  abstract     = {{Within this paper, we will describe a new approach to customer interaction management by integrating social networking channels into existing business processes. Until now, contact center agents still read these messages and forward them to the persons in charge of customer’s in the company. But with the introduction of Web 2.0 and social networking clients are more likely to communicate with the companies via Facebook and Twitter instead of filling data in contact forms or sending e-mail requests. In order to maintain an active communication with international clients via social media, the multilingual consumer contacts have to be categorized and then automatically assigned to the corresponding business processes (e.g. technicalservice, shipping, marketing, and accounting). This allows the company to follow general trends in customer opinions on the Internet, but also record two-sided communication for customer relationship management.}},

  abstract     = {{The paper proposes a modification of the standard maximum a posteriori (MAP) method for the estimation of the parameters of a Gaussian process for cases where the process is superposed by additive Gaussian observation errors of known variance. Simulations on artificially generated data demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. While reducing to the ordinary MAP approach in the absence of observation noise, the improvement becomes the more pronounced the larger the variance of the observation noise. The method is further extended to track the parameters in case of non-stationary Gaussian processes.}},

  abstract     = {{In this paper, we present a novel blocking matrix and fixed beamformer design for a generalized sidelobe canceler for speech enhancement in a reverberant enclosure. They are based on a new method for estimating the acoustical transfer function ratios in the presence of stationary noise. The estimation method relies on solving a generalized eigenvalue problem in each frequency bin. An adaptive eigenvector tracking utilizing the power iteration method is employed and shown to achieve a high convergence speed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed beamformer leads to better noise and interference reduction and reduced speech distortions compared to other blocking matrix designs from the literature.}},

  abstract     = {{In this work, a splitting and weighting scheme that allows for splitting a Gaussian density into a Gaussian mixture density (GMM) is extended to allow the mixture components to be arranged along arbitrary directions. The parameters of the Gaussian mixture are chosen such that the GMM and the original Gaussian still exhibit equal central moments up to an order of four. The resulting mixtures{\rq} covariances will have eigenvalues that are smaller than those of the covariance of the original distribution, which is a desirable property in the context of non-linear state estimation, since the underlying assumptions of the extended K ALMAN filter are better justified in this case. Application to speech feature enhancement in the context of noise-robust automatic speech recognition reveals the beneficial properties of the proposed approach in terms of a reduced word error rate on the Aurora 2 recognition task.}},

We proceed with a review of masking research, and the definition of the criteria of experimental protocols that demonstrate endogenous and exogenous orienting, respectively. Against this background of criteria, we assess studies of unconscious orienting and come to the conclusion that so far studies of unconscious orienting demonstrated endogenous feature-specific orienting.   abstract     = {{When two targets are presented in rapid succession, the first target (T1) is usually identified, but the second target (T2) is often missed. A remarkable exception to this 'attentional blink' occurs when T2 immediately follows the first T1, at lag 1. It is then often spared but reported in the wrong order—that is, before T1. These order reversals have led to the hypothesis that 'lag 1 sparing' occurs because the two targets merge into a single episodic representation. Here, we report evidence consistent with an alternative theory: T2 receives more attention than T1, leading to prior entry into working memory. Two experiments showed that the more T2 performance exceeded that for T1, the more order reversals were made. Furthermore, precuing T1 led to a shift in performance benefits from T2 to T1 and to an equivalent reduction in order reversals.   abstract     = {{Attended stimuli are perceived as occurring earlier than unattended stimuli. This phenomenon of prior entry is usually identified by a shift in the point of subjective simultaneity (PSS) in temporal order judgements (TOJs). According to its traditional psychophysical interpretation, the PSS coincides with the perception of simultaneity. This assumption is, however, questionable. Technically, the PSS represents the temporal interval between two stimuli at which the two alternative TOJs are equally likely. Thus it also seems possible that observers perceive not simultaneity, but uncertainty of temporal order. This possibility is supported by prior-entry studies, which find that perception of simultaneity is not very likely at the PSS. The present study tested the percept at the PSS in prior entry, using peripheral cues to orient attention. We found that manipulating attention caused varying temporal perceptions around the PSS.
