The precision of every EELS analysis, however, is inherently limited by noises and blur. This thesis offers a comprehensive understanding of the noise, which is particularly valuable at low dwell times necessary for beam sensitive materials and for electron-matter interactions with low frequency of occurrence, where the noise dominates the measurement. Additionally, correlations encountered in the noise of an EELS measurement are described from both a theoretical and experimental perspective. These correlations are caused by a convolution of the noisy signal with the detector point spread function. Methods for characterizing key noise parameters of typical detectors are described, allowing the noise model to be tailored to any EELS detector. Ultimately, a novel deconvolution method enabling significant sharpening and denoising of EELS measurements is introduced and demonstrated. Its efficiency is further validated on both simulation and experimental data. The described advancement offered by the proposed deconvolution method enables the extension of current electron microscope capabilities, facilitating analysis that would be unfeasible with existing deconvolution techniques.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2026-02-04T06:57:14Z","department":[{"_id":"15"}],"oa":"1","type":"dissertation"},{"language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"series_title":"Tagungsband 2025","date_updated":"2026-02-04T14:56:58Z","intvolume":" 45","year":"2025","title":"Neue Wege für das Schülerlabor – Rahmenbedingungen eines mobilen Schülerlabors","author":[{"id":"101166","full_name":"Reckmann, Eileen","last_name":"Reckmann","first_name":"Eileen"},{"first_name":"Tobias","last_name":"Blomberg","full_name":"Blomberg, Tobias","id":"78354"},{"id":"30086","last_name":"Temmen","first_name":"Katrin","full_name":"Temmen, Katrin"}],"type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"300"}],"file":[{"creator":"eileen4","date_created":"2025-11-03T09:36:08Z","access_level":"open_access","file_size":227331,"file_name":"P093_Reckmann.pdf","date_updated":"2025-11-03T09:36:08Z","relation":"main_file","content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"62043"}],"date_created":"2025-11-03T09:36:57Z","publication":"Entdecken, lehren und forschen im Schülerlabor","ddc":["370"],"user_id":"101166","editor":[{"first_name":"Helena","last_name":"van Vorst","full_name":"van Vorst, Helena"}],"volume":45,"_id":"62042","has_accepted_license":"1","status":"public","conference":{"location":"Bochum","name":"51. The aim of the project is to investigate the influencing factors for a circular economy in the field of automotive lighting using the example of a headlamp. A key aspect is the analysis of methods for recycling end of life headlamps to recover materials for the next generation of headlamps and to evaluate their reusability. The article presents investigations and methods for recovering materials from used headlamps. These methods are evaluated based on how effectively they can recover materials for the next generation of headlamps and to what extent these materials can be reused. The goal was to identify the best practices that are both ecologically and economically sustainable. To support the development of a headlamp, a digital twin was created, which enables a detailed life cycle analysis at any time. This digital twin ensures that the expected CO2 footprint of the product can be analysed over its product life cycle during development to ensure optimal use and recycling of materials. This ensures a precise assessment of the environmental impact of future products. The final demonstrator of the project, developed based on the findings of the two points mentioned above and OEM requirements, presents the third key point of the research project: the design of a new product to enable a circular economy in the field of automotive lighting. The headlamp is designed to use circular economy recyclates and to serve as a material source at the end of its life. This represents an important step for automotive lighting towards a circular economy, where products and materials are used and reused for as long as possible."}],"project":[{"_id":"693","name":"Nachhaltigkeitsoptimiertes Life Cycle Assessment technologisch hochkomplexer Produkte am Beispiel Automobilbeleuchtung"}],"date_created":"2025-12-12T12:38:14Z","place":"Darmstadt","type":"conference","oa":"1","title":"Circular economy approaches in automotive lighting – insights from the Nalyses project","status":"public","year":"2025","author":[{"full_name":"Schmidt, Christian","last_name":"Schmidt","first_name":"Christian"},{"full_name":"Niedling, Mathias","last_name":"Niedling","first_name":"Mathias"},{"first_name":"Jan","last_name":"Helmig","full_name":"Helmig, Jan"},{"first_name":"Steffen","last_name":"Forbes","full_name":"Forbes, Steffen"},{"last_name":"Jardin","first_name":"Janis","full_name":"Jardin, Janis"},{"full_name":"Stieren, Stephan","last_name":"Stieren","first_name":"Stephan"},{"id":"69890","full_name":"Fittkau, Niklas","first_name":"Niklas","orcid":"0009-0007-1281-4465","last_name":"Fittkau"},{"full_name":"Peitzmeier, Henning","last_name":"Peitzmeier","first_name":"Henning"}],"conference":{"location":"Darmstadt","start_date":"2025-09-22","name":"16th International Symposium on Automotive Lighting","end_date":"2025-09-24"},"date_updated":"2026-02-09T10:16:28Z","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://tuprints.ulb.tu-darmstadt.de/30825/"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"_id":"63068","user_id":"69890","doi":"10.26083/tuprints-00030841"},{"article_number":"36","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://opg.optica.org/opticaq/viewmedia.cfm?uri=opticaq-3-1-36&seq=0","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1364/opticaq.524682","year":"2025","title":"Simultaneous measurement of multimode squeezing through multimode phase-sensitive amplification","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2837-6714"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Barakat, Ismail","first_name":"Ismail","last_name":"Barakat"},{"last_name":"Kalash","first_name":"Mahmoud","full_name":"Kalash, Mahmoud"},{"last_name":"Scharwald","first_name":"Dennis","orcid":"0009-0007-5654-5412","full_name":"Scharwald, Dennis","id":"55907"},{"first_name":"Polina","last_name":"Sharapova","full_name":"Sharapova, Polina","id":"60286"},{"full_name":"Lindlein, Norbert","last_name":"Lindlein","first_name":"Norbert"},{"first_name":"Maria","last_name":"Chekhova","full_name":"Chekhova, Maria"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-02-10T22:44:44Z","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 3","date_created":"2026-01-26T15:57:13Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"15"},{"_id":"569"},{"_id":"170"},{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"429"}],"issue":"1","publication":"Optica Quantum","abstract":[{"text":"Multimode squeezed light is an increasingly popular tool in photonic quantum technologies, including sensing, imaging, and computation. Meanwhile, the existing methods of its characterization are technically complicated, which reduces the level of squeezing, and mostly deal with a single mode at a time. Here, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we employ optical parametric amplification to characterize multiple squeezing eigenmodes simultaneously. We retrieve the shapes and squeezing degrees of all modes at once through direct detection followed by modal decomposition. This method is tolerant to inefficient detection and does not require a local oscillator. For a spectrally and spatially multimode squeezed vacuum, we characterize eight strongest spatial modes, obtaining squeezing and anti-squeezing values of up to −5.2 ± 0.2 dB and 8.6 ± 0.3 dB, respectively, despite the 50% detection loss. This work, being the first exploration of an optical parametric amplifier’s multimode capability for squeezing detection, paves the way for the real-time detection of multimode squeezing.","lang":"eng"}],"_id":"63745","publisher":"Optica Publishing Group","user_id":"55907","volume":3,"status":"public","oa":"1","citation":{"mla":"Barakat, Ismail, et al. “Simultaneous Measurement of Multimode Squeezing through Multimode Phase-Sensitive Amplification.” <i>Optica Quantum</i>, vol. 3, no. 1, 36, Optica Publishing Group, 2025, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1364/opticaq.524682\">10.1364/opticaq.524682</a>.","apa":"Barakat, I., Kalash, M., Scharwald, D., Sharapova, P., Lindlein, N., &#38; Chekhova, M. To maintain high accuracy when deviating from the established circular scan trajectory, trajectory calibration methods using multi-sphere reference objects with known marker positions are commonly employed. These multi-sphere objects can either be scanned together with the measurement object (online trajectory calibration) or in a separate scan (offline trajectory calibration). While offline calibration increases machine time, it generally results in higher scan quality. However, a sufficient pose repeatability is necessary to ensure comparable or even superior accuracy to online calibration. In this contribution, we present a straightforward procedure to compare both types of trajectory calibration in a way that the differences of the results can directly be traced back to the influence of the pose repeatability. The multi-sphere reference object is not only used for trajectory calibration, but simultaneously as a measurement object for repeated measurements. The methodology is tested on both a twin robotic CT system and a conventional CT system that is additionally equipped with a hexapod manipulator for adaptive object tilting. Results showed, independent from the type of trajectory calibration, systematic measurement errors in the order of 10−5–10−4 of measured sphere distances and sphericity values below 50 \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n μ\r\n \r\n \r\n m\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n . This allows improved overall mechanical properties with reduced wall thickness of the sheet metal part and, thus, lower weight of the components. One of the main focuses of research into such hybrid structures is on the adhesive properties and the respective failure behaviour of the interfaces. Generally, the failure behaviour under the influence of mechanical loads can be divided into adhesive, cohesive and mixed-mode failure. The correlation between observed failure behaviour and adhesion properties of the hybrid composite materials is analysed in detail in this work. The hybrid composite consists of an aluminium sheet of the alloy EN AW‑6082 T6 and thermoset carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) prepreg. The aluminium sheet was laser pretreated before hybrid production to improve the adhesion properties. The specimens studied were produced by the prepreg pressing process, in which the components are cured and joined simultaneously. The influences of the thickness of the CFRP part, the layup, the fibre orientation at the boundary layer, and the laser pretreatment parameters on the properties of the hybrid joints were investigated.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"The Journal of Adhesion","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Prepreg pressing process","hybrid joints","laser surface pretreatment","intrinsic manufacturing","CFRP","aluminium","materials engineering"],"department":[{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"149"},{"_id":"9"}],"date_created":"2025-01-13T08:16:46Z","status":"public","user_id":"48039","page":"1-26","_id":"58163","publisher":"Informa UK Limited","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"chicago":"Wu, Shuang, Alexander Delp, Jonathan Freund, Frank Walther, Jan Haubrich, Miriam Löbbecke, and Thomas Tröster. “Correlation between Interlaminar Shear Strength of CFRP and Joint Strength of Aluminium-CFRP Hybrid Joints.” <i>The Journal of Adhesion</i>, 2025, 1–26. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1080/00218464.2024.2439956\">https://doi.org/10.1080/00218464.2024.2439956</a>.","short":"S. It begins by tracing the concept of resilience from systems theory to social and political life, showing that resilience in democracy is not a mechanical property of systems but a dynamic, human-driven practice grounded in agency, resistance, and collective self-determination. The paper argues that with emerging challenges in the digital sphere, such as misinformation, surveillance capitalism, platform monopolies, deepfakes, and hybrid warfare, democracy can only endure if its digital dimensions are protected and transformed. Building on this foundation, the paper introduces a holistic approach to resilient digital democracy that spans environmental, technological, economic, political, and cultural domains, and advances strategies such as public-commons digital infrastructures, platform co-operatives, public service Internet platforms, free/libre open source software (FLOSS), participatory innovations, and hybrid offline/online democratic practices. The result is a fresh, interdisciplinary vision of how democracy can be reinvented in the digital age.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Open Research Europe","doi":"10.12688/openreseurope.21988.2","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"387","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.12688/openreseurope.21988.2"}],"article_type":"original","intvolume":" 5","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-02-23T20:51:40Z","author":[{"full_name":"Fuchs, Christian","first_name":"Christian","orcid":"0000-0003-0589-4579","last_name":"Fuchs","id":"21863"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2732-5121"]},"title":"What is and how do we Achieve a Resilient Digital Democracy?","year":"2025","oa":"1","project":[{"_id":"1397","name":"INNOVAtive DEmocracy Through Digitalisation"}],"quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"ieee":"C. Multi-material design and the increasing trend towards producing large structural components using the megacasting process pose considerable challenges, particularly in the mechanical joining of aluminium-silicon (AlSi) castings. These castings typically exhibit low ductility and are prone to cracking when mechanically joined. Based on the excellent castability of hypoeutectic AlSi alloys, these are applied in sand casting and die casting as well as in megacasting. With a silicon content between 7 wt% and 12 wt%, these AlSi-alloys have a plate-like silicon phase that initiates cracks during mechanical joining. To enhance the joinability of castings, the research hypothesis is that improved solidification conditions enable a significant modification in the microstructure and therefore, increase the mechanical properties. During the manufacture of the castings using the sand casting process, the solidification conditions within the structural elements are varied to modify the microstructure to obtain castings with graded microstructure. The castings are evaluated using mechanical, microstructural and joining testing methods and finally, a microstructure-joinability correlation is established."}],"_id":"59872","volume":408,"user_id":"7850","conference":{"end_date":"2025-06-05","location":"Lissabon (Portugal)","name":"44th Conference of the International Deep Drawing Research Group (IDDRG 2025)","start_date":"2025-06-02"},"status":"public","oa":"1","citation":{"ieee":"M. Several diagnostics were employed to characterize the spray and nanoparticles. \r\nIncreasing DG flow (6 - 12 slm) results in smaller droplet sizes (DS), cooler flame temperatures, shorter high-temperature droplet/particle residence times, and smaller agglomerates in the size range of 5 - 12 nm with narrower primary particle size distribution, corresponding to higher mass fractal dimensions, as supported by TEM and SMPS analysis, resulting in more compact agglomerates. BET and TEM confirmed decreasing primary particle sizes with increasing DG flow. Raman and XRD analyses predominantly identified maghemite, which shows a bimodal distribution of crystallite sizes, while SS1 samples have a greater proportion of larger crystallites.\r\nThe self-preserving size distributions of agglomerates with a geometric standard deviation of 1.5 are reached faster with increasing DG flow. The barrier effect of DG observed in SS1 leads to slower droplet combustion kinetics, higher temperatures, and delayed precursor release, which, along with downstream flow recirculation, result in significantly higher agglomeration rates outside the visible flame. SS2 demonstrates improved atomization, more stable flames, and finer, uniform nanoparticles with less carbonaceous residues (CR). Conversely, SS1 showed broader DS distributions and higher CR levels on the γ-Fe2O3 surface, especially at higher DG flow.\r\nThis work highlights the essential role of DG flow and nozzle geometry in controlling droplet evaporation, flame stability, and nanoparticle growth, offering insights for optimizing SFS and validating numerical models.\r\n"}]},{"supervisor":[{"id":"178","first_name":"Helge","last_name":"Glöckner","full_name":"Glöckner, Helge"}],"citation":{"chicago":"Pinaud, Matthieu. <i>Manifold of Mappings and Regularity Properties of Half-Lie Groups</i>, 2025. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.17619/UNIPB/1-2211\">https://doi.org/10.17619/UNIPB/1-2211</a>.","short":"M.
