text: "The ability to generate explanations that are\r\nunderstood by explainees
is the quintessence\r\nof explainable artificial intelligence. Since un-\r\nderstanding
depends on the explainee’s back-\r\nground and needs, recent research focused
on\r\nco-constructive explanation dialogues, where\r\nan explainer continuously
monitors the ex-\r\nplainee’s understanding and adapts their expla-\r\nnations
dynamically. We investigate the ability\r\nof large language models (LLMs) to
engage as\r\nexplainers in co-constructive explanation dia-\r\nlogues. In particular,
we present a user study in\r\nwhich explainees interact with an LLM in two\r\nsettings,
one of which involves the LLM being\r\ninstructed to explain a topic co-constructively.\r\nWe
evaluate the explainees’ understanding be-\r\nfore and after the dialogue, as
well as their\r\nperception of the LLMs’ co-constructive behav-\r\nior. Our results
suggest that LLMs show some\r\nco-constructive behaviors, such as asking ver-\r\nification
questions, that foster the explainees’\r\nengagement and can improve understanding
of\r\na topic. However, their ability to effectively\r\nmonitor the current understanding
and scaffold\r\nthe explanations accordingly remains limited."

text: "Als Rilke im Frühjahr 1911 eine zuvor begonnene Afrika-Reise mit einem Nildampfer
von Thomas Cook\r\nin Ägypten fortsetzt, wird ihm schnell klar, dass das Tempo
des Massentourismus in Konflikt mit seinen\r\nSehbedürfnissen kommt. Der touristische
Blick entsteht in zeitlicher und gedanklicher Nähe zum Kolonialismus\r\nund führt
eine Form eurozentrisch-hegemonialer Weltbeherrschung vor ‒ wobei der Tourist\r\nals
Typus auch im Inland schon im 19. Jahrhundert dem Reisenden als Negativfigur entgegengestellt\r\nwird.
Entgegen gegenwärtiger Werbestrategien ist auch der Kulturtourismus von seinen
Anfängen her\r\nnicht frei von Elementen des Massentourismus und eines die Fremde
beherrschenden Blicks. Dass eine\r\nimmer schon vorgeprägte Erwartungshaltung
die erwartete Erschütterung erschwert, wird Rilke auf seiner\r\nReise deutlich,
die er nicht zuletzt durch die Ägypten-Reise seiner Frau vorbereitet hat. So versucht\r\ner
den Ambivalenzen des industrialisierten Kulturtourismus zu entkommen und empfindet
am Ende\r\ndoch nur die strukturelle Untragbarkeit der touristischen Situation,
die schon vor der Reise durch die\r\nHoffnung auf authentisches Erleben hoffnungslos
kontaminiert ist."

text: ABSTRACTEmerging technologies pose many new
challenges for regulation and governance on a global scale. With the advent of
distributed communication networks like the Internet and decentralized ledger
technologies like blockchain, new platforms emerged, disrupting existing power
dynamics and bringing about new claims of sovereignty from the private sector.
This special issue addresses a gap in the literature by focusing the discourse
on the issue of trust and confidence
in the digital realm. In particular, looking at the evolution of the web (from
Web 1.0, to Web 2.0, and then Web 3), this article analyses how every iteration
reflects a different way of dealing with the problem of trust
online, resulting in a different regulation and governance landscape. Technology
is often regarded as a new lever of regulation, attempting to resolve the problem
of “trust” online, either through the introduction of a new trusted authority
(Web 2.0) or through the introduction of technological guarantees that provide
more assurance—or “confidence”—in the way interactions can be operationalized
(Web 3). Yet, each of these technologies also introduce new risks and governance
costs, ultimately shifting the problem of trust in a new direction rather than
resolving it or removing the need for trust altogether. The main contribution
of the articles in this special issue is providing a better understanding of the
trust challenges faced and posed by emerging technologies and demonstrating how
they affect institutional governance—in both theory and practice—with a view to
help policymakers find appropriate answers to these challenges.

text: 'Im Fremdsprachenunterricht haben theaterpädagogische Methoden eine
lange Tradition und werden mittlerweile als Prinzipien einer performativen Didaktik
angeführt (vgl. Bryant & Zepter, 2022; Hensel, 2020; Sambanis & Walter,
2021; Schewe, 2020; Sting, 2023). In Anlehnung an diesen Diskurs wird im vorliegenden
Artikel der Begriff théâtre appliqué (vgl. Martinez Thomas, 2017) verwendet, um
die theaterpädagogischen Wurzeln der performativen Fremdsprachendidaktik zu betonen.
Der Artikel skizziert des Weiteren ein Projekt, das einen Rahmen für die Integration
theaterbasierter Methoden in die universitäre Lehrkräftebildung in Deutschland
schafft. Ziel ist es, die performative Lehrkompetenz angehender Fremdsprachenlehrkräfte
zu fördern und den Körper als einen zentralen Mitgestalter des Sprachenunterrichts
hervorzuheben. Dabei verschiebt sich der Fokus von der Frage, warum Theaterpädagogik
für das Sprachenlernen förderlich ist, hin zu der Frage, wie Theatermethoden in
der universitären Lehrkräfteausbildung eingesetzt werden können.Zu diesem Zweck
wird die Entwicklung eines Lehrkonzepts für die universitäre Lehrerausbildung
in den Fächern Französisch und Spanisch in Nordrhein-Westfalen (Master of Education)
vorgestellt. Diese Entwicklung gliedert sich in drei Zyklen, die auf Design-Based
Research basieren (vgl. Dube & Prediger, 2017): Zyklus 1 - Konzeptentwicklung,
Zyklus 2 - Pilotierung und Überarbeitung basierend auf rekonstruktivem Feedback
und Zyklus 3 - Evaluation des Gesamtkonzepts und Datenanalyse zu den Wahrnehmungen
der Studierenden. Da der dritte Zyklus noch nicht abgeschlossen ist, werden erste
Beobachtungen und die erwarteten Ergebnisse in Aussicht gestellt.'

text: 'This study investigated how action histories – unfolding sequences of actions
with objects – provide a context for both attentional allocation and linguistic
repair strategies. Building on theories of enactive cognition and sensorimotor
contingency theory, we experimentally manipulated action sequences (action history)
to create either simple or rich “situational models,” and investigated how these
models interact with attention and reflect in linguistic processes during human–robot
interaction. Participants (N = 30) engaged in a controlled object placement task
with a humanoid robot, where the action (manner) information was either provided
or omitted. The omission elicited repair behaviors in participants that were in
focus of our investigation. For rich models (competing action possibilities) participants
demonstrated: a) increased attentional reorientation, reflecting active engagement
with the situational model b) preference for restricted repairs, targeting the
specific source of trouble in action selection. Conversely, a simple situational
model led to more generalized attention patterns and open repair strategies, suggesting
weaker constraints on internal processing. These findings highlight how situational
structures emerge externally to scaffold internal cognitive processes, with action
histories serving as a crucial context for the interface between perception, action,
and language. We discuss how to implement such a tight loop in the assistance
of a system.'

text: We investigate how tax authorities use joint tax audits as a coordinated enforcement
tool in cross-border transactions of a multinational firm. Joint tax audits aim
to resolve potential tax disputes early, before such disputes escalate into costly
and time-consuming resolution procedures that may not fully eliminate double taxation.
Employing a game-theoretic model, we identify settings in which we expect joint
audits to occur and investigate their effect on the firm's expected tax payments
and tax audit efficiency. We find that the occurrence of joint audits critically
depends on the double taxation risk in the absence of joint audits. Unless tax
rules are consistently applied, joint audits can occur more often when this risk
is higher. The reason is that the firm changes its income-shifting strategy to
reduce its expected tax payments, and thereby also enables tax authorities to
better target tax disputes via joint audits that would otherwise escalate. However,
we identify conditions under which joint audits are then detrimental to tax audit
efficiency, particularly when the firm prefers them most. Our results imply that
cost-sharing arrangements for joint audits should be tailored to the level of
double taxation risk, with firm involvement having the potential to improve efficiency
when this risk is high.

von Lebensmittelmarken wird die Komponente ''(-)bio(-)'' angesichts der Verbreitung
biologisch hergestellter Produkte häufig eingesetzt. Marken verwenden sie mal
in Präposition und mal in Postposition, mal gebunden und mal frei. Dieser Beitrag
untersucht diese unterschiedlichen Verwendungen aus einer kognitiv-grammatischen
Perspektive anhand eines Korpus aus aktuellen Lebensmittelmarkennamen. Ziel ist
es, die Arten der Komposition zu systematisieren. Als Ausgangspunkt dienen die
in der linguistischen Forschung bisher üblichen Klassifizierungen von ''bio-''
als initiales Konfix sowie ''bio'' als Kürzung. Die Analyse zeigt, dass die Komponente
''(-)bio(-)'' überwiegend als gebundene oder ungebundene spezifizierende Erst-
oder auch Zweiteinheit in regulären Konfix-Komposita und kompositumähnlichen Bildungen,
die als Markennamen eingesetzt werden, gebraucht wird. Seltener fungiert die Komponente
selbst als Profildeterminante. Die Komponente ''(-)bio(-)'' wird demzufolge zur
Bildung von Markennamen variabler gebraucht, als durch die Einordnung von bio-
als vornehmlich linke, gebundene Einheit in Komposita bislang angenommen wurde.'

text: Spin waves represent an important class of low-energy excitations in magnetic
solids, which influence the thermodynamic properties and play a major role in
technical applications, such as spintronics or magnetic data storage. Despite
the enormous advances of ab initio simulations in materials science, quantitative
calculations of spin-wave spectra still pose a significant challenge, because
the collective nature of the spin dynamics requires an accurate treatment of the
Coulomb interaction between the electrons. As a consequence, simple lattice models
like the Heisenberg Hamiltonian are still widespread in practical investigations,
but modern techniques like time-dependent density-functional theory or many-body
perturbation theory also open a route to material-specific spin-wave calculations
from first principles. Although both are in principle exact, actual implementations
necessarily employ approximations for electronic exchange and correlation as well
as additional numerical simplifications. In this review, we recapitulate the theoretical
foundations of ab initio spin-wave calculations and analyze the common approximations
that underlie present implementations. In addition, we survey the available results
for spin-wave dispersions of various magnetic materials and compare the performance
of different computational approaches. In this way, we provide an overview of
the present state of the art and identify directions for further developments.

text: Miller's rule originated as an empirical relation between the nonlinear and
linear optical coefficients of materials. It is now accepted as a useful tool
for guiding experiments and computational materials discovery, but its theoretical
foundation had long been limited to a derivation for the classical Lorentz model
with a weak anharmonic perturbation. Recently, we developed a mathematical framework
which enabled us to prove that Miller's rule is equally valid for quantum anharmonic
oscillators, despite different dynamics due to zero-point fluctuations and further
quantum-mechanical effects. However, our previous derivation applied only to one-dimensional
oscillators and to the special case of second- and third-harmonic generation in
a monochromatic electric field. Here we extend the proof to three-dimensional
quantum anharmonic oscillators and also treat all orders of the nonlinear response
to an arbitrary multi-frequency field. This makes the results applicable to a
much larger range of physical systems and nonlinear optical processes. The obtained
generalized Miller formulae rigorously express all tensor elements of the frequency-dependent
nonlinear susceptibilities in terms of the linear susceptibility and thus allow
a computationally inexpensive quantitative prediction of arbitrary parametric
frequency-mixing processes from a small initial dataset.
