Self-pierce riveting has become a prevalent technique for sheet metal assembly, especially in automotive applications. Achieving proper joint geometry and adequate load-bearing capacity depends on appropriate tool selection and precise process control. Material properties and condition also play a significant role in process performance. To accommodate the inevitable variations in component characteristics during production, a robust and stable joining process is essential. The study focuses on investigating the influence of preformed joining partners on the joining process and the joint's load capacity. An EN AW-6014 in T4 condition, as well as an HCT590X, are used as materials for this study. For this purpose, an exemplary process chain consisting of the steps of performing, joining, and shear load testing is studied. Each process step is implemented using an FE model to predict the outcome of subsequent steps. For analysis of the influence of pre-strain, an optimisation software is used to plan and execute variations of the process. These variations are used to create a meta-model that can describe the relationships between pre-forming and characteristic parameters of subsequent process steps. The resulting model is validated by comparing simulation and experimental data. Finally, in a novel approach, the robustness of the presented process chain is analyzed in terms of a tolerable performance level for the joining partners."}],"date_created":"2026-03-16T12:30:39Z","department":[{"_id":"9"}],"keyword":["Self-pierce riveting","FE modelling","Plastic pre-deformation","Meta modelling"],"type":"journal_article","status":"public","_id":"64985","publisher":"Elsevier BV","volume":13,"user_id":"76631","citation":{"short":"J.-P. Originally developed for mobile Augmented Reality (mAR), PEARL was adapted for MR to offer a more immersive and intuitive experience through hand and gesture controls. Since many students lack experience with MR devices, a user-friendly onboarding system is essential. The study aims to redesign PEARL’s user interface and onboarding experience, evaluating how intuitive interaction elements impact usability. First, a literature review will identify existing usability guidelines for MR applications, which will guide the redesign of the interface. This new version will then be tested with students through a user study. Feedback will be collected via an online survey to assess the onboarding and user experience, and the findings will be used to refine the design further. The expected outcome is an improved onboarding process and interface, making PEARL accessible even for MR novices, enhancing their ability to interact with 3D objects in a real-world setting. Ultimately, the study aims to provide best practices for developing intuitive MR interfaces and effective onboarding experiences, especially in educational contexts.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems","keyword":["Meta Quest 3","Augmented Reality","Mixed Reality","PEARL","Electrical Engineering","Laboratory Training","Onboarding","User Experience","User Interface","Heuristics"],"type":"book_chapter","department":[{"_id":"34"},{"_id":"3"},{"_id":"300"}],"date_created":"2026-04-29T09:12:41Z","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-04-29T09:23:02Z","intvolume":" 2","year":"2026","title":"Designing and Evaluating the Usability and Onboarding for a Mixed-Reality Application: A Case Study with PEARL (Paderborn Electrical Engineering AR Laboratory) and Meta Quest 3","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2367-3370","2367-3389"],"isbn":["9783032073181","9783032073198"]},"author":[{"id":"11763","last_name":"Alptekin","first_name":"Mesut","orcid":"0009-0004-8545-1165","full_name":"Alptekin, Mesut"},{"full_name":"Münstermann, Daniel","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Münstermann"},{"first_name":"Katrin","last_name":"Temmen","full_name":"Temmen, Katrin"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-032-07319-8_19","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"series_title":"Smart Technologies for an All-Electric Society"},{"abstract":[{"text":"As digital products become increasingly embedded in organisational operations, cyber resilience – the ability to anticipate, withstand, recover from and adapt to cyber disruptions – has become essential. This paper investigates how professionals in German organisations interpret cyber resilience within the software development lifecycle and how socio-technical factors influence its implementation. Drawing on the MITRE Cyber Resiliency Engineering Framework for data collection and coding on Socio-Technical Systems as an interpretive lens, the study adopts a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews with 14 professionals across five organisations. The findings reveal a pronounced socio-technical imbalance: while technical measures centred on anticipate and withstand are comparatively established, the corresponding social factors – shared understanding, dedicated responsibility structures, and systematic learning – remain underdeveloped. These conditions are compounded by resource constraints and the absence of strategic prioritisation. Six exploratory hypotheses capture these patterns and offer empirically grounded starting points for future research on product-level cyber resilience.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"ieee":"S. Using responses from 1, 309 parents in Australia, England, Germany, and Norway it examines parental satisfaction with mainstream and special schools, and parents' school placement preferences, including willingness to change schools. Parental satisfaction is assessed as an overall evaluation of how well the child's school placement meets their needs, without distinguishing between specific aspects of the school experience. The study also explores whether the child's level of support is associated with these perceptions. Based on a human rights perspective, we highlight parents’ perspectives and their role in the development of more inclusive education systems, without promoting one model of schooling over another. Methods – Responses from 1, 309 parents across four countries were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Non-parametric tests compared satisfaction across school types, chi-squared tests assessed associations with willingness to change schools, and binary logistic regression examined whether level of support was associated with parents' willingness to change school placement. Results – Parents in England, Germany, and Norway reported higher satisfaction with special schools than with mainstream schools. No statistically significant difference was observed in Australia. Parents of children in special schools were less likely to report considering changing schools, particularly in England and Norway. Higher pupil support needs were significantly associated with parents’ willingness to change school across the combined sample. These findings suggest that parental satisfaction with their child's education and their preferences regarding school placement may be shaped by both school type and how well pupils' support needs are perceived to be met. Discussion and conclusion – The role of parents as key stakeholders in developing inclusive education systems, consistent with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is emphasised. While parents in special schools in three of the four countries reported higher satisfaction, the reasons for this remain unclear. Understanding the factors shaping parental satisfaction is essential for developing inclusive and responsive learning environments. These findings offer a starting point for future research on how education systems can better align policy commitments with families’ lived experiences."}],"publication":"Frontiers in Education","keyword":["human rights","inclusion","inclusive education","international study","parents","school development","special educational needs"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"556"}],"date_created":"2026-07-14T08:14:19Z","date_updated":"2026-08-21T11:22:39Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 11","article_type":"original","title":"Parental (dis)satisfaction with school placement to achieve inclusion: a cross-country comparison","year":"2026","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2504-284X"]},"author":[{"last_name":"Johansson","first_name":"Veslemøy Maria Fossum","full_name":"Johansson, Veslemøy Maria Fossum"},{"full_name":"Gibson, Suanne","first_name":"Suanne","last_name":"Gibson"},{"first_name":"Stuart","last_name":"Woodcock","full_name":"Woodcock, Stuart"},{"full_name":"Dechsling, Anders","first_name":"Anders","last_name":"Dechsling"},{"id":"77972","full_name":"Kullmann, Harry","orcid":"0000-0001-5488-5105","first_name":"Harry","last_name":"Kullmann"},{"first_name":"Marte Karoline","last_name":"Herrebrøden","full_name":"Herrebrøden, Marte Karoline"},{"first_name":"Line Britt","last_name":"Ulriksen","full_name":"Ulriksen, Line Britt"},{"first_name":"Anders","last_name":"Nordahl-Hansen","full_name":"Nordahl-Hansen, Anders"}],"doi":"10.3389/feduc.2026.1710708","article_number":"1710708","language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"publication":"Soziale Medien – wie sie wurden, was sie sind","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Twitter ist jetzt X und befindet sich auf dem absteigenden Ast. The future existence and success of the organization is depending on selected product ideas. To find the best fitting idea for an organization, it needs evaluation criteria representing the organizations mission Therefore, this study focuses on a holistic overview about evaluation criteria and on supporting organizations in the process to select its individual evaluation criteria. Based on a literature study, existing approaches regarding evaluation criteria in product idea selection are identified and a list of evaluation criteria is reworked. Using the list of evaluation criteria, a prioritization method is created. Within an interview with experts in innovation management, the method is discussed regarding usability and the level of assistance in product idea selection. These programmes’ main characteristic and greatest challenge is their integration of academic and vocational learning. So far, this challenge has frequently been stated without specifying its exact nature and consequences for learners. The present study addresses this pedagogical research gap and examines the extent of variation in the degree of integration among dual study programmes. With reference to curriculum theory, the study develops an empirical typology of curricular integration in dual programmes. The data sample consists of 152 programmes at (dual) universities and universities of applied sciences. Data is analysed using hierarchical cluster analysis. Results indicate that the currently prevailing forms of curricular integration should best be differentiated according to five types. The five overlapping types of integration are located on a continuum ranging from parallelism through organisational linking to full curricular integration targeted immediately at students’ personal integration. The analysis confirms that there are problems with complying with integration standards set on the policy level. Above all, the study offers new insights on what marks the diverse integration landscape of dual study programmes. It proves that approaches to integration are more differentiated than previous research has shown.","lang":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s10734-022-00889-7"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/s10734-022-00889-7","year":"2022","title":"Curricular integration of academic and vocational education: a theory-based empirical typology of dual study programmes in Germany","author":[{"id":"81839","full_name":"Mordhorst, Lisa","first_name":"Lisa","last_name":"Mordhorst"},{"first_name":"Tobias","orcid":" https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9262-5646","last_name":"Jenert","full_name":"Jenert, Tobias","id":"71994"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0018-1560","1573-174X"]},"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2025-12-08T10:44:17Z","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 85","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Mordhorst_Jenert_2022, title={Curricular integration of academic and vocational education: a theory-based empirical typology of dual study programmes in Germany}, volume={85}, DOI={10.1007/s10734-022-00889-7}, number={6}, journal={Higher Education}, publisher={Springer Science and Business Media LLC}, author={Mordhorst, Lisa and Jenert, Tobias}, year={2022}, pages={1257–1279} }","ama":"Mordhorst L, Jenert T. For selecting the most promising ideas, several methods exist which each focus on a certain aspect. Due to the characteristics of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) such as limited resources, these enterprises have special requirements on methods for selecting ideas. In this study, criteria of SMEs for idea selection are deducted from SME-characteristics. Methods for idea selection are tested for fulfillment of these criteria and the results are combined in a matrix. Together with a guideline, a tool for idea selection in innovation management of SMEs is developed. The results are validated in the context of innovation management in SMEs. As a baseline result, we provide evidence for significantly positive cumulative average abnormal CDS spread changes for both, European and North American acquirers suggesting that CDS investors perceive an increase in the acquiring firms’ credit risk exposures due to M&A announcements. Our baseline finding holds under several robustness checks, especially when controlling for the robustness of the empirical design. For this purpose, combines event-study estimations with the marginal treatment effect framework to allow for effect heterogeneity. This helps to decompose event-study estimates into true medium-run effects of retirement and effects driven by differential retirement preferences. Our results suggest considerable negative effects of retirement on cognitive abilities. We also detect substantial effect heterogeneity: Those who retire as early as possible are not affected while those who retire later exhibit negative effects.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-08-16T10:02:17Z","department":[{"_id":"281"},{"_id":"475"}],"keyword":["Cognitive abilities","retirement","event study","marginal treatment effects"],"type":"working_paper","author":[{"full_name":"Schmitz, Hendrik","first_name":"Hendrik","last_name":"Schmitz","id":"48879"},{"id":"64661","full_name":"Westphal, Matthias","first_name":"Matthias","last_name":"Westphal"}],"year":"2021","status":"public","title":"The dynamic and heterogeneous effects of retirement on cognitive decline","intvolume":" 918","date_updated":"2023-08-20T17:54:49Z","_id":"46537","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publisher":"RWI - Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung, Ruhr-University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, University of Duisburg-Essen","series_title":" Ruhr Economic Papers","volume":918,"user_id":"53779"},{"oa":"1","place":"Münster, New York","citation":{"apa":"Eusterbrock, L., Godau, M., Haenisch, M., Krebs, M., & Rolle, C. In our grounded theory study (Charmaz, 2014) we collected data using interviews, participant observation and videography. As exemplary cases, this article presents two analyses of the use of ‘inspiring places’ and ‘safe places’. We provide evidence for negative (cumulative) average abnormal stock returns due to tariff announcements during a symmetric three-day event window. We suggest that stock market investors expect adverse impacts of tariff impositions, e.g. a decrease in the companies' future cash flows and a threat of retaliation. The negative wealth effects are observed irrespective of whether the Trump administration announces safeguard tariffs to protect domestic firms or a retaliation is declared by foreign countries. Moreover, building several subsamples, we find that the adverse impact is mostly driven by announcements involving China and is associated with a variety of sector, tariff, trade and firm characteristics.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"chicago":"Wengerek, Sascha Tobias. Share Price Reactions to Tariff Imposition Announcements in the Trump Era - An Event Study of the Trade Conflict, 2020.","short":"S.T. We regard timing in two dimensions, namely the time of announcement in relation to the time of investment and the time of announcement in relation to the time of a fundamental security incident. The financial value of information security investments is assessed by examining the relationship between the investment announcements and their stock market reaction focusing on the two time dimensions. Using an event study methodology, we found that both dimensions influence the stock market return of the investing organization. Our results indicate that (1) after fundamental security incidents in a given industry, the stock price will react more positively to a firm’s announcement of actual information security investments than to announcements of the intention to invest; (2) the stock price will react more positively to a firm’s announcements of the intention to invest after the fundamental security incident compared to before; and (3) the stock price will react more positively to a firm’s announcements of actual information security investments after the fundamental security incident compared to before. Overall, the lowest abnormal return can be expected when the intention to invest is announced before a fundamental information security incident and the highest return when actual investing after a fundamental information security incident in the respective industry."}],"publication":"Journal of Information System Security","issue":"1"},{"volume":15,"user_id":"86519","_id":"35300","page":"195-208","status":"public","citation":{"short":"C. Small and medium sized brick-and- mortar stores, such as bakeries, butcher and flower shops, often share a common overarching loyalty program, organized by a third-party provider. Furthermore, these small shops have limited resources and often cannot afford complex BI tools. Out of these reasons we investigated how traditional brick-and- mortar stores can benefit from an expansion of service functionalities of a loyalty card provider. To answer this question, we cooperated with a cross-industry customer loyalty program in a polycentric region. The loyalty program was transformed from simple card-based solution to a mobile app for customers and a web- application for shop owners. The new solution offers additional BI services for performing data analytics and strengthening the position of brick-and-mortar stores. Participating shops can work together in order to increase sales and align marketing campaigns. Therefore, shopping data from 12 years, 55 shops, and 19,000 customers was analyzed."}],"date_created":"2023-01-10T08:39:45Z","type":"conference","keyword":["brick-and-mortar stores","business intelligence","case study","loyalty program"],"department":[{"_id":"195"},{"_id":"196"}],"title":"Extending Loyalty Programs with BI Functionalities A Case Study for Brick-and-Mortar Stores","year":"2020","status":"public","conference":{"name":"53th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-53)"},"author":[{"first_name":"Jan-Peter","last_name":"Kucklick","full_name":"Kucklick, Jan-Peter","id":"77066"},{"full_name":"Kamm, Michael Reiner","first_name":"Michael Reiner","last_name":"Kamm"},{"full_name":"Schneider, Johannes","first_name":"Johannes","last_name":"Schneider"},{"first_name":"Jan","last_name":"vom Brocke","full_name":"vom Brocke, Jan"}],"date_updated":"2023-01-12T05:32:16Z","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/server/api/core/bitstreams/335317f1-8fb6-4561-9faa-27e6a7d29771/content"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"35660","user_id":"77066"},{"page":"270-286","publisher":"Informa UK Limited","_id":"35662","user_id":"77066","volume":38,"status":"public","citation":{"mla":"Kamm, Michael Reiner, et al. “Data Mining for Small Shops: Empowering Brick-and-Mortar Stores through BI Functionalities of a Loyalty Program1.” Information Systems Management, vol. 38, no. 4, Informa UK Limited, 2020, pp. 270–86, doi:10.1080/10580530.2020.1855486.","bibtex":"@article{Kamm_Kucklick_Schneider_vom Brocke_2020, title={Data mining for small shops: Empowering brick-and-mortar stores through BI functionalities of a loyalty program1}, volume={38}, DOI={10.1080/10580530.2020.1855486}, number={4}, journal={Information Systems Management}, publisher={Informa UK Limited}, author={Kamm, Michael Reiner and Kucklick, Jan-Peter and Schneider, Johannes and vom Brocke, Jan}, year={2020}, pages={270–286} }","ama":"Kamm MR, Kucklick J-P, Schneider J, vom Brocke J. This study investigates how brick-and-mortar stores can benefit from an expansion of service functionalities of a cross-industry loyalty card provider. Digitalizing the loyalty program created new opportunities, while the analysis of shopping data of 13 years, 19,000 customers, and 55 shops empowered data-based decision support."}]}]
