A substantial share of a product’s environmental performance is determined during engineering. Early assessments rely on generic data, which is gradually replaced by more concrete simulation and primary data as product maturity increases. The effective use of engineering simulation models for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) therefore remains a central challenge under heterogeneous, distributed and rapidly evolving data. This article presents a systematic review of product engineering approaches for integrating simulation models into LCA. A seven-step research approach is applied to identify, categorize and evaluate existing approaches across CAx tools. Relevant simulation parameters for sustainability assessment, including material properties, process descriptors, consumables and waste streams, are identified and analyzed. Based on identified data characteristics, the potential of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence methods for LCA data preparation is assessed. A conceptual knowledge-graph-based decision support approach is derived to enable structured integration, traceability and reuse of simulation data for sustainability assessment. The approach is evaluated using criteria from literature. Structured integration of simulation data improves early-stage data quality and supports decision-making in sustainable product engineering.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"1st International Symposium: March 24 – 26, 2026, Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University","department":[{"_id":"152"}],"type":"conference","date_created":"2026-07-16T09:41:28Z","date_updated":"2026-08-13T08:18:14Z","author":[{"id":"47565","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X","last_name":"Gräßler","first_name":"Iris","full_name":"Gräßler, Iris"},{"id":"74512","full_name":"Aydin, Simon","first_name":"Simon","last_name":"Aydin"},{"id":"67999","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0602-9923","first_name":"Sven","last_name":"Rarbach","full_name":"Rarbach, Sven"}],"year":"2026","title":"Systematic review of engineering simulation models for life cycle assessment","doi":"10.17619/UNIPB/1-2637","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://digital.ub.uni-paderborn.de/hs/download/pdf/8359171","open_access":"1"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"chicago":"Gräßler, Iris, Simon Aydin, and Sven Rarbach. “Systematic Review of Engineering Simulation Models for Life Cycle Assessment.” In 1st International Symposium: March 24 – 26, 2026, Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University, edited by Iris Gräßler. The intention of reassembling products and their part simplies that inspection and sorting need to be integrated with value-conserving objectives. Further, disassembly and reassembly require higher competence levels of workforce than assembly. To provide the required information during engineering, a metadata model (MDM) is required that links established product models to capability models. Since processes to be carried out for realizing a product largely determine required employees’ capabilities, the proposed approach uses the ADR process domain to connect product and capability domains. The research is based on a systematic literature analysis to identify existing approaches regarding MDMs of ADR processes. Based on the results, an integrative MDM is developed that answers defined competence questions. The model enables queries which support engineers by feedback on which skills are required for a product. This builds up a basis to check whether required skills are available in the manufacturing company, either early in product engineering or later in ADR planning.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"1st International Symposium on Hybrid Intelligence in Product and Production Engineering","doi":"10.17619/UNIPB/1-2640","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-08-13T08:14:20Z","author":[{"id":"47565","full_name":"Gräßler, I.","last_name":"Gräßler","first_name":"I.","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X"},{"first_name":"Thomas","last_name":"Hesse","full_name":"Hesse, Thomas","id":"76202"},{"full_name":"Pottebaum, Jens","last_name":"Pottebaum","orcid":"http://orcid.org/0000-0001-8778-2989","first_name":"Jens","id":"405"}],"title":"Enabling extreme data by using DS/AI approaches","year":"2026"},{"editor":[{"first_name":"Iris","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X","last_name":"Gräßler","full_name":"Gräßler, Iris","id":"47565"}],"doi":"10.17619/UNIPB/1-2663","user_id":"5905","_id":"66704","publisher":"Universitätsbibliothek","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://digital.ub.uni-paderborn.de/hs/download/pdf/8360574","open_access":"1"}],"date_updated":"2026-08-13T08:46:01Z","conference":{"start_date":"20260324","name":"International Symposium on Hybrid Intelligence in Product and Production Engineering 1","location":"Paderborn","end_date":"20260326"},"title":"1st International Symposium : March 24 – 26, 2026, Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University","status":"public","year":"2026","oa":"1","department":[{"_id":"152"}],"type":"conference_editor","date_created":"2026-08-13T08:39:46Z","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Gräßler, Iris, editor. 1st International Symposium : March 24 – 26, 2026, Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University. It investigates the extent to which this formula is connected to Jesus’s words to Mary Magdalene on Easter morning in John 20:17. The analysis aims to show that the Qur’an critically engages with the Christian interpretive tradition surrounding this statement as recorded in John’s Gospel and adapts it – both contextually and verbally – within its own theological framework. As in the Christian tradition, this Qur’anic engagement also generates a broader discourse on the hermeneutics of scriptural interpretation.","lang":"eng"}],"publisher":"Routledge","_id":"66707","page":"1-17","ddc":["200"],"user_id":"83446","status":"public","has_accepted_license":"1","oa":"1","citation":{"ieee":"Z. Das generelle Verhalten gleicht dem der Phasensensitivität.","lang":"ger"},{"text":"In this thesis, several aspects of high-gain multimode SU(1,1) interferometers are theoretically investigated, with the focus being on metrological applications. The parametric down-conversion (PDC) process utilized in these interferometers is theoretically described via integro-differential equations describing spatial evolution of the plane-wave operators. It is shown that for the phase sensitivity of these interferometers, supersensitivity can be reached provided that proper diffraction compensation is applied. The phase sensitivity improves if the gain is increased or if the number of effective modes is decreased. This comes at the cost of the phase-region width over which supersensitivity can be reached. Based on the Schmidt mode structure of SU(1,1) interferometers, a processing method is constructed which allows for the experimental retrieval of the levels of squeezing and anti-squeezing of the multimode state generated by the first PDC section of an SU(1,1) interferometer. It is then applied experimentally by collaborators and is found to be in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. Finally, SU(1,1) interferometers pumped with Laguerre-Gaussian beams are analyzed in the context of angular displacement measurements. As either the gain, the OAM index or the radial index of the pump are increased, the measurement uncertainty is decreased, ultimately allowing for supersensitive measurements. Generally, the behavior is the same as for the phase sensitivity.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"ama":"Scharwald D. Theoretical Investigations of Spatially Multimode High-Gain SU(1,1) Interferometers. In journalistic reporting, numerous conceptual metaphors are used to conceptualise such extreme weather events. This linguistic study investigates how the century flood that occurred in southern Germany in late May and early June 2024 was metaphorically conceptualised in nationwide online journalism by identifying patterns of metaphorical conceptualisation. The analysis draws on the foundations of Conceptual Metaphor Theory as proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), refined through the graded distinction of schematicity levels in conceptual structure proposed in Kövecses (2017, 2020, 2022) Extended Conceptual Metaphor Theory. Accordingly, metaphors are understood as schematically distinguishable mappings of conceptual aspects from source to target areas, through which particular actions are constituted. Adopting a mixed-methods approach that integrates manual with (semi-)automatic analytical procedures, the study reveals that the century flood is predominantly conceptualised through the highly schematic metaphor ZEIT IST SUBSTANZ (›time is substance‹), the less schematic metaphor NATURKATASTROPHEN SIND PERSONEN (›natural disasters are persons‹), and a set of least schematic, elaborating metaphors, namely HOCHWASSER IST GEGNER (›flood is an opponent‹), HOCHWASSER IST ZERSTÖRER (›flood is a destroyer‹) and HOCHWASSER IST MÖRDER (›flood is a murderer‹). From an ecolinguistic perspective, the study critically reflects on how these metaphorical conceptualisations obscure human co-responsibility for the intensity of extreme flood events."}],"publication":"Ökologische Diskurse heute. A significant level of complexity is added when these strategies are applied not only on integrated product level, but on lower levels of assemblies and parts. Therefore, approaches, like Design for Assembly, Disassembly and Reassembly (DfADR) become increasingly important including the consideration of ADR capabilities. To put DfADR into practice, it is necessary to structure ADR-related product data and make it usable for product engineers. For instance, assemblies resulting from disassembly might not be consistent with original assembly structures. Therefore, a Product Meta Data Model (MDM) is required to handle assembly-related data even when it has extreme characteristics. A literature review on related MDMs reveals a range of models for general product data and identifies a gap in consideration of assembly-related data. In an expert workshop, requirements are raised to evaluate existing models and develop ADR-related extensions. The MDM is conceptually modelled and validated by competence questions. The paper presents an approach that makes assembly-related data usable for hybrid decision support and enables engineers to think ahead of ADR processes."}],"publication":"1st International Symposium: March 24 – 26, 2026, Heinz Nixdorf Institute, Paderborn University"},{"citation":{"ama":"Fuchs C, Friesch K, Museba J. INNOVADE Interdisciplinary Knowledge Base on Digital Democracy - D2.1 . These needs are—according to Ainscow’s (2007) inclusive turn—not primarily ‘special educational needs’, but diverse needs of all learners. For the rather segregated German educational system, this endeavour applies especially to primary education, where needs are still developing and pupils are not yet assigned to different types of schooling according to their needs and abilities.\r\n\r\nDespite a substantial amount of research on pupils’ basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and social relatedness (Ryan et al., 2022), strategies that technology education teachers apply in this regard are not yet well understood. Besides interventional studies on technology education, indicating effectiveness of self‑directed and action‑oriented teaching and learning, there is a dearth of research on how teachers address different needs as a routine.\r\n\r\nThe purpose of the presented study is therefore to investigate and systematize actions and strategies teachers apply, and to specify how pupils' needs are considered when teaching technology education on a given topic.\r\n\r\nThe overall study used a mixed-methods approach to the question how pupils’ needs are characterized by themselves and by their teachers, and how they were taken into account in a lesson adapted and delivered by the teachers. In the sub-study presented here, participating primary school teachers were interviewed about their consideration of pupils’ needs whilst planning and conducting a technology education unit on the functionality of robots.\r\n\r\nThe results gained from qualitative content analysis of the interviews indicate that although the anticipation of different needs is considered challenging, teachers possess a substantiate amount of practices and strategies to take them into account.\r\n\r\nThe paper systematizes the practices teachers described in structured interviews within strategies and discusses the contribution of taking basic needs into account for inclusive technology education."}],"publication":"Linköping Electronic Conference Proceedings"},{"place":"Hamburg","date_created":"2026-06-29T10:44:59Z","oa":"1","type":"review","citation":{"mla":"Grauthoff, Fabian. “Rezension Zu: Bieker, Markus: Historische Perspektivität Als Kommunikatives Konstrukt. In fact, its operation, combined with single qubit rotations allows to realise any quantum circuit. Several strategies have been adopted in order to build quantum gates. Among them, photonics offers the dual advantage of excellent isolation from the environment and ease of manipulation at the single qubit level. Here we adopt a scalable time-multiplexed approach in order to build a fully reconfigurable architecture capable of implementing a post-selected C-NOT gate with a fidelity of (93.8 ± 1.4)%. We then show how our time-multiplexed platform can be employed to combine a C-NOT and a single qubit gate in order to generate the four Bell states."}]},{"year":"2026","title":"Investigating the representation of backchannels and fillers in fine-tuned language models","author":[{"first_name":"Yu","last_name":"Wang","full_name":"Wang, Yu"},{"full_name":"Lao, Leyi","first_name":"Leyi","last_name":"Lao"},{"first_name":"Langchu","last_name":"Huang","full_name":"Huang, Langchu"},{"full_name":"Skantze, Gabriel","first_name":"Gabriel","last_name":"Skantze"},{"first_name":"Yang","last_name":"Xu","full_name":"Xu, Yang"},{"id":"76456","orcid":"0000-0002-9613-5713","first_name":"Hendrik","last_name":"Buschmeier","full_name":"Buschmeier, Hendrik"}],"date_updated":"2026-07-01T19:43:27Z","publication_status":"published","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2509.20237","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.18653/v1/2026.acl-long.241","publication":"Proceedings of the 64th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Backchannels and fillers are important linguistic expressions in dialogue, but often treated as \"noise\" to be bypassed in modern transformer-based language models. Our work studies the representation of them in language models using three fine-tuning strategies. The models are trained on three dialogue corpora in English and Japanese, where backchannels and fillers are preserved and annotated, to investigate how fine-tuning can help LMs learn their representations. We first apply clustering analysis to the learnt representation of backchannels and fillers, and have found increased silhouette scores in representations from fine-tuned models, which suggests that fine-tuning enables LMs to distinguish the nuanced semantic variation in different backchannel and filler use. We also use natural language generation (NLG) metrics and qualitative analysis to confirm that the utterances generated by fine-tuned language models resemble human-produced utterances more closely. Our findings suggest the potentials of transforming general LMs into conversational LMs that are more capable of producing human-like languages adequately."}],"date_created":"2025-09-25T19:00:23Z","type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"660"}],"status":"public","conference":{"end_date":"2026-07-07","location":"San Diego, CA, USA","name":"64th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics","start_date":"2026-07-02"},"page":"5319-5348","publisher":"Association for Computational Linguistics","_id":"61444","user_id":"76456","citation":{"ama":"Wang Y, Lao L, Huang L, Skantze G, Xu Y, Buschmeier H. In a between-subjects online experiment (n = 200), participants completed a price classification task supported by AI, while we manipulated the presence of local feature-based explanations. Drawing on dual-process theory as an interpretive lens, we conceptualize explainability as a cognitively ambivalent intervention that reshapes reliance behavior. Our results show that XAI-induced transparency exerts competing effects: while it directly reduces negative consultations, it simultaneously increases competence-based trust and shifts responsibility attribution toward the AI. These mechanisms foster overreliance and significantly increase negative consultations, resulting in a competitive mediation pattern. Notably, comparable effects do not emerge for positive consultations, suggesting that transparency more readily amplifies reliance than it promotes corrective belief updating. By empirically demonstrating this paradox, our study develops IS and Decision Sciences research on automation bias in transparent ADM settings and identifies key psychological mechanisms through which explainability influences reliance. These findings inform the design of XAI systems that prioritize calibrated reliance rather than merely increasing perceived transparency."}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167923626001107","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1016/j.dss.2026.114721","year":"2026","title":"Unveiling the Hidden Layer: Ambivalent Cognitive Effects of XAI in Augmented Decision-Making under Uncertainty","author":[{"id":"100285","full_name":"Matschak, Tizian","last_name":"Matschak","first_name":"Tizian"},{"full_name":"Ilja, Nastjuk","last_name":"Ilja","first_name":"Nastjuk"},{"id":"98948","full_name":"Trang, Simon Thanh-Nam","first_name":"Simon Thanh-Nam","orcid":"0000-0002-4784-4038","last_name":"Trang"},{"full_name":"Benitez, Jose","last_name":"Benitez","first_name":"Jose"}],"date_updated":"2026-07-03T18:33:13Z","intvolume":" 209","article_type":"original"},{"file_date_updated":"2026-07-13T13:12:03Z","citation":{"bibtex":"@inproceedings{Herrmann_Hoffmann_Wessel_2026, series={DuEPublico}, title={Verstehen adressieren und Darstellungen vernetzen: Exemplarische Aufgaben zur analytischen Geometrie}, DOI={https://doi.org/10.17185/duepublico/86712}, booktitle={Mathematikabitur „Status Quo – Quo Vadis“: Tagungsband zur Fachtagung zum Mathematikabitur am 11./12.
