  text: Mechanical clinching is used to create lightweight hybrid structures. In order
    to estimate the service life of clinched components, its fatigue properties need
    to be known under different mechanical loading conditions. In addition to fatigue,
    corrosion is another factor that affects the fatigue life of clinched joints.
    In the literature, many corrosion and high-cycle fatigue damage models exist.
    However, little is known about how both phenomena interact in clinched joints.
    In this article, the influence of galvanic corrosion on clinched EN AW-6014/HCT590X + Z
    sheets on the fatigue life is investigated by means of numerical simulations and
    experimental results. An accurate prediction of the Wöhler lines of non-corroded
    and pre-corroded clinched specimens is shown.

    test investigated the reliability users can expect for AlSi10Mg additive manufactured
    specimens by laser powder bed fusion through examining powder quality, process
    parameter, microstructure defects, strength and fatigue. Besides for one outlier,
    expected static material properties could be found. Optical microstructure inspection
    was beneficial to determine true porosity and porosity types to explain the occurring
    scatter in properties. Fractographic analyses reveal that the fatigue crack propagation
    starts at the rough as-built surface for all specimens. Statistical analysis of
    the scatter in fatigue using statistical derived safety factors concludes that
    at a stress of 36.87 MPa the fatigue limit of 10<jats:sup>7</jats:sup> cycles
    could be reached for all specimen with a survival probability of 99.999 %.</jats:p>"

  text: '<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>There is preliminary evidence that
    adrenal steroids other than cortisol may be valuable biomarkers for major depressive
    disorder (MDD). So far, studies have been conducted in adults only, and conclusions
    are limited, mainly due to small sample sizes. Therefore, the present study assessed
    whether adrenal steroids serve as biomarkers for adolescent MDD. In 261 depressed
    adolescents (170 females) treated at a single psychiatric hospital, serum adrenal
    steroids (progesterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, 21-deoxycortisol, 11-deoxycortisol,
    cortisol, cortisone, deoxycorticosterone, corticosterone) were determined by liquid
    chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Findings were compared to that of an
    age- and sex-matched reference cohort (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic> = 255) by
    nonparametric analysis of variance. Nonparametric receiver operating characteristics
    (ROC) analyses were conducted to evaluate the diagnostic performance of single
    steroids and steroid ratios to classify depression status. Sensitivity analyses
    considered important confounders of adrenal functioning, and ROC results were
    verified by cross-validation. Compared to the reference cohort, levels of deoxycorticosterone
    and 21-deoxycortisol were decreased (<jats:italic>P</jats:italic> &lt; 0.001).
    All other glucocorticoid- and mineralocorticoid-related steroids were increased
    (<jats:italic>P</jats:italic> &lt; 0.001). The corticosterone to deoxycorticosterone
    ratio evidenced excellent classification characteristics, especially in females
    (AUC: 0.957; sensitivity: 0.902; specificity: 0.891). The adrenal steroid metabolome
    qualifies as a bio-readout reflecting adolescent MDD by a distinct steroid pattern
    that indicates dysfunction of the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal axis. Moreover,
    the corticosterone to deoxycorticosterone ratio may prospectively qualify to contribute
    to precision medicine in psychiatry by identifying those patients who might benefit
    from antiglucocorticoid treatment or those at risk for recurrence when adrenal
    dysfunction has not resolved.</jats:p>'

  text: <jats:p>Following concepts describing lesson planning as a form of anticipatory
    reflection, preservice physics teachers’ reflection skills are assumed to be positively
    connected with their planning skills. However, empirical evidence on this is scarce.
    To explore how relations between these specific skills change over the course
    of a field experience controlling for influences of professional knowledge, we
    conduct a pre-post field study with N = 95 preservice physics teachers in a one-semester
    field experience. Content knowledge (CK) and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK)
    (paper-and-pencil tests), and reflection and planning skills (standardized performance
    assessments) were assessed before and after the field experience. Path analyses
    revealed almost no influence of reflection skills on planning skills. Reflections
    skills did not contribute to preservice teachers planning skills beyond knowledge,
    indicating both constructs might represent rather independent abilities. The results
    show the need for further development of models describing the development of
    teachers’ professional knowledge and skills in academic teacher education and
    for the development of concepts for a better integration of reflection and lesson
    planning in field experiences.</jats:p>

  text: '<jats:p>There is an increasing interest in sensing applications for a variety
    of analytes in aqueous environments, as conventional methods do not work reliably
    under humid conditions or they require complex equipment with experienced operators.
    Hydrogel sensors are easy to fabricate, are incredibly sensitive, and have broad
    dynamic ranges. Experiments on their robustness, reliability, and reusability
    have indicated the possible long-term applications of these systems in a variety
    of fields, including disease diagnosis, detection of pharmaceuticals, and in environmental
    testing. It is possible to produce hydrogels, which, upon sensing a specific analyte,
    can adsorb it onto their 3D-structure and can therefore be used to remove them
    from a given environment. High specificity can be obtained by using molecularly
    imprinted polymers. Typical detection principles involve optical methods including
    fluorescence and chemiluminescence, and volume changes in colloidal photonic crystals,
    as well as electrochemical methods. Here, we explore the current research utilizing

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>While the Information Systems (IS)
    discipline has researched digital platforms extensively, the body of knowledge
    appertaining to platforms still appears fragmented and lacking conceptual consistency.
    Based on automated text mining and unsupervised machine learning, we collect,
    analyze, and interpret the IS discipline’s comprehensive research on platforms—comprising
    11,049 papers spanning 44 years of research activity. From a cluster analysis
    concerning platform concepts’ semantically most similar words, we identify six
    research streams on platforms, each with their own platform terms. Based on interpreting
    the identified concepts vis-à-vis the extant research and considering a temporal
    perspective on the concepts’ application, we present a lexicon of platform concepts,
    to guide further research on platforms in the IS discipline. Researchers and managers
    can build on our results to position their work appropriately, applying a specific
    theoretical perspective on platforms in isolation or combining multiple perspectives
    to study platform phenomena at a more abstract level.</jats:p>

  text: '<jats:p> A process sequence enabling the large-area fabrication of nanopillar-patterned
    semiconductor templates for selective-area heteroepitaxy is developed. Herein,
    the nanopillar tops surrounded by a SiN<jats:sub>x</jats:sub> mask film serve
    as nanoscale growth areas. The molecular beam epitaxial growth of InAs on such
    patterned GaAs[Formula: see text]A templates is investigated by means of electron
    microscopy. It is found that defect-free nanoscale InAs islands grow selectively
    on the nanopillar tops at a substrate temperature of 425 °C. High-angle annular
    dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy imaging reveals that for
    a growth temperature of 400 °C, the InAs islands show a tendency to form wurtzite
    phase arms extending along the lateral [Formula: see text] directions from the
    central zinc blende region of the islands. This is ascribed to a temporary self-catalyzed
    vapor–liquid–solid growth on [Formula: see text] B facets, which leads to a kinetically
    induced preference for the nucleation of the wurtzite phase driven by the local,
    instantaneous V/III ratio, and to a concomitant reduction of surface energy of
    the nanoscale diameter arms. </jats:p>'

  text: 'Considering students’ voices and perspectives is indispensable in educational
    contexts. Therefore, instruments of measurement that are reliable and valid and
    can be used easily without complications are needed in schools. The Perceptions
    of Inclusion Questionnaire (PIQ) is a short instrument used to assess three central
    dimensions of inclusion, namely emotional and social inclusion and academic self-concept.
    Previous evaluations indicate in general high psychometric properties. This study
    aimed to evaluate the construct validity of the three scales of the PIQ’s student
    version using different approaches in two samples from primary (grade 4, N = 721)
    and secondary (grade 7, N = 393) schools. The results of confirmatory factorial
    analyses confirmed the PIQ’s three factors in both samples which are also measurement
    equivalent across grades. Plausible correlations with additional divergent and
    convergent scales reveal that the PIQ measures the theoretically assumed constructs—emotional
    and social inclusion as well as academic self-concept—validly. '

  text: <jats:p> Recently, microcavities with anisotropic materials were shown to
    be able to create bands with non-zero local Berry curvature. The anisotropic refractive
    index of the cavity layer is believed to be critical in opening an energy gap
    at the tilted Dirac points. In this work, we show that the anticrossing between
    a cavity mode and a Bragg mode can also be realized within an empty microcavity
    without any birefringent materials in the cavity layer. Nondispersive bands are
    observed within the energy gap due to the particular refractive index distribution
    of the sample. The intrinsic TE-TM splitting and XY splitting of DBR mirrors induce
    the squeezing of the cavity modes in momentum space, so that the nondispersive
    bands are tilted and spin-dependent. Our results pave the way to investigate interesting
    physical phenomena of photonic modes close to or in the nondispersive bands without
    anisotropic cavity layers. </jats:p>

    single photon detector dictates the optimisation of the electro-optic modulators
    under the same operating conditions. To that end, we characterise a phase modulator,
    directional coupler, and polarisation converter at both ambient and cryogenic

  text: <jats:p> Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors (SNSPDs) have become
    an integral part of quantum optics in recent years because of their high performance
    in single photon detection. We present a method to replace the electrical input
    by supplying the required bias current via the photocurrent of a photodiode situated
    on the cold stage of the cryostat. Light is guided to the bias photodiode through
    an optical fiber, which enables a lower thermal conduction and galvanic isolation
    between room temperature and the cold stage. We show that an off-the-shelf InGaAs–InP
    photodiode exhibits a responsivity of at least 0.55 A/W at 0.8 K. Using this device
    to bias an SNSPD, we characterize the count rate dependent on the optical power
    incident on the photodiode. This configuration of the SNSPD and photodiode shows
    an expected plateau in the single photon count rate with an optical bias power
    on the photodiode above 6.8 µW. Furthermore, we compare the same detector under
    both optical and electrical bias, and show there is no significant changes in
    performance. This has the advantage of avoiding an electrical input cable, which
    reduces the latent heat load by a factor of 100 and, in principle, allows for
    low loss RF current supply at the cold stage. </jats:p>

    content-type="abstract-subheading">Design/methodology/approach</jats:title><jats:p>The
    case study is based on various secondary sources of information and on the insights
    that one of the authors gained from working for 14 years in various positions
    for Daimler-Benz and DaimlerChrysler.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title
    content-type="abstract-subheading">Findings</jats:title><jats:p>DaimlerChrysler
    failed because top management made mistakes in trying to globalize the company.
    They were unable to realize possible synergies between the two companies, which
    brought complementary resources into the merger. Furthermore, they did not account
    for the institutional embeddedness of strategies when they adopted lean production
    globally, diffused the production system developed in Germany to other parts of
    the world and tried to implement a global stock enlisted in New York and Frankfurt.
    The underlying theoretical framework is relevant for other merger and acquisition
    cases. It features institutional embeddedness, path dependency and institutional
    arbitrage.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Originality/value</jats:title><jats:p>The
    paper develops an institutional perspective on DaimlerChrysler and on cross-border
    merger and acquisition failure more generally. The perspective is organized around
    the varieties-of-capitalism approach. This contribution is important because there
    is increasing dissatisfaction with the dominant explanation of cross-border merger
    and acquisition failure, which is based on the allegedly failed management of
    culture “clashes.”</jats:p></jats:sec>
