text: "\r\nPredictive Maintenance as a desirable maintenance strategy in industrial
applications relies on suitable condition monitoring solutions to reduce costs
and risks of the monitored technical systems. In general, those solutions utilize
model-based or data-driven methods to diagnose the current state or predict future
states of monitored technical systems. However, both methods have their advantages
and drawbacks. Combining both methods can improve uncertainty consideration and
accuracy. Different combination approaches of those hybrid methods exist to exploit
synergy effects. The choice of an appropriate approach depends on different requirements
and the goal behind the selection of a hybrid approach.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIn this
work, the hybrid approach for estimating remaining useful lifetime takes potential
uncertainties into account. Therefore, a data-driven estimation of new measurements
is integrated within a model-based method. To consider uncertainties within the
system, a differentiation between different system behavior is realized throughout
diverse states of degradation.\r\n\r\nThe developed hybrid prediction approach
bases on a particle filtering method combined with a machine learning method,
to estimate the remaining useful lifetime of technical systems. Particle filtering
as a Monte Carlo simulation technique is suitable to map and propagate uncertainties.
Moreover, it is a state-of-the-art model-based method for predicting remaining
useful lifetime of technical systems. To integrate uncertainties a multi-model
particle filtering approach is employed. In general, resampling as a part of the
particle filtering approach has the potential to lead to an accurate prediction.
However, in the case where no future measurements are available, it may increase
the uncertainty of the prediction. By estimating new measurements, those uncertainties
are reduced within the data-driven part of the approach. Hence, both parts of
the hybrid approach strive to account for and reduce uncertainties.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nRubber-metal-elements
are employed as a use-case to evaluate the developed approach. Rubber-metal-elements,
which are used to isolate vibrations in various systems, such as railways, trucks
and wind turbines, show various uncertainties in their behavior and their degradation.
Those uncertainties are caused by diverse inner and outer factors, such as manufacturing
influences and operating conditions. By expert knowledge the influences are described,
analyzed and if possible reduced. However, the remaining uncertainties are considered
within the hybrid prediction method. Relative temperature is the selected measurand
to describe the element’s degradation. In lifetime tests, it is measured as the
difference between the element’s temperature and the ambient temperature. Thereby,
the influence of the ambient temperature on the element’s temperature is taken
into account. Those elements show three typical states of degradation that are
identified within the temperature measurements. Depending on the particular state
of degradation a new measurement is estimated within the hybrid approach to reduce
potential uncertainties.\r\n\r\nFinally, the performance of the developed hybrid
method is compared to a model-based method for estimating the remaining useful
lifetime of the same elements. Suitable performance indices are implemented to
underline the differences between the results."

text: Several methods, including order analysis, wavelet analysis and empirical
mode decomposition have been proposed and successfully employed for the health
state estimation of technical systems operating under varying conditions. However,
where information such as the speed of rotating machinery, component specifications
or other domain-specific information is unavailable, such methods are often infeasible.
Thus, this paper investigates the application of classical time-domain features,
features from the medical field and novel features from the highly comparative
time-series analysis (HCTSA) package, for the health state estimation of rotating
machinery operating under varying conditions. Furthermore, several feature selection
methods are investigated to identify features as viable health indicators for
the diagnostics and prognostics of technical systems. As a case study, the presented
methods are evaluated on real-world and experimentally acquired vibration data
of bearings operating under varying speed. The results show that the selected
features can successfully be employed as health indicators for technical systems
    operating under varying conditions.

text: In the industry 4.0 era, there is a growing need to transform unstructured
data acquired by a multitude of sources into information and subsequently into
knowledge to improve the quality of manufactured products, to boost production,
for predictive maintenance, etc. Data-driven approaches, such as machine learning
techniques, are typically employed to model the underlying relationship from data.
However, an increase in model accuracy with state-of-the-art methods, such as
deep convolutional neural networks, results in less interpretability and transparency.
Due to the ease of implementation, interpretation and transparency to both domain
experts and non-experts, a rule-based method is proposed in this paper, for prognostics
and health management (PHM) and specifically for diagnostics. The proposed method
utilizes the most relevant sensor signals acquired via feature extraction and
selection techniques and expert knowledge. As a case study, the presented method
is evaluated on data from a real-world quality control set-up provided by the
European prognostics and health management society (PHME) at the conference’s
2021 data challenge. With the proposed method, our team took the third place,
capable of successfully diagnosing different fault modes, irrespective of varying
    conditions.

text: We consider a measure given as the continuum limit of a one-dimensional Ising
model with long-range translationally invariant interactions. Mathematically,
the measure can be described by a self-interacting Poisson driven jump process.
We prove a correlation inequality, estimating the magnetic susceptibility of this
model, which holds for small norm of the interaction function. The bound on the
magnetic susceptibility has applications in quantum field theory and can be used
to prove existence of ground states for the spin boson model.

text: This paper deals with a novel method for the online fitting of a microscopic
traffic simulation model to the current state of a real world traffic area. The
traffic state estimation is based on limited data of different measurement sources
and guarantees general accordance of reality and simulation in terms of multimodal
road traffic counts and vehicle speeds. The research is embedded in the challenge
of improving the traffic by controlling the traffic light systems (TLS) of the
examined area. Therefore, the current traffic state and the predicted route choices
of individual road users are the matter of interest. The concept is generally
transferable to any road traffic system. To give an impression of the accuracy
and potential of the approach, the validation and first application results are
    presented.

text: The aim to produce highly active, selective, and long-lived electrocatalysts
by design drives major research efforts toward gaining fundamental understanding
of the relationship between material properties and their catalytic performance.
Surface characterization tools enable to assess atomic scale information on the
complexity of electrocatalyst materials. Advancing electrochemical methodologies
to adequately characterize such systems was less of a research focus point. In
this Review, we shed light on the ability to gain fundamental insights into electrocatalysis
from a complementary perspective and establish corresponding design strategies.
These may rely on adopting the perceptions and models of other subareas of electrochemistry,
such as corrosion, battery research, or electrodeposition. Concepts on how to
account for and improve mass transport, manage gas bubble release, or exploit
magnetic fields are highlighted in this respect. Particular attention is paid
to deriving design strategies for nanoelectrocatalysts, which is often impeded,
as structural and physical material properties are buried in electrochemical data
of whole electrodes or even devices. Thus, a second major approach focuses on
overcoming this difference in the considered level of complexity by methods of
single-entity electrochemistry. The gained understanding of intrinsic catalyst
performance may allow to rationally advance design concepts with increased complexity,
such as three-dimensional electrode architectures. Many materials undergo structural
changes upon formation of the working catalyst. Accordingly, developing “precatalysts”
with low hindrance of the electrochemical transformation to the active catalyst
is suggested as a final design strategy.

text: The electrical double‐layer plays a key role in important interfacial electrochemical
processes from catalysis to energy storage and corrosion. Therefore, understanding
its structure is crucial for the progress of sustainable technologies. We extract
new physico‐chemical information on the capacitance and structure of the electrical
double‐layer of platinum and gold nanoparticles at the molecular level, employing
single nanoparticle electrochemistry. The charge storage ability of the solid/liquid
interface is larger by one order‐of‐magnitude than predicted by the traditional
mean‐field models of the double‐layer such as the Gouy–Chapman–Stern model. Performing
molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate the possible relationship between
the measured high capacitance and adsorption strength of the water adlayer formed
at the metal surface. These insights may launch the active tuning of solid–solvent
and solvent–solvent interactions as an innovative design strategy to transform
energy technologies towards superior performance and sustainability.

text: Single-entity electrochemistry allows for assessing electrocatalytic activities
of individual material entities such as nanoparticles (NPs). Thus, it becomes
possible to consider intrinsic electrochemical properties of nanocatalysts when
researching how activity relates to physical and structural material properties.
Conversely, conventional electrochemical techniques provide a normalized sum current
referring to a huge ensemble of NPs constituting, along with additives (e.g.,
binders), a complete catalyst-coated electrode. Accordingly, recording electrocatalytic
responses of single NPs avoids interferences of ensemble effects and reduces the
complexity of electrocatalytic processes, thus enabling detailed description and
modelling. Herein, we present insights into the oxygen evolution catalysis at
individual cubic Co3O4 NPs impacting microelectrodes of different support materials.
Simulating diffusion at supported nanocubes, measured step current signals can
be analyzed, providing edge lengths, corresponding size distributions, and interference-free
turnover frequencies. The provided nano-impact investigation of (electro-)catalyst-support
effects contradicts assumptions on a low number of highly active sites.

Eigenschaften auszeichnen. Zur Bestimmung ihrer Materialparameter stellt der IEEE
Standard on Piezoelectricity ein standardisiertes Verfahren dar. Dazu sind fünf
Impedanzmessungen an vier unterschiedlich gefertigten Probekörpergeometrien notwendig.

text: Design processes of ultrasonic transducers become increasingly simulation-driven
due to rising computational capabilities. Therewithin, the choice of the material
parameters for modelling the materials used is particularly important for a realistic
simulation result. Piezoceramics, which couple mechanic and electrical properties,
are often used as active elements in ultrasonic transducers. The IEEE Standard
on Piezoelectricity is a standardised procedure for determining these parameters
that requires five impedance measurements on four piezocermics of different geometry.
Since only a subset of all necessary material parameters can be determined for
each individual specimen, these are then combined to form a complete set of material
parameters. Due to different processing conditions for each specimen, this set
of material parameters is inconsistent and cannot describe the behaviour of a
single specimen appropriately. Therefore, in the present thesis, a method is developed
with enables the determination of all relevant material parameters including damping
on a single piezocermic by means of electrical impedance measurements alone. A
piezoelectric ceramic with disc-shaped geometry, which is frequently used in applications,
is used as a specimen. In order to ensure a sufficiently high sensitivity to all
material parameters, it is manufactured with an optimised electrode topology.
Because in this case analytical solutions, which relate the measurement quantities
to the material parameters, do not exist, the measurement method is implemented
    using an inverse approach.
