text: "Modern-day communication has become more and more digital. While this comes
with many advantages such as a more efficient economy, it has also created more
and more opportunities for various adversaries to manipulate communication or
eavesdrop on it. The Snowden revelations in 2013 further highlighted the seriousness
of these threats. To protect the communication of people, companies, and states
from such threats, we require cryptography with strong security guarantees.\r\nDifferent
applications may require different security properties from cryptographic schemes.
For most applications, however, so-called adaptive security is considered a reasonable
minimal requirement of security. Cryptographic schemes with adaptive security
remain secure in the presence of an adversary that can corrupt communication partners
to respond to messages of the adversaries choice, while the adversary may choose
the messages based on previously observed interactions.\r\nWhile cryptography
is associated the most with encryption, this is only one of many primitives that
are essential for the security of digital interactions. This thesis presents novel
identity-based encryption (IBE) schemes and verifiable random functions (VRFs)
that achieve adaptive security as outlined above. Moreover, the cryptographic
schemes presented in this thesis are proven secure in the standard model. That
is without making use of idealized models like the random oracle model."

text: When it comes to increased digitization in the health care domain, privacy
is a relevant topic nowadays. This relates to patient data, electronic health
records or physician reviews published online, for instance. There exist different
approaches to the protection of individuals’ privacy, which focus on the anonymization
and masking of personal information subsequent to their mining. In the medical
domain in particular, measures to protect the privacy of patients are of high
importance due to the amount of sensitive data that is involved (e.g. age, gender,
illnesses, medication). While privacy breaches in structured data can be detected
more easily, disclosure in written texts is more difficult to find automatically
due to the unstructured nature of natural language. Therefore, we take a detailed
look at existing research on areas related to privacy protection. Likewise, we
review approaches to the automatic detection of privacy disclosure in different
types of medical data. We provide a survey of several studies concerned with privacy
breaches in the medical domain with a focus on Physician Review Websites (PRWs).
Finally, we briefly develop implications and directions for further research.

text: "This paper discusses the findings of an empirical study that explores the
relationship between study-abroad experiences, learner identity, and pronunciation.
We argue that the role of pronunciation as a personal domain of\r\nmeaning-making
warrants more attention than it has hitherto received. To this end, we investigate
the narratives of Canadian learners, studying abroad in Germany, in relation to
discourses of language learning, culture, and identity,\r\nusing a Critical Discourse
Analysis approach. Our data, which we gained from semi-structured interviews and
e-journals, shows that learners’ perceptions of pronunciation are closely linked
to their views of the native-speaker ideal, impacting their self-constructions
and interpretations of learning experience. In conclusion, we argue for a more
differentiated understanding of pronunciation and its implications for language
    teaching and study abroad."

text: 'Nowadays, providing employees with failure-free access to various systems,
applications and services is a crucial factor for organizations? success as disturbances
potentially inhibit smooth workflows and thereby harm productivity. However, it
is a challenging task to assign access rights to employees? accounts within a
satisfying time frame. In addition, the management of multiple accounts and identities
can be very onerous and time consuming for the responsible administrator and therefore
expensive for the organization. In order to meet these challenges, firms decide
to invest in introducing an Identity and Access Management System (IAMS) that
supports the organization by using policies to assign permissions to accounts,
groups, and roles. In practice, since various versions of IAMSs exist, it is a
challenging task to decide upon introduction of an IAMS. The following study proposes
a first attempt of a decision support model for practitioners which considers
four alternatives: Introduction of an IAMS with Role-based Access Control RBAC)
or without and no introduction of IAMS again with or without RBAC. To underpin
the practical applicability of the proposed model, we parametrize and operationalize
it based on a real world use case using input from an expert interview.'
