shear tests,
it could be shown that non-rotational symmetric pin structures lead to an increase
in maximum testing forces of up to 74% when compared to cylindrical pins. However,
when normalized to the pin foot print related joint strength, only one polygonal
pin variation showed increased joint strength in comparison to cylindrical pin
structures. The investigation of the failure behavior showed two distinct failure
modes. The first failure mode was failure of the CFRT component due to an exceedance
of the maximum bearing strength of the pin-hole leading to significant damage
in the CFRT component. The second failure mode was pin-deflection due to the applied
testing load and a subsequent pin extraction from the CFRT component resulting
in significantly less visible damage in the CFRT component. Generally, CFRT failure
is more likely with a fiber orientation of 0° in relation to the load direction
while pin extraction typically occurs with a fiber orientation of 90°. It is assumed
that for future investigations, pin structures with an undercutting shape that
creates an interlocking joint could counteract the tendency for pin-extraction
and consequently lead to increased maximum joint strengths.

In diesem Beitrag
werden die drei häufigsten Konzepte, die Voxelgröße, die Ortsauflösung und die
metrologische Strukturauflösung in Kürze vorgestellt. Anschließend wird eine Abgrenzung
zwischen den Konzepten getroffen und ein Integration der bestehenden Konzepte
in ein gemeinsames Amplituden-Wellenlängen Diagramm diskutiert.

text: Given strict emission targets and legal requirements, especially in the automotive
industry, environmentally friendly and simultaneously versatile applicable production
technologies are gaining importance. In this regard, the use of mechanical joining
processes, such as clinching, enable assembly sheet metals to achieve strength
properties similar to those of established thermal joining technologies. However,
to guarantee a high reliability of the generated joint connection, the selection
of a best-fitting joining technology as well as the meaningful description of
individual joint properties is essential. In the context of clinching, few contributions
have to date investigated the metamodel-based estimation and optimization of joint
characteristics, such as neck or interlock thickness, by applying machine learning
and genetic algorithms. Therefore, several regression models have been trained
on varying databases and amounts of input parameters. However, if product engineers
can only provide limited data for a new joining task, such as incomplete information
on applied joining tool dimensions, previously trained metamodels often reach
their limits. This often results in a significant loss of prediction quality and
leads to increasing uncertainties and inaccuracies within the metamodel-based
design of a clinch joint connection. Motivated by this, the presented contribution
investigates different machine learning algorithms regarding their ability to
achieve a satisfying estimation accuracy on limited input data applying a statistically
based feature selection method. Through this, it is possible to identify which
regression models are suitable to predict clinch joint characteristics considering
only a minimum set of required input features. Thus, in addition to the opportunity
to decrease the training effort as well as the model complexity, the subsequent
formulation of design equations can pave the way to a more versatile application
and reuse of pretrained metamodels on varying tool configurations for a given
    clinch joining task.

The outcome after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is in general disappointing with unacceptable number of athletes that do not return to pre-injury level of sports, high re-injury rates, early development of osteoarthritis and shorter careers. Athletes after ACLR have high expectation to return to sports which is in contrast with the current outcomes. The aim of this manuscript is to present an overview of factors that are needed to be incorporated and to personalize the rehabilitation process for an athlete who has undergone an ACLR.

Background
The outcome after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is in general disappointing with unacceptable number of athletes that do not return to pre-injury level of sports, high re-injury rates, early development of osteoarthritis and shorter careers. Athletes after ACLR have high expectation to return to sports which is in contrast with the current outcomes. The aim of this manuscript is to present an overview of factors that are needed to be incorporated and to personalize the rehabilitation process for an athlete who has undergone an ACLR.

plasma deposited films on the corrosion resistance of adhesive films on a laser
surface melted 7075 aluminium alloy was investigated by means of complementary
techniques in comparison to the just laser surface melted state. Laser surface
melting (LSM) was performed using a continuous wave mode at a wavelength of 1064 nm.
Ultra-thin plasma polymer films were deposited from a mixture of hexamethyldisilane
(HMDSO), oxygen, and argon by means of an audio-frequency glow discharge. The
surface morphology and surface chemistry compositions were investigated by employing
field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy
(EDX), diffuse reflection infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron
spectroscopy. The corrosion resistance of plasma polymer coated LSM Al-7075 alloy
was studied using linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
in a chloride-containing electrolyte. The electrochemical studies showed an improved
corrosion resistance for plasma film-coated alloys compared to the just laser
surface melted state. To study the corresponding surface adhesive properties,
the samples were coated with an epoxy amine adhesive. 90°-peel test under humid
conditions confirmed the improvement of interfacial wet-adhesion corrosion tests
showed a strong improvement of the delamination resistance of adhesives caused
    by the ultra-thin interfacial SiOx-films.

text: Distributed, software-intensive systems (e.g., in the automotive sector) must
fulfill communication requirements under hard real-time constraints. The requirements
have to be documented and validated carefully using a systematic requirements
engineering (RE) approach, for example, by applying scenario-based requirements
notations. The resources of the execution platforms and their properties (e.g.,
CPU frequency or bus throughput) induce effects on the timing behavior, which
may lead to violations of the real-time requirements. Nowadays, the platform properties
and their induced timing effects are verified against the real-time requirements
by means of timing analysis techniques mostly implemented in commercial-off-the-shelf
tools. However, such timing analyses are conducted in late development phases
since they rely on artifacts produced during these phases (e.g., the platform-specific
code). In order to enable early timing analyses already during RE, we extend a
scenario-based requirements notation with allocation means to platform models
and define operational semantics for the purpose of simulation-based, platform-aware
timing analyses. We illustrate and evaluate the approach with an automotive software-intensive
    system.

text: Safety-critical systems have to follow extremely high dependability requirements
as specified in the standards for automotive, air, and space applications. The
required high fault coverage at runtime is usually obtained by a combination of
concurrent error detection or correction and periodic tests within rather short
time intervals. The concurrent scheme ensures the integrity of computed results
while the periodic test has to identify potential aging problems and to prevent
any fault accumulation which may invalidate the concurrent error detection mechanism.
Such periodic built-in self-test (BIST) schemes are already commercialized for
memories and for random logic. The paper at hand extends this approach to interconnect
structures. A BIST scheme is presented which targets interconnect defects before
they will actually affect the system functionality at nominal speed. A BIST schedule
is developed which significantly reduces aging caused by electromigration during
the lifetime application of the periodic test.
