The semiparametric \r\nvariants employ a multiplicative volatility decomposition into conditional and slowly varying \r\nunconditional components, where the latter is estimated via a data-driven local polynomial \r\nsmoother to accommodate non-stationarities commonly observed in financial time series. Based \r\non the revised Basel Committee framework for market-risk assessment, all models are capable \r\nof producing rolling one-day-ahead forecasts for Value at Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall \r\n(ES) under a wide range of symmetric and skewed innovation distributions. Their forecasting \r\naccuracy is examined using the regulatory traffic light tests for VaR and the recently developed \r\nES-specific traffic light procedure, complemented by the regulatory loss function. In addition, \r\nmodel selection incorporates both a recently proposed corrected firm-oriented loss function that \r\naccounts for opportunity costs and the Weighted Absolute Deviation (WAD) criterion. The \r\nempirical comparison demonstrates that (semiparametric) long memory GARCH models - \r\nparticularly those combining fractional dynamics with nonparametric scale adjustments - can \r\nserve as valuable alternatives to traditional parametric short memory models, offering more \r\nstable volatility estimates and improved tail-risk forecasts for practical risk management \r\napplications.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2026-07-13T09:21:45Z","citation":{"ama":"Hanke DC, Uhde A, Feng Y. Application of Novel Exponential (Semi-)Parametric Short and Long Memory GARCH Models under Regulatory Requirements of Basel III.; 2026.","bibtex":"@book{Hanke_Uhde_Feng_2026, title={Application of Novel Exponential (Semi-)Parametric Short and Long Memory GARCH Models under Regulatory Requirements of Basel III}, author={Hanke, Dominik Christian and Uhde, André and Feng, Yuanhua}, year={2026} }","mla":"Hanke, Dominik Christian, et al. Application of Novel Exponential (Semi-)Parametric Short and Long Memory GARCH Models under Regulatory Requirements of Basel III. 2026.","short":"D.C. It is particularly relevant in scenarios where understanding and predicting conditional \r\nvariability is crucial, such as when dealing with incremental or time-dependent data. In this paper, novel \r\nshort and long memory volatility models of the EGARCH family are introduced and analyzed, which \r\nare closely related to the well-established EGARCH model proposed by Nelson (1991) but share \r\ndesirable theoretical properties in several dimensions. Recently developed members of the so-called \r\nEGARCH family, which introduces a modulus-log transformation proposed by John and Draper (1980) \r\nand a power transformation for the size and magnitude effect to tackle the problem with near-zero \r\ninnovations and the asymmetric impact of positive and negative shocks on the volatility, are discussed. \r\nAfter a theoretical discussion of the proposed and related volatility models, the practical performance \r\nof the elaborated volatility models is compared to well-established and traditional GARCH approaches. \r\nA general QMLE algorithm is proposed to estimate the model parameters. The practical relevance of the \r\nadvanced models is illustrated through a comparative study. By applying these volatility models to a \r\nvariety of international stock index returns, this paper identifies market-specific characteristics as well \r\nas unique strengths and weaknesses of discussed volatility models. Although the practical performance \r\nof the recently introduced models is comparable to those obtained by the traditional EGARCH model, \r\nthey generally outperform traditional non-exponential volatility models used as benchmarks and thus \r\nprovide a useful alternative to existing short and long memory volatility models. Existing data-driven studies have mainly addressed post-occurrence expulsion detection, process-end classification, or the identification of influencing factors, whereas online monitoring requires short-term risk estimation before the event occurs. In this study, expulsion prediction is formulated as a sliding-window-based pre-expulsion risk estimation task for the currently welded spot. A physics-guided hybrid GRU-XGBoost ensemble is developed to combine temporal learning from dynamic resistance and electrode-force signals with process-physics-related scalar features describing heat input, resistance state, and force response. The framework was evaluated on 2730 valid welds, including 588 expulsion and 2142 non-expulsion welds, using weld-grouped five-fold cross-validation with fold-level working-point selection. The ensemble achieved an area under the ROC curve of 0.945 ± 0.004 and a weld-level recall of 90.6 ± 3.7% at an average false alarm rate of 9.8 ± 0.2%, outperforming both individual branches. For the 533 correctly warned expulsion welds, the median early-warning lead time was 56 ms. These results indicate that online, physically interpretable pre-expulsion risk prediction is feasible under low-false-alarm constraints within the investigated RSW configuration and provide a basis for future adaptive monitoring and control studies."}],"publication":"Journal of Manufacturing Processes","keyword":["Resistance spot welding","Expulsion prediction","Physics-guided machine learning","Hybrid ensemble modelling","Process monitoring"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"157"}],"file":[{"file_name":"1-s2.0-S1526612526007012-main.pdf","file_size":10864983,"access_level":"closed","relation":"main_file","date_updated":"2026-07-18T12:04:02Z","file_id":"66542","success":1,"content_type":"application/pdf","creator":"kekeyang","date_created":"2026-07-18T12:04:02Z"}],"date_created":"2026-07-18T12:03:15Z","has_accepted_license":"1","status":"public","ddc":["600"],"user_id":"65085","volume":174,"page":"135-153","publisher":"Elsevier BV","_id":"66541","quality_controlled":"1","file_date_updated":"2026-07-18T12:04:02Z","citation":{"mla":"Yang, Keke, et al. “A Physics-Guided Hybrid Framework for Online Pre-Expulsion Prediction in Resistance Spot Welding.” Journal of Manufacturing Processes, vol. 174, Elsevier BV, 2026, pp. 135–53, doi:10.1016/j.jmapro.2026.07.042.","bibtex":"@article{Yang_Li_Beck_Hein_Meschut_2026, title={A physics-guided hybrid framework for online pre-expulsion prediction in resistance spot welding}, volume={174}, DOI={10.1016/j.jmapro.2026.07.042}, journal={Journal of Manufacturing Processes}, publisher={Elsevier BV}, author={Yang, Keke and Li, Chong and Beck, Robert and Hein, David and Meschut, Gerson}, year={2026}, pages={135–153} }","ama":"Yang K, Li C, Beck R, Hein D, Meschut G. Elemental analysis shows an increase in carbon mass fraction from 44.76 % to 54.09 % and a decrease in atomic O/C and H/C ratios, confirming carbonization as visualized in a Van Krevelen diagram. The hydrochar was chemically activated by potassium hydroxide (KOH) impregnation and thermal treatment, yielding 16–28 wt.% activated hydrochar. Adsorption isotherms were determined in a thermogravimetric, fluidized-bed reactor using a stepwise CO2 concentration program limited to 50 vol.% CO2 in N2 (0–5–10–25–50–0 vol.% CO2 at 100 kPa total pressure). The setup was extended by integrating online gas analysis to provide an independent, time-resolved mass-balance cross-check. Validation was performed using Lewatit VP OC 1065 by an internal Langmuir parity check and comparison with literature-based Toth model representations; gas analysis is demonstrated using a representative low-concentration step and by comparing Langmuir models derived from gas-based versus gravimetric loadings at 50 °C. For activated hydrochar, equilibrium points were obtained up to 50 vol.% CO2 (pCO2 ≈ 50 kPa) and show decreasing loading with increasing temperature. For literature comparison and indicative saturation reporting, isotherm fits were extrapolated to pure CO2 at 100 kPa: the maximum loading derived from the raw weighing signal was 1.84 mmol/g; after buoyancy correction, the corresponding value is 1.45 mmol/g."}],"publication":"Discover Applied Sciences","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Hydrothermal carbonization","Activated hydrochar","CO2 adsorption","Adsorption isotherms","Thermogravimetric analysis","Gas analysis","Method validation","Carbon capture"],"date_created":"2026-07-06T11:30:48Z","date_updated":"2026-07-20T08:18:24Z","publication_status":"published","article_type":"original","title":"Validation of a fluidized bed thermogravimetric method with integrated gas analysis for CO2 capture by activated hydrochar from pistachio shells","year":"2026","author":[{"full_name":"Kroiß, Christoph","first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Kroiß"},{"full_name":"Al Afif, Rafat","last_name":"Al Afif","first_name":"Rafat"},{"full_name":"Pröll, Tobias","first_name":"Tobias","last_name":"Pröll"},{"full_name":"Pfeifer, Christoph","first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Pfeifer"},{"id":"11848","first_name":"Christian","last_name":"Weinberger","full_name":"Weinberger, Christian"},{"full_name":"Tondl, Gregor","first_name":"Gregor","last_name":"Tondl"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["3004-9261"]},"doi":"10.1007/s42452-026-09061-7","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s42452-026-09061-7","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"ieee":"C. To produce biochar, ten different biomass feedstocks were sourced mostly from Austria. The feedstocks gathered were spruce chips; woodchips from broad-leaved forestry; wheat bran; Japanese knotweed; walnut shells; screening overflow from composting; and residues from Mary thistle, rapeseed, hemp, and poppy flower processing. These feedstocks were pyrolyzed at 500 and 700 °C under nitrogen (N2) atmosphere in a customized muffle furnace. The feedstocks were analyzed for their lignin, hemicellulose, cellulose, fat content, and other properties. Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) was performed on the biochar samples, with the highest documented intruded volume being 3.64 cm3/g. Elemental recoveries in the biochar samples were determined and correlated with feedstock structural components (FSC). Additionally, the water solubility of biochar nutrient elements was determined, with K showing the highest solubility of 35.5 ± 18.5% at 700 °C. Elemental recoveries of C/H/N/Cl showed significant correlations with FSC (e.g., Cl showed a significant and strong negative correlation with cellulose, r = − 0.874/p < 0.01). Intruded volume as well as K solubility also showed significant correlations. These results indicate that feedstock structural components can serve as predictors for more biochar properties than currently used in the literature, although the limited sample size requires further research to confirm the findings presented here."}],"date_created":"2026-07-20T08:03:28Z","type":"journal_article","oa":"1"},{"publication":"Soziales Lernen in der Grundschule und Sachunterricht. Here, we present a systematic optical investigation of large‐scale 3D AuNP assemblies fabricated via meniscus‐guided assembly, focusing on the reproducibility, spatial uniformity, and mode evolution of their plasmonic responses. Spatially‐resolved dark‐field scattering measurements reveal that high‐aspect‐ratio AuNP pillars exhibit uniform scattering spectra along their height and across different pillars, despite variations in geometry and structure. Electromagnetic simulations suggest that this robustness arises from a collective many‐particle plasmonic response that remains optically active despite structural perturbations. The corresponding near‐field and surface‐charge distributions remain spatially distributed under representative structural perturbations, consistent with volumetric averaging across the three‐dimensional assembly. Building on this robust platform, we introduce compositional modulation through a core–satellite architecture by incorporating smaller AuNPs. This yields a composition‐dependent spectral redistribution, including the emergence of an additional long‐wavelength spectral feature in the core–satellite assemblies. Wavelength‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering measurements reveal contrasting responses under 633 and 785 nm excitation, reflecting redistribution of local plasmonic coupling pathways. These results provide process‐enabled guidelines for using meniscus‐guided 3D‐nanoprinting to realize robust nanoparticle assemblies."}],"publication":"Laser & Photonics Reviews"},{"publication":"Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies","issue":"4","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Smart cities promise safer streets, smoother traffic, and more efficient services, enabled by dense networks of urban sensors. Yet this infrastructure, often unnoticed by citizens, introduces pervasive privacy risks, from tracking, profiling, and sensitive inferences to subtle forms of self-censorship. Despite widespread deployment, little is known about how the public understands and perceives these sensing systems. To address this gap, we present an intervention based user study (n = 172) in which participants are exposed to data collection by six urban sensors, including cameras and alternative technologies commonly framed as privacy-preserving. Participants encounter either the sensors alone or sensors accompanied by real-time data visualizations. Our results reveal widespread misunderstanding of some sensors (radar, LiDAR, Wi-Fi, depth, and thermal imaging sensors), particularly their capacity for identification and for attribute inferences such as gender or age. We also identify persistent misconceptions, including the belief that Wi-Fi poses privacy risks only when users connect to public networks. While making sensors visible and visualizing collected data improves privacy awareness, these measures alone are not enough for citizens to understand the actual risks of urban sensing. We derive recommendations for privacy-respecting smart city environments grounded in citizens’ informational needs and expectations."}],"date_created":"2026-08-03T10:46:58Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"679"}],"year":"2026","title":"“The city isn’t uploading me to TikTok”: Exploring Privacy Attitudes towards Data Collection in Urban Public Spaces","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2299-0984"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Todt, Julian","first_name":"Julian","last_name":"Todt"},{"id":"46433","first_name":"Emiram","last_name":"Kablo","full_name":"Kablo, Emiram"},{"full_name":"Morsbach, Felix","first_name":"Felix","last_name":"Morsbach"},{"id":"92804","full_name":"Arias Cabarcos, Patricia","first_name":"Patricia","last_name":"Arias Cabarcos"},{"full_name":"Strufe, Thorsten","first_name":"Thorsten","last_name":"Strufe"}],"date_updated":"2026-08-03T10:49:58Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 2026","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://petsymposium.org/popets/2026/popets-2026-0108.php","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.56553/popets-2026-0108","citation":{"apa":"Todt, J., Kablo, E., Morsbach, F., Arias Cabarcos, P., & Strufe, T. As programmable digital architectures, they both shape and are shaped by teachers’ and students’ practices. Building on two Action Research projects in German schools, the article concentrates on the reproduction of inequality within platformized classrooms. It uses the focus point of translation software usage to explore inscriptions into digital architectures. Analysing breakdowns of translation software usage among students who speak German as a second/foreign language, the article focuses on inscribed power dynamics within translation software, the mismatch between students’ practices and the imagined user, and the discrepancy between software logics and the educational setting. Discussing teachers’ invisible work, care and belonging in platformized education settings, the article highlights the epistemic inscriptions within technology. It describes how dataveillance and testing break down when students use translation software, thereby highlighting teachers’ shift towards creating a collective understanding. Lastly, the article discusses teachers’ autonomy within post-platform education by highlighting the limitations of currently available software products and software production.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Learning, Media and Technology","department":[{"_id":"121"},{"_id":"477"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["Intersectionality","platform studies","action research","post-platform education","breakdowns","translation software","classroom reserach"],"date_created":"2026-08-03T06:58:34Z"},{"oa":"1","department":[{"_id":"679"}],"type":"conference","date_created":"2026-04-23T16:03:06Z","citation":{"chicago":"Kablo, Emiram, Avishan Sharafi, and Patricia Arias Cabarcos. “‘I Store Some Passwords in WhatsApp’: Understanding User Experiences and Usability Challenges of Password Managers in Virtual Reality.” In Proceedings of the Extended Abstracts of the 2026 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. To support the development of knowledge networks with undergraduate students of comparative literary and cultural studies, this project utilized portfolio work as a method of self-actuating and self-reflective learning suitable for motivating examinations of learning contents and contributing to students’ skill development. Using naturalistic observations of the portfolio work within the seminar, effects and developments were recorded. With partly quantitative, predominantly qualitative content analyses of the portfolios, concrete connections between learning contents were determined. The explorative study shows changed perspectives and peaked interests of the students because of portfolio work as well as diverse contextualisations, comparisons and connections in the portfolios, thus offering a possible starting point for structural recommendations for the discipline of comparative literary and cultural studies.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"die hochschullehre: Interdisziplinäre Zeitschrift für Studium und Lehre","volume":12,"user_id":"27419","_id":"61463","publisher":"wbv","page":"65–80","status":"public","oa":"1","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Hannebohm_2026, title={Potenziale der Portfolioarbeit für den Aufbau vernetzten Wissens im Bachelorstudium: Eine Explorationsstudie im Studienfach Komparatistik/Vergleichende Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft}, volume={12}, DOI={10.3278/HSL2606W}, journal={die hochschullehre: Interdisziplinäre Zeitschrift für Studium und Lehre}, publisher={wbv}, author={Hannebohm, Ronja}, year={2026}, pages={65–80} }","ama":"Hannebohm R. Ausgangspunkt ist die Beobachtung, dass Kurzfilme im Unterricht häufig inhaltlich verengt und primär als Mittel zur Themenvermittlung genutzt werden.
