How-ever, the reliable and cost-efficient joining of aluminium components remains a challenge. Mechanical joining methods, such as riveting, are frequently used in the automotive and aerospace construction industries. Rivets are made from heat-treated steels. Compared to steel, the use of aluminium materials for fasten-ers offers several advantages in terms of joining properties, particularly in terms of recyclability, corrosion resistance and reduced weight of the joined structure. Additionally, the manufacturing process is shorter since aluminium fasteners do not require coating. However, aluminium rivets can often not be used due to the insufficient mechanical strength of the fastener material in relation to the joining component materials.\r\nThis study systematically investigates the requirements for using solid alu-minium self-piercing rivets. The influence of rivet geometry adjustments on the joint quality is analysed using numerical simulation. The results are used to derive and evaluate an optimised rivet geometry for joining pure aluminium sheets. On this basis, solid self-drilling rivets with optimised geometry are manufactured from particle-reinforced aluminium produced in a continuous extrusion process by machining. The integration of particles increases the material’s strength. Exper-imental tests are conducted to evaluate the use of optimised solid self-piercing rivets. The quality-relevant parameters are determined and evaluated based on macrographs of the joints."}],"publication":"Proceedings in Engineering Mechanics"},{"oa":"1","citation":{"mla":"Schröer, Franz, and Claudia Tenberge. “‘They Really Need to Handle, Inspect, and Experience Things.’” Linköping Electronic Conference Proceedings, vol. 218, Linköping University Electronic Press, 2026, doi:10.3384/ecp213.1455.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Schröer_Tenberge_2026, title={“They Really Need to Handle, Inspect, and Experience Things”}, volume={218}, DOI={10.3384/ecp213.1455}, booktitle={Linköping Electronic Conference Proceedings}, publisher={Linköping University Electronic Press}, author={Schröer, Franz and Tenberge, Claudia}, year={2026} }","ama":"Schröer F, Tenberge C. “They Really Need to Handle, Inspect, and Experience Things.” In: Linköping Electronic Conference Proceedings. These needs are—according to Ainscow’s (2007) inclusive turn—not primarily ‘special educational needs’, but diverse needs of all learners. For the rather segregated German educational system, this endeavour applies especially to primary education, where needs are still developing and pupils are not yet assigned to different types of schooling according to their needs and abilities.\r\n\r\nDespite a substantial amount of research on pupils’ basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and social relatedness (Ryan et al., 2022), strategies that technology education teachers apply in this regard are not yet well understood. Besides interventional studies on technology education, indicating effectiveness of self‑directed and action‑oriented teaching and learning, there is a dearth of research on how teachers address different needs as a routine.\r\n\r\nThe purpose of the presented study is therefore to investigate and systematize actions and strategies teachers apply, and to specify how pupils' needs are considered when teaching technology education on a given topic.\r\n\r\nThe overall study used a mixed-methods approach to the question how pupils’ needs are characterized by themselves and by their teachers, and how they were taken into account in a lesson adapted and delivered by the teachers. In the sub-study presented here, participating primary school teachers were interviewed about their consideration of pupils’ needs whilst planning and conducting a technology education unit on the functionality of robots.\r\n\r\nThe results gained from qualitative content analysis of the interviews indicate that although the anticipation of different needs is considered challenging, teachers possess a substantiate amount of practices and strategies to take them into account.\r\n\r\nThe paper systematizes the practices teachers described in structured interviews within strategies and discusses the contribution of taking basic needs into account for inclusive technology education.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://ecp.ep.liu.se/index.php/patt/article/view/1455","open_access":"1"}],"alternative_title":["On Teachers’ Practices and Strategies to Teach Technology Inclusively at Primary Level"],"doi":"10.3384/ecp213.1455","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1650-3686","1650-3740"]},"author":[{"last_name":"Schröer","first_name":"Franz","full_name":"Schröer, Franz"},{"first_name":"Claudia","last_name":"Tenberge","full_name":"Tenberge, Claudia"}],"year":"2026","title":"“They Really Need to Handle, Inspect, and Experience Things”","intvolume":" 218","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-06-30T13:09:02Z"},{"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"series_title":"Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-83520-9_8"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-031-83520-9_8","author":[{"id":"68949","first_name":"Johannes","last_name":"Schäfers","full_name":"Schäfers, Johannes"},{"last_name":"Temmen","first_name":"Katrin","full_name":"Temmen, Katrin","id":"30086"}],"publication_identifier":{"isbn":["9783031835193","9783031835209"],"issn":["2367-3370","2367-3389"]},"year":"2025","title":"The Influence of an Immersive-Collaborative Learning Unit on the Technology Acceptance of 5G and AR of Industrial Mechanic Students","intvolume":" 1281","date_updated":"2026-03-17T13:49:57Z","publication_status":"published","date_created":"2026-03-17T13:39:04Z","type":"book_chapter","keyword":["5G","Key Technology","TAM · Augmented Reality","VET"],"publication":"Proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL2024), Volume 4","abstract":[{"text":"Despite its status as a key enabling technology, the adoption of 5G in\r\nindustry remains limited, mainly due to a lack of expertise, which can be addressed\r\nby incorporating 5G training into vocational schools. Since Augmented Reality\r\n(AR) faces similar challenges, it is used as the 5G application. This research aims\r\nto determine the extent to which a learning unit using 5G and AR for collaborative\r\nwork can increase the intention to use these technologies in the vocational setting\r\nand gathers the factors that make up 5G acceptance. It is based on the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2). The sample includes 23 industrial mechanics\r\nstudents who participated in the developed learning unit. All items are scored on\r\nseven-tiered Likert scales (0 “totally disagree”; 6 “totally agree”).\r\nThe results showed a non-significant change in behavioural intention to use\r\n5G, with a mean of 4.95 (SD: 1.18) for the pre-test and 4.43 (SD: 1.68) for the posttest. The change in intention to use AR did not change significantly either, from\r\n3.12 (SD: 1.38) at pre-test to 3.37 (SD: 1.16) at post-test. The factors Perceived\r\nUsefulness, Image, and Relevance had the lowest mean scores, indicating areas for\r\ntargeted improvement. The significant change in Output Quality ratings is likely to\r\nreflect initial overestimation by students. The difference in Behavioural Intentions\r\nbetween 5G and AR suggests that AR may not be an effective technology for\r\nincreasing 5G adoption in educational contexts. One recommendation is to address\r\n5G in the learning unit not only indirectly.","lang":"eng"}],"_id":"65032","publisher":"Springer Nature Switzerland","page":"84 – 91","editor":[{"last_name":"Auer","first_name":"Michael E.","full_name":"Auer, Michael E."},{"last_name":"Rüütmann","first_name":"Tiia","full_name":"Rüütmann, Tiia"}],"volume":1281,"user_id":"68949","conference":{"end_date":"2024-09-27","location":"Tallinn","start_date":"2024-09-24","name":"International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning"},"status":"public","place":"Cham","citation":{"mla":"Schäfers, Johannes, and Katrin Temmen. “The Influence of an Immersive-Collaborative Learning Unit on the Technology Acceptance of 5G and AR of Industrial Mechanic Students.” Proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL2024), Volume 4, edited by Michael E. How to meet this need is an open question, but “behavioral insights” are likely components of future policy designs. Applying well-established behavioral insights to low-income house- holds raises questions of transportability as they are typically underrepresented in the existing evidence base. We illustrate this problem by conducting a randomized field experiment on scalable, low-cost design elements to improve program take-up in one of the world’s largest en- ergy efficiency assistance programs. Observing investment decisions of over 1,800 low-income households in Germany’s “Refrigerator Replacement Program”, we find that the transportabil- ity problem is real and consequential: First, the most effective policy design would not have been chosen based on existing behavioral insights. Second, design elements favored by these insights either prove ineffective or even backfire, violating ‘do no harm’ principles of policy advice. Systematic testing remains crucial for addressing the transportability problem, partic- ularly for policies targeting vulnerable groups.\r\n","lang":"eng"}],"file":[{"file_id":"56495","content_type":"application/pdf","relation":"main_file","date_updated":"2024-10-10T12:25:25Z","file_name":"755,_october_2024.pdf","access_level":"open_access","file_size":3239473,"date_created":"2024-10-10T12:25:25Z","creator":"mkestern"}],"date_created":"2024-10-10T12:25:31Z","keyword":["Transportability","low-income households","field experiment","randomized controlled trial","governmental welfare programs","energy efficiency","technology adoption"],"type":"working_paper","oa":"1"},{"intvolume":" 3","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-10-03T09:11:14Z","author":[{"last_name":"Niemann","first_name":"Valerie A.","full_name":"Niemann, Valerie A."},{"full_name":"Huck, Marten","last_name":"Huck","first_name":"Marten"},{"id":"84268","full_name":"Steinrück, Hans-Georg","last_name":"Steinrück","first_name":"Hans-Georg","orcid":"0000-0001-6373-0877"},{"full_name":"Toney, Michael F.","first_name":"Michael F.","last_name":"Toney"},{"full_name":"Tarpeh, William A.","last_name":"Tarpeh","first_name":"William A."},{"full_name":"Bone, Sharon E.","last_name":"Bone","first_name":"Sharon E."}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2690-0637","2690-0637"]},"title":"X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Reveals Mechanisms of Calcium and Silicon Fouling on Reverse Osmosis Membranes Used in Wastewater Reclamation","year":"2023","doi":"10.1021/acsestwater.3c00144","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication":"ACS ES&T Water","department":[{"_id":"633"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["Water Science and Technology","Environmental Chemistry","Chemistry (miscellaneous)","Chemical Engineering (miscellaneous)"],"date_created":"2023-07-01T15:47:46Z","status":"public","volume":3,"user_id":"84268","publisher":"American Chemical Society (ACS)","_id":"45826","page":"2627-2637","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Niemann_Huck_Steinrück_Toney_Tarpeh_Bone_2023, title={X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Reveals Mechanisms of Calcium and Silicon Fouling on Reverse Osmosis Membranes Used in Wastewater Reclamation}, volume={3}, DOI={10.1021/acsestwater.3c00144}, journal={ACS ES&T Water}, publisher={American Chemical Society (ACS)}, author={Niemann, Valerie A. and Huck, Marten and Steinrück, Hans-Georg and Toney, Michael F. and Tarpeh, William A. and Bone, Sharon E.}, year={2023}, pages={2627–2637} }","ama":"Niemann VA, Huck M, Steinrück H-G, Toney MF, Tarpeh WA, Bone SE. Millions of people struggle with depression each year, but for many, the disorder goes undiagnosed or untreated. Over the last decade, early depression detection on social media emerged as an interdisciplinary research field. However, there is still a gap in detecting hesitant, depression-susceptible individuals with minimal direct depressive signals at an early stage. We, therefore, take up this open point and leverage posts from Reddit to fill the addressed gap. Our results demonstrate the potential of contemporary Transformer architectures in yielding promising predictive capabilities for mental health research. Furthermore, we investigate the model’s interpretability using a surrogate and a topic modeling approach. Based on our findings, we consider this work as a further step towards developing a better understanding of mental eHealth and hope that our results can support the development of future technologies."}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/items/2ddab486-5d2f-4302-8de3-a8b24017da3d","open_access":"1"}],"_id":"45270","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"60721","year":"2023","title":"Early Depression Detection with Transformer Models: Analyzing the Relationship between Linguistic and Psychology-Based Features","status":"public","author":[{"id":"87673","full_name":"Halimeh, Haya","first_name":"Haya","last_name":"Halimeh"},{"last_name":"Caron","first_name":"Matthew","full_name":"Caron, Matthew","id":"60721"},{"id":"72849","full_name":"Müller, Oliver","last_name":"Müller","first_name":"Oliver"}],"conference":{"end_date":"2023-01-06","start_date":"2023-01-03","name":"Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences"},"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-01-10T15:16:37Z"},{"doi":"10.1016/j.combustflame.2023.112820","article_number":"112820","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-03-27T16:23:48Z","intvolume":" 257","title":"Resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization detection of aromatics formation in fuel-rich flames","year":"2023","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0010-2180"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Kasper, Tina","last_name":"Kasper","first_name":"Tina"},{"first_name":"Nils","last_name":"Hansen","full_name":"Hansen, Nils"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["General Physics and Astronomy","Energy Engineering and Power Technology","Fuel Technology","General Chemical Engineering","General Chemistry"],"department":[{"_id":"728"}],"date_created":"2024-03-27T16:07:31Z","publication":"Combustion and Flame","user_id":"94562","volume":257,"_id":"53074","publisher":"Elsevier BV","status":"public","citation":{"chicago":"Kasper, Tina, and Nils Hansen. “Resonance Enhanced Multiphoton Ionization Detection of Aromatics Formation in Fuel-Rich Flames.” Combustion and Flame 257 (2023). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.combustflame.2023.112820.","short":"T. While IS research has investigated reputation systems mainly\r\nas review systems on online platforms for business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, no proper solutions\r\nhave been developed for business-to-business (B2B) transactions yet. We use blockchain technology to\r\npropose a new class of reputation systems that apply ratings as voluntary bonus payments: Before a\r\ntransaction is performed, customers commit to pay a bonus that is granted if a service provider has\r\nperformed a service properly. As opposed to rival reputation systems that build on cumulated ratings\r\nor reviews, our system enables monetized reputation mechanisms that are inextricably linked with online\r\ntransactions. We expect this system class to provide more trustworthy ratings, which might reduce\r\nagency costs and serve quality providers to establish a reputation towards new customers, building on\r\nsecond-order trust."}],"quality_controlled":"1","publication":"Proceedings of 31st European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2023)","citation":{"mla":"Hemmrich, Simon. “Business Reputation Systems Based on Blockchain Technology—A Risky Advance.” Proceedings of 31st European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2023), 2023.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Hemmrich_2023, title={Business Reputation Systems based on Blockchain Technology—A Risky Advance}, booktitle={Proceedings of 31st European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2023)}, author={Hemmrich, Simon}, year={2023} }","ama":"Hemmrich S.
