In\r\ncollaboration with one of Germany’s largest energy providers, we conducted\r\na natural field experiment (N = 2,598) to evaluate the effectiveness of a\r\nbehaviorally-guided co-design of such a gas-saving initiative by implementing\r\ntwo established behavioral instruments – reminders of gas saving intentions and\r\ndescriptive norm feedback. Our findings show limited effectiveness of the behav-\r\nioral instruments during the high-price period. The feedback risks a “boomerang\r\neffect” among households with above-average initial savings, who reduce their\r\nconservation efforts in response. The reminder does not significantly enhance sav-\r\nings in our main specifications, yet, realizes 1 percentage point savings in alternate\r\nmodels refining for outliers. All tweets with the keyword “Flüchtlinge” posted for a monthlong period following September 13, 2015, the day Germany decided to implement border controls, were collected (N = 763,752). The top 2,495 tweets according to number of retweets were selected for analysis. Differences between news media, public and private actor tweets in topics, tweet characteristics such as tone and opinion expression, links, and specific sentiments toward refugees were analyzed. We found strong differences between the tweets. Public actor tweets were the main source of positive sentiment toward refugees and the main information source on refugee support. News media tweets mostly reflected traditional journalistic norms of impartiality and objectivity, whereas private actor tweets were more diverse in sentiments toward refugees. To understand how the Corona crisis affected students, first this article explains the structural and social inequalities in the German higher education system, using Tinto's (1975; 1997) student engagement theory. Second, the concept of Bergman-Rosamond et al. (2020) is used to analyze the challenges that Corona has raised for students, including current surveys. We found that the closure of the social space campus (and the Corona crisis as a whole) particularly hit hard those students who had previously been affected by (intersectional) inequality. Therefore, to lessen the specific challenges associated with the ad hoc transition to digital studying, the creation of a digital community of learning can help. We demonstrate how such a community can be created by the example seminar, \"Digital practices: an autoethnographic observation\". During the seminar, students recorded their digital technology use in a journal, and we analyzed the diary entries using the collaborate autoethnography method. The seminar example shows that this method is well suited for the development of a community of learning as it not only places students in the spotlight but as students work together on a topic they get to know each other, and a basis of trust is created through peer-feedback. Therefore, it was important to have a digital space (in this case Mahara) where the exchange could take place. The continuous insight into the students’ \"learning status\" enabled the lecturer to promote the learning and provide individual assistance for the students."}],"file":[{"relation":"main_file","success":1,"content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"36547","access_level":"closed","file_name":"2021 Steinhardt Students in the spotlight.pdf","file_size":391202,"date_created":"2023-01-13T09:19:55Z","creator":"isste","date_updated":"2023-01-13T09:19:55Z"}],"keyword":["Intersectionality","inequality","gender","diversity","higher-education","crisis"],"ddc":["300"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"type":"journal_article","publication":"Journal of Banking and Finance","abstract":[{"text":"Employing four event dates of the U.S. “Troubled Asset Relief Program” (TARP) this paper empirically investigates the impact of the first announcement of TARP (September 19, 2008), the announcement of revised TARP (October 14, 2008), respective capital infusions under TARP-CPP and capital repayments on changes in shareholder value and risk exposure of 125 supported U.S. banks as perceived by the capital market through share price reactions for an entire sample period from September 19, 2008 to June 16, 2010.
