These so-called fake production costs only occurred when not given the time to mentally prepare the deceptive movement. In the current study, we investigated if extensive practice could reduce the cognitive costs of producing a pass with head fake. Twenty-four basketball novices participated in an experiment on five consecutive days. A visual cue prompted participants to play a pass with or without a head fake either to the left or right side. The cued action had to be executed after an interstimulus interval (ISI) of either 0 ms, 400 ms, 800 ms or 1200 ms, allowing for different movement preparation times. Results indicated higher response initiation times (ITs) and error rates (ERs) for passes with head fakes for the short preparation intervals (ISI 0 ms and 400 ms) on the first day but no difference for the longer preparation intervals (ISI 800 ms and 1200 ms). After only one day of practice, participants showed reduced fake production costs (for ISI 0 ms) and were even able to eliminate these cognitive costs when given time to mentally prepare the movement (for ISI 400 ms). Accordingly, physical practice can reduce the cognitive costs associated with head-fake generation. This finding is discussed against the background of the strengthening of stimulus response associations.
"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00426-023-01885-x","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/s00426-023-01885-x","year":"2024","title":"Practice reduces the costs of producing head fakes in basketball","author":[{"full_name":"Böer, Nils Tobias","orcid":"0000-0002-0236-7282","last_name":"Böer","first_name":"Nils Tobias","id":"52000"},{"id":"36388","last_name":"Weigelt","first_name":"Matthias","full_name":"Weigelt, Matthias"},{"full_name":"Schütz, Christoph","first_name":"Christoph","last_name":"Schütz"},{"last_name":"Güldenpenning","first_name":"Iris","orcid":"0000-0003-0549-5543","full_name":"Güldenpenning, Iris","id":"52931"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0340-0727","1430-2772"]},"date_updated":"2026-05-03T11:16:46Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 88","article_type":"original"},{"status":"public","_id":"48544","page":"54-91","volume":54,"user_id":"71541","citation":{"chicago":"Gharibian, Sevag. “Guest Column: The 7 Faces of Quantum NP.” ACM SIGACT News 54, no. 4 (2024): 54–91.","short":"S. Using survey data on German small-and medium-sized firms, we find that the average perceived provision of public goods is not associated with the willingness to pay local business tax. Separating public goods into private-and business-related public goods, we find that the perception of public goods related to the private sphere of firms' decision-makers is associated with an increase in firms' willingness to pay local business tax by about 10%. However, public goods related to the business sphere show no similar association. Contradictory to the perceived provision of public goods, we find surprisingly no association between firms' willingness to pay local business tax and the actual provision of public goods. Trust in local governments' handling of tax revenue increases firms' willingness to pay local business tax significantly, with an effect size of about twice as large as for the perception of provided private-related public goods. These findings indicate that the handling of tax revenues exerts a more pronounced influence on firms' willingness to pay than the actual utilization of these revenues. Documenting tax revenue implications, we further show that the average willingness to pay local business tax within a local government is associated with a significant decrease in tax avoidance by about 10%. Our results inform local governments about how the provision of public goods and the building of trust can sustainably contribute to firms' willingness to pay local business tax. Thus, our results contribute to the understanding of how taxes can be efficiently collected and effectively used."}],"citation":{"chicago":"Giese, Henning, and Vanessa Heinemann-Heile. Firms’ Perception of a Fair Tax Burden - The Impact of Trust and Public Goods. Using a hand-collected dataset of more than 7,500 tax employees from 348 European-listed multinationals, we identify two types of firm-level costs associated with tax complexity—tax employees, and tax risk. We find that firms locate more tax employees in countries with greater tax complexity. This association is particularly pronounced for complexity in tax procedures. We also find that multinationals operating in countries with high tax complexity are associated with higher tax risk. The incremental tax risk vanishes for firms that locate more tax employees in countries with highly complex tax procedures, while we find no risk reduction from additional tax employees in countries with complex tax rules. Our results reveal that multinationals eliminate 25 percent of overall tax complexity-related tax risk through targeted location of tax employees.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-12-19T13:22:08Z","oa":"1","department":[{"_id":"187"}],"type":"working_paper","keyword":["tax complexity","tax complexity cost","tax department","tax employees","tax risk"]},{"date_updated":"2026-06-16T09:55:08Z","publication_status":"published","author":[{"full_name":"Radermacher, Katharina","first_name":"Katharina","last_name":"Radermacher","id":"47691"},{"full_name":"Schneider, Martin","first_name":"Martin","last_name":"Schneider","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6961-3716","id":"471"}],"status":"public","title":"HR-Praktiken als Ressourcenmanager: Wie die Schwächen flexibler und unflexibler Arbeitsmodelle kompensiert werden können. Anschließend wird ein inverses Verfahren angewendet, um die Materialparameter in Abhängigkeit von der aufgebrachten Last zu ermitteln.","lang":"ger"}],"language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"author":[{"id":"44026","full_name":"Friesen, Olga","orcid":"0009-0007-5598-9484","first_name":"Olga","last_name":"Friesen"},{"full_name":"Pasha, Muhammad Ahsan","first_name":"Muhammad Ahsan","last_name":"Pasha"},{"full_name":"Schwengelbeck, Max","first_name":"Max","last_name":"Schwengelbeck"},{"id":"11829","full_name":"Claes, Leander","first_name":"Leander","last_name":"Claes","orcid":"0000-0002-4393-268X"},{"id":"15164","full_name":"Baumhögger, Elmar","last_name":"Baumhögger","first_name":"Elmar"},{"full_name":"Henning, Bernd","first_name":"Bernd","last_name":"Henning","id":"213"}],"year":"2024","title":"Untersuchung piezoelektrischer Materialeigenschaften unter hydrostatischer Last","date_updated":"2026-06-18T12:04:01Z","publication_status":"published"},{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"This volume examines the Rabbinic, Qur’anic and Christian understandings of prophecy from a historical and comparative theological perspective. The Rabbinic perspectives on the phenomenon of prophecy are analyzed in their historical continuity and engagement with the theological traditions of Islam and Christianity. The examination of female prophecy also occupies a central place here. Similarly, several contributors describe the deep roots of Qur’anic prophetology in the Christian and Jewish traditions of Late Antiquity and the Arabic context. Finally, the anthology attempts to reflect on these different theological traditions of prophecy in the Christian, Jewish, and Qur’anic traditions from a comparative theological perspective and to discuss the possible theological significance of this phenomenon in the modern age. As a substantial number of these websites do not support TLS encryption, censorship of unencrypted HTTP requests remains prevalent. Accordingly, circumvention techniques can and have been found for the HTTP protocol. In this paper, we infer novel circumvention techniques on the HTTP layer from a web security vulnerability by utilizing HTTP request smuggling (HRS). To demonstrate the viability of our techniques, we collected various test vectors from previous work about HRS and evaluated them on popular web servers and censors in China, Russia, and Iran. Our findings show that HRS can be successfully employed as a censorship circumvention technique against multiple censors and web servers. We also discover a standard-compliant circumvention technique in Russia, unusually inconsistent censorship in China, and an implementation bug in Iran. The results of this work imply that censorship circumvention techniques can successfully be constructed from existing vulnerabilities. We conjecture that this implication provides insights to the censorship circumvention community beyond the viability of specific techniques presented in this work."}],"publication":"Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies","department":[{"_id":"632"}],"type":"conference","keyword":["censorship","censorship circumvention","http","http request smuggling"],"date_created":"2024-07-09T07:49:37Z","file":[{"date_created":"2024-07-09T07:42:54Z","creator":"flange","content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"55139","file_size":189676,"access_level":"local","file_name":"Turning Attacks into Advantages_ Evading HTTP Censorship with HTTP Request Smuggling - foci-2024-0012.pdf","date_updated":"2026-08-17T07:40:56Z","relation":"main_file"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-08-17T07:40:56Z","author":[{"full_name":"Müller, Philipp","last_name":"Müller","first_name":"Philipp"},{"first_name":"Niklas","last_name":"Niere","full_name":"Niere, Niklas","id":"63563"},{"first_name":"Felix","last_name":"Lange","full_name":"Lange, Felix","id":"67893"},{"orcid":"0000-0002-3593-7720","first_name":"Juraj","last_name":"Somorovsky","full_name":"Somorovsky, Juraj","id":"83504"}],"title":"Turning Attacks into Advantages: Evading HTTP Censorship with HTTP Request Smuggling","year":"2024","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://www.petsymposium.org/foci/2024/foci-2024-0012.pdf"}]},{"year":"2024","title":"Schulisches Wohlbefinden von Schüler*innen der Sekundarstufe I in inklusiven Lerngruppen – Analysen zum Entwicklungsverlauf an der Laborschule Bielefeld","author":[{"last_name":"Marker","first_name":"Rabea","full_name":"Marker, Rabea"},{"orcid":"0000-0001-5488-5105","last_name":"Kullmann","first_name":"Harry","full_name":"Kullmann, Harry","id":"77972"},{"last_name":"Zentarra","first_name":"Dominik","full_name":"Zentarra, Dominik"},{"full_name":"Geist, Sabine","first_name":"Sabine","last_name":"Geist"},{"last_name":"Lütje-Klose","first_name":"Birgit","full_name":"Lütje-Klose, Birgit"}],"date_updated":"2026-08-21T13:55:40Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 52","article_type":"original","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s42010-024-00199-0"}],"language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"doi":"10.1007/s42010-024-00199-0","publication":"Unterrichtswissenschaft","abstract":[{"lang":"ger","text":"Das schulische Wohlbefinden ist ein grundlegendes, sozio-emo-\r\ntionales Bedürfnis aller Schüler*innen und daher ein zentraler Qualitätsindikator\r\ninklusiver Schulen. This study examines the roles of teacher\r\nattitudes and self-efficacy in predicting their intentions to use inclusive\r\npractices across five western countries: Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy,\r\nand Switzerland. The study identified both significant differences and\r\ncommonalities in prediction patterns across these countries. For instance,\r\nbeliefs about inclusion varied in their significance, being the most\r\ninfluential predictor among Italian teachers, while managing challenging behaviour was a key predictor for Swiss teachers only. For the other\r\npredictors, no significant differences were found, and self-efficacy in\r\ncollaboration was the strongest predictor nominally. The study suggests\r\nthat, while aspects such as collaboration seem generally important across\r\ncountries, effective strategies for promoting inclusive education may also\r\nneed to be tailored to each country’s unique context, considering aspects of\r\nhistorical background of inclusive education, teacher training, and support.\r\nIt also emphasizes the need to consider domain-specific aspects of teacher\r\nself-efficacy, as different facets differently affect teachers’ intentions."}],"publication":"Exceptionality Education International","issue":"1","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"556"}],"date_created":"2024-04-25T13:17:00Z","status":"public","jel":["I24"],"user_id":"105186","volume":34,"page":"17-41","_id":"53661","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"mla":"Sahli Lozano, Caroline, et al. “How Do Attitudes and Self-Efficacy Predict Teachers’Intentions to Use Inclusive Practices? This study involved a multi-national exploration of a further dimension of\r\ninclusive education, collective efficacy, through the testing of a new tool, the Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practice-Collective (TEIP-C) Scale. The study also aimed to investigate whether teacher\r\nattitudes, self-efficacy, collective efficacy and intention to teach in inclusive classrooms differ across countries. Participants included 1,523 teachers from Canada, Greece, Italy and Switzerland. Results\r\nsuggested a two-factor structure for the TEIP-C, Engagement, and Inclusive Pedagogies, with strong internal consistency for the scale. Several differences across countries were identified, with teachers\r\nfrom Italy reporting more positive attitudes towards inclusion and a greater intention to teach in inclusive classrooms. Implications of the study in terms of further strengthening inclusive practice are\r\ndiscussed."}],"issue":"2","publication":"European Journal of Special Needs Education"},{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"The study examines whether the announcement and passing of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) impacts the sustainability reporting of German firms. It sheds light on the interdependence of various actors, sectors and policy levels by examining how regulatory changes at the policy level affect the reporting practices of firms across multiple sectors. On the one hand, the scope of the CSRD is being extended, so that new firms falling within its scope may increase their voluntary sustainability reporting as part of the preparation process. On the other hand, the reporting requirements will be more stringent, so that firms currently under the mandate of the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) may enhance their sustainability reporting disclosure practices in preparation for the CSRD. First, we find no increase in voluntary sustainability reporting by firms that are not under the scope of the NFRD but will be under the scope of the CSRD. Second, we find enhanced sustainability reporting practices by firms that are subject to the NFRD after the CSRD’s announcement and passing. This finding suggests that these firms begin to implement the new reporting requirements before the first reports are published in 2025. We illuminate the preparation for extensive reporting changes through sustainability reporting disclosure practices as an outcome of the preparation process. These changes may represent a high burden, particularly for firms with no previous experience of sustainability reporting."}],"issue":"1","publication":"Sustainability Nexus Forum","department":[{"_id":"186"},{"_id":"551"},{"_id":"635"}],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2026-06-15T08:12:38Z","intvolume":" 32","date_updated":"2026-08-25T10:19:16Z","publication_status":"published","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2948-1627"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Kosi, Urska","orcid":"0009-0009-2545-5929","last_name":"Kosi","first_name":"Urska","id":"54068"},{"full_name":"Relard, Paula","first_name":"Paula","last_name":"Relard"}],"title":"Are firms (getting) ready for the corporate sustainability reporting directive?","year":"2024","doi":"10.1007/s00550-024-00541-1","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00550-024-00541-1","open_access":"1"}],"article_number":"5","citation":{"mla":"Kosi, Urska, and Paula Relard. “Are Firms (Getting) Ready for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive?” Sustainability Nexus Forum, vol. 32, no. 1, 5, Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2024, doi:10.1007/s00550-024-00541-1.","bibtex":"@article{Kosi_Relard_2024, title={Are firms (getting) ready for the corporate sustainability reporting directive?}, volume={32}, DOI={10.1007/s00550-024-00541-1}, number={15}, journal={Sustainability Nexus Forum}, publisher={Springer Science and Business Media LLC}, author={Kosi, Urska and Relard, Paula}, year={2024} }","ama":"Kosi U, Relard P.
