  abstract     = {{We investigate differences in bribing decisions among two generations from East and West Germany in a bribery game conducted as an online study (N=168). This way, we aim to explore moral considerations of individuals influenced by two formerly different institutional systems. We find a higher propensity to bribe among young Germans compared to the older generation. Young East Germans even reveal a slightly greater inclination to bribe than their West German counterparts. We conclude that preferences for personal favors may be induced among young East Germans given the tense relationship between market opportunities and conveyed cultural traits of a socialist imprint.}},

  abstract     = {{In this paper we consider the interactive processes by which an explainer and an explainee cooperate to produce an explanation, which we refer to as co-construction. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is concerned with the development of intelligent systems and robots that can explain and justify their actions, decisions, recommendations, and so on. However, the cooperative construction of explanations remains a key but under-explored issue. This short paper proposes an architecture for intelligent systems that promotes a co-constructive and interactive approach to explanation generation. By outlining its basic components and their specific roles, we aim to contribute to the advancement of XAI computational frameworks that actively engage users in the explanation process.}},

  abstract     = {{This study examines the effect of major tax reform on firms’ demand for internal tax department employees. Specifically, we analyze the effects of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) on the number of job postings and skill profiles for tax department positions in large U.S. firms. Understanding how tax reform affects the demand for tax employees is important for quantifying potential compliance costs and assessing how firms adjust their tax planning capacity in response to new regulations. Additionally, our findings provide insights into the evolving skill sets required in the context of technological change and intensifying competition for talent. To address our research question, we employ textual analyses and machine learning techniques to identify and classify approximately 30,000 tax-related job postings from 1,620 firms over the period of 2015-2020. Using a difference-in-differences research design, we find a 26.7% increase in the number of tax-related job postings in the three years following the TCJA enactment. This translates into approximately 1.5 new tax department employees, which, based on prior literature estimates of tax department size, implies a 21% increase in the size of the average tax department. Focusing on the dynamics, we find that this effect is concentrated in the second year after the reform. Consistent with increased compliance costs and new tax planning opportunities, we also find that firms seek tax department employees for both compliance and planning roles, with some evidence of greater demand for employees focused on tax compliance.}},

  abstract     = {{To model dynamical systems on networks with higher-order (non-pairwise) interactions, we recently introduced a new class of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) on hypernetworks. Here, we consider one-parameter synchrony breaking bifurcations in such ODEs. We call a synchrony breaking steady-state branch ‘reluctant’ if it is tangent to a synchrony space, but does not lie inside it. We prove that reluctant synchrony breaking is ubiquitous in hypernetwork systems, by constructing a large class of examples that support it. We also give an explicit formula for the order of tangency to the synchrony space of a reluctant steady-state branch.}},

  abstract     = {{Ferroelectric materials play a crucial role in a broad range of technologies due to their unique properties that are deeply connected to the pattern and behavior of their ferroelectric (FE) domains. Chief among them, barium titanate (BaTiO3; BTO) sees widespread applications such as in electronics but equally is a ferroelectric model system for fundamental research, e.g., to study the interplay of such FE domains, the domain walls (DWs), and their macroscopic properties, owed to BTO’s multiple and experimentally accessible phase transitions. Here, we employ Second Harmonic Generation Microscopy (SHGM) to in situ investigate the cubic-to-tetragonal (at ∼126°C) and the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic (at ∼5°C) phase transition in single-crystalline BTO via three-dimensional (3D) DW mapping. We demonstrate that SHGM imaging provides the direct visualization of FE domain switching as well as the domain dynamics in 3D, shedding light on the interplay of the domain structure and phase transition. These results allow us to extract the different transition temperatures locally, to unveil the hysteresis behavior, and to determine the type of phase transition at play (first/second order) from the recorded SHGM data. The capabilities of SHGM in uncovering these crucial phenomena can easily be applied to other ferroelectrics to provide new possibilities for in situ engineering of advanced ferroic devices.}},

  abstract     = {{Lithium niobate (LNO) and lithium tantalate (LTO) see widespread use in fundamental research and commercial technologies reaching from electronics over classical optics to integrated quantum communication. The mixed crystal system lithium niobate tantalate (LNT) allows for the dedicate engineering of material properties by combining the advantages of the two parental materials LNO and LTO. Vibrational spectroscopies such as Raman spectroscopy or (Fourier transform) infrared (IR) spectroscopy are vital techniques to provide detailed insight into the material properties, which is central to the analysis and optimization of devices. This work presents a joint experimental–theoretical approach allowing to unambiguously assign the spectral features in the LNT material family through both Raman and IR spectroscopy, as well as providing an in‐depth explanation for the observed scattering efficiencies based on first‐principles calculations. The phononic contribution to the static dielectric tensor is calculated from the experimental and theoretical data using the generalized Lyddane–Sachs–Teller relation and compared with the results of the first‐principles calculations.}},

  abstract     = {{Ferroelectric domain walls (DWs) are promising structures for assembling future nano-electronic circuit elements on a larger scale since reporting domain wall currents of up to 1 mA per single DW. One key requirement hereto is their reproducible manufacturing by gaining preparative control over domain size and domain wall conductivity (DWC). To date, most works on DWC have focused on exploring the fundamental electrical properties of individual DWs within single-shot experiments, with an emphasis on quantifying the origins of DWC. Very few reports exist when it comes to comparing the DWC properties between two separate DWs, and literally nothing exists where issues of reproducibility in DWC devices have been addressed. To fill this gap while facing the challenge of finding guidelines for achieving predictable DWC performance, we report on a procedure that allows us to reproducibly prepare single hexagonal domains of a predefined diameter into uniaxial ferroelectric lithium niobate single crystals of 200 and 300 μm thickness, respectively. We show that the domain diameter can be controlled with an uncertainty of a few percent. As-grown DWs are then subjected to a standard procedure of current-limited high-voltage DWC enhancement, and they repetitively reach a DWC increase of six orders of magnitude. While all resulting DWs show significantly enhanced DWC values, their individual current–voltage (I–V) characteristics exhibit different shapes, which can be explained by variations in their 3D real structure reflecting local heterogeneities by defects, DW pinning, and surface-near DW inclination.}},

  abstract     = {{Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) is one of the most widespread methods for investigating and visualizing ferroelectric domain structures down to the nanometer length scale. PFM makes use of the direct coupling of the piezoelectric response to the crystal lattice, and hence, it is most often applied to spatially map the three-dimensional (3D) near-surface domain distribution of any polar or ferroic sample. Nonetheless, since most samples investigated by PFM are at least semiconducting or fully insulating, the electric ac field emerging from the conductive scanning force microscopy (SFM) tip penetrates the sample and, hence, may also couple to polar features that are deeply buried into the bulk of the sample under investigation. Thus, in the work presented here, we experimentally and theoretically explore the contrast and depth resolution capabilities of PFM, by analyzing the dependence of several key parameters. These key parameters include the depth of the buried feature, i.e., here a domain wall (DW), as well as PFM-relevant technical parameters such as the tip radius, the PFM drive voltage and frequency, and the signal-to-noise ratio. The theoretical predictions are experimentally verified using x-cut periodically poled lithium niobate single crystals that are specially prepared into wedge-shaped samples, in order to allow the buried feature, here the DW, to be “positioned” at any depth into the bulk. This inspection essentially contributes to the fundamental understanding in PFM contrast analysis and to the reconstruction of 3D domain structures down to a 1 μm-penetration depth into the sample.}},

  abstract     = {{Everyday explanations are interactive processes with the aim to provide a less knowledgeable person with reasonable information about other people, objects, or events. Because explanations are interactive communicative processes, the topical structure of an explanation may vary dynamically depending on the immediate feedback of the explainee. In this paper, we analyse topical transitions in medical explanations organised by different physicians (explainers) related to different forms of multimodal behaviour of caregivers (explainees) attending an explanation about the procedures of
an upcoming surgery of a child. The analyses reveal that explainees’ multimodal behaviour with gaze shifts (and particularly gaze aversion) can predict a transition from an elaborated topic to a new one, whereas explainees’ forms of multimodal behaviour with static gaze cannot be related to changes of the topical structure.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:sec><jats:title>Introduction</jats:title><jats:p>In Europe, most Internet searches for school‐related tasks are situated at home, where parents can support adolescents. Although the frequency (quantity) of parental support has already been analyzed, a research gap exists concerning the quality of parental support in adolescents' information‐related Internet use. The quality of parental support in the field of homework involvement is known to be a predictor of adolescents' learning motivation and academic achievement, often discussed with regard to self‐determination theory (SDT) in terms of autonomy support, structure, emotional support, and control. These categories were adapted in this study to analyze parents' support in adolescents' Internet searching activities.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods</jats:title><jats:p>Using a mixed‐methods approach, we combined quantitative questionnaires and qualitative observations to analyze joint information‐related Internet uses. Therefore, 243 parent–adolescent dyads were surveyed and six parent–adolescent dyads were observed by videography in 2019/2020 in Germany. The adolescents were 11 years old, on average.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results</jats:title><jats:p>The parents rated all qualities higher than the adolescents. Emotional support was rated highest by both groups, whereas structure was rated lowest. Adolescents' and parents' view on parental support differ. The qualitative study revealed parents' often interfering behavior, whereas emotional support was low. Further, the active role of adolescents was highlighted in both quantitative and qualitative data.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusions</jats:title><jats:p>By combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, we demonstrated a fruitful application of SDT in analyzing the quality of parental support during adolescents' Internet searches at home and shed light on the co‐construction of joint Internet searches.</jats:p></jats:sec>}},

  abstract     = {{In der Professionalisierung von Lehrkräften ist die Selbst-reflexion eine wesentliche Voraussetzung, da sie zentral für die Weiterentwicklung der eigenen Kompetenzen ist. Daraus ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit, bereits in der ersten Phase der Lehrkräftebildung die Selbstreflexion und die Weiterentwicklungsorientierung zu fördern. Hierzu sind auf Grund des sozialen Settings gezielte reflexionsorientierte Workshops chancenreich. Um die Effekte von reflexionsorientierten Workshops und dabei den Zusammenhang zwischen der Selbst-reflexion und der Weiterentwicklungsorientierung zu überprüfen, wurden anhand einer Stichprobe von N = 646 Lehramtsstudierenden die Entwicklung der Selbst-reflexion und Weiterentwicklungsorientierung beim Besuch von Workshops zu überfachlichen Kompetenzen untersucht. Die Datenerhebung erfolgte vor, direkt nach und erneut vier bis sechs Wochen nach den reflexionsorientierten Workshops mittels eines Fragebogens. Durch Varianzanalysen können in Bezug auf die Selbst-reflexion direkt nach den Workshops signifikante Effekte sowie eine konstante Ausprägung vier bis sechs Wochen später nachgewiesen werden. Weiterhin konnte ein signifikanter Anstieg bei der Weiterentwicklungsorientierung über die drei Messzeitpunkte verzeichnet werden. Ebenso zeigte sich ein positiver Effekt der Selbstreflexion auf den Anstieg der Weiterentwicklungsorientierung.}},
