All tweets with the keyword “Flüchtlinge” posted for a monthlong period following September 13, 2015, the day Germany decided to implement border controls, were collected (N = 763,752). The top 2,495 tweets according to number of retweets were selected for analysis. Differences between news media, public and private actor tweets in topics, tweet characteristics such as tone and opinion expression, links, and specific sentiments toward refugees were analyzed. We found strong differences between the tweets. Public actor tweets were the main source of positive sentiment toward refugees and the main information source on refugee support. News media tweets mostly reflected traditional journalistic norms of impartiality and objectivity, whereas private actor tweets were more diverse in sentiments toward refugees. Choices made by arrangers adapting music for domestic consumption – of instrumentation, abbreviation, or simplification – reflect the musical life of the 19th century, and can inform our understanding alongside contemporary accounts such as newspapers, adverts, and diaries. This position paper gives the background, motivation, and proposed approach of research currently being undertaken within the Beethoven in the House project. This will include a study of Steiner editions of Beethoven’s 7th and 8th Symphonies and Wellingtons Sieg, making a detailed comparison between arrangements, systematically identifying a core common to multiple versions, and asking if this reflects the stated values of the publisher. A second survey will look for patterns across a larger sample of lesser-known and poorly catalogued scores, collating emergent indicators of arrangers’ motivations within a narrative of the domestic market – the music industry of its day. Both studies will innovate digital methods which characterise arrangements as music encodings, including ‘sparse’ approaches to notation and annotation.","lang":"eng"}],"editor":[{"first_name":"Stefan","last_name":"Münnich","full_name":"Münnich, Stefan"},{"first_name":"David","last_name":"Rizo","full_name":"Rizo, David"}],"publication":"Music Encoding Conference Proceedings 2021","type":"conference","doi":"10.17613/389b-xx73","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:45995/"}],"title":"Beethoven in the House: Digital Studies of Domestic Music Arrangements","date_created":"2024-08-28T11:42:27Z","author":[{"first_name":"Kevin R.","last_name":"Page","full_name":"Page, Kevin R."},{"first_name":"Johannes","full_name":"Kepper, Johannes","id":"1684","last_name":"Kepper","orcid":"0000-0003-4891-260X"},{"full_name":"Siegert, Christine","last_name":"Siegert","first_name":"Christine"},{"first_name":"Andrew","last_name":"Hankinson","full_name":"Hankinson, Andrew"},{"first_name":"David","full_name":"Lewis, David","last_name":"Lewis"}],"date_updated":"2024-08-28T14:10:51Z","publisher":"Humanities Commons","oa":"1","page":"117–123","citation":{"ama":"Page KR, Kepper J, Siegert C, Hankinson A, Lewis D. By comparing different witnesses, they seek to identify variation, describe dependencies, and ultimately understand the genesis and transmission of (musical) works. Obviously, the need for such comparison is independent from the medium in which a musical work is manifested. In computing, comparing files for difference is a common task, and the well-known Unix utility diff is almost 46 years old. However, diff, like many other such tools, operates on plain text. While many music encoding formats based on plain text exist, formats used in the field of Digital Humanities are typically based on XML. There are dedicated algorithms for comparing XML as well, but they only focus on the syntax of XML, but not the semantic structures modelled into such standards as MEI. MEI seeks to describe musical structures, and the XML syntax is just a means to express those structures. A diff tool for music should focus on comparing musical structures, but not the specifics of their serialization into a file format. In {Beethovens Werkstatt}, a 16-year project focussed on exploring the concepts and requirements of digital genetic editions of music, based on and arguing with examples from Ludwig van Beethoven, a case-bound diff tool for music was developed. The following paper discusses how that specific tool can be generalized, and which use cases such a tool may support."}],"editor":[{"last_name":"De Luca","full_name":"De Luca, Elsa","first_name":"Elsa"},{"first_name":"Julia","last_name":"Flanders","full_name":"Flanders, Julia"}],"status":"public","publication":"Music Encoding Conference Proceedings 2020","type":"conference"},{"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.15463/music-1","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"10.15463/music-1","title":"Music Encoding Conference Proceedings 2015, 2016 and 2017","date_created":"2024-08-28T11:48:09Z","date_updated":"2024-08-28T13:58:21Z","publisher":"Bavarian State Library (BSB)","oa":"1","citation":{"apa":"Di Bacco, G., Kepper, J., & Roland, P. Currently, this problem is most commonly addressed by manually devising means of enriching an input dataset. The few tools that aim at supporting this endeavour usually focus on supporting the manual definition of enrichment pipelines. In this paper, we present a supervised learning approach based on a refinement operator for enriching RDF datasets. We show how we can use exemplary descriptions of enriched resources to generate accurate enrichment pipelines. We evaluate our approach against eight manually defined enrichment pipelines and show that our approach can learn accurate pipelines even when provided with a small number of training examples."}],"user_id":"67234","_id":"29026","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["2015 group\\_aksw sys:relevantFor:geoknow sys:relevantFor:infai sys:relevantFor:bis ngonga simba dice sherif group\\_aksw geoknow deer lehmann MOLE"]},{"author":[{"last_name":"Stadler","full_name":"Stadler, Claus","first_name":"Claus"},{"last_name":"Unbehauen","full_name":"Unbehauen, Joerg","first_name":"Joerg"},{"last_name":"Westphal","full_name":"Westphal, Patrick","first_name":"Patrick"},{"full_name":"Sherif, Mohamed","id":"67234","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9927-2203","last_name":"Sherif","first_name":"Mohamed"},{"first_name":"Jens","last_name":"Lehmann","full_name":"Lehmann, Jens"}],"date_created":"2021-12-17T10:04:19Z","date_updated":"2023-08-16T09:36:55Z","title":"Simplified RDB2RDF Mapping","citation":{"apa":"Stadler, C., Unbehauen, J., Westphal, P., Sherif, M., & Lehmann, J. In particular, mapping languages for the conversion of databases to RDF knowledge bases have been developed and standardized in the form of R2RML. In this article, we first review those mapping languages and then devise work towards a unified formal model for them. Based on this, we present the Sparqlification Mapping Language (SML), which provides an intuitive way to declare mappings based on SQL VIEWS and SPARQL construct queries. We show that SML has the same expressivity as R2RML by enumerating the language features and show the correspondences, and we outline how one syntax can be converted into the other. A conducted user study for this paper juxtaposing SML and R2RML provides evidence that SML is a more compact syntax which is easier to understand and read and thus lowers the barrier to offer SPARQL access to relational databases.","lang":"eng"}]},{"year":"2015","citation":{"ama":"Sherif M, Ngonga Ngomo A-C. Consequently, millions of links can potentially exist among such datasets. While parallel implementations of link discovery approaches have been developed in the past, load balancing approaches for local implementations of link discovery algorithms have been paid little attention to. In this paper, we thus present a novel load balancing technique for link discovery on parallel hardware based on particle-swarm optimization. We combine this approach with the Orchid algorithm for geo-spatial linking and evaluate it on real and artificial datasets. Our evaluation suggests that while naïve approaches can be super-linear on small data sets, our deterministic particle swarm optimization outperforms both naïve and classical load balancing approaches such as greedy load balancing on large datasets."}],"status":"public","type":"conference","publication":"SEMANTiCS 2015","keyword":["2015 sys:relevantFor:geoknow geoknow ngonga sherif simba dice group\\_aksw sys:relevantFor:infai sys:relevantFor:bis SIMBA limes"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"29033","user_id":"67234"},{"year":"2015","page":"51–78","citation":{"short":"J.
