--- _id: '45911' abstract: - lang: eng text: "Label noise poses an important challenge in machine learning, especially in\r\ndeep learning, in which large models with high expressive power dominate the\r\nfield. Models of that kind are prone to memorizing incorrect labels, thereby\r\nharming generalization performance. Many methods have been proposed to address\r\nthis problem, including robust loss functions and more complex label correction\r\napproaches. Robust loss functions are appealing due to their simplicity, but\r\ntypically lack flexibility, while label correction usually adds substantial\r\ncomplexity to the training setup. In this paper, we suggest to address the\r\nshortcomings of both methodologies by \"ambiguating\" the target information,\r\nadding additional, complementary candidate labels in case the learner is not\r\nsufficiently convinced of the observed training label. More precisely, we\r\nleverage the framework of so-called superset learning to construct set-valued\r\ntargets based on a confidence threshold, which deliver imprecise yet more\r\nreliable beliefs about the ground-truth, effectively helping the learner to\r\nsuppress the memorization effect. In an extensive empirical evaluation, our\r\nmethod demonstrates favorable learning behavior on synthetic and real-world\r\nnoise, confirming the effectiveness in detecting and correcting erroneous\r\ntraining labels." author: - first_name: Julian full_name: Lienen, Julian id: '44040' last_name: Lienen - first_name: Eyke full_name: Hüllermeier, Eyke id: '48129' last_name: Hüllermeier citation: ama: Lienen J, Hüllermeier E. The tool offers the possibility of implementing the design principle of profession orientation. In the article, we theoretically clarify what we understand by this principle and locate our innovative concept against this theoretical background. We empirically investigate the extent to which counteraction against the second discontinuity is successful by analyzing reflection texts created in the interface ePortfolio, focusing on PSTs’ perspectives. Our qualitative content analysis shows that most of them perceive the innovation as helpful in the intended sense and indicates that the course concept, in general, and the interface ePortfolio, in particular, have helped establish relevant links between the course content and their later work as teachers. article_type: original author: - first_name: Max full_name: Hoffmann, Max id: '32202' last_name: Hoffmann orcid: 0000-0002-6964-7123 - first_name: Rolf full_name: Biehler, Rolf id: '16274' last_name: Biehler citation: ama: Hoffmann M, Biehler R. As in the early days of GPUs in HPC, for workloads that can reasonably be decoupled into loosely coupled working sets, multi-accelerator support can be achieved by using standard communication interfaces like MPI on the host side. However, for performance and productivity, some applications can profit from a tighter coupling of the accelerators. FPGAs offer unique opportunities here when extending the dataflow characteristics to their communication interfaces.\r\n \ In this work, we extend the HPCC FPGA benchmark suite by multi-FPGA support and three missing benchmarks that particularly characterize or stress inter-device communication: b_eff, PTRANS, and LINPACK. With all benchmarks implemented for current boards with Intel and Xilinx FPGAs, we established a baseline for multi-FPGA performance. Additionally, for the communication-centric benchmarks, we explored the potential of direct FPGA-to-FPGA communication with a circuit-switched inter-FPGA network that is currently only available for one of the boards. The evaluation with parallel execution on up to 26 FPGA boards makes use of one of the largest academic FPGA installations." author: - first_name: Marius full_name: Meyer, Marius id: '40778' last_name: Meyer - first_name: Tobias full_name: Kenter, Tobias id: '3145' last_name: Kenter - first_name: Christian full_name: Plessl, Christian id: '16153' last_name: Plessl orcid: 0000-0001-5728-9982 citation: ama: Meyer M, Kenter T, Plessl C. Complex applications with high demands on safety and reliability, such as autonomous driving, are simultaneously driving the requirements for test and diagnosis of VLSI circuits. Throughout the life cycle of a microchip, uncertainties occur that affect its timing behavior. For example, weak circuit structures, aging effects, or process variations can lead to a change in the timing behavior of the circuit. While these uncertainties do not necessarily lead to a change of the functional behavior, they can lead to a reliability problem.\r\nWith modular and hybrid compaction two test instruments are presented in this work that can be used for X-tolerant test response compaction in the built-in Faster-than-At-Speed Test (FAST) which is used to detect uncertainties in VLSI circuits. One challenge for test response compaction during FAST is the high and varying X-rate at the outputs of the circuit under test. By dividing the circuit outputs into test groups and separately compacting these test groups using stochastic compactors, the modular compaction is able to handle these high and varying X-rates.\r\nTo deal with uncertainties on logic interconnects, a method for distinguishing crosstalk and process variation is presented. In current semiconductor technologies, the number of parasitic coupling capacitances between logic interconnects is growing. These coupling capacitances can lead to crosstalk, which causes increased current flow in the logic interconnects, which in turn can lead to increased electromigration. In the presented method, delay maps describing the timing behavior of the circuit outputs at different operating points are used to train artificial neural networks which classify the tested circuits into fault-free and faulty." A. Until now, the situation where for large-scale systems, we (i) only have access to partial observations (i.e., measurements, as is very common for experimental data) or (ii) deliberately perform coarse\r\ngraining (for efficiency reasons) has not been treated to its full extent. In this paper, we address the pitfall associated with this situation, that the classical EDMD algorithm does not automatically provide a Koopman operator approximation for the underlying system if we do not carefully select the number of observables. Moreover, we show that symmetries in the system dynamics can be carried over to the Koopman operator, which allows us to massively increase the model efficiency. We also briefly draw a connection to domain decomposition techniques for partial differential equations and present numerical evidence using the Kuramoto--Sivashinsky equation." author: - first_name: Sebastian full_name: Peitz, Sebastian id: '47427' last_name: Peitz orcid: 0000-0002-3389-793X - first_name: Hans full_name: Harder, Hans id: '98879' last_name: Harder - first_name: Feliks full_name: Nüske, Feliks last_name: Nüske - first_name: Friedrich full_name: Philipp, Friedrich last_name: Philipp - first_name: Manuel full_name: Schaller, Manuel last_name: Schaller - first_name: Karl full_name: Worthmann, Karl last_name: Worthmann citation: ama: Peitz S, Harder H, Nüske F, Philipp F, Schaller M, Worthmann K. Despite its popularity, convergence results and, in particular, error bounds are still quite scarce. In this paper, we derive probabilistic bounds for the approximation error and the prediction error depending on the number of training data points; for both ordinary and stochastic differential equations. Moreover, we extend our analysis to nonlinear control-affine systems using either ergodic trajectories or i.i.d.\r\nsamples. Here, we exploit the linearity of the Koopman generator to obtain a bilinear system and, thus, circumvent the curse of dimensionality since we do not autonomize the system by augmenting the state by the control inputs. To the\r\nbest of our knowledge, this is the first finite-data error analysis in the stochastic and/or control setting. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach by comparing it with state-of-the-art techniques showing its superiority whenever state and control are coupled." article_number: '14' author: - first_name: Feliks full_name: Nüske, Feliks id: '81513' last_name: Nüske orcid: 0000-0003-2444-7889 - first_name: Sebastian full_name: Peitz, Sebastian id: '47427' last_name: Peitz orcid: 0000-0002-3389-793X - first_name: Friedrich full_name: Philipp, Friedrich last_name: Philipp - first_name: Manuel full_name: Schaller, Manuel last_name: Schaller - first_name: Karl full_name: Worthmann, Karl last_name: Worthmann citation: ama: Nüske F, Peitz S, Philipp F, Schaller M, Worthmann K. These can address different main tasks (i.e., in the\r\nsetting of Multi-Task Learning), but also main and secondary tasks such as loss\r\nminimization versus sparsity. The usual approach is a simple weighting of the\r\ncriteria, which formally only works in the convex setting. In this paper, we\r\npresent a Multi-Objective Optimization algorithm using a modified Weighted\r\nChebyshev scalarization for training Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) with respect\r\nto several tasks. By employing this scalarization technique, the algorithm can\r\nidentify all optimal solutions of the original problem while reducing its\r\ncomplexity to a sequence of single-objective problems. The simplified problems\r\nare then solved using an Augmented Lagrangian method, enabling the use of\r\npopular optimization techniques such as Adam and Stochastic Gradient Descent,\r\nwhile efficaciously handling constraints. Our work aims to address the\r\n(economical and also ecological) sustainability issue of DNN models, with a\r\nparticular focus on Deep Multi-Task models, which are typically designed with a\r\nvery large number of weights to perform equally well on multiple tasks. Through\r\nexperiments conducted on two Machine Learning datasets, we demonstrate the\r\npossibility of adaptively sparsifying the model during training without\r\nsignificantly impacting its performance, if we are willing to apply\r\ntask-specific adaptations to the network weights. For this purpose, dry blends of glass beads with and without organosilane coupling agents and polyamide powder were prepared and processed into tensile specimens on an EOS P396 laser sintering system. The samples were tested both in the dry state and after an accelerated conditioning in a climate chamber. Furthermore, finite element method (FEM) simulations were performed to model the extreme cases of optimum adhesion and no adhesion. By correlating the tensile tests with the simulation results and by analyzing the fracture surfaces, it was shown that the filler–matrix adhesion is sufficient in the dry state but is strongly degraded by conditioning. Even the presence of various organosilane thin films could not prevent a strong deterioration of the filler–matrix adhesion and the associated deterioration of the mechanical properties. Since a comparison with an injection-molded sample of the same polymer filler combination shows identical behavior after conditioning, it is assumed that this problem is not limited to additively manufactured parts. author: - first_name: Ivo full_name: Kletetzka, Ivo id: '50769' last_name: Kletetzka - first_name: Maren full_name: Kosanke, Maren last_name: Kosanke - first_name: Dennis full_name: Meinderink, Dennis last_name: Meinderink - first_name: Vanessa full_name: Neßlinger, Vanessa last_name: Neßlinger - first_name: Guido full_name: Grundmeier, Guido id: '194' last_name: Grundmeier - first_name: Hans-Joachim full_name: Schmid, Hans-Joachim id: '464' last_name: Schmid orcid: 000-0001-8590-1921 citation: ama: Kletetzka I, Kosanke M, Meinderink D, Neßlinger V, Grundmeier G, Schmid H-J. This has already been investigated intensively by various authors. However, the ageing of the material at ambient temperatures during shelf life has not been the focus so far. The need to analyse the shelf life can be derived from an ecological and economic point of view. This work is focusing on the shelf life of PA2200 (PA12). To reduce the potential influences of powder production fluctuations, two different powder batches stored for 5.5 years and 6.5 years are investigated and compared to a reference powder produced 0.5 years before these investigations. Multiple powder analyses and part characterisations have been performed. A significant yellowing and molecular chain length reduction can be derived from the measurement results. Whereas the influence on mechanical part performance was minor, the parts built with the stored powders are more yellowish. As it is most likely that this is due to the consumption of polyamide stabilisers, it can be assumed that these parts will be subject to significantly faster ageing. Therefore, it is still not recommended to use the stored powders for critical parts or light intense and humid environments. author: - first_name: Sven Helge full_name: Klippstein, Sven Helge id: '71545' last_name: Klippstein - first_name: Ivo full_name: Kletetzka, Ivo id: '50769' last_name: Kletetzka - first_name: Ilknur full_name: Sural, Ilknur last_name: Sural - first_name: Hans-Joachim full_name: Schmid, Hans-Joachim id: '464' last_name: Schmid orcid: 000-0001-8590-1921 citation: ama: Klippstein SH, Kletetzka I, Sural I, Schmid H-J. Two different approaches are physical modelling and data‐driven modelling, both of which have their respective advantages and disadvantages. By combining these two approaches, hybrid models can be created in which the respective disadvantages are mitigated, with discrepancy models being a particular subclass. Here, the basic system behaviour is described physically, that is, in the form of differential equations. Inaccuracies resulting from insufficient modelling or numerics lead to a discrepancy between the measurements and the model, which can be compensated by a data‐driven error correction term. Since discrepancy methods still require a large amount of measurement data, this paper investigates the extent to which a single discrepancy model can be trained for a physical model with additional parameter dependencies without the need for retraining. As an example, a damped electromagnetic oscillating circuit is used. The physical model is realised by a differential equation describing the electric current, considering only inductance and capacitance; dissipation due to resistance is neglected. This creates a discrepancy between measurement and model, which is corrected by a data‐driven model. In the experiments, the inductance and the capacity are varied. It is found that the same data‐driven model can only be used if additional parametric dependencies in the data‐driven term are considered as well. author: - first_name: Meike Claudia full_name: Wohlleben, Meike Claudia id: '43991' last_name: Wohlleben orcid: 0009-0009-9767-7168 - first_name: Lars full_name: Muth, Lars id: '77313' last_name: Muth orcid: 0000-0002-2938-5616 - first_name: Sebastian full_name: Peitz, Sebastian id: '47427' last_name: Peitz orcid: 0000-0002-3389-793X - first_name: Walter full_name: Sextro, Walter id: '21220' last_name: Sextro citation: ama: 'Wohlleben MC, Muth L, Peitz S, Sextro W. The objective of the challenge is to identify and diagnose known faults as well as unknown anomalies in the spacecraft’s propulsion system, which is critical for ensuring the spacecraft’s proper functionality and safety. To address this challenge, the proposed method follows a systematic approach of feature extraction, feature selection, and model development. The models employed in this study are kMeans clustering and decision trees combined to ensembles, enriched with expert knowledge. With the method presented, our team was capable of reaching high accuracy in identifying anomalies as well as diagnosing faults, resulting in attaining the seventh place with a score of 93.08 %. author: - first_name: Osarenren Kennedy full_name: Aimiyekagbon, Osarenren Kennedy id: '9557' last_name: Aimiyekagbon - first_name: Alexander full_name: Löwen, Alexander last_name: Löwen - first_name: Amelie full_name: Bender, Amelie id: '54290' last_name: Bender - first_name: Lars full_name: Muth, Lars id: '77313' last_name: Muth orcid: 0000-0002-2938-5616 - first_name: Walter full_name: Sextro, Walter id: '21220' last_name: Sextro citation: ama: 'Aimiyekagbon OK, Löwen A, Bender A, Muth L, Sextro W. The study investigates two different ways of guiding the addressee of an explanation - an explainee, through action demonstration: contrastive and non-contrastive. Their effect was tested on attention to specific action elements (goal) as well as on event memory. In an eye-tracking experiment, participants were shown different motion videos that were either contrastive or non-contrastive with respect to the segments of movement presentation. Given that everyday action demonstration is often multimodal, the stimuli were created with re- spect to their visual and verbal presentation. For visual presentation, a video combined two movements in a contrastive (e.g., Up-motion following a Down-motion) or non-contrastive way (e.g., two Up-motions following each other). For verbal presentation, each video was combined with a sequence of instruction descriptions in the form of negative (i.e., contrastive) or assertive (i.e., non-contrastive) guidance. It was found that a) attention to the event goal increased for this condition in the later time window, and b) participants’ recall of the event was facilitated when a visually contrastive motion was combined with a verbal contrast.

The richness in information, however, may come with challenges in data interpretation, as one has to disentangle the many different effects like multiple reflections, phase jumps at interfaces, or the influence of the Guoy-phase. In order to facilitate interpretation, the work presented here proposes an easy-to-use semi-analytical modeling Ansatz, which bases upon known analytical solutions using Gaussian beams. Specifically, we apply this Ansatz to compute nonlinear optical responses of (thin film) optical materials. We try to conserve the meaning of intuitive parameters like the Gouy-phase and the nonlinear coherent interaction length. In particular, the concept of coherence length is extended, which is a must when using focal beams. The model is subsequently applied to exemplary cases of second- and third-harmonic generation. We observe a very good agreement with experimental data, and furthermore, despite the constraints and limits of the analytical Ansatz, our model performs similarly well as when using more rigorous simulations. However, it outperforms the latter in terms of computational power, requiring more than three orders less computational time and less performant computer systems. article_number: '123105' article_type: original author: - first_name: Kai J. full_name: Spychala, Kai J. last_name: Spychala - first_name: Zeeshan H. full_name: Amber, Zeeshan H. last_name: Amber - first_name: Lukas M. full_name: Eng, Lukas M. last_name: Eng - first_name: Michael full_name: Rüsing, Michael id: '22501' last_name: Rüsing orcid: 0000-0003-4682-4577 citation: ama: 'Spychala KJ, Amber ZH, Eng LM, Rüsing M. In the process of moralisation, therefore, faith communities such as the Catholic Church also repeatedly seized the floor to propagate certain norms. The article examines the contributions of theologians from Spain, the USA and West Germany in the 1940s and 1950s. It concludes that the norms of taxation they propagated differed greatly depending on the institutional and economic frameworks within which they operated. The analysis proves taxation to be a field of economic action and societal dispute where economics and morality are indissolubly interconnected.' author: - first_name: Korinna full_name: Schönhärl, Korinna id: '89037' last_name: Schönhärl orcid: 0000-0002-7967-3261 citation: ama: 'Schönhärl K. Negation is a linguistic strategy that is often used in explanations. It creates a contrast space between the affirmed and the negated item that enriches explaining processes with additional contextual information. While negation in human speech has been shown to lead to higher processing costs and worse task performance in terms of recall or action execution when used in isolation, it can decrease processing costs when used in context. So far, it has not been considered as a guiding strategy for explanations in human-robot interaction. We conducted an empirical study to investigate the use of negation as a guiding strategy in explanatory human-robot dialogue, in which a virtual robot explains tasks and possible actions to a human explainee to solve them in terms of gestures on a touchscreen. Our results show that negation vs. affirmation 1) increases processing costs measured as reaction time and 2) increases several aspects of task performance. While there was no significant effect of negation on the number of initially correctly executed gestures, we found a significantly lower number of attempts—measured as breaks in the finger movement data before the correct gesture was carried out—when being instructed through a negation. We further found that the gestures significantly resembled the presented prototype gesture more following an instruction with a negation as opposed to an affirmation. Also, the participants rated the benefit of contrastive vs. affirmative explanations significantly higher. Repeating the instructions decreased the effects of negation, yielding similar processing costs and task performance measures for negation and affirmation after several iterations. We discuss our results with respect to possible effects of negation on linguistic processing of explanations and limitations of our study. article_type: original author: - first_name: A. full_name: Groß, A. last_name: Groß - first_name: Amit full_name: Singh, Amit id: '91018' last_name: Singh orcid: 0000-0002-7789-1521 - first_name: Ngoc Chi full_name: Banh, Ngoc Chi id: '38219' last_name: Banh orcid: 0000-0002-5946-4542 - first_name: B. full_name: Richter, B. last_name: Richter - first_name: Ingrid full_name: Scharlau, Ingrid id: '451' last_name: Scharlau orcid: 0000-0003-2364-9489 - first_name: Katharina J. full_name: Rohlfing, Katharina J. id: '50352' last_name: Rohlfing - first_name: B. full_name: Wrede, B. last_name: Wrede citation: ama: Groß A, Singh A, Banh NC, et al. In the \r\nfield of laser sintering (LS), these materials are less common so far. In order to extend the available \r\nmaterial variety for the LS process, new ceramic-filled Polyamide 613 powders are investigated\r\nwithin the scope of this work. Here, the resulting properties from two different powder production \r\nmethods are compared. One filled powder is produced by dry blending and the other powder with \r\nthe same filler and filling ratio is produced by encapsulating the filler particles inside the polymer \r\nparticles within the dissolution-precipitation process. It was found that encapsulating the filler \r\nparticles can provide certain benefits for the processability, for example an improved powder \r\nflowability or better filler dispersion. However, encapsulating the filler also alters the thermal \r\nproperties of the precipitated powder." author: - first_name: Ivo full_name: Kletetzka, Ivo id: '50769' last_name: Kletetzka - first_name: Fabian full_name: Neitzel, Fabian last_name: Neitzel - first_name: Hans-Joachim full_name: Schmid, Hans-Joachim id: '464' last_name: Schmid orcid: 000-0001-8590-1921 citation: ama: 'Kletetzka I, Neitzel F, Schmid H-J.
