The influence of different parametrizations of the exchange-correlation functional on the investigated properties is analyzed in detail, and the results are compared to available experimental data. We argue that the PBEsol and AM05 generalized gradient approximations as well as the RTPSS meta-generalized gradient approximation yield consistently accurate structural data for both the external and internal degrees of freedom and are overall superior to the local-density approximation or other conventional generalized gradient approximations for the structural characterization of KNbO3. The dielectric function of the material is calculated within time-dependent density-functional theory. The effects of isolated intrinsic defects and defect pairs, including the NbLi4+ antisite and the NbLi4+−NbNb4+ pair, commonly addressed as a bound polaron and bipolaron, respectively, are discussed in detail. In addition, we present further possible realizations of polaronic and bipolaronic systems. The absorption feature around 1.64 eV, ascribed to small bound polarons [O. F. Schirmer et al., J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 21, 123201 (2009)], is nicely reproduced within these models. Among the investigated defects, we find that the presence of bipolarons at bound interstitial-vacancy pairs NbV−VLi can best explain the experimentally observed broad absorption band at 2.5 eV. Moreover, we disentangled effects of perceived abilities and subjective person–environment (P-E) fit on academic success. All in all, 693 teacher education students participated in an online questionnaire. Students were asked to rate general requirements of their academic programs (e.g., self-discipline) on a 5-point scale in terms of (1) their own abilities and (2) the perceived relevance for their studies. P-E fit was determined by difference scores between abilities and relevance ratings. Academic success was assessed by grades, perceived performance, and study satisfaction. Data were analyzed through structural equation modeling and suggest that academic success is best explained by a match between abilities and demands. Para tal efecto, se examinan\r\ndiferentes manifestaciones empíricas del capital intercultural y del analfabetismo intercultural: entre\r\nla población nacional, a través de las demandas de 49 comunidades indígenas sobre la evaluación\r\neducativa a nivel preescolar y primaria con base en un estudio de caso en la Escuela Normal\r\nSuperior de México, en donde se forma buena parte de los futuros maestros de secundaria del país.\r\nLos respectivos resultados cuantitativos y cualitativos demuestran las limitaciones y el potencial\r\nde la realización socioculturalmente justa de capital intercultural. Drawing on the findings of three recent research projects, the present article explores the prospects and limitations of intercultural capital realization in contemporary Mexico – at nearly two and a half decades of the country’s membership in the quintessentially neoliberal North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and with a particular interest in the field of intercultural education. Whilst the article does not engage in evaluations of NAFTA, nor offer a contribution to the critique of neoliberal globalization and the mercantilization of formal education, it nonetheless raises important questions for all those interested in alternative forms of intercultural cooperation that convey a vision beyond narrowly instrumental business interests. Se consideran (I) la valoración de la diversidad étnica-cultural y la presencia de los pueblos indígenas en términos de sus beneficios para México, (II) la percepción de la marginación de los pueblos originarios, (III) el nivel de apoyo al planteamiento de incluir la enseñanza de algunas lenguas indígenas en todas las escuelas de educación básica del país, (IV) la importancia atribuida a una formación magisterial inicial y continua que incluya prácticas profesionales en comunidades indígenas y (V) la importancia atribuida a la incorporación de temas interculturales en la formación magisterial inicial y continua. Por un lado, los respectivos datos empíricos demuestran una gran cercanía perceptual entre los encuestados indígenas (n=23) y los encuestados no indígenas (n=166), la cual es indicativa de un amplio consenso tras-étnico-cultural sobre el papel de las culturas indígenas del país y, particularmente, de su presencia dentro de la formación magisterial. The corresponding logistic regression model reveals a panorama of striking differences in the likelihood of intercultural capital embodiment – between receivers and non-receivers of formal education, between the economically affluent and non-affluent, between internet users and non-users, and between men and women. The respective findings offer an empirically grounded critique of voluntarist notions of personal intercultural development. The experiments have been performed as autocorrelation measurements with ps double pulse laser excitation for resonant and detuned conditions. Measured E-field autocorrelation functions reveal a very strong detuning dependence of the phase shift between laser and cavity field and of the autocorrelation amplitude of the cavity field. The fully resolved phase information allows for a precise frequency discrimination and hence for a precise measurement of the detuning between laser and cavity. The behavior of the autocorrelation amplitude and phase and their detuning dependence can be fully described by an analytic model. Furthermore, coherent control of the cavity field is demonstrated by tailored laser excitation with phase and amplitude controlled pulses. The experimental proof and verification of the above described phenomena became possible by an electric detection scheme, which employs planar photonic crystal microcavity photo diodes with metallic Schottky contacts in the defect region of the resonator. Highly \r\nconfined  solitons,  including  the  fundamental  and  the  higher-order  modes,  are  found  to  be  supported  by  the  proposed  structure  with  a  low  level  of  power  flow.  Numerical  analysis  reveals  that,  by  tuning  the  input  intensity  \r\nand Fermi energy, the beam diffraction, soliton dimension and propagation loss  can  be  fully  controlled  in  a  broad  range,  indicating  potential  values  of  the graphene-based solitons in nonlinear/active nanophotonic systems.
